If you did a #8 Reinstall Just OS X, leaving your programs and files alone and Software Updated to 10.6.8
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then your problem may be with:
1: A particular third party software your running or is a log in item, a System Preference pane or Finder menu bar item.
2: Some sort of corrupted program support file located in the Users/Library folder or a corrupted User/Library. Create a new User account and log in to see.
3: Corrupted Users Permissions on your files in Users folder. See Step by Step to fix your Mac
4: Malware (ClamXav update/scan)
5: Bad sectors on the hard drive  - Reducing bad sectors effect on hard drives
6: Bad drive or other hardware problem - replace  - Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
Run through the Step by Step list to narrow down your cause.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Make sure you have a backup of your user folders on a external storage drive (TimeMachine may be corrupted) and disconnected.

  • My macbook pro eraised I cant reinstall OS X help urgent

    hi there,
I eraised all my macbook by mistake. I try to reinstall OS X but its showing get online help please help me....

Okay, it sounds like you completely erased the drive. As in repartitioned it, which will also trash the hidden recovery partition.
Restart again and hold down Command+Option+R to go into Internet Recovery. Sounds like it's already trying to do that, but try again anyway.
Mind you, this will be slow. The Mac has to download a bit over 4 GB of data, and then install it. If you don't have a very fast Internet connection, this could easily take hours.

  • My Macbook is slow down after installing Maverick OSX...!!!!

    Hi everi body...
When I updated Maverick OSX from Mountain Lion 10.8.5, boot up speed is increase and my battery is discharge very fast.
Also I use this command to Quick Sleep:
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
But when I put my MAC to sleep, it is about 50 ~ 70 seconds long but in Mountain Lion it is done in 4 or 5 Seconds.

  • Macbook running slow

    Hi,
A few people have asked this question, my macbook is running very slow and the mouse spinning circle comes up quite a lot. I am unsure of why it is doing this.
I have attached a copy of the EtreCheck I have done on my system.
Can you please have a look and see if you can see if there is anything wrong, as I am unsure of what I am looking at.
    Thanks for your help

Either update or remove the Vodafone software and see whether there's an improvement.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

Sorry ... I read but was unfortunately distracted from your original post.  You have a system that came with Lion.  The Lion that is on your system is only for your computer and cannot be downloaded from the app store again because you never purchased it officially through the App Store.
Try this for making an external USB/DVD copy of Recovery on an external disk.  internet is still required for reinstall, though, I believe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848.  But at least you have a separate Recovery Partition if you ever need a fully new and empty internal disk.
Your assumption is incorrect. Although he may not be able to download it from the App store he can download it directly for the Apple servers using the recovery partition on his original drive.
All you have to do is start the install routine and then point the install to an external hard drive. Once the download is finished the computer will reboot to start the install. At that reboot disconnect the external drive so the install can not start. Boot the computer back into the OS on the internal hard drive, which is what will happen automatically once the external drive is disconnected. Then connect the external and copy the files from it that were downloaded. Right click on that downloaded package file and select Show contents. In the contents of that package is a file called InstallESD.DMG. Copy that file out of the package and burn it down to a DVD or USB thumb drive and you now have the Full Lion Installer. I have several of them laying around on different hard drives and 2 USB thumb drives which I have used to reinstall Lion on my 15" MBP.
Sorry OP I should of just typed this out in my first post.

  • My macbook is slow how can I tell if I have a virus?

My MacBook is slow starting up and slow when I am on internet going to sites.  I read somewhere that there is a adobe flash that is actually some sort of virus?  I beleive I had the pop up and hit install.  How do I fix if this is the problem?

Adobe Flash is not a virus but Flash content is very resource-hungry. Flash developers don't know or care about your hardware or bandwidth, both of which have limitations. Buying a new computer simply so that you can look at Flash-based advertisements makes little sense to me. Just avoid sites that use Flash.
There are no viruses for Mac OS X. Keep it updated with software from Apple using Software Update. Without a more specific description of your hardware, the amount of memory you have installed, what third party system modifications you may have made, and what version of Mac OS X you are using, it is difficult to provide more specific guidance than that.
Read the following to determine if something may apply to your concern:
Do not download or install any product claiming to magically "clean up" or "speed up" or "optimize" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite. If you already did, you found the problem. Fix it.
If you're experiencing general slowdowns or "freezes" unrelated to Internet activity, the problem may be related to your computer or the software you installed and is something you may be able to fix, or at least improve. Aside from hardware failures and software that you install, including OS upgrades, there is no reason that your computer should not work precisely the same as it did when it was new.

  • My macbook is slow to load any software since loading lion

Since i have loaded os Lion my macbook runs slow and programmes take a time to load how can i improve its performance.  i generally use my macbook for itunes and photos.

My suggestion is to reinstall Lion:
    Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Macbook 2010 slow after upgrading OS X

    Hello.
I use a MAcbook unibody late 2010. I upgrated to OS X Mavericks and everything was running very smooth (I updated from 10.8.5).
But, a few weeks later, I updated my Microsoft Office 2011 and immediatly I started to have problems with my Mac.
I tried reseting PRAM and SCM. I tried rebuildind the Microsfot Office Database, but the problems continues... It got to a point where I had to configure spotlight, so that it doesn't indez anything!! It just keeps indexing for very long! Then after I reboot my Mac, it starts everything all over again!
I used disk utilities, but everything seems under control!
    1. My OS X Mountail Lion Recovery Partition wasn't erased! I have two now: OS X 10.8 RP & OS X 10.9 RP;
    2. I used 'EtreCheck' and got this...

NOTE: I KNOW MY HDD IS TO FULL! BUT IT WASN'T WHEN THE SLOWNESS STARTED!!! It can't be the fact that the HDD is to full!
I'm desperate! CAn anyone tell me why this is happening?!?!?
    Thanks in advance!

You need more RAM. Mavericks will run with 2 GB of RAM, but it won't run well. My MBP 8,2 has 8 GB and a SSD and is fast.
You also need more free space on your HD, regardless of when the slowness started. It's not helping.
You are not really running OSX, but your own heavily modified version of OSX, with a lot of background processes running. Apple recommends that developers not use background processes in apps any more.
You can test this theory by doing a safe boot: restart and hold down shift. A safe boot does some diagnostic testing and then starts up without added-on third party software. I bet your Mac will run much faster. But a safe boot doesn't fix anything, it just tells you where the problem is.
I would try to uninstall as much of the background processes as you can. On the top of the list of suspects would be:
    all the kernel extensions.
freemacsoft.appcleaner (this is crapware. Crapware is anything that purports to “optimize”,  “clean”, “accelerate”, “monitor”, or “protect” your Mac. Unnecessary.
google keystone daemon (on the frequent flyer list for misbehaving slow macs, for excessive phoning home)
all the intego stuff. Antivirus software is minimally useful on macs, and often slows things down.
CleanMyMac is crapware, almost the worst crapware there is. Should really be called, “TakeABigShitOnMyMac”. Not only unnecessary, but frequently harmful to your OS. It can damage your OS beyond a simple repair. You may have to do a clean reinstall.
    DriveGenius
If I were you, I'd just back up my documents, erase the HD, and do a clean reinstall of Mavericks, because CleanMyMac has probably damaged your OS. After your clean install you can install the apps you really need, and make sure they are compatible with Mavericks, and not reinstall any crapware.

  • WiFi stops working after install of latest 10.8.5 update on MacBook 5,1 third time reinstall OS X

WiFi stops working after install of latest 10.8.5 update on MacBook 5,1 third time reinstall OS.
MB used as email and surfing tool when on vacation. Worked fine for months. Installed the latest security patch (update) and WiFi quit working. Two days later (still on vacation) WiFi started working again and worked fine for the next 2 days.
Came home and formatted and reinstalled 10.8.5 and all was fine again. We are selling the MacBook and setup new user, everything worked fine.
The update came up again so I decided to install it and WiFi instantly stopped working after the restart.
Does anybody have any idea what is happening.
    Thanks

Not really, although WiFi has been a longstanding problem for lots of people. I fix for some breaks others.
However, if you are trying to sell it, you need to revert it back to the OS that shipped with it. You cannot sell your copy of Mountain Lion with the Mac. It is only licensed to you.
You also need to include the system disks that came with the Mac. If it came with Leopard (10.5), and you have a Snow Leopard (10.6) disk, you can install that if you provide that disk also.

  • Mid 2010 macbook pro slow to sleep. No print queu issues.

Hey everyone! My Mid 2010 macbook pro slow is slow to go to sleep. I have read several community forums and I've checked for old print jobs (which seems to be a common issue) and have found none. I've also reset all printers and jobs.  Anyways, it takes 35 to 60 seconds to go sleep (until fan/harddrive turns off/I see blinking white light).  This slow sleep occurs even with a complete fresh install of Mavericks, and even after installing a new SSD. I am honestly at a loss.
I did the "pmset -g log" command and I have found two reoccurring things that I think might be the reason (though I don't really understand it fully). I commonly see "TimedOut InternalPreventSleep "com.apple.powermanagement.darkwakelinger" 00:00:15" commonly and "PreventUserIdleSystemSleep "Address Book Source Sync" 00:00:30".  I have bolded both of these below:

so i installed lion on my friends macbook pro and it didn't let me log into his personal username like after you turn it on it just hilghts his name and the bar to type in his password doesn't show you. so what i was thing is to back up his personal hard drive and restoring it and try to reinstall lion.. from a momory stick that i have put lion on as my personal copy. any way on doing it better or how to restore the mac and be able to reinstall lion plz help.

    Chuck
Without knowing what exactly has gone wrong it is difficult to be precise, but it sounds a bit like you are attempting to install YOUR copy of Lion on your friend's machine?
I'm not sure the licence allows you to do that.
IF you are attempting to install a legitimate copy of Lion on his machine, then I would suggest you try again. That sometimes works.
Do you / he have a backup?
Have you tried starting from the recovery disk and repairing the hard drive etc.?

    Guitar21,
your MacBook Pro has booted into its Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities menu, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get to the login screen now?

  • Hello, I have mistakenly deleted all partitions on my mac while trying to install windows on my macbook pro, how do i reinstall the mac os back

Hello, I have mistakenly deleted all partitions on my mac while trying to install windows on my macbook pro, how do i reinstall the mac os back. I just wanted to have them both, please help. thank you in advance

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
