My itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....help!!

I have installed the new update (Windows 8 64 bit) & my itunes freezes when I connect my ipod.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

hello,
I got a problem with my itunes/ipod, I believe it's my ipod.
My Itunes freezes when i connect my ipod to my computer (windows 7 Professional, latest version of itunes),
it started when i've connected my ipod to itunes and I just plugged it out when it was syncronizing.
after that my whole content (music, pic's, video's) are deleted. The default stuff is the only thing what's left on it.
And now every time I connnect my ipod classic my itunes freezes. I've installed itunes on my new computer but it keeps doing nothing..
I've tried the support pages from apple but I just can't fix this problem, please help.

Itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....possible corrupt file?

I reinstalled itunes to the latest version.
And I'm still having the same problem: My itunes freezes whenever I connect my ipod. And when i disconnect it, it unfreezes and it shows "My Ipod" in itunes for like a second then goes away.
Now, when I reinstalled again, i noticed a message saying that Windows is missing components required to fully install Itunes (itunes installed anyway) or something like that. Now, i connected it to my parents' pc and it works fine.
Is there something wrong with my pc? Is there a different program where i can transfer my music to my ipod? (I am using Windows XP btw)
Also is there a way to move all the songs on my ipod to an external hard drive?

When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.
I'm using the newest (6.x) Version of iTunes on WinXP SP2 with a 3G iPod 20GB.

Ok when i connect my ipod to my computer, the ipod charges, but the computer freezes, and nothing happens. In addition the computer does not recognize that i have connected the ipod. How do i fix this?

I was having the same problem connecting to USB 1.1 on my PC. I installed A USB 2.0 adapter in my PC and plug the iPod into it. Now my PC does not freeze and the iPod works perfectly.
Not sure if this will solve your problem but it did mine.

ITunes freezes when I connect my iPod/weird clicking noise

Hi, recently I've tried connecting my iPod to my laptop and iTunes would freeze and task manager said it wasn't responding. In addition, when this happened, my iPod would make a weird clicking noise. I noticed this noise before when I had it on shuffle and would skip to a different song just after another song started. Does anyone know what's going on?

TS1363 iTunes freezes when I connect this iPod (4th gen nano)

I have an older (4th gen) ipod that a family member gave me. I'd like to restore it and load it with music, but when I connect it and open iTunes, not only does iTunes not recognize it, but it completely freezes iTunes. I'm using Windows 8, latest version of iTunes installed. I've tried resetting the iPod, but that does not help.
When I check the device in control panel, it states "This device is working properly".
Any help is appreciated!

Found my solution in a similar thread - I hope I can find it and thank the poster!
It's a nuclear option, but it works!
Connect the offending iPod to a computer that does NOT have iTunes
You will be able to open the iPod as a Disk Drive in My Computer
(the following steps worked on my laptop running XP; you will need to adapt to your operating system)
Right-click on the Disk Drive when it appears
Click on Format
A window will pop up with some details and check boxes
Check "Quick Format"
You'll get a warning that everything on the drive will be erased. Click OK. (you are trying to reset the iPod to its original factory settings so that ITunes will read it as a new iPod)
Formatting only took a minute or so on my computer
Eject the iPod (Click the icon in your taskbar at the bottom of the screen)
Now, take the iPod back to the computer with your iTunes on it and connect it. (Close iTunes and reopen it if you haven't already) You should see a Welcome to your new iPod screen and be able to start over again syncing music, etc.
It worked for me!

My itunes freezes when i connect my ipod touch?

I have had my 4th gen. 8GB iPod Touch for about 8 months now. It has worked perfectly, up until now. When i plug my iPod in, iTunes finds it( after about 30 seconds) and it just shows the little icon showing that it's syncing, or loading. It keeps doing that, and when I click on it nothing happens. I cannot access my iPod at all and i tried reseting it but that didn't help. It just deleted all my music so now im screwed. I have updated iTunes to the latest, as well as my ipod to iOS 5.1.1. I have reset my computer, reinstalled iTunes, but nothing helps. If anyone has experianced this, I need help. Thanks.

Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and connecting to your computer and restoring via iTunes.

MB Pro has only one USB port that is compatible for iPod Classic operations like sync or restore. The other USB port is shared internally with other IO devices, like iSight, bluetooth, infrared resulting in slowing down the datarate, hence freezing the iTunes.
try to swap to the other USB Port after you disconnect and reboot your MB Pro.
Also dont use any other USB devices, while connecting an iPod Classic to the MB Pro.
MB Pro is ok with other Apple Mobile Devices like iPhone, iPad and newer iPod Touch with faster interface devices.

Thanks Santa for the new iPod Nano. Unfortunately, every time I connect the ipod to the computer, iTunes freezes and I have to completely reboot the PC. Very frustrating! I have reloaded all the software from the CDs four times, after unstalling it, to no avail. Interestingly, I have managed to download onto the ipod on one occassion and then once the download was complete, itunes froze. Any help would be much appreciated

Just in case, let's doublecheck to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes (the new 10.6.1.7 and one of the old ones with the freeze-on-nano-plugging-in issue.)

I have a fifth generation iPod with 60 GB of memory. It has worked fine for the past year. A few days ago, I connected the iPod to my new MacBook and it gave me an odd message. It asked me about a iPod setup assistant and another message about updating the iPod with puchased music that was in the iTunes library. I said okay to the second, and I got an update symbol in iTunes. However, nothing updates. The iPod's music is still on the iPod, but all the songs appear gray in the iTunes list, and I can't play them, although the iPod will play everything by itself. After a while, iTunes stops responding and I have to force quit. The iPod and MacBook have worked together fine for the past six months. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Well, my MacBook erased my iPod. I decided to let iTunes update the iPod's library, and instead of "updating" it, iTunes erased what was on the iPod and uploaded the library from my computer. This is the third time this has happened to me, each with a different Mac and the same iPod. Can anyone explain to me why this keeps happening to me? I had 30 GB of music that I'm now going to have to track down and replace.

I had to restore my iPod, unfortunately, because a notification that my iTunes couldn't read my iPod for an error appeared.
Now I restored the iPod, and when I plug in it, my iTunes failed, freeze, didn't work. So I uninstalled the iTunes, reinstalled the new version, I connect again my iPod, and still the problem, I can not work on iTunes...and I don't have music
The big problem is that I cannot close iTunes anymore, even pressing Ctrl+Shift+Supr.; and when I want to turn off my computer, it never finish turning off because it is closing iTunes and it can't.

My computer is Windows 7

I had an issue once where iTunes wouldn't see the iPod, and the iPod would act like its trying to connect but would never complete (On a Windows Based PC).
The only way I got around that issue with my 80GB Video iPod was to do a reset on the iPod (menu and center for a few seconds until it rebooted). After that the device was good and would sync fine.
However, if your device is saying otherwise like the format option then I'd be concerned... And I would recommend doing a restore first before a format... Try the reset, and connect.... If you are concerned once you get it syncronized then do the restore option through iTunes!

I have down loaded the new version of itunes now my ipod has copied a few songs and wont copy any more. when I launch itunes it works well on its own but as soon as I plug in my ipod and go to task manager it says itunes has stopped responding and it freezes. That doesn't work either it freezes after trying to initialise. I took my ipod into the apple shop when I first downloaded the updates. Completely screwed my ipod. The apple shop reformatted it and set it for windows.
As soon as I plug it in (I have to launch itunes it doesn't do it automatically) everything freezes, as soon as I unplug it the ipod works, itunes works they just don't work together

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard I have been having syncing issues with my 5th Gen 80GB iPod. It first gave me an error that it could not read or write to the iPod. The music and podcast were able to write to the iPod but when it got to syncing my photos is when it failed. I then just yesterday installed iTunes 9 hoping it would help, which it didn't. I tried to do a restore of my iPod with iTunes 9 and it was able to erase the iPod just fine and when I went to sync it again it gets stuck at about 5GB completed. I have a total of about 60GB's that I am trying to sync, but even if I just sync a few things it still will give an error "Can't synce 80GB iPod because it can't be read or written to (error -50)."
So I am not sure if this is a Snow Leopard issue or iTunes issue. I don't think it is my iPod because it was working fine now for over 2 years. Even the small amount of 5GB that it did transfer will play just fine from my iPod.

I've got a pentium 4 3.0 with 1GB of RAM running winXP pro. I just re-installed winxp after formatting the HD so everything should be clean. All it has on it is WinXP, Office 2007, Photoshop, and Itunes. When I connect my ipod, a 60GB video, itunes will freeze the entire computer up for a few minutes while it syncs. Also, many podcasts, most notobly "This american life" will only download about halfway (an hour long podcast will be 15 minutes or so long). This happens pretty consistently. Any ideas? I DOWNLOADED MUSIC FROM A CARD AND IT PLAYED FOR TWO TO THREE WEEKS AND IT QUIT PLAYING THE TUNES ARE STILL ON THERE BUT THEY WON'T PLAY AND MY IPOD FREEZES UP?
