Macbook won't update anything, from the mac applications to firefox .
Can someone help me ?

Make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
The startup disk may need repairing.

  • My apps won't update anymore

My applications won't be updated anymore on my iPad mini. The downloading never starts. I have now 5 apps blocked. The account is ok and valid and the payment instrument behind it has been validated.
    I have enough space in memory :  8GB .  I am running IOS 6.1.3  (10B329)
My other mobile device linked to it works fine under the same IOS version
Where do I need to look?

Lets get to the "But" part first......
If you downloaded the updated app in iTunes and then sync that app, that should work. Aren't you getting the option to update in iTunes on your computer? If you update there, then you can delete the stalled download and then sync the newest updated version of the app.
I think that resolving the iPad stalled downloads would be the ideal situation and you/we should strive to do that. I have posted this list of suggestions more than a few times on the iPad forum and some of those have worked for other users in the past.
Try a few of these and see what results you get. This is just a copy and paste and I'm not going to edit any of the suggestions that you may have already tried. Just skip over them if you don't want to try them again.
    1. Tap the "waiting" icon on the screen and see if you can pause it. If it does pause, then tap it again and see if it will resume. If that works, repeat the same steps for each "waiting" icon.
    2. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
    4. If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
    5. You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again. You can also try deleting the apps in Settings>General>Usage>Storage. Let all of the apps load and then see if you delete the ones that have stalled.
    6. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.

Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)

  • My MacBook won't boot anymore. What can I do?

    Hi,
yesterday I upgraded to Mountain Lion. After the installation, my MacBook booted and everything seemed fine. I started using Mountain Lion. Then I shut my MacBook down and I won't boot up anymore today. What can I do?
    Additional Information:
    MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011
Upgraded HDD to SSD (OCZ Petrol 256GB)

What did you do to fix it?

  • Macbook won't update past 10.5.5

I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8, (Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) I cannot get it to update past 10.5.5. When I go to update it, it says "Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer at this time." However, my itunes it on 10.6.3 which my computer says is the current version?? But itunes is on 11.3.... Please help! I want to not only update my computer but update my iTunes as well. My iphone will not sync with my Macbook or iTunes.

I think they told us everything except the Mac model:
(Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
That's sufficient to know they can upgrade to 10.7.5.
It could be MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro.
Also depending on the age it may or may not be able to upgrade to 10.8 or later.
Regardless, this tip should help determine if to go to 10.6.8, 10.7.5, or 10.8 or later:
Upgrading to 10.7 and above, don't forget Rosetta!

  • My macbook won't update. It says that it's updating, restarts, but doesn't actually install any updates. Help?

I've tried several times to update my Macbook software, but each time it says it will begin the process it restarts, and doesn't do anything. This is really frustrating, because a lot of the programs I want to use require new updates. Please help!
My macbook is right around 2 years old.

    Model A1286
    OS X 10.6.8
I haven't been able to install any updates at all since I first got the Macbook. It hasn't caused much of an issue until now- most websites at this points require updated versions of several plug-ins.
Here's the list that the software update gives:
         Safari ver 5.1.7
Macbook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7
         Apple Software Installer Update 1.0
         Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.0
Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 12
         Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3
         iPhoto Update 9.2.3
Macbook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7
         GarageBand Update 6.0.5
         iTunes 11.0.1
         Security Update 2012-004 1.0
         Airport Utility 5.6.1

  • Sudden hang & Macbook won't boot anymore

Hi, as my info reports i own a 2010 MacBook Pro 13" with Mac OS X 10.6.6; today i ran some updates (itunes, safari and a third i can't remember), everything went nice and the mac was powered by plug.
Just after the reboot everything worked nicely and i used it for an hour or so; when i came back to my mac two hours later, i tried to start Skype but it sid "Unable to create a lock file"... i then tried to reboot or shut it down, but it didn't respond; i tried to open Safari, and it then completely hanged, so i had to shut it down keeping the power button pressed.
At reboot there was as usual the Apple in the middle of the green screen with the swirling pattern, and a gray bar loading REALLY slowly (it took 10 minutes); when the bar ended, the mac shat down.
I powered it up again and there was the bar again, this time it was a little bit quicker and after 4 minutes or so the bar ended and there was only the usual swirling pattern, but after 20 minutes the macbook did not move from the gray screen.
Now if i try to start it, it just hangs on the gray screen with Apple and swirling circle.
I tried to clean the NVRAM, to boot in Safe Mode (after 20 minutes nothing happens so i gave up), i booted in Verbose Mode but it just hangs without saying anything useful; it does boot in Single User Mode, but fsck says the file system is OK.
I started from the Install CD and in Disk Utility Repair Permissions is grayed out, and it says "Owners Enabled: NO" below; Verify and Repair Disk just say the disk is OK.
    I'm glad for any help!

I had to do first an Archive and Install, this fixed the boot.
Then i saved all my data and did a complete format.
Now everything is working fine and i lost really little.
However, the problem was indeed the deactivation of Permissions on my boot disk.
Is there any other way to fix this in the event this could happen again? Thanks!

  • MacBook won't update to OSX 10.8.3

Have tried to run the software update several times, with a restart each time to install update, and no results.  10.8.2 is the current OS software.

    Try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Now download and install OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.3 (Combo).

  • My Yahoo email won't update anymore on my iPhone 6

I have an iPhone 6 using IOS 8.3 and about a week ago it stopped updating my yahoo email account.  It worked just fine for many years.  I didn't update anything before it happened.  I have deleted it off my phone and added it back on several times and still nothing.  I've changed my yahoo password and nothing.  It just says "Updated on 4/3/15" and that it "Cannot Get Mail, The connection to the server failed".  I have no problem accessing the same yahoo account from my iPad, my Mac, my work PC.

    Hi fromnapa,
It may help to force close all open apps and reset your iPhone.
Force an app to close in iOS
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5137
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1430
If you're still unable to retrieve your recent email, the next step would be to reinstall iOS on your device by placing it in Recovery Mode, then choosing Update in iTunes.
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on

  • I have a 3G iPod touch and it won't update anymore and the apps I need needs the update what should I do ?

Have a 3G iPod touch and I have apps I need but needs a new update and I can't go any further updates. Wondering what I can do?

A 3rd gen iPod touch can run up to iOS 5.1.1.  If the apps you need require a later version of iOS, you will need a newer iPod touch.
The 4th gen model, which is still available on Apple Store's refurb ("Special Deals") page can run up to iOS 6.1.3.  The current 5th gen model can run the current iOS 7.x.

  • MacBook won't  update to iphoto 9.2 from iPhoto 9.1.1

How can update my iphoto 9.1.1 to 9.2?

    1. Apple aren't here. You're not talking to Apple when you post here and they don't read here.
    2. You need to contact App Store support. They are the only people who can help with this.

  • My USB external hard disk won't work anymore after I updated to 10.4.10

As I said in title since it's quite urgent to me. ALL of my files is in my external hard drive. It's format as FAT or FAT32 I can't remember since I use it between mac and PC. More than that IT IS WORKING FINE UNDER PC. Before updating to Mac 10.4.10 I used my hard disk fine till I updated to this version. I plug in my usb port and after a hours it still won't be detected. I can find my hard disk in finder or desktop. I have tried plug my hard disk to other MacBook or Mac Pro but still won't work anymore. However it's working fine under PC or when I started my MacBKPRO as WindowsXP under bootcamp, my hard disk is working fine, too.
I have search this forum and seems someone have got the same problem as I face. I don't know what to do...and I feel so disappointed to Mac.

As Mac OS X has no known viruses in the wild, that leaves you with one of three possibilities.
    1. When connected to the Windows machine, a virus has written over a critical boot block area which allows the drive to become crossplatform. Get the latest Windows virus detection software and make sure the drive is clean of Windows viruses.
    2. The firmware that allows it to communicate driverless has become corrupted on the drive case. Replacing the drive case itself will eliminate that problem, as suggested earlier.
    3. The directory damage is just enough that the boot block itself is damaged. Backup any critical data from the drive onto the Windows machine first, and run Alsoft Disk Warrior 4.0 to repair the directory and see if that works.
The fact that Mac OS X 10.3.9 won't read it basically eliminates this as a 10.4.10 problem. Only a boot block or firmware issue like this could make a drive not readable on one platform, but readable on another.
P.S. please note the nomenclature of Mac, versus MAC on this user tip, as it appears you haven't learned it:

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.
You also said: "It also will not let me download any music onto it." What happens when you try to sync music to the iPod?
