My mac mail tells me there are 168 incoming messages but then only receives six
I'm using the latest version of mail but not very good in dealing with computer problems.  My email supplier is Bt Internet.
Can anyone help

I have seen something similar once. A message on the mail server was corrupted and the download would never complete, but would always start the next time I launched Mail. It was the oldest message, so Mail always started with it, blocking all other mail. Deleting the file on the server was the solution. Don't know if that fits your situation. Good luck. BTW, I called my ISP's tech support and they watched the server's actions and could see that the file was not actually transferring. Give yours a call.

  • Won't get juno mail messages says there are no new messages but there are.

I installed Thunderbird for my multiple email accounts. Works fine with yahoo, aol, and Gmail. But, it will not get any messages from my web based Juno account. I've double checked all the settings (pop incoming, port 995, smpt outgoing, SSL encryption, etc.) and nothing works. I keep getting a message saying there are no new messages, but there are multiple new messages in the account. It does send.
    Thanks

Thunderbird connects to mail providers using the POP and IMAP mail protocols. If the provider does not support these protocols (or blocks access to them for certain customers) then Thunderbird can not work with that provider.
    Have you followed these steps
To begin getting Juno email on your phone or other email program, change your Juno email settings with these simple steps:
    1. Sign in to your Juno Email on the Web at webmail.juno.com
    2. Click on "Options" and select "General," or click on "Settings" and select "POP Mail" under "Preferences"
    3. Select "ON - POP my mail to my desktop/smartphone"
    4. Click "Save" to finish

  • My Mac mail is showing that I have flagged messages, but I've cleared them all out! I'm running Mac mail 7.3.

My Mac mail is showing that I still have flagged messages in my Inbox, but I've cleared them all out. I'm running Mac mail 7.3 on my Macbook Pro, OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. Most of the fixes that I've found are for Smart mailboxes, which I don't use - this is solely for my flagged messages. My Junk and Trash mailboxes have been cleared as well.

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.

  • No unread emails though Mail tells me there are...

Mail keeps telling me (via the icon on the dock) that I have unread emails. However, I don't.
Any suggestions on how to clear that number or ferret out the problem?
    Thanks!

That's brilliant, and also so obvious, once you've done it. I'm kicking myself that I didn't think of that sooner, I've been sitting around with 6 unread emails for months like a proper fool.
I'd just like to add that using this method my "unread" emails showed up as not being in any mailbox and had no actual content to them hence not being able to find them in the inbox, or any custom mailbox.
Also this will show up all the unread RSS messages. You can weed these out by adding an extra rule in your smart mailbox about the mail type.

  • I just installed Chatzilla to access IRC. I can connect, log into a server, and join a channel...but there are no incomming messages.

As stated, I can get all the way to being able to join a channel, but I don't any 'chatting' going on. I can see the user list, I can see the MOTD, I can do a listing, but no incoming traffic from the channel. I installed mIRC just to see, but same thing. I am thinking that there is some generic setting common to both clients that I am missing somehow, but I really don't know.
Is this a common error that I might be making? Is it a connectivity issue, or similar?
There is not a lot of info regarding this specific problem that I can find.
    What do you guys think?

I will be around there later today (it is 4:45 am here). Thanks for the answer re: /attach, and your replies. I am already learning shortcuts to stuff I don't know yet!
We will see how it flies...wish me luck.

  • When I open iPhoto it tells me there are recovered photos

When I open iPhoto it tells me there are recovered photos & do I want to save them. When I click no it saves them anyway as Recovered Photos in Albums. When I open these files they are blank. This is very annoying as I have to go to Albums & delete these files.

The "recovered" album contains links to "lost&found" photo files in your iPhoto Library. Sometimes iPhoto will find orphaned photos in the iPhoto Library, that are not referenced by any photo in your events.  As a precaution they will be collected in the "recovered" album. Before you try to delete them, I would wait a bit. You may discover, that some photo has lost the connection to the original image file, and then you can retrieve it from the "recovered" album. But sometimes the recovered items are just leftovers, when there was trouble to empty the trash for example, or when iPhoto was "force-quit" and could not complete a file operation.
Since your "recovered" photos are blank and empty, they are useless as a replacement for missing photos, but there are very useful as an inventory of photos that may have been lost and need to be checked, if they are o.k. Occasionally I discovered that indeed a photo was missing, by carefully looking at the recovered items. Then I knew, what I had to restore from my TimeMachine backup.

  • I emptied my iPhoto trash but it tells me there are over 300 photos in my trash yet I can't find them and the trash looks empty?

After problems with iPhotos I emptied my iPhoto trash but it tells me there are still over 300 photos in the trash yet it looks empty and I can't find apparently still existing photos. How can I make the number go and tells me my trash is on zero?

    First ry the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If the above doesn't help continue with  the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

While using it my iPad spontaneously came up with the message "This iPad cannot back up to iCloud without a verified e-mail address".  There are two buttons to push: "Later" and "Settings". Pushing either button does nothing.  It acts as if it is frozen.  If I try to slide the off switch, it does not slide.  I assume it is frozen.  How do I get out of this?

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Hej. My Mac air says that there are 687mb  of photos in use. But i have no photos on my mac.

If you have some applications, it could easily be clipart that was included. Even MS Office has folders of clipart. 687 MB isn't all that much these days, if you have a few apps that include some.

  • Mac Mail was down, now it's back up but I have no new emails!!!

So since yesterday my Mac Mail (iCloud) account was down. Then just randomly right now it appears to be working (the alert icon is gone.) I'm able to send outgoing email, but when I sent out a test email to myself it was sent successfully but is nowhere to be found in my inbox. Also it says I have "0" new emails, when I normally average between 100-125 emails a day. WHERE ARE MY EMAILS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I've started to receive emails - be aware that the time stamp on emails in Mac Mail and in iCloud are showing as different. So emails that appear to have just been sent MAY actually be from yesterday and earlier today when iCloud was down.
This is the same email - top example is from Mac Mail, bottom from iCloud webmail - note the different times.
