My itunes quit working, and I can't reinstall it.  I have Windows. Why?

I have a windows computer and my itunes just quit in the last few days.  I've tried to reinstall it, but it won't let me finish.  Why?

What error message are you seeing? Does it mention a dll or error code?

Yes, if you repurchase it you may lose your progress. The exception would be a game that stored all your progress on a server under your ID
If you want to retain your progress you have two choices:
    1. Don't apply the update.
    2. Use your fathers account password to update the game.

  • In FCP7 my share option suddenly quit working, and I can't submit in compressor either.  Any suggestions for a solution?

I have had FCP 7 installed on my Mac Pro since May 2011, It has worked flawlessly up until a couple weeks ago.  The "share" option has quit working on me.  Also, I am unable submit any jobs in compressor, the button is greyed out.  This has come entirely out of the blue and I'm stumped as to the best course of action.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your time.

Thanks for the reply,  I actually used the digitalrebellion.com FCS Remover and reinstalled compressor and Qmaster and everything seems to be working properly again.
    Thanks again for your reply

    help

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Update to iTunes hung, now iTunes is gone and I can't reinstall

I finally had time to update to the latest version of iTunes, but the install hung at about 90% and I finally killed the process. Now iTunes won't run at all, and reinstalling fails with a fairly cryptic message about reinstalling manually. Guess I should've continued using the older version.

And there is apparently no way to get to a command line in Win 7.
It can be done ... best to run the command prompt as an administrator though on a 7 system:
To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

  • Deleted itunes by accident and now can't reinstall it due to error message

I deleted Itunes on my Windows 7 computer by accident and when I went to reinstall it, I got an error message saying "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact you support personnel or package vendor." What do I do now?!

"There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact you support personnel or package vendor."

  • I tunes won't work and I can't reinstall the program

When I click the itunes icon nothing happens. So I uninstalled Itunes but I cannot uninstall Quick Time. I get the same message when I try to reinstall Itunes with Quick Time as when I try to uninstall Quick Time:
The instruction at "0x7c901095" referenced memory at "0x01010037". The memory could not be "written". Click OK to terminate this program.
    Please help. Thanks

    thanks for clarifying that.
it's an unusual sort of an error message to be getting in this context ... so we'll try some general-principles troubleshooting.
first, we'll try uninstalling QuickTime by other means.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
does an itunes install go through properly now, with all that material cleared out of the way?

  • Windows 7 with iTunes 10.5 keeps telling me iTunes quit working, looking for solution, then tells me Windows will let me know when they find a solution. Help, my phone needa to be synched.

Windows 7 with iTunes 10.5 loaded and working until I try to update apps or synch my iPhone 4. Windows says iTunes quit working and is looking for solution, then no solution but they tell me if they find one.

    Hi Lorheak,
thanks for the quick reply. I had the same idea already yesterday. I use Norton Internet Security for a long time now without any problems. I think this a Apple or Microsoft problem, because the popup window which appear come from Windows DEP. I got no message from the firewall with any problem. I check the log files from Norton and Windows already but find nothing. This is a very strange problem. In the past I have had a lot of other problems with iTunes upgrades. Everytime I accept the installation of the newest version I got errors regarding missing "msi" files.
    Greetings Gert

I had to change my Apple ID and password in itunes. Now my icloud doesn't work and I can't update my apps on my iPhone. I have looked at suggestions on the community pages and apple suggestions but none of them are relevant to iOS 8.1.2
icloud just keeps bringing up my old email address & asking for my old password which doesn't exist anymore and when I try to sign out of icloud it wants my old password, when I tried to change my primary email back to the old one it wants me to verify it through an email address that doesn't exist. Please can you help me sort out this nightmare.

    Hi skippy2012trev,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:   1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem   and   2. iTunes was not installed correct

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:
    1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
    and
    2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).
Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.
This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.
There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.
    Thanks

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
