  • Is it normal with higher temperature when plug in with power adapter?

Hey guys, I am wondering if is normal that the computer is much more hotter when running with the power plug in, because the temperature is much more lower when running with battery.

I have the same issue exactly, i downloaded istat pro widget as it monitors the temperature and it tell you what is the temperature but now i am trying to find what is the normal temperate for mac book pro is i know when it is getting hot

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.
If it will help anyone else reading this thread, C2G (née Cables to Go) has some interesting ideas for still getting external video out of this computer:
    -USB-to-VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/30545
-Convert s-video or composite video signals to high resolution VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/40971
The price range is $75-$85, which doesn't make horse sense to me for such an old computer -- which has a lot of life in it anyway, because its own 15" monitor is not chopped liver.

  • Intermittent audio buzz when recording with power adapter

While running my 13" Unibody MacBook Pro on the power adapter, I get an regularly pulsing buzz that affects audio recorded in through my Griffin iMic. There's a sample of the buzzing I recorded at http://drp.ly/lmd8R - it starts halfway through it. The buzzing starts a few seconds after plugging in the power adapter and stops a few seconds after plugging it in. The power adapter is grounded and the cord is separated from the audio cords. Any help would be appreciated.

Are the Mac and all of the connected devices plugged into the same grounded UPS or outlet strip?
When I had a similar problem I ended up having a very serious electrical wiring problem in my house–a poor earth-neutral bond in my case. You may want to have a professional electrician check things out.

  • Powerbook G4 won't charge battery or run with power adapter plugged in.

My Titanium Powerbook G4 will not charge the battery or run with the power adapter plugged in. When plugged in the power adapter doesn't change to amber showing its charging. Instead it has a green light that flashes off and on. I thought it was a defective power adapter but when its plugged in to another powerbook its seems to be working properly. I reset the PMU but that didn't help. I have been unable to find anything that would tell me what a flashing green means.
    Powerbook Titanium G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi, Marshall. With no power being supplied to the Mac for several months, not only has your main battery gone flat (and may never again be able to take a charge), but your internal backup battery has also gone flat. A Tibook with a dead backup battery generally will not start up at all, even with AC power connected.
Try this: remove the main battery and leave the AC power adapter connected overnight in an attempt to recharge the backup battery. If the Powerbook won't start in the morning under AC power, the backup battery is shot, has lost the ability to be charged, and must be replaced.
If the PB starts up in the morning on AC power, set the date and time correctly, shut the computer down, insert the main battery, and allow 48 hours with AC power connected in an attempt to charge the main battery. Then disconnect the AC adapter and try to start up under battery power. If that doesn't work, and no lights or only one flashing light appear when you press the power-indicator button on the battery, you'll have to replace the main battery.

  • If I always have my MB Pro plugged into the power adapter. . . .

If I always have my MB Pro plugged into the power adapter, will my battery still wear out as it would if I were depleting and recharging it daily?
I tend to find a power outlet anywhere that I go in order to run my MB Pro on the adapter rather than using battery power. It's a habit that formed while using my 6 year old Powerbook G4 with about 5 minutes of battery life per full charge.
I understand that it shouldn't wear out to the same extent as running the battery down constantly, but is there still a significant effect?
Does the adapter bypass a full battery and power the computer directly?
I feel like an idiot asking this question, but I am really curious.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Various yes and no takes on it:

  • When should I use the power adapter?

I just installed a wireless router. Should I use the power adapter when I'm not going to use the Macbook for several hours? Does the Macbook drain the battery when it is shut down or sleeping?

When should I use the power adapter?
Whenever you are near a power outlet. Not 100% of the time, of course (you have to flex the battery sometimes) but as often as possible.
Should I use the power adapter when I'm not going to use the Macbook for several hours?
If you are near an outlet, yes.
Does the Macbook drain the battery when it is shut down or sleeping?
When sleeping, it drains a negligible amount.

  • MBP Retina 15" freezing when plugging thunderbolt display

When I get to work I connect my (in sleep mode) MBP-Retina to the thunderbolt display and *often* the system symply freezes:
    black screen and
    completely unresponsive to input (mouse/keyboard).
Unplugging the thunderbolt plug and opening the laptop display does little to help.
The screen remains black and the only solution is to FORCE SHUTDOWN the system.
Note also I have had this problem on two different MacBook Pro Retina laptops and
two thunderbolt 27" display with brand new installs of the OS.
Anybody else having this problem? For a >5k$ setup this is REALLY EMBARASSING...

Hi, I am having the same problem.
I have a Mac Book Pro 15' with retina display.
The Thunderbolt Display has an ethernet cord, two drives (one usb and one firewire), and a logitech unifying wireless adapter connected.
This happens so often that I am now turning off/on my MBP before (un)plugging it into the monitor

  • MBP retina slow Safari when connected to Buffalo

    Hi.
I am new to Mac world. I recenlty purchased MBP retina. As soon as I brought to home I connected to WIFI (broadcasted by Buffalo WZR-HP-G450H) and noticed very slow Safari despite uncompromized internet connection. It is always written Sending request at bottom left corner of the Chrome window (same in Safari).
I checked on Windows machine, ipad and and experienced instantanous page loading. I switched back to old TP-Link and got very fast page loading in Safari and Chrome as well. It is very frustrating because I need Buffalo for transfering HD videos wireleslly to my TV and cant use the old TP-link router.
So, could you tell me what is the problem that MBP retina' is very slow downloading pages on Buffalo but quick on old router? Am I destined to have slow brosing speed on Retina?
    Thanks for your help.

This isn't customer support - this is a user-to-user forum. You can contact Apple's customer support by calling the AppleCare phone number: find your country here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57.
I don't know anything about Buffalo routers - but it sounds as if the router is the problem, since your 'old' router works well.

  • How do I stop my iphone (4) from beeping when I plug it into power?  It's both annoying and disturbing to others when I do it late at night.

Everytime I plug my iphone into power or if power goes and returns, it beeps loudly.  I can't find anyway to reduce the volume or disable the beep.  Searching previous threads suggests Apple finally addressed this issue (at least partially) with iPad, but nothing for iPhone.  I've disturbed people at night when I plug it in, so I'm really interested in getting this beep under control.  Any suggestions?

    Turn on the mute switch

  • Have a G3 pismo, works great, but when I plug in the power cord, the light won't come on to indicate its charging. It is charging, and the battery is good, its just that the light won't come on. Could it be something with the backup battery?

I have a G3 bronze keyboard that works, with a good battery, but when the power supply is plugged in, the charging light on the back of the laptop
will not come on. It is charging however, and have two different apple power adapters and both will charge the main battery, it's just that the light won't come on.
Did a reset of the pmu, but no changes. The date stays current, but wondering if the backup battery could be getting weak and affecting it , or is something else going on?

The power connector in the G3 PowerBook is a weak link.  Removed, it looks like this:
    [image from http://microdocusa.com/specials.html ]
The connector probably hasn't failed, but the solder joints where "legs" on  the connector  attached to the logic/power board are under a lot of stress after 10 years of use. Little bumps and tugs on the power cord eventually degrade the connection. You can check for looseness easily---see if the connector feels loose when you GENTLY wiggle it with a fingertip. It should have zero play if it's still firmly attached. You can also plug in the power adaptor and see if slight movements if the plug make the light turn on. Pretty diagnostic of a loose connector.
    The date stays current,
Make sure you are doing this check correctly. If you have an always-on internet connection, the date/time are fed froma  network time server and will always read properly unless you test with the internet connect turned off or disconnected.
