My macbook air is generating a strong electrical current! HEALTH concerns!

Hi everyone,
I am using an American macbook air in Hong Kong, China. I have been living in Hong Kong for a while now, but only recently noticed this NEW problem (I have had at least 3-4 other problems that my computer had to be "hospitalized" for in both Hong Kong and Japan [also used to live in Japan]).
My macbook is garbage, and I am highly disappointed in Apple...but nevertheless, now I am a bit worried about my health!!
Two weeks ago I noticed that when I touched the body of my Mac when it was *charging* I could feel a strange moving sensation...especially if I rubbed a finger across the case. Since my computer has had so many problems despite hardly even moving it from my room, I thought hopefully it would go away.
Unfortunately, today I was using my computer unplugged, but realized the battery was almost gone. I had it in my lap and was chatting with a friend on Skype, so just plugged the charger in. I felt the current as usual, but suddenly my stomach (where my laptop was rested) began to feel like it was turning...and then suddenly my stomach felt very hot INSIDE and not normal, so I immediately removed my laptop. I am now using it unplugged with only 2% battery because I am scared to use it while charging anymore!!!
THIS IS NOT OKAY!!!
Even after I removed the laptop and drank water, my stomach still feels weird. What is wrong with my computer? Is it possible to get it replaced (even for the same year/make...it's a Summer 2010 model)? I cannot take all these problems, and now I am very worried about my health...just because I used my computer while charging!

Thank you for your response Eustace, however, it IS Apple's duty to inform me of whether I should be alarmed or not. This is their product, and they should be aware of whether similar situations have occured before, and what the outcomes were.
If anyone is aware of health problems caused by Apple products, it (at least should) be Apple. Not only is this their product, but they have millions of customers. A doctor is not specialized in health concerns due to Apple products, nor do they typically have millions of customers!
Furthermore, I should not have to pay to see a doctor and receive medical treatment (if necessary) because of their defective products. I never agreed that it was okay to electricute me when I bought any of their products!

IPhoto Libary viewable on MacBook Pro *and* MacBook Air

I just bought my wife a MacBook Air (MBA) for Xmas and we currently have a MacBook Pro (MBP). We have iPhoto '11 installed on the MBP (will be installing it on MBA after xmas) however I know that she is going to want to view the photo's on the MBA. We are running Time Capsule (TC) over our wireless as our back up for the MBP.
Questions:
What is the best way to access the iPhoto library on the MBA?
Can I move the iPhoto library to the TC and then have both MBA and MBP access iPhoto that way ?If so, how can do I move the library and then point both MB* to the TC?
When downloading new photos would I be able to use either othe MB*s or only one and which one???
Same situation for iTunes?
Should I or can I make the MBP a "server" ?
Basically looking for the best way to access both iPhoto and iTunes on a MBP and MBA.

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to here machine. There enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both machines for this to work.

Yes you can, but don't. A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

No, that is not possible as well as not preferred. If you setup a new Apple ID your previous purchases, downloads, etc. done with the old Apple ID will not longer be available unless you re-purchase them using the new Apple ID.

Installing over Ubuntu on MacBook Air 6,1

I have a dual-booted MacBook Air 6,1 (early 2013). Currently it's running Mac OS and Ubuntu. Ubuntu was mostly a test as this is the first Mac I've owned since OS 8, and I wanted to feel out the hardware for compatibility issues.
Now I'm looking into installing Arch. I've already partitioned the drive according to the wiki post prior to installing Ubuntu. My question is: Can I simply reformat the Ubuntu partition and proceed installing from there?

Migrating Data Between Two MacBook Airs

Hello All,
I am getting the new MacBook Air today (Mid 2012).
I currently have the Late 2010 11" MBA.
I have a WD NAS for documents, photos, videos, and other content.
I also have a Time Machine backup on a USB external hard drive.
I'd like to get the pros' recommendation when setting up the new MBA and migrating my data. I would prefer not to do a full restore from TM backup so as not to transfer (if any) bad files into the fresh OS. With that said, I really would like to to start from scratch. I am not too worried about documents because I use both the cloud and my NAS to permanently store most files. However, my dilemma is with installed applications and all my current settings. I have applications that were not installed via the Mac App Store and those, including their settings and licenses, I would like transferred to the new MBA. Actually, even the installed apps from the MAS, I'd like to keep the settings.
If restoring from TM backup is the only or best way, I won't oppose doing that too.
Everybody's expert advise will be very appreciated.

Congrats on your new Air!! When the new air first starts, setup assistant allows you to migrate from the TM backup. The is some granularity so it not really a "full restore". Pondini has a great site on this issue an more.

Putting a new battery into MacBook Air 1,1

Hello. I have a question regarding my MacBook Air's battery. I'm currently deciding to switch the battery for the new one because it has been 4 years and the battery can only last 1 hour 10 mins the most when fully charged. My question is if I pay $139 for the new battery, is this new battery the one for MacBook Air 4,1 (lasts 7 hours) or the one for the original MacBook Air 1,1 (lasts 5 hours). Thank you for reading.

You'd get the same model battery that came with your first generation MacBook Air, the one rated for 5 hours. Now another scenario to consider would be a DIY solution via iFixIt.com

They're the same price ($109.95) and the Mid-2009 battery says it'll work in the original Air and has a higher mAh rating (which means it'll last longer).

How much electricity does a Macbook Air use?

I'm moving out and living on my own for the first time. It'll also be the first time I have to pay utility bills. I was wondering how much electricty a Macbook Air (2011) uses during use, sleep, and charging. I'm a college student so I don't have a lot of disposable income so I want to save as much as possible. If I remember correctly, my desktop computer used to shut down every time I opened iTunes when it would work just find when I did other things. Does that mean iTunes uses a lot of energy to operate?
Anyways, I'm wondering if the usage of electricity is high for Macbook Air (2011) and whether I need to charge up my laptop at the nearest starbucks or library.

It uses very little power, cents/month. In any case the power adapter is 45watts so the max it could use would be equivelant to leaving a 45w light on all the time. Reality is much much less.

Theoretically, yes.
Heat, and heat cycling certainly do take a toll on even solid state components. I have several "very old" Macintosh computers, and the logic boards exhibit the effects.
The fan too, running at higher speeds, does eventually cause wear. More than anything, the higher airflow leads to a higher propensity for dust accumulation on the fan, and the heat exchangers.
In practical terms though, maybe not so much. If you plan on having your computer exhibit a reasonable useful life before you retire it or upgrade, you may never experience any of the detrimental effects. I rarely use a computer longer than 3 years, before I sell, give it away, or just stop using it.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. Your computer is well designed to give you a long life, even in the manner in which you describe. Take care of it, but use it for what you bought it for. Nothing you mention is in any way, abuse.

Can someone recommend a strong macbook case that will protect my 13" macbook air?

i need a case (NOT a shell) that will effectively protect my macbook air while it is in my bag so it wont bedented or bent in any way. price can not be over £70 and it MUST BE VERY STRONG.

EXIF data is metadata related to the photo (the content of the file), and therefore relevant to photography applications.
The Finder isn't a photography application, it's a file system browser. It's really only concerned with file metadata. And really, anything else would be out of scope...if the Finder was to be capable of sorting by EXIF date/time data, then why not demand it be sortable by music ID3 Tag metadata, or who knows what?
As mentioned, the best way to sort photos by photo-specific data is to use a photography application like iPhoto. Or, if you want to spend a bit and get more professional features, Aperture. And of course there all all sorts of other third-party applications at almost every price-point imaginable.

I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
