My Macbook Pro will recognize my network but will not connect to the internet

My macbook will not connect to the internet at home.  It works fine on other networks, but at home it will recognize my network name but says it will not be able to connect to the internet.  This issue just sort of came up randomly.  I have shut the router off (I use Verizon Vios) and reset it and that doesn't work.  The little Wifi status at the top of the screen just has an exclamation point over it.  I haven't changed any of the default network settings.  It just stopped working.  When I take it to work and use their network or free wifi available at stores etc...it connects just fine.  A few weeks ago upgraded my operating system to Mavericks, but it has worked up until this morning.

Do this. Go to Apple menu / System Preferences / Network.
In the left column, click Wi-Fi. Next click Assist me, then Assistant. Follow the on screen instructions.

  • My Apple Tv is connecting to the Wifi network but is not connect to the internet.  So when I look for it on my Airplay it doesn't come up.  I have 3 other ones already working on the network and they are all fine.

My apple TV is finding and connecting to the Wifi network but then says it is not connected to the internet and then I cannot find it on the iPad through airplay.  I don't want it connected to the internet (as in www.) because for the use I have I only need to use the Apple tvs locally in a sports hall as scoreboards.  I have 3 others working on the same router and they are working fine (as of yesterday)
On my screen I see (obviously not written like this)
    network connect- yes
    signal strength- fine
    Ip address- fine
    DCN- fine
    Activation- Failed
This is the only negative I can find and the statement that the Apple TV has connected to the wifi but is not connected to the internet.
Where has it gone wrong for me. Please help

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

  • Can connect to my house network, but can't connect to the Internet (other computers can)

    Hello,
I'm experiencing a strange problem. Since I started my Mac Pro (cold start) some hours ago, I've lost the hability to connect to the Internet (Safari and Mail say I'm not connected). However, I can connect to 192.168.2.1 (my router) and see its webpage (it says it's connected to the Internet). If I use another computer on the same network, it can also connect to the Internet.
Weirder, if I go back to my Mac Pro with "no internet" and launch Parallels Desktop, then I can use WinXP to browse the Internet; I'm writing this post on my WinXP virtual machine.
This leads me to think there's a problem with how my Mac OS handles the networking. I have checked the Console, but the only related string I found is this:
    16.04.13 22:03:25
    kernel
    SIOCPROTOATTACH_IN6: en2 error=17
As expected, Google doesn't reveal anything about that (and I'm connected with the first ethernet port). I've tried to restart my Mac, but the problem persists (exact same symptoms).
Could it be a DNS cache issue?
I don't see, other than a DNS problem, why I can't connect to the Internet with my Mac OS while I can on my virtual machines. If it was a driver problem, I wouldn't be able to connect to my router. If it's a DNS issue, where are the DNS caches located in order to clear them (I'd trash the folder)?
I could also reinstall the OS (waste of time, btw), but I'd really like to understand the problem, not just clear it and forget about it.
Or better than guesses, anyone already experienced this?
    Any help welcome.

If it's a DNS issue, where are the DNS caches located in order to clear them (I'd trash the folder)
No DNS caches, it looks up the alphabetic and then uses the numberic from then on.
    http://17.149.160.49
is Apple, Inc main US web site. It that works, and the alphabetic does not, you have a DNS probelm.

  • TS1398 my ipad is connected to my wifi network but won,t connect to the internet, i have tried resetting network settings but it still won't work.

my i pad is connected to my wifi network bt won't connect to the internet I have tried resetting network connections. it will connect to the internet from my phone hot spot

Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power to it for 30 seconds.

  • Appletv recognizes my wireless network but won't connect to the internet. can't restore to factory settings

appletv won't connect to the internet, but recognizes my wireless network. ip address starts with 169.. somethings not right. never had a problem with appletv and home sharing until the update that required a change in my apple id

An IP address starting with 169 indicates you are not properly connected to your network. Try restarting your router and try to connect again. if the problem persists you may be suffering from interference.

  • Connected to network but unable to connect to the internet wirelessly

I recently installed a new hard drive in my dell inspirion e1405 laptop and I can no longer connect to the internet wirelessly using the WRT54G v2. When I use ethernet it works. It says I am connected to the network. I punched in the WEP key and I am connected. I power cycled my cable modem, laptop and router several times. I followed these linksys suggestions:
Checking the IP Address of the PC
Checking the Wireless Settings on a Linksys Router
    Disabling Computer's Firewall
    Disabling Proxy Settings
    Pinging the Router
    Pinging the Internet
and it still isn't working. I downloaded the firmware and that did not work. I am using XP MCE 2005. I updated the driver for my dell wireless card several times and also deleted it from the device manager and rebooted. Still nothing.
    Anyone have an idea?

    Well, hope this might help
make sure you only get IP from the router's DHCP. yes, you must set Obtain IP Address for all network adapter on your notebook (wired and wireless). the basic is, all things will be fine if this IP issue is not around. coz, at behind, they do something more than give / got IP, such as creating routing path automatically. that which will be guaranteed the success of ethernet communication for wired and wireless.
i cannot guess your problem, but you might want to do this.
first, as above said, just Obtain IP Address, make it for both adapter on your notebook
second, wireless security, must talk in same way (SSID, Channel, b/a/g/n) and use same key (WEP or WPA, passphrase/secret key).
third, if anyhow you got connected but still can't go through internet, but, you can ping or access your router, for example, open your router web server to do some change of the configuration, means your packet is stuck on the router and cannot deliver further to internet and it is gateway issue. no else.
well, three shots shall go but you might need more bullets coz this is called troubleshoot
let's see how it will go.
    wish you luck

  • AE detects my wireless network but can't connect to the Internet

I have a DELL PC with a Linksys WRT54G router. I recently had an Airport Express installed into my Mac Mini so that I could access the Internet wireless. Although Airport Express detected my existing wireless network, I am having problems connecting to the Internet. I read several of the helpful articles in this discussion forum and using the information I learned I was able to successfully connect. But then I accidentally tampered with the settings on my Mac Mini and now for the life of me I don't recall what I did to get back onto the Internet?
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    1. unplug the DSL
    Modem and router
    2. plug the router back in and wait for the display
    lights to indicate ready.
    3. plug in the dsl modem and wait for it to display
    ready.
    4. turn on the computer that is hardwired to the dsl
    modem and router
    5. then try to get online thru my Mac OS.
Is this correct? Or should I do something else?
Perhaps disconnect everything including the computer
    and attached ethernet cables?
Close, but you need to reverse the power-on order
that you described for the modem and router, as
    follows:
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL modem, Internet Router, &
computer(s). (If possible, leave the modem off
    overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the Internet Router; Wait at least 5
    minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
You don't need to disconnect any of the cables.
Thanks so much for your help. Everything you suggested was right on. I am not running both my desktop PC and MAC wirelessly.

  • Rebooted my WRT160N, now my laptop connects to my network but won't connect to the internet

I forgot my original network password so I rebooted my wirless router, now my computer reconizes my home's wireless network and connects to it (accepted the new password and everything), but when I open my browser it can't connect to the internet. My internet connection still works when I plug my laptop directly into my cable modem, and my laptop says I'm connected to my wireless network, so I don't know what the problem is here.
I've been tearing my hair out for the last few hours trying to figure out a way to fix this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

  • Can connect to LAN wirelessly but can not connect to the internet.

    The problem:
I can connect to the wireless router and modem router wireless and can browse the router setting web pages etc without issue. However i can not browse the internet, send or receive mail etc.
    The setup:
A Belkin/iinet modem connects to the internet (ip 10.1.1.1), a DLink 565 then broadcasts the signal wirelessly (ip 10.1.1.100).
    What i have tried:
    Trusty old powercycle
I know the internet is working via the wifi as my ipod touch has full internet functionality through my wifi.
I have tried using ip address instead of urls to browse the web to no luck.
    I have tried deleting Libary\Preferences\SystemConfiguration\preferences.plist
I have tried reseting the DHCP lease.
The only other thing i know works (eventually) is if i constantly change locations back and forth and turn airport on and off repeatedly, eventually i will get on the wifi but that can take upwards of an hour.
The macbook also works fine via ethernet connected to the wireless router.

    Check these details:
    1. Right click your wireless connection
    2. Select STATUS
    3. Select the SUPPORT tab
    4. Select the DETAILS button
You should see a page with all sorts of network details.
Make sure that you see the following:
    1. You have an assigned IP address from your router
    2. You have a default gateway address -- typically the IP address of your router.
    3. A primary and alternate DNS server address (the router gets
these from your ISP and passes them along during DHCP connect
    processing.)
I found that step #3 did not happen reliably. Your mileage may vary. I set DNS server values into my router, based on what I got from my ISP, so that the connect-time data handoff was not required. A large part of my troubles went away.

  • How to connect HP Officejet Pro 8610 to a Laptop that's not connect to the internet

Just bought the HP Officejet Pro 8610 all-in-one for the local Historical Society. Neither the laptop nor the printer will be connected to the Internet. The printer will only be used for printing reports, scanning images, etc.
I have just removed the instruction manual to familiarize myself with the connecting procedure but I notice there are several references that require internet access.
Is there a work-around that allows me to install/connect the printer without requiring access to the internet?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi,
How many computer will be using the printer ? If only one the USB (you may have to buy a cable) is the way to go. You can also use wireless direct to print but this is not reliable:

If you have previously set up/configured the FindMyIPod service in the iPod's settings, you might be able to track it that way by going to www.icloud.com and signing in with your Apple ID.  Then click the FindMyiPod icon.  This also requries that the iPod Touch be still powered on, connected to a nearby Wi-Fi network whose location has been correctly entered into Apple's location database) and not have been restored by somebody else who my have located the device.
Otherwise, I'm afraid you are out of luck and will need to look for it as you would anything else you lose. You should report the lost item to the local authorities and change any and all passwords to any accounts you may have set up or accessed with the device. Apple can do nothing to help.

  • New MBPro...airport connection established but can not connect to the internet...help! suggestions?

Hi all, trying to set up my MBPro...seems to be connecting to my AirPort Base Station w/out any troubles...but when I try to get online I'm getting a "can't connect to the Internet" message. I checked my network settings, restarted multiple times, etc. No luck. Seems to be a problem with the IP address (I think)...but not sure how to resolve it. I have an iMac and iPhone in the house that are able to connect and get online w/out issues. Any thoughts? TY!!

Are you asking the make/model of the computer or the AX base station?
Neither, I was interested in the make/model of the cable modem.
Our ethernet connection was fried in an electrical storm so we had to go wireless.
Electrical storms are never a good thing when it comes to electronics. What was/is your current network configuration? Is it something like the following?
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > AX > (wireless) > wireless devices
Is there another router, other than the AX, in the configuration? ... or an Ethernet switch? I'm just trying to understand your network to best advise you on how to configure the AX.

The Find my ipod is notable to lock or locate because is offline....HELP PLEASE I will take any advice... It was stolen in a McDonalds that had wireless but was not connected...

I'm an plug and play, aka, intuative Apple OS "cooler", or a guy that has been most likely to "tilt" even the most bug free Apple software and maybe even hardware, and unqualified to give advice, except for the fact that I had my iPad and then my iPhone boosted a year ago. May I ask, did you ever log in to your app; "Find my iPhone" and go through the registration process? If you did, you would have had to have registered it into "mobileme" or the ancestor of mm, the name escapes me, or you would have had to "iCloud it", the implications of which, I'm just barely scratching the surface (<--ADHD) but that's the kind of thing I would have, and did do, even though I didn't have a clue, what it was for, or understand how to incorperate it into my resources at the time, I'm just a "register here" factory, that registers first and askes questions later. If you did this, I suspect you may have a reason to hope a a GPS kite string that millions of theft targets like us are longing to see, return your device, for Christ Sakes! i do know that, if you did you, can access the signal blip, location from any smart device, with internet access and your log in/password, that you will need to remember, track down, or if all else fails, ask Support to assist, by in my case jogging my memory, until it came to my low watt brain, the log in id, I had used.
Boy what a lot of blather, hope it was helpful, somehow, my point was that Cloud is the modern MobileMe, and it's prediscessor. Mozl Tov!

  • Can see the wifi network but can't connect to the internet

    Hi all!
I've begun using a new ISP a few days ago, and while my desktop pc works just fine (ethernet), I seemed not to be able to connect to internet with my mac (either ethernet or wifi) even if I could see the wireless network. I thought it was an issue with the ISP and not with my mac, until last night when I tested it at a friend's house and bling..I couldn't connect there either!
All seetings seem fine both for ethernet and airport. Today I've verified and repaired disk and permissions. I've also created a location specifically for this network (while I've always used automatic before) since the ISP suggested to do so.
I've been able to use the internet, both wifi and ethernet, until literally two days ago on all sorts of different wifi networks.
    Any ideas folks?
    Thanks,
    D

Hi! It's been a while but here's the latest update on the case.
(And yeah,I've been struggling until today to find a solution...Danny's personal advice: don't move to Italy if you don't wanna get lost in a Customer Service nightmare...)
Anyhow, it turned out to be as simple as this:
    1) Create a location dedicated to the home network.
    2) Insert PPPoE user name and password given by ISP.
    3) Connect.
    4) Browse wirelessly.
...I feel a little dumb overlooking this option....but, I still have some doubts reg the procedure.
Why did I have to create a dedicated location?
Why do I have to use PPPoE rather than DHCP?
    Thanks mate,
    D

  • Why does my airport base station show all green lights but doesn't connect to the internet?

I have an Airport Express Base Station that has been working beautifully up until this morning.  For no apparent reason (changes in ANYTHING), I cannot connect to the internet through it.  Here's the situation:
The light on the airport is solid green.
Aiport Utility shows all is well...the base station shows up, with green light, IP address, etc.
Network Diagnostics shows "your connection to the internet seems to be working correctly."
Connecting the modem directly to the computer via ethernet cable works fine...internet humming right along.
Connecting the modem to the base station doesn't work, even though all green lights and "all systems go" diagnostics.
Wireless access via iPhone and iPad not working, either, so definitely not computer-based issue.
No changes have been made to anything.  I'm running 10.6.8 on a 2007 MacBook Pro.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for responding.
Does that IP address start with 169, or something else?
The IP address starts with 10.0...
Does this mean that the iPhone and iPad can connect to the wireless network....but not get to the Internet?.....or.....does this mean that the iPhone and iPad cannot connect to the wireless network at all?
They can see and connect to the wireless network, but aren't connecting to the internet, just like my computer.  Sorry for not being clear about that.
Can you look on the side of the AirPort Express to locate the model number?  Hard to see, you may need a magnifying glass. Starts with an "A" followed by four numbers, as in A1264, or A1084, for example.
The model number on the Airport is A1392.
Any insights based on this info?  Thanks for your help.
    Nancy
