My mac is catching tv/radio signals!!!

hello.
i plugged in my speaker wire to my macbook to play it on surround sound. while i was adjusting the 3.5mm male connector suddenly sound tv or radio sound started coming from the speakers. i couldnt figure out whether it was tv sound or radio. there is a cable tv socket just behind my mac.can anyone explain what is happening!?

This will happen if one of the conductors in your 3.5 mm connector is not connecting properly. I suspect that that plug / cable is defective and should be replaced. If replacing the cable does not remedy the problem then I would suspect the wiring to the jack in the MacBook, but it is more likely the speaker wire/plug.

    Hi people,
I've been trying to record a song with my guitar. I have my guitar plugged strait into my Mac Mini using a normal guitar cord with an adaptor into the line in jack. When I record something i hear Japanese people talking and sometimes weird little Japanese jingles. (No joke, seriously) I think it's radio signals, but I'm not entirely sure. Also, it only seems to happen when i use a distorted sound like"Metal" or "Modern Rock". I have no clue what to do and It's really starting to annoy me.

most likely your adapter, or cable is faulty/not properly shielded. reading the first bit after the "conversational part" of the Balanced Systems tutorial can explain it:

    Hey Suvit Sharma,
I would go through the troubleshooting suggestions in this article:

You're already on the right track with toggling airplane mode, but there are several other steps you can take to resolve the issue.

  • I get a radio signal when playing music through airport express

Is there a way to change the frequency or anything?

huh! what do you mean you receive a radio signal?
the wireless signal between your computer/router and airport express is digital. in no way this signal could be mixed with an audio radio signal. if you have wireless interference you will experience music drop out.
you get a radio signal, you probably have to review your audio connection. how are you setup from the 1/8" audio jack of the airport express to your audio system?

  • AP with radio signal strength configurable

    Hi,
Is there any available cisco aironet model which enable administrator to configure the strength of the WiFi wireless radio signal? Example, we can tune to 10dB, 20dB, 30dB and yet maintaining the throughput (10 Mbps, 25 Mbps)
    TQ

    1) Some devices you configure the transmit power in the dBm values typically -1 0 1 2 5 8 11 14 17 20, other devices will do it based on mw values typically 100mw, 50mw, 25mw, 12.5mw, 6mw, 3mw, 1.5mw, etc.
    2) There are some differences in the transmit power depending on the model of 1200 you have but for research purposes you should be fine.

The next thing I'd try is changing the DNS settings from what your ISP uses. If you are not familiar with DNS then please look over CNET's DNS Article and MacWorld's DNS Troubleshooting. Then use the following to reset:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences

  • No Radio Signal while in in Speaker Dock

I would like to play my iPod nano 5th generation radio in my JBL Speaker dock. I get "No Radio Signal, please plug in headphones for radio reception" error when I try to play radio in the speaker dock. So, now I know the antenna is in the earbuds!
Of course, the earbud jack is on the botton of the nano and is covered up when I set the nano in the dock! Is there a way to use an external antenna on the dock, or maybe an ipod adaptor/spacer that raises the iPod an inch or so for clearance to plug the earbuds in while docked?
    Thanks

  • All of a sudden, the radio signal LEDs went off and node went dead

In order to change the I/O variable data type of my node from single to array of single, I simply press and hold the rest button on WSN-3202 for 7seconds. At the end of it, the radio signal LEDs went off and node went dead. All attempt to bring it back to life proof abortive. What should I do?

    Hi Blessing,
If you've tried everything to get it working, including a fresh set of batteries or direct power from an adaptor, then you should contact your local NI branch regarding the repair process. The contact information for your branch can be found on http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/nicc.call_me.

To me, digital radio is a solution in search of a problem, and I wish the BBC would stop wasting so much money promoting it.
Just to add to my previous comments:- I seem to remember reading about all the changes to be made to DAB when I bought my portable radio.
There was a vague mention of the codec being changed from MP2 to MP3 at some time in the future.
Apparently, even existing DAB at MP2 has an inferior audio frequency range over FM.
The DAB radio has to be future-proof when bought. I'm not sure if even my Roberts is!
This may well put the dampers on the scene as it exists. Or perhaps those attempting to force that changeover to digital are simply looking for more space in the broadcast spectrum??

  • Am picking up radio signals through my HDMI port?

I have created a "home theater" experience in my living room, and all was well until yesterday...  I have an Epson 705HD projector hooked up to my MacBook Pro using the HDMI port.  For audio I use a Y-cable to connect my computer to my Sony stereo receiver.  This was a sweet setup and worked perfectly, but yesterday in the middle of watching a movie I started noticing a quiet (but noticable and annoying) radio signal coming through the stereo.  Seems like this only happens when I have all the components plugged in together...  Now I'm trying to troubleshoot which product is the root cause of the audio interference.
    - I don't hear the radio signal when I have just my laptop plugged into the stereo (HDMI port isn't in use)
    - I don't hear the radio signal when I everything plugged in except the stereo (I use headphones for audio, opposed to the stereo)
    - I hear the radio signal when I touch the HDMI chord to the comporter's HDMI port when the stereo is plugged in
I want to blame everything on the Sony receiver since that's the cheapest thing to replace.  Could it be the HDMI chord?  Something broke in the projector?  Perhaps my computer's HDMI port is messed up from too much plugging/unpluggin?
What's weird is this just started happening, never heard any static/radio noise before.  Help/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Reminds me of my grad school days in Rochester, NY, when vinyl was the source of all music. I had a decent stereo system for an impoverished student, but imagine my surprise when I learned, and not gently, that the phono cartridge in my turntable was perfectly attuned to receive the radio frequency used by the Rochester public transit bus dispatcher, whose signal was very strong indeed. I might be grooving along to Jefferson Starship, the Grateful Dead or Pink Floyd, gently ratlling the windows throughout our apartment and adjoining houses, puffing on a little of this or a little of that, when without warning I would be jolted out of my chair and across the room by an ear-shattering interjection of static-laden and distorted verbiage about the University Avenue local D bus, whose driver had just been vomited on my a drunk and needed advice about how to handle it. It was a real mood-spoiler for me. I replaced my phonograph cartridge and the problem was solved

  • Airtunes - picking up radio signals

Using an iMac G5, with iTunes 9.03, Airport Express with v6.3 firmware.
When I stream audio to my stereo I get radio signals coming through in the background. Very annoying at lower volume. Only way to get rid of it is to raise the volume quite loud. I thought at first it was just the extremely old receiver I have, then I tried it with a more modern system and got the same results.
When I stop playing music in iTunes, the sound still comes through the stereo for a brief bit before stopping (10 seconds or so) - I assume because when nothing is playing streaming is paused.
Any clues on how to block out the unwanted frequencies? Internet robustness is on, and I couldn't find any settings anywhere in the airport admin utility that might help.
I'm very close to enveloping the airport express in copper shielding
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • 6th gen nano keeps dispalying no radio signal even though I have the earpiece plugged in. Can anyone advise please?

6th gen nano keeps displaying no radio signal even though I have the earpiece plugged in. Can anyone advise? Thanks

    Hey there larkandwarbler,
It sounds like you are experiencing multiple issues with this iPod Nano 5th Gen. From what you are describing it seems we can isolate this to either the software or the hardware on the device with a couple of simple steps assuming you have tried another set of headphones. First, reset your iPod with this article:
    How to reset iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
How to reset an iPod with a Click Wheel
iPod models with a Click Wheel include:
    iPod nano (5th generation)
    iPod nano (4th generation)
    iPod nano (3rd generation)
    iPod nano (2nd generation)
    iPod nano
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.
If you are able to reset it, but the issue persists, or you are unable to reset it, I would next attempt restoring it with iTunes:
