My MacBook Air wont remember network settings.

Works fine until I put it to sleep and then when I open it up it starts looking for a network.

You could try deleting and re-creating the WiFi network: System Preferences>Network, click on WiFi (Airport) on the left and delete it using the minus key at the bottom of the window. Then click on the plus sign and at the interface drop-down menu select WiFi (Airport) and recreate your network. Any other devices you have will possibly need to be re-associated with this new network and you'll need your WiFi password when recreating the network.
Ideally the encryption should be WPA/WPA2 rather than WEP - more secure and apparently Macs don't play nice with WEP.
Just noticed you've posted in the iMac forum, might get a better response here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_air

  • My MacBook Air wont turn on. HELP!

My MacBook Air wont turn on, I bought this past September (as a birthday gift for myself) and this Sunday I was using it perfectly, then at night it didn't turn on. I tried several times to turn it on and it did once, I thought "Yes finally" but two minutes later it turned off and never to turn on again. I have taken care of my mac book so much, that I really dont know whats wrong. I bought on I trip I did to the US and I live in Honduras, we don't have an Apple store here not even a Genius bar for me to go and see whats the problem, I thought this machines were for life, like I literally cried so bad because I had to work SO hard to buy this computer and now its just not working.. why? I dont know. If theres any tricks to making this turning back ON please let me know.
    Thanks APPLE...

okay, since you are in Honduras, I'll share what my Genius told me when he reset the SMC on my 11 inch mid-2013 Mac Air yesterday.  He took it in back of the Apple store, came back in about five minutes with everything working. I asked him if there was anything I had done to cause the problem, he said no, except it might be better to actually "shutdown" the computer from the Apple pull-down menu when you aren't going to use the machine for more than a couple of hours (e.g., overnight).  If the instructions in Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support didn't work, As for self-repair, he said this is what you would have to do (but he also said, you really don't want to do this yourself): you have to remove the bottom of the Mac Air (under the keyboard), and disconnect the battery. Then, with the battery disconnected, you plug in the power cord attach it to the Air, and then turn on the computer from the keyboard on/off switch while powered only by the power supply. That should reset the SMC.  Then shut down the system from the Apple menu (not the keyboard button/switch), reinstall the battery, replace the bottom/cover, and see if it works.  Just remember that fiddling inside the back of a Mac can be dangerous to the Mac and your warranty!  Good luck

    Hello King Cutway
If you are having issues with the functions keys, then check the settings in System Preferences > Keyboard and look to see if Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys is unchecked so you can use it properly.

  • How do I restore my 2011 MacBook Air to its original settings?

How do I restore my 2011 MacBook Air to its original settings for resale?  When I do the cmd R and go through the process, it begins the restore process for Mountain Lion because I upgraded to Mountain Liion on this machine a few months ago.  And it's asking for my Apple ID.  If I do that upgrade, the buyer will have a version of Mountain Lion that is associated with my Apple ID and that won't work.  Also, isn't there licensing issues in such a case?  I want to restore the MacBook Air to its original factory settings when I purchased it in April of 2011.  At that time it was Lion and not Mountian Lion.  And I don't want any software on this computer to be associated with my Apple ID.
    Thanks for all your help.
    Ron

Press Command, Option and R keys on boot, open Disk Utility, erase your disk and reinstall Lion

  • How do I reformat a macbook air to original factory settings?

I am trying to reformat my macbook air to original factory settings. I don't need to use any of the files currently on the HD, so just a clean wipe is all I need. Can anyone help?

I think there is two ways of doing this. The first way would be using your disk that came with your MacBook Air and it would also be the best way since that will ensure that everything is back to normal factory settings, however if you don't have the disk you might just wanna try another method. The other method is creating a new user account named "Administator" (or whatever you prefer) and then logging into that account and deleting your account (the one that your trying to restore). This will delete all files and user-prefrences.
*Note: Method 2 won't delete any applications, to do this you would need to use an app called AppCleaner.

  • My macbook air wont boot up. Just beeps every 5 seconds and a white light flashes on front of keyboard

My macbook air wont boot up. Just beeps every 5 seconds and a white light flashes on front of keyboard

That normally indicates an issue with system memory. The startup sequence can't complete the boot due to a memory issue. Take it in for service.

My (UK bought) MacBook Air wont open open Chilean (.cl) websites - anyone know why? Or what I can do to change this?

Go to the main Library folder and look for a folder called Application Support / Microsoft.
There are a few folders in there, and you may have to do some digging. In one of them (mine is called MAU2.0), there should be a file called Microsoft Autoupdate. Open it.
    It looks like this:
check the button for manual updates.
That should let you open the apps without triggering an automatic update.

Your boot drive is damaged in some way. If you have an original installation disc, you can boot from that and run Disk Utility. From DU you can select your internal hard drive ("Macintosh HD" is the name Apple puts on it - you may have renamed yours) and select "Verify Disk". If errors come up, try "Repair Disk". If it repairs, then you should be able to restart and boot from it. If it doesn't show up or won't repair, your drive is probably hosed.

  • My MacBook Air wont startup after login

my MacBook Air wont startup after login???

Try to boot your computer in Safe Mode: restart and hold the shift key down.
This can take some time, so be patient.
    Explanation here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
If thyis leads to the computer booting, you can restart without holding the shift key down.

Yours would appear to be an original 2008 vintage model, which unlike the more recent MBA systems did not have a recovery partition.
There is no downloadable source of the MacOS reinstall disk that I know of (none that are legal at any rate) but you should be able to get a copy of the DVD from Apple. The user guide for this model (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Air_Users_Guide.pdf if you also do not have that) explains the procedure for MacOS reinstall using the original disk.

  • NEW MACBOOK AIR WONT RECOGNISE AIRPORT

I have a new MacBook Air - have spent 7 hours trying to get it to recognise and link to my AIRPORT and still no joy . I have my old MACBOOK PRO linked up, no problems ,and I have mirrored all the settings but  the new one  still cant find the AIRPORT and on the odd occasion that it does , it eventually times out .
Have re-set the AIRPORT and done everything that the Apple Tech Man advised but nothing doing - feel like throwing the stupid thing out of the window .
Also, it wont recognise my external hard drive so all the back ups that I have made, cant be transferred to my new machine.
The whole point of having two machines was to make sure I was never left in a position like I was the other week with a broken hard drive and no way of runnimg my business but I have been unable to do any work for over two weeks - Apple Support non existant .
So any ideas would be very welcome . Thanks

As no one replied I would just say that I now know that you dont need McAfee security on a MAC - if you do , AIRPORT and your MacBook wont connect using AIRPORT TIME CAPSULE so dont let the store you buy your MAC from sell you MCAFEE  - its not needed

  • NEW MACBOOK AIR WONT RECOGNISE EXTERNAL HD NOW !

Well, I am almost on the verge of giving up - not only will this new MACBOOK AIR not link to the AIRPORT it also wont open my external hard drive with all my back up data on it.
I am in despair , I cant see the external hard drive in Disc Utilities , (its plugged into the mains ) and I am feeling  less than impressed with this new machine - nothing works on it at all  and I just cant recover anything from my back ups - we have the need for backing up drilled into us so why when I do everything I should, does this new machine not respond - the old one has no problems at all but I need to run a network now .
Can anyone help at all ?

    KarryGee
tried to access my recovered HD on my old machine.........- and that data was transferred from a PC
You didnt mention that initially, if the data on the HD came from a PC, then the HD is likely NTFS formatted and cannot be used with your Mac.
Youll need another HD and format same in EXFAT for read/write from/to both PC and MAC, however if you plan on using time machine with your Mac, the drive will need to be formatted in Mac OSX ext. journlaed (HFS+).
Please specify what your "older machine" is?
You said---"but I have just tried to access my recovered HD on my old machine and I no longer can"
if your older machine is a Mac, then it is likely that the WD software in conjunction with Mavericks has caused data corrupted (as in the links mentioned above).
If your older machine IS a PC, then the HD has likely failed OR MORE likely the SATA bridge card has failed.
You said---has completly ruined 7 years of work
No, if the SATA bridge card failed (very common actually), then the HD is fine, see full info about that sort of failure here:
Your dead external hard drive is likely fine! Great hope for your 'faulty' external HD
