My Mac has an intel Core Duo. Can I install Lion?

My IMac has a 1.83 GHz intel core duo processor.  Can I install the new Lion software?

I'm afraid not. I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro 17" 2.16 GHz.
The Core Duo is not supported with Lion - you need Core 2 Duo or higher.
See "Step 1 Make sure your Mac can run Lion." in link below.

(sigh) One of the problems of being an early adaptor, I guess.
My MBP is one of the first Intel Macs to come out in Thailand.

My Mac has an intel core duo processor, will I still be able to upgrade to Lion? What do I need to do if I can't?

    I have a similar question.
    I have a 2006 xeon macpro.
Will i beable to upgrade to lion.
I saw this on the website today.
Step 1:Make sure your Mac can run Lion.
Your Mac must have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor to run Lion. Find out if your current Mac has one of these processors by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, then choosing About This Mac.
    Here is what i have.
      Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
Will i be good to upgrade?
    Thanks

  • I have a MacBook Pro that has an Intel Core Duo Processor but to upgrade to Lion OS X I need an Intel Core2 Duo. Can I upgrade?

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8 but want to upgrade to Lion. My Mac that has an Intel Core Duo Processor (I know really outdated huh) but to upgrade to Lion OS X I need an Intel Core2 Duo. Can I upgrade or will it mess it up?

It actually shouldn't allow you to upgrade. Your configuration should be detected and then it should reject your attempt to upgrade.

  • My iMac has an Intel Core Duo processor, what can be done to upgrade to Lion?

my IMac has an Intel Core Duo processor.  What can be done it to allow me to upgrade to Lion?

Got 2GB of RAM and 7GB of disk space as well?
Got current BACKUPs in case something goes horribly wrong?
If so, upgrade/update to 10.6.6 or later and The App Store icon appears. For US$29.99, you can download Lion.
If you fear you will need a DVD of it, you must make one after downloading and BEFORE you install, as the image is consumed during the Install, and not available afterward.

Not a bummer. What is wrong with the OS you are now using?
If it Ain't broken don't try to fix it.
Be Happy you don't have to deal with all the changes and inconsistencies that Lion has created between it and older Mac OSs

  • Intel Core Duo - can't get USB modems to work

Hi, I have a broadband account with Tiscali who have now provided me with two USB DSL modems (Speedtouch 330 & Sagem 800) but I still can't get either to work. (My system is the 20" Imac Intel Core Duo)
I've installed latest OS X (10.4.6), tried drivers from Tiscali website and modem manufacturer's but still nothing (system says modem is not connected - both green lights stay on on Sagem, one red on speedtouch).
If anyone can offer advice, or if anyone has an alternative that's working for them I'd much appretiate the advice.
    Thank you
    Lee

Solution is stated as an ADSL Router - will this be compatible with Tiscali my internet broadband supplier?
    Thanks
An ADSL router is compatible with all UK ADSL isp's.
Don't use a d-link modem unless you already own a standard router. I would suggest you get an ADSL router. An ADSL router is a modem and router combined.
The netgear box that was already suggested in this thread can be source for about £60 if you shop around and is a doddle to setup.
otherwise you can find cheap adsl routers at http://www.solwise.co.uk from Hull.

  • Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 overheating and turning off

I've been having this nasty problem with my Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 (2.8 Ghz, 4 MB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, bought in August 2009) for quite a while, but recently it's intensifying.
It starts to overheat badly, and then randomly turns itself off if not connected to the power.
When restarted, the clock is set to January 1st, 2001.
Needless to say, the overheating impacts on my capacity to use the computer the way I want, destroying my fps in games and slowing the processor while I use Ableton Live to produce music.
I tried to look around, but I cannot figure out if this is a known issue of some sorts, or a problem related to this very computer: I did read on the forums a suggestion to run the Hardware Tests from the Snow Leopard DVD by booting the system with the DVD in while holding d, but nothing happens if I do so.
    Thank you all in advance!

  • HT1338 intel core duo / can't migrate to icloud?

Hi.  I would like some help in clarifying please.  I have an older Macbook with an Intel Core Duo running Snow Leopard.  I can't upgrade to Lion.  I have used my .mac account/Mobileme for years primarily for email purposes, idisk, and the gallery (I understand the idisk and gallery are being discontinued).  I'm trying to understand whether I can migrate to icloud and/or whether I really need it.  I don't have any other devices that I need to sync with.  I've already copied my idisk onto my hard drive and I'm not too worried about the gallery because I have my photos and movies stored elsewhere.
    Questions:
    1. Do I need to migrate to icloud in order to keep my @mac and @me email addresses?
    2. Will the @mac email address be discontinued after June 30 (assuming I've migrated to icloud)?
    3. Is it physically possible for me to migrate to icloud if I am using Snow Leopard?  If so, do I follow the steps as outlined on the main migration page (i.e. acknowledge that I'm using the required software)?
I believe there may be a workaround to #3 but am not sure if that's what I'm looking for.  Thank you for your help.

    Answers:
    1. Yes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4597). MobileMe accounts must be migrated before the end of MobileMe otherwise they end along with the service.
    2. No. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4597)
    3. I haven't done it recently but yes.
-- You will need to update the mail server settings in your Mail program once the migration is complete as iCloud uses a different set of mail servers than MobileMe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.
    Cheers.

  • Can a MacBook Pro1,1 - 2GHz Intel Core Duo be upgraded to Lion or even Leopard?

Is it possible to upgrade the OS from Tiger to either Lion or Leopard on a MacBookPro1,1  2GHz Intel Core Duo (2006)?  Need to upgrade Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft software...

Here's something to consider. I see you have 1G RAM. That works well enough for Tiger 10.4. However, I think Leopard or Snow Leopard will be happier if you increase the RAM.
Your MBP can handle up to 2G of RAM. It has two RAM slots'In your case, there would be one 512MB module in each slot. You could replace one 512MB module with a 1G module and have a total over 1.5G. That would be a big help. Or replace both. If you are in the US, RAM is not expensive (see: 2.0GB Upgrade Kit                 (1.0GB Modules x 2 Matched) for US$33), and the RAM is easily installed even by the most novice user.
Here are the Apple Instructions for installing RAM in teh first Gen MacBook Pros:
