My macbook pro broke down way too many times!

Hi
I bought my macbook pro in 2007 so it's been 3 years and my applecare is ready to expire.
and within that 3 years, my macbook pro has gone to get it fixed for more than 6 times. Anything that you can imagine, broke down.
Logic board, fans, speakers, keyboards, usb plug-ins, software issue, hard drive broke down twice, battery replaced, charger replaced, screen replaced, my screens bent due to heat, part of my comp is melted due to heat too, and etc.
I study graphic design in university right now. and this piece of junk is hunting me everynight because these problems happen over night. I would turn my computer off ok, and when I wake up, somethings always wrong. I'm always scared and backing my stuff because I don't know when this piece of junk will break down. It's really stressing me out.
Today, I woke up and turned my macbook pro like usually, and my screens black but everything else is running. Again, another fixing problem (heard that its due to the nvidia graphic issue)
so I am really upset and ****** off more so. I've gone to the applestore at least 10 times already and everytime I go, they are very cold and rude to me.
so I talked to the manager last time when my computer broke down saying, I am really upset and ****** off about your customer service and this stupid junk. I lost alot of my files and was late to submit my works due to this stupid junk. What are you going to do? and all they said was I'm sorry we understand. Clearly they dont understand. and I saw alot of my friends who got new laptops after breaking down once with similar problem as mine. but why am I not getting a new laptop? is there a way to fix this problem? or am I gonna live with this comp till i buy a new one?
please help me.

I would tend to agree with your points here. (Except that it is not "a piece of junk").
My macbook pro is also from 2007 (august) and has had a number of different problems - mostly due to overheating.
Added to these problems in Ireland is that Apple do not have an official mac store here ... so it has to go to a service provider each time. That's more than likely 1+ weeks away each time it needs to be sent away for repair.
One time I sent it back they replaced the screen with the incorrect resolution so it was away for almost 3 weeks in total. When it got back the screen squeaked when I was opening it. I called Apple (luckily I have 3 year applecare) but they told me to deal directly with the partner service provider. I didn't feel this was acceptable because I purchased the Apple Care from Apple - not the service provider.
I almost had to pay for shipping each time but I argued with them on the phone. I don't feel this is acceptable level of service.
After the third time with something broken on my MBP I requested a new machine. They ignored me.
I disagree that the MBP is "a piece of junk". It is not. But it does have problems. Overheating seems to be its biggest problem and that leads to other faults. The thing that Apple does not seem to see is that the overheating leads to long-term damage but by the time this long-term damage becomes obvious the Apple Care is gone so the customer is left to fend for themselves.
Apple service in Ireland is a terrible setup. Apologies if I have hi-jacked your thread but I am also angry.

  • Macbook Pro broke down

    Dear readers,
My colleague’s 2009 Macbook Pro just stopped working 2 weeks ago. Black screen out of nowhere, and no way to turn it back on. After technical investigation it turns out the Logic board and graphics-card are broken. Replacement will cost around € 600.
He called Apple, but they told him they couldn’t help him since the warranty has expired. In my opinion though, warranty in The Netherlands is minimal the reasonable expected lifetime of the machine.
What to do? You can't expect him to just pay €600 for repairs after nearly 2 years of normal use?

sorry to hear that. not much else you can do besides replace the machine or logic board. If you think that the law in your location covers this, then I would explore that some more. In the USA there is a set period for warranty, but then each state has more detailed or specific laws as well covering warranty.

  • MacBook Pro & SecondLife crashing way too much

Hey ya, I just bought a MacBook Pro yesterday and am loving it so far; however, it crashes A LOT while playing secondlife. I have redone the settings on SL but it still crashes about every 90 minutes. In fact, it freezes up the screen completely and I cannot even do a force quit with SL. Not good, huh.
Anyone have a clue as to why it is freezing my screen, and thereby locking up the computer? I could use some help.
    Thanks,

So it seems to be a VERY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT APPLE NEEDS TO FIX IMMEDIATELY!
It's TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE for a Mac to ever crash fully requiring a hardware reboot, as is the case here. I highly doubt that it is Second Life's fault that the whole system crashes utterly. I submitted bug reports to LL and to Apple on this matter however, so hopefully it gets cleared up soon! (I bought this computer specifically to run SL, it's annoying, VERY annoying to have to run it in Windows because then I don't have my Illustrator CS3 for all the vendors work I do in SL).
Also I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having this problem! I thought I was going crazy. I am running it under Bootcamp in
I heard that Leopard is going to address the OpenGL performance issue, though, which is very encouraging:
    OpenGL Improvements
OpenGL is the industry-standard API for developing portable, interactive 2D and 3D applications. Mac OS X has supported OpenGL from the outset and in Leopard it supports the latest OpenGL 2.1 specification which adds pixel buffer objects, color managed texture images in the sRGB color space, and improvements in the shader programming API.
Leopard also provides a dramatic increase in OpenGL performance by offloading CPU-based processing onto another thread which can then run on a separate CPU core feeding the GPU. This can increase, or in some cases, approach double the performance of OpenGL-based applications.

  • I want to transfer my photos from iPhone to my macbook pro as I have done many times before but I pressed (don't trust instead of trust) accidentally and now can't access the photos at all on the computer.

My phone is an iPhone 4
computer is a macbook pro OS X 10.8.5
When I plugged in the phone it asked me to unlock the phone with my password which I did.
Then it asked if I trust the device and I accidentally pressed don't trust. On the computer ( iPhoto) it told me there were no photos on the phone)
I tried unmounting the phone and retrying but get 0 photos now when there are many new ones.

iOS 7 devices need iTunes 11.1 or newer to sync.  Depending upon your computer and the OS it is running, you may not be able to upgrade to iTunes 11.1 based on the requirements for iTunes 11.1.  What computer and OS are you running your iTunes on?  From the iTunes download pages I see the requiorements are:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • Is there a way to have my logic bard replaced for a cheaper price? My coverage finished a month ago and I was quoted 600 for that repair. Quite upset that my MacBook pro broke down a month after the coverage while during the year it had no issues at all.

Has anyone been able to file a complaint and get something out of it? And how

    Hi Henry,
Each situation is different. I recommend contacting Apple and discussing it with them in a calm manner.
If the LB has to be replaced, ask about a "depot repair." In the US, it is a bit under $350 and they will usually fix everything that needs fixing. Note that your MBP needs to "qualify" for this repair, and only Apple can determine if it will.

  • Why Am I Having to Make Way Too Many Hard Restarts?

Over the past couple of weeks, my wife and I have managed to lock up one or more programs to the point that it is necessary to shut down the computer using the power switch. The latest examples involve editing existing MS Word 2008 files in compatibility mode, but last week it was iTunes and I forget what other program.
I switched to the Mac because Windows kept doing this sort of thing ...

    (1) We first noticed the problem after we had purchased a game called "Bejeweled 2".
If it was me and I had a full backup prior to the installation of the game, I would restore to that point.
I moved the game program to the trash,
Moving the program to the trash does not delete the program. Everything is still on your hard disk and if something in that game is causing the hang, that piece of code is still on your computer.
If the game has an "Uninstall" option on the install disk or in the downloaded DMG, I suggest running the Uninstall.
    Firmware updates?
Normally those will come up in the Software Update window. Once in a while I log into http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ then do a search on "Firmware" and my machine ID (Like iMac or MacBook Pro).
I just noticed that my external LaCie 1 GB drive,
I lost mine a few weeks ago as well. Odd. Shut down, unplug the drive, restart, then open Disk Utility. With Disk Utility running in the front window, plug in the LaCie drive and attempt to mount it.
Mine would not come back up so I reformatted it - using the GUID option - and it has been running flawlessly ever since.
Following is over the top, totally unnecessary OCD behavior of a nut who wants everything perfect. Feel free to totally ignore everything that follows.
I started managing networks and supporting individual PCs back in the 1980s. I developed some odd habits. One thing I learned with DOS and Windows computers was that it was often easier to start over than to spend weeks chasing a problem. Once I moved to Macs, I kept my old habits.
You probably do not want to copy my example, but here is what I do:
1.) When I buy a new computer, I transfer the OS installation disks to an external hard disk using the Restore function of disk utility.
2.) I also transfer all of my software installers to the same hard disk as disk images.
3.) When software updates are available, I download the files from the Downloads page to the same external drive. (I don't do the installs from Software Update; I only use that to tell me what needs updating.)
4.) When something goes really bad - almost always from third party software, almost never from Apple software - I wipe the hard drive on the computer and do a full clean reinstall from my external disk. Because EVERYthing - the OS, the updates, and all my applications - are on the external hard disk, the reinstall goes very fast.
Of course, when I do the clean reinstall, I skip whatever application or utility I suspect caused my problem.
The full clean reinstall takes up to three or four hours which I can do while watching an evening of TV. To me, this is a far far better use of my time than spending weeks trying to find that ONE application extension or preference file that is trashing my system.
(By the way, when I do the clean install, I NEVER restore the Library from my back up. I restore all my data from back up, but I trash the old Libraries because whatever went wrong is still in there ... like a bad Ktext extension from a wayward game or widget.)
Now just to prove I really am a NUT, my other system: I keep a firewire external drive cloned to my computer using SuperDuper! When I have updates or new applications, I shut down and boot from the clone. I install the update or the new application on the clone. If that doesn't crash my system, then I'll go ahead and reboot to the internal drive and repeat the installation.
Yep. I have WAY too much time on my hands. But.... I lost all of my staff computers to a bad Windows service pack several years ago and I decided "never again". The Apple OS is not prone to those types of regular Windows disasters, and I have never lost critical data on a Mac, and I have never had an entire department off-line for a week due to a bad Mac OS update. Still, I am old, old habits die hard, so I do this stuff with my Macs at home.
Of course I hope none of these extraordinary efforts are necessary in your case. With luck you can Uninstall the game, reformat your LaCie, and be back to flawless operation shortly.
Hope all this helps ... (jk)

  • My girlfriends Macbook Pro shuts down at the Apple Logo....

My girlfriends Macbook Pro shuts down at the Apple Logo....
    1)I start the computer
2)It loads to the apple logo
3)A progress bar shows and loads about 5% then it dissappears and a few seconds later the macbook pro shuts down.
    Any solutions?
If not, is there any way for me to reinstall the os without losing any files such as(any of her pictures, music, etc)?

    Hi S,
See if you can run Repair Disk: Boot frominstall disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key andkeep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screenselect the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in themenu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the leftside> click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’thappen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directoryis damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damagedHD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HDitself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, andrestart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > DiskUtility and run Repair Permissions.

  • Macbook Pro shutting down. Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90

Macbook Pro shutting down. Not the same action making it shutdown. Anywhere from being online to attaching a photo to an email to working in Word or Photoshop. Even after it's closed and not being used. I come back to it being shut off and saying it had to restart because of a problem. I ran the Hardware check and got the Hardware error code 4MEM/62/40000000:0x7f537f90.
I must say I am quite disappointed. I have used Mac for work but had a PC since day one, and I JUST got this Macbook Pro in Dec. I was delighted that Mac usually didn't have as many problems with viruses etc as PC. And now last couple days, constantly shutting itself down. The closest store to me is a few hrs away. I am in South Dakota, store is in Minnesota Any help would be appreciated.

You can also do the same without a screen shot using just text version using the following highlighted command in OSX Terminal. The output is also listed.

My MacBook Pro (nov 2008) had to many windows open and hung. With no response I choose to hold down the shut down button till it forced a hardware shutdown and it did. Now it shows the apple on the screen and the spinning thing but after 2hr nothing happens. When I forced it down it happened again. Any suggestion on what else I can do. I don't want to have to leave it at the Mac store for a several days for I have a key presentation Wed. Thanks so much for the help.

You might try a PRAM reset followed by a Safe Boot:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455?viewlocale=en_US
I've heard it recommended that you wait for the third chime, and then do a safe boot. It will take a fairly long time to do a safe boot.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
One other thing to do is to boot from your install disc and repair your boot disk. The hard shutdown could have caused some disk damage that needs to be repaired. Repair until there is nothing left to repair. If you find errors that disk Utility cannot repair, then you will need a stronger utility like Disk Warrior or Tech Tool pro.
    Good luck!

  • My macbook pro shuts down OSX and all my programs when the lid is closed

    Hi,
I am having a problem. My macbook pro shuts down OSX and all my programs when the lid is closed. I close the lid, and then I hear the shutdown music and then when I open it again it automatically restarts OSX and all my windows and programs are closed, any info gone.
This doesn't happen all the time. Just once a day or maybe twice a day. It seems like it happens basically when I have my computer just the way I want it, to keep an eye on things for the day.
I just recently switched to a mac and while somewhat savvy, I am not a programmer or techie, but it seems to me that when I shut the lid, it should do the same thing every time.
I have a intel core 2 duo 17 inch macbook pro with 2.33 processr and 2 gig ram, if that helps.
I am in alaska and there is no genius bar here and I am hoping to figure this out before I begin bugging our local independant mac store about this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lylah
17 inch Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   intel core 2 duo 2.33g. 2 gig ram

    Ahhh, enlightenment!
That would make sense. What I usually do, after closing the lid, is to wait for the apple to turn off and then set it down on it's side leaning it against the side table. I will try to wait for it to indicate that it is fully asleep before I move it next time. Personally, I prefer my computer to NOT fall asleep at all, but I am told it is not an option. Apparently this function is hardware related accoring to my local mac shop. They tracked it down for me because I hated this feature when I first bought my computer and was trying some way around it.
The shutdown music I was refering to was that music the mac makes when shutting down, which doesnt usually occur when it goes to sleep, unless it is malfunctioning like this.
What does resetting the pmu do? (what is a pmu as well?)
    Thank you very much.

  • My macbook pro shuts down automatically

    Hi,
My macbook pro battery condition has been showing that it needs to be replaced soon. Ever since I knew my battery was weak, I started using my macbook by always connection it to the power adapter that way the power source would be from adapter. Since last two days, while in use macbook pro shuts down on me automatically. It never said shutting down or anything like that. The screen just went blank instantly and when i checked the battery indicator lights, all of the battery is drained. When I presses the power button it started and then instantly shut down again. After few mins of  repeating, I am finally able to see that my computer is getting turned on. But this issue repeats almost on a daily basis since the last three four days. Even if my battery went bad, I should be able to use my computer by connecting it to the power adapter, right ? or do I have to mandatorily replace battery for my computer to work ? please help.
