My Mac is Not switching on,

Tried to Switch on my Mac but will Not Start
I check power, Connection all ok
Any ideas?

Hi Jminto,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your computer does not turn on, try these steps next:
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

Reset the SMC.
If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store orApple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

  • Mac does not switch off. Any idea how to fix this?

I already  repaired the rights on the disk....
Mac does not drive down, obviously after certain programs have been started. One of those programs is itunes. I have to use the power switch button for switching it off. Mac can be driven down normally immediately after start-up.....Any idea what to do?

Yes, this was exactly the sequence and again it worked...

  • Version 5.0 on a MAC will not let me switch between tabs. I can open a new tab, but when I try to go to a different tab, it just shows me the contents of the tab most recently opened. Help!

Version 5.0 on a MAC will not let me switch between tabs. I can open a new tab, but when I try to go to a different tab, it just shows me the contents of the tab most recently opened. Help!
Also, pop up blocker works for some time and then just stops working. I have to close and restart Firefox to get it to work again. Help!

I had the same problem, but with Firefox 4.0. My first thought was to update Firefox (after of course restarting FF), but that didn't help it and I had the same problem.
Among others, I had an extension installed and enabled called Tile Tabs 4.10 that I thought could feasibly creating this problem. So I went into my add-ons manager and disabled it, restarted Firefox and the tabs worked properly again. Unfortunately, the Tile Tabs extension is my favorite Firefox add-on and I use it almost every day for managing my web work tasks. I went to the add-on page for Tile Tabs and saw that there was a notice that version 4.10 didn't work properly on Mac OS, and to install version 4.9 of the extension. I saw they had a new, not-yet-reviewed version 4.11 that addressed the Mac OS problem, installed it, and everything seems to be working properly.
I have no idea why all of a sudden I had this problem, as I hadn't updated Firefox or the Tile Tabs extension recently. Also, obviously this might not address your problem, especially if you don't have that add-on installed and enabled. But our problem started at the same time for both of us it appears based on your post time, so its probably not coincidence.
But its worth a look, and you might want to check out other extensions if you don't have Tile Tabs that could be causing the problem.

  • My Mac Pro does not switch off.

It worked before Lion. Installed 10.7 and also upgraded to 10.7.1 but, on both cases, it does not switch-off. To be precise it "sometimes" switch-off but many times it does not. Let's say once on 15 times... With Leopard I nevere had this problem. (it persists also after a PRAM reset). I also run a second problem but only once and only upgrading to 10.7.1 (not to 10.7). It says that my RAM was on wrong position.. I had to remove and install the RAM again and it worked.
Any other case like this? (This append only on my MacPro - early 2009. On my MacBook and my MacBook Pro OSX Lion works fine).

Is there a pattern to the chimes, or are they simply random, as if the Mac is repeatedly rebooting on its own?
Have you tried a "Safe Boot"? Press and hold a Shift key as you power up the Mac. Does it start then?
If it starts at all "Safe Boot" will take much longer than usual, that's normal. Shutting down will take longer also. Try it.

  • Why does my mac not switch focus between applications

    All,
I have a very inconvenient problem on my mac.
Every time when I click on a link in e.g. Mail or Twitter, my Mac opens the link in Safari but does not switch focus to the Safari window with the loaded page.
    Similar behaviour in every application.
    Does anyone has an idea?
    Thanks,
    equi

    Carolyn,
thanks, but this did not solve my problem. The issue is, that Safari itself does not get the focus and I am not brought to the space where Safari has opened the page.
I tried your suggestion, turned the setting on and off and on again, but the behaviour is still the same. I assume that it has something to do with spaces itself.
Thanks for your time having responsed to my post,
    equi

  • Mac Pro FireWire does not switch off even when Mac Pro is switched off

    Hi,
got my new Mac Pro with 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon last week!
Found out today, that the firewire connection both on the frontside as well on the backside
keeps beeing powered even if the Mac Pro is switched off!
Is this a new features as my old Mac Pro (2x2.0 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) did not have this feature?
If yes, why is this so? For what is it good for?
Thanks for your comments? If you have the same new Mac Pro maybe you can check out and let me know if this feature is also on your Mac Pro seen.
    Thommy

    Hi,
called to the apple hotline and got informed that the so called "residual current" is normal at the MAC Pro. Sometimes the USB Ports sometimes the FireWire Ports keep been powered continously even the machine is switched off.
Apple told me further that I can use a connection plug board with a central switch to solve my issue.
I will close now the subject! Thanks veryone for all your help here!

  • Hi. Just switched from PC to MAC (lion 6.7) and I am trying to import my bookmarks but Firefox for mac will not recognize the file. How do I move my bookmarks to my MAC from my PC?

Hi. Just switched from PC to MAC (lion 6.7) and I am trying to import my bookmarks but Firefox for MAC will not recognize the Bookmark back up file. How do I move my bookmarks to my MAC from my PC?

Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup.<br />
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.<br />
    A JSON backup starts with: <nowiki>{"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":</nowiki><br />
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>

I connec a MiniDisplay to VGA adpter ion the Thunderbolt soket and connect it to a PC.Bur CMD+F2 does not switch my IMac to TDM
    Any hint?
    Thanks

Sorry but its just not going to work. In order to have TDM work on a 2011-2013 iMac your PC would need a Thunderbolt port that supports video out, chances are extremely slim you PC has that ability.
Please read Apple's FAQ on TDM and they will spell it out for you, you can get it by clicking Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If the "it" refers to a compressed (zipped) spreadsheet that you downloaded, the ".ods" extension is used by LibreOffice and probably OpenOffice (which are free versions of MS Office) for spreadsheets, which would suggest that wherever you're getting that "Excel" file from has switched to one of those programs. I've tried opening an .ods file from LibreOffice using MS Office 2013 for Windows and it does open though with a warning that some things have been changed. I don't know if Office for Mac can normally open .ods files. But if your need is to just open .ods files, take a look at LibreOffice.

  • Whole workgroup (SMB) dies for Macs but not PCs

    Hello all,
I'm having a very frustrating problem with a mixed Mac (Snow Leopard, all latest updates) and PC (Vista/XP) home network. Normally everything works fine and I can share files and printers between the Macs and PCs (i.e. this is not a simple configuration or permissions issue).
However, when I try to do a large (~500MB or so) file transfer from any Mac to any PC (wired or wireless, doesn't matter), the WHOLE workgroup dies for all Macs on the network. When I say the whole workgroup, I mean all the Macs lose access to any machine in the SMB workgroup (i.e. WORKGROUP or whatever all the machines are set to). Specifically, this is what happens:
    - All SMB shares immediately stop working on all Macs (transfers in progress are cut off)
    - All Macs and all PCs can still access the internet just fine and can still ping each other, so it isn't like the network connections have physically died or the router froze, etc.
    - Using Finder Go > Connect to server, none of the Macs can access any SMB share on the network, either by name (smb://pc-name) or by IP address (smb://1.2.3.4). Doing so results in an immediate "Connection failed" message (i.e. it doesn't time out or stall, it just fails instantly)
    - Windows machines can continue to access all SMB shares (including Mac shares) just fine! Just not vice versa.
Here are some things I've tried so far:
    - Rebooting any/all Macs does NOT clear up the issue. It's as if the whole SMB workgroup is stuck in a "corrupt" state which is not cleared by rebooting the Macs.
    - Switching from wired to wireless or vice versa doesn't help.
    - Turning ALL machines off, waiting a while, then turning all back on again clears the problem, but only until the next large file transfer.
    - Changing the workgroup name on all machines temporarily solves it until the next large file transfer (but this requires rebooting all the PCs which is a huge hassle).
    - Tried clean reinstalling Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on several of the Macs -- no change.
    - Clean reinstalled Vista on several of the PCs -- no change.
    - Changed the internet/WiFi router for a different brand (now using DD-WRT) -- no change.
    - Changed the Ethernet switches to different brands and used new Ethernet cables to each wired machine -- no change.
I'm not a networking guru but I'm a software developer and have been running a mixed Windows/Linux/Mac home network for some time now, so I'm not a novice either. This is one of the more frustrating problems I've ever faced.
If anyone has ANY ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am not a network guru either, but perhaps if you set the Macs' network ports to jumbo packets, the problem might be fixed. Information on how to do that is available in this web page http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21333?viewlocale=en_US
Also, if that doesn't help, you might need to get or borrow a fluke and start packet tracing some of the network connections. Maybe there is a bad or misconfigured hub or switch in your network fabric. Flukes are expensive though, so an alternative might be to find a packet sniffer for the Mac or Windows and start sniffing packets during one of those problematic file transfers. This might point you to an underlying hardware problem or misconfiguration in how your network is configured.

  • I-pod touch works on a Mac but not a PC

Please help! My I-pod touch works on a Mac but not a PC. When hooked up to a PC, the device is not recognized in I-tunes message, says I-pod in recovery mode and to restore, after checking update and restore, receive unknown error message (9). Have tried unistaling and reinstalling I-tunes, using different USB ports, creating new user, restarting computer, using different PC, and trying to reset by holding sleep/wake and home buttons all to no avail, very, very frustrated, everything is fine on a Mac!!

I have CA Internet Security Suite Plus 2010, version 6.0.0.264.
I was wondering about that one in particular.
Try configuring you CA as per kalda01's instructions in this post:

(Sometimes switching the security software off doesn't help, but doing the configuration does help. Not sure what's afoot with that, but it has happened with other security-package problems with iTunes in the past.)

  • My MacBook Pro is not switching on and my charging light is very dim green

Hey ! My MacBook Pro is not switching on. I was trying to charge my iPhone through the lead attached to the MacBook. I suppose the iPhone charging lead might not be a original. Hence it kept saying that this accessory will not work. So I took it out. As soon as I did that my mac switched off and it would not switch on again. The charger light went really dim green. It usable is more brighter. I've waited for a while. It's not switching on. I was trying to do smc reset but I suppose if I'm doing it right it's not working. I was reading online and I didn't find much help. I live in Pakistan so I can't go to apple store. Please tell me a solution !!?

  • Blackberry Desktop for Mac Is Not Complete - Still Have to Use PC Version Sometimes

Blackberry Desktop for Mac is incomplete in this way - if your OS gets wiped out (as it wants to do upon initial install, as it tries to update your BB OS) - and if it gets hung in the process - as happened to me - then the ONLY way to fix is to go BACK to a PC and use the PC version of Blackberry Desktop.
It's incredible, but that is what I learned.  I installed Blackberry Desktop for Mac.  It  wanted to initiate an OS upgrade first thing.  I allowed it to do so and it wiped out the OS on my Blackberry.  Leaving me with a 507 error.  I called Verizon.  They switched me to Blackberry.  Blackberry said I could only get clear of the 507 error by finding a PC - somewhere - and installing Blackberry Desktop for PC on that PC.
Blackberry then switched me back to Verizon, and they said that since I didn't have a PC, they had to send me a new Blackberry - and they had to charge me for it! (They said that the local Verizon store could not repair the OS).
I refused to pay $50+ for a new phone necessitated by the failure of Blackberry Desktop for Mac to be able to deal with a 507 error.  I spoke to Blackberry Support, again (this was about a 6 hour process), and they admitted that the provider - Verizon - did not support some sort of feature in the OS initialization process, meaning that Blackberry Dektop for Mac could not be used, one has to use Blackberry Desktop for PC no matter what in some circumstances (such as a 507 error upon OS upgrade).
Blackberry switched me back to Verizon.  This time, Verizon stated that the local Verizon store could upload a new OS.  So I shlepped off to the local Verizon store and, another hour later, they installed the new OS.
Once the new OS was installed, Blackberry Desktop for Mac was able to synch and works just fine (much better than PocketMac).  However, my fear is that when the next OS update comes out, if the same thing happens again (i.e., if the OS update freezes again), I will be left having to either look for a PC somewhere to run Blackberry Desktop for PC, or go to the Verizon store.
So, word to the wise.  Blackberry Desktop for Mac is not complete vis-a-vis Verizon.  It cannot be complete if they tell you that you have to use Blackberry Desktop for PC in certain circumstances.
    Gary

This is often the problem with the new features that Apple implement more and more for each functionalities and moving them to "the cloud" (iCloud).
Thus physically removing the files from the Mac makes the BBDM (logically) unable to sync with no-more existing files on the computer...
This is the case currently for the address book and iCal. I guess that new functionalities in iTunes might have the same effect. Haven't you enabled new features recently in iTunes?
    Like "iTunes match" for example?...
Please don't forget to mark as "solved" if your question is replied and to "like" a useful reply to your post ;-)
