My key board is not working after my cat sat on it plus I have a small long flashing box

MY cat sat on my key board during working on a program which adds your signature and now even though I can sign in to my computer  with out any problem once into any of my programs I can not type more than one or two letters with pressing very hard. On the key board and also trying at least 2/3 times.
PLus I have a long narrow flashing black box which may have been part of the program for adding my signed signature which seems to be stopping me doing a great deal. I can not get remove this box plus I can not remember the program I was using when the problem happen. I have tied a restore to a early point of time without any success

sandra frombeaconsfield,
Try a SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Follow directions for a battery you should not remove yourself.
You can also try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
You May also try a safe mode boot, power off the the MBP, Power it back up holding the shift key, hold the shift key till you see the progress bar, then release, allow to finish booting,(note this will take longer than a normal boot) check around, then logout and shut down and boot normally. (this can sometimes fix little problems.
If no joy, take it in to an Apple Genius bar for evaluation, it's free, your furry little friend may have caused some hardware damage, the fact that you have to press hard for it to repond is what me think this.
Best of luck

after the actualization of the operative system O7 the keyboard doesn´t work?

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Reset All Settings does not delete anything, all it does is take most of the iPad's settings back to default (with the exception of accounts setting, and maybe a couple other things.) It is perfectly safe.
The only inconvenience is that you have to go back through almost all your settings and set them to your preference.

The same story. No 3G after updating to 6.1.  Told my daughter temporarily not to do an update on her iPad with 6.01. We've exchanged SIMs. I inserted her SIM in my iPad - 3G appeared immediately. And my SIM in her iPad with ios 6.01 also WORKS FINE. We use the same provider - Megafon Moscow. After attempting to revert SIMs to original configuration, 3G disappeared on my iPad again. Don't know what's going on with SIM during the update to 6.1

  • Keys (MJU) are not working after repair

    Hello,
I've sent my MBP early 2011 for motherboard replacement, as affected model.
After repair service inform me some keys are not working anymore (MJU), thay asked me 290 euros for repair
What should I do? Anyone else had the same problem?

I never managed to get the keys to work again, but maybe I haven't been holding them long enough.
I have read somewhere that Apple ask for more than 300€ (USD 400) to change the keyboard, so I am considering opening myself my Crapple Crapbook Pro and change it myself.
I am quite ****** actually. A keyboard shouldn't die like this with no reason less than 3 years later. My Powerbook G4 that I used a lot much more than the Macbook is still working fine.

  • A few keys on the Integrated key board do not work  help

After much trial and error I have found that there is no way for me to fix the fact that my qwertyuio keys on the integrated keyboard do not work....I have not taken my MBP to my local store yet because I have many projects and papers due this week and kinda need it. Luckily i have a bluetooth keyboard that works fine but i do not feel like bringing it everywhere with me in order to work on these papers and projects...where I live in not exactly the quietest place and I would like to go to the library on campus...does not work with those keys not working considering i can type four of the five vowels in the english language

Hello Hickster and welcome the Apple Support Forums,
It definitely sounds like a hardware problem so these things probably won't work but you can try:
Reset PRAM (hold the command-option-p-r during boot up after the chime)
open a new account and see if the problem persists.
go to keyboard preferences and make sure all the keyboard modifier keys are set to default
start the machine in Safe mode by holding the Shift key while it starts.
You could try to reset the SMC by turning off the machine and removing the battery and power cord, holding the power button for 5 secs then putting it all back together.
Like I said, these are unlikely to work but are pretty safe to do. That being said I highly recommend you make a complete cloned backup to another drive before you start messing around with key combinations etc. Be sure to make a back up before you take it in. Specifically back up all the papers you're working on to a thumb drive or some easily accessible media in case there is a problem.
You could then work on your papers with the Library machines (export your files to windows friendly on the thumb drive) while you wait for your MBP to get fixed.
If you still have applecare that is the way to go but if not then you could try to follow the iFixit guides for removing the keyboard and re-installing it to see if it just needed to be reseated. If you have applecare you will void it by doing that so make sure you don't void your warrantee.
Hope you get things figured out.

  • I have a power mac g3 it boots fine but mouse and key board do not work

The mac boots fine, I can see desk top, etc. The key board and mouse are connected but do not appear to work.  This has just happened.

You could take it to a service center but: 1) It would probably cost more than the computer is worth. 2) You'd be lucky to find somebody who knows what a G4 is (maybe I exaggerate but really, they would laiugh at anything that "old"). 3) I don't think we're done here.
Do you still have the original discs. One of them has a hardware test that you can run.  You could also see
if it boots to the original disc and if things still won't work.  You could even try OS9.
Also look into CUDA reset and NVRAM reset.  I think they are both references in the link I provided earlier.

If it really turns out to be the USB hardware that's bad you could probably find a third party USB card you could slip in there for next to nothing and would also give you USB2 speeds.  There's minor disadvantages.
Oh, did we determine if it really isn't working at any stage?  What about if you hold down the mouse key while booting the computer? That should open the optical drive door if it is being sensed.

  • Upgraded macbook pros key board lights wont work after 10.7 upgrade

I have a macBook Pro model A1260. The Hard drive was replaced along with a super drive. This is a new experience but have finally gotten it up and running with Mountain lion. After a restart the keyboard lights stopped working. They had been functioning after the hard drive install but sadly remain dark after the new X upgrade. Hitting the illumination key for the keys shows a circle with a line through it on the screen. The keys still function. Did I fry something? Joeza

    Try Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Display blank, key board light not working, won't wake up if sleeps.

Hi. I just bought a Toshiba Satellite P850 and after two weeks I had the first big problem.
It starts normally first time but after a shut-down and a few hours later start, the display is blank, any light on.The back light keyboard the same - only the power button and battery/wireless-connection have the light on.
If I shut it down again and then restart (by pressing the power button) nothing happened same screen and no light.
Tried to do this.. remove battery, press pow. button for 30-60 sec, plug charger, and the restart. it works. but after a shut-down and a few hours later restart,I have the same problem. If sleep mode it won't wake up.
Don't know what to do.. it's a brand new Toshiba Satellite. used a few hours a day for two weeks.

It sounds like the computer is going into Sleep mode or Hibernation and not coming out of it. Go to the Control Panel and select Power Options. Whatever your current power setting, select the Advanced settings under it. Check out your Sleep and Hibernation settings. In this case, I would disable them. You might want to enable the Screen Saver and let that kick in if you're away from the computer for any length of time.
In cases of mysterious computer issues, the best policy is to simplify. Reduce the number of attached devices. Keep the number of open applications down to a minimum. See if you can figure which hardware or software is causing this problem. And you should be able to fix it.

  • My wireless key board does not work but wireless mouse does?

I can not get my wireless keyboard to work again after i changed the batteries, It work sonewhat before I chaged the batteries but don't work at all now. I tried removing the thing pluged into the usb port and i pushed the connect button on the bittom of keyboard but nothing works. The wireless mouse works fine. What could be wrong?

Not sure which KB you have, but I'd check a few things.
    1) You might have a dead battery or two - perhaps try batteries known to be working in another device, such as a TV remote control.
    2) The KB shouldn't need to be re-synced just via a battery change.   However, if you do resync - you might need to hold the sync button longer.   On my TouchSmart IQ804, I usually push mine about 10 seconds or so.   I can pull the USB tranceiver out of the back of the unit and put it in the side/front port, that way I can watch the LED that indicates sync/transfer better.
I know that there are some good wireless KB troubleshooting documents on the HP website - here is a link to one of them.

  • Key board will not work?

My keyboard on my I Pad is frozen and I cannot get my secure code to log on?
. Iam using my Lap top to ask this question presently

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button.

  • Help please! Keyboard not working after installing windows XP sp3 on T61

I just changed to windows XP sp3 in last weekend on my T61. From then on, when I turn on the T61 every morning, the key board is not working, sometimes I could not type password. I need reboot several times to make it work. I installed the keyboard customizer utility from some online information, however, it's not helping. I searched the lenovo support website, but there are lots of drivers there,I don't know which to pick. Does anyone had met the similar issue or know how to solve it? Thanks a million!

I have exactly the same problem. It is not related to docking for me - just regular standby/resume. A reboot solves the problem. Not exactly what you'd expect from a high-end business model. This is the first time in my over 22 years history of using computers that the keyboard fails randomly. Fix this IMIDIATELY Lenovo!

  • 3G is not working after updating to iOS 6.1

My 3G connection is not working after updating to iOS 6.1. I have tried all possible solutions like resetting the network, restarting the phone etc.
With this kind of bugs in every update, Apple will no more be THE Apple.
There are bugs which have not been fixed even in the subsequent updates. SMSs going blank being one of them.
    Miss you Sir Jobs.....

I have since managed to sort mine out - when the phone was updated it wiped out the network settings.
I was able to reset them by manually putting the information in:
Settings - General - Cellular - Cellular Data Network and then I put in the correct details for APN, username and Password in the relevant sections and now it works OK.
Hopefully it will work for others too

  • Re: NB200-134 - FN key not working after upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate

My FN keys of NB200-134 is not working after upgrading from Windows 7 starter to Windows 7 ultimate. I tried installing every drivers found on Toshiba website for my lappy but still it does not work.
    Help please

    Hi asalamk,
The FN keys are controlled by Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. I think you have forgotten to install these tools
You should check the Toshiba page again and download both tools. Start with installation of Value Added Package then restart your notebook. After this install Flash Cards Support Utility. Once again restart and all FN keys should work properly now.
