My MacBook Pro crashed and need the files on my hard drive, but I only have a Windows PC. How can I get then out?
I got my MacBook Pro in 2004.
Over the years, I have put many files in it.
And now that it crashed, I need help to get then back.
The only problem is that I don't have another Mac, only a pc..

The first MBP was produced in 2006, so you either don't have a MBP or it's from 2006 or later.
You have no backup?
What "crashed?"
If the HD is good, you can put it in an external enclosure and access it with a Mac from there.

I was trying to turn off iTunes Match on my iPhone and first turned Match off on my MacBook rather than on my iPhone (which was wrong, I should have just turned it off on the iPhone). I had ~28,000 songs in my library when I turned off iTunes Match; I had deleted ~8,000 of those files from my laptop (which I backed up on a portable hard disk) but I left the deleted files in my library, so that I could play them through iTunes Match. One of the benefits of Match, right? Saving hard drive space. So I turned off iTunes Match on my MacBook thinking that was how to turn it off on the iPhone (it wasn't), and when I turned Match back on, those ~8,000 songs were not in my library. I tried to update Match several times but can't seem to get the songs back. I know they are still in the cloud somewhere though, because if Match restarted then it would match/upload all of my remaining ~20,000 songs - but it hasn't, I still have thousands of "exceeded limit" songs. Anyone know how I can get those songs back?

I would not use iTunes Match as a backup. There are too many bugs and I don't think that's what they intended it to be anyway. The main advantage of using it is to make your music available on OTHER devices, not to replace the music on your original computer. -
Hi, I have macbook Pro, running Leopard OS X. I partitioned my hard drive a while ago to install windows and only allowed myself 10 Gig of data. I deleted windows after i realised i wasnt enjoying using it at all and wasted my hard drive. I now decided that i want another OSX on there instead yet i have only allowed myself 10 gb on the partition. I have ben thru some programms but am struggling on making this partition bigger.
I only want it at 20gb but cant seem to make the partition bigger, only smaller or split it into further partition.
Is there a way to do this, i have all installation discs from original OSX so think this could help.
Any help please would be fantastic.
Thanks ChrisHi, dragging the partition will only make smaller, not larger. In disk utility you can only split or make smaller the partitions. Yes i booted from installation disks also but still no help.
And Brody, I am willing to erase the disc completely, infact jus started doing a backup in order to do so but that failed also. And the information you gave on partition a hard drive, Although very simple and i already know how to do this, but it wont let me make the partition bigger, and i dont want to make a new partition, just enlarge the one i already have, which i dont see possible from disk utility.
Getting really frustrated now, even backing up is saying no to me. **** external being a douche.
I dont mind erasing the hard drive but surely this must be doable without deleting the secondary partition back t a single volume, and re partitioning into 2 volumes again.

The serial number would also be on the box if you still have that.

When I try to update my iTunes, it tells me that I have the latest version, but I only have 10.6.3 - how can I override this?
I'm sorry but your post seems vague as to exactly what version of what you are running, therefore, it comes as a surprise that you mention that "it" won't let you update iTunes. Did you run Software Update or try updating from within iTunes?
If you are running a Mac under Mac OS X 10.6.3, then if you should be able to update that by using System Update to version 10.6.8 - first and foremost.
Then, assuming you can run Mac OS X 10.6.8; I would think that you can (secondarily) update iTunes to Version 10.7 or Ver. 11.0.5.; IMHO 10.7 is better as it has Coverflow. Nonetheless...

Macbook Pro crashes and needs reboot 10.8.1
Hi all,
Having an odd issue. Since upgrading to OS X 10.8 and now running 10.8.1 my MacBook Pro crashes intermitently. The operating system becomes unresponsive and the only thing I can do is move the mouse and nothing else. The only solution is to hold the power button down.
I did have a few kernal panics before upgrading to 10.8.1. Not had one for a while now.
I have run an Apple Hardware Test and I have run a Memtest and everything has reported no issues.
I have looked at the Console logs but can't see anything obvious (not really sure what to look for). Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be?

Acrobat X Pro crashed and deleted the file
I am using Acrobat X Pro 10.1.3 in OS X 10.1.1.
I was working on a file. Acrobat crashed without warning and reopened. It did not reopen the file. I looked in the Open a Recent File dialog box and in the Recently Opened menu, and my file was not there. I then looked for the file in the OS X Finder, and it appeared there as a blank file, but then--when I highlighted it--the file icon disappeared. I restarted Acrobat, and THIS time the file appeared in the dialog box and the Recently Opened menu, but when I selected it, I got a File Not Found message.
I also did a search on the entire Mac for my file and it is absolutely gone.
The problem isn't just this file--it's that it could happen to any file I am working on. The only work-around I have for now is to break large files into smaller parts by extracting the pages, so that if I lose a file, the damage is not as bad. But that's ridiculous.
This file had been saved. Repeatedly. Didn't make any difference. Does anyone have any ideas?I'm not sure the size is right, but this is the sort of thing many people see, so don't be concerned.
One cause of much bigger size than expected is that, as well as the programs themselves, there are also the information used to install and update. -

i Burned the ISO to a DVD and installed it like that, then after the installation i installed all the latest drivers that i downloaded before the HDD partition. the windows partion is 50 GB which seems subsantial as i will only be using it for school programs that arent for mac. (this is off topic but some how without installing anything i have only 20GB of the windows partion left. dont know how this happend). this is all on my early 2011 Macbook pro 13" everything in it is stock, it came shipped with 4gb of RAM and a great Intel I5 dual core 2.3 GHZ with the Intell HD 3000 348MB video.Hi
32-bit Windows has an address space of 4GB. Part of that is used by system BIOSes and graphics memory. With my Mac Book which has a 1Gb graphics card you only get about 2.6-2.8GB of the RAM which would be addressable and usable.

How do I delete the files on my hard drive but keep all the applications?
I have an old MacBook Pro. By old, I mean abiut three or four years. I recently upgraded to Lion, but I have so many files that my system is forever showing thte rainbow spinner. I copied everything to an external hard drive, and would like to erase everything but my applications. Is there an easy way to do this?
Ok....Here we go.....
First open disk utility - then hit verify your disk.
Once that's done, verify your disk permissions - hit repair disk permissions if there are errors.
Once that's all done, restart your macbook.
Now you've done all those, delete all the files you've copied over to your backup/external drive.
If you've made folders for them, you can safely delete them. Only do this if you've made copies of those files in your external drive.
most of those files will probably in your document/movies/pictures folder. If you've copied them over to your external then you can delete them. Be sure you have copies before you delete them.
also delete anything in your download folder.
once you've done those, go to the appstore and download ccleaner. it is a small yet effective hard drive cleaner. no advance settings to mess around with. it will just delete your cache files and old log files.

PS - to delete some of them you must move your mouse over it, tap once then keep your finger in the shift button then use your arrow keys to highlight them. once you've highlighed those files, right click on them then move to trash. -

What is making my macbook pro crash and causing the screen to become distorted?
I've posted before and thought my problem was solved. Thanks to the folks who helped. I'm still having the problem with certain programs causing my screen to split in two and become distorted. Sometimes I'm able to force quite and others I'm not. Just a few days ago, I tried to run iPhoto. The screen did the crazy distorted thing and the computer crashed. The screen locked up and I had to hard boot it. Today, I tried to run iPhoto again. This time I got the error message from Apple and the computer rebooted. This was the error message I received:

The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test. -
My computer crashed when firefox was updating and now when i try to open it i get the error " This application has failed to start because nss3.dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix this problem.". What exactly you mean by, it does not works on Mobile devices ? The site does not opens at all ? If there is no rendition defined for Phone or Tablet then by default site will show desktop version.
In order to create Phone/tablet device you would need to create those where only structure and fills will be copied , rest for page contents you would need to design separately for all layouts.

You shouldn't need any application except what you already have: iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto....

Some formats are not readable by the above; you can use something like MPEG Streamclip to convert the footage or Quicktime Pro (as mentioned in one of the articles). -

If you subscribed to iTunes match the songs are kept in icloud. If you didn't but you did save the actual iTunes library folder which should include the music, video, etc. you should be able to just drag this file back to your machine in the same place and when you open iTunes it will give you a chance to identify the iTunes library folder.
You can test this to find out if you saved the media files or not and don't need to attach your nano to do it.
You are correct that once you connect the nano it will clear the existing files from it and sync it with the new iTunes library.
If you don't have the media files i'm not sure if/how to get them back on a windows ipod. I have everything backed up regularly because of the horror stories I have seen & heard.
