My message app crashes on my ipad 2
Two days ago my message app on my ipad 2 started to crash mid message. I tried restarting the ipad by holding down the home and power buttons. That did not correct the problem. This morning I updated to iOS 7.0.4. This also did not correct the problem. I deleted all the feeds I had going with people. Then started a new feed with one of the people. It still crashes. Also, I am unable to delete specific messages in the feed like I use to be able to do. Is there anything else I can try other than completely resetting the ipad? Thanks!
The feature to delete specific messages stopped working today as far as I know. I was not working before I did the iOS update today. I did all that you suggested above. So far the app has not crashed. However, I still am not able to delete specific messages by tapping the message and then tapping the more tab. In fact many times when I tap on a specific message, nothing happens.

Safari and the messages app dissapered on my iPad.
Safari and the messages app dissapered on my iPad and I don't know what happened or how to get them back. The restrictions are off and I treys to search for them but they still didn't show up. I need help!
You cannot delete the preinstalled apps. nor can they be downloaded again. They have to be on the iPad.
How did you search for them? Did you swipe down from the middle of the home screen to get to the Spotlight Search field at the top of the screen?
Did you try a reset yet? It's like rebooting your computer and it resets the system.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
My phone app freezes and when i press on contact either it freezes or does nothing. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Also messaging app crashes. ANOTHER NEW PROBLEM: I can't receive calls either.
Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups -
Does any of you using iPhone 4 with iOS 5 installed and have the Message app crash daily? It crashes (not always) at the time I pick up a conversation and start typing Chinese using Pinyin input method. I think there is bug but not sure. I am just wondering how many of you out there having the same device and problem as I do and please feel free to leave a feedback.
Chinese handwriting input (simplified or traditional) crashes all over the places with multiple apps. The respones of displaying the list of selected words after the handwriting input is slower than 4.x but the main problem is that it causes the apps to crash when selecting some specific words, this makes my iPhone4 become useless. Pls fix it quick.
I am using iPhone4 with iOS5 (9A334). -
Messages app crashes upon startup
Since today, the messages app crashes whenever I open the app. I can open texts from notification center when people text me, but the app immediately crashes when I go back to the main messages screen. I have a black 16GB iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3. Rebooting the iPhone and restoring it, and then reloading from backup haven't worked. Help would be much appreciated.
There is a bug in iOS being exploited right now. One of my so called friends sent me the below string too and crashed a couple of my apps.

On some conversations, after hitting "Load Earlier Messages" so many times, my Message App crashes...
Are others experiencing this?
Is this a known bug?
Is there a fix for this?
Is there a way to avoid this or a workaround?
I can't see any corelation between conversations that crash and don't crash, it's almost random - as if some conversations were eventually trying to load a corrupted part of a conversation file and crash while others do not.
Please help! I need to look something up from a few older conversations dating back to June of 2012 and some of the conversations crash the app before I get there...
Thank you!No one else is experiencing this issue?!?

Messages app crashes... safari occasionally - iPad Air
Purchased since day one and since the second update my iPad Air keeps crashing when I use the messages app for iMessages. Even when I try to delete messages it acts unstable. What boggles me is that my safari is ok and I don't see anyone else having the Messages app problem on here.
I know nothing about code and such and only the very basic. Any suggestions? I've rebooted, re-installed (new), closed apps, etc. etc....
Thanks
F
PS I love the Air but the crashes are annoying!Hi there OriolesMagic333,
If I understand correctly your Messages and Settings apps are becoming unresponsive when you have iMessage enabled, and you keep needing to restart and/or reset your iPad. I would quit both of the apps first:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

Mostly I agree with softwater
However I don't think it should be called on launch of the app unless you have the Preferences Open at the Video Section.
Open the Applications/Utilities folder and then launch Activity Monitor.
Check the list for vcencoder (lower case and no icon).
If it is apparently running then highlight it and use the big red Quit button top left.
Try launching FaceTime (it also uses vcencoder which is part of the VideoConference.framework)
Does this launch ?
Does it show you a preview ?
If the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/VideoConference.framework/ folder is not there then you will need to restore.
If it is there we may have to use different methods to access it and reset the app first.
If it is there can you tell us the contents please ?

When I turn iMessage to on in my settings, it works for about a half hour then the messages app freezes up totally. If I try to go to settings to toggle iMessage off, the settings app as soon as I tap the messages tab. If I then reset or restart my iPad as soon I tap on the messages app, it freezes or just crashes as soon as it comes up. Apon resetting it again the iPad allows me to toggle iMessage to off, fixing the freezing issues. I'm not sure how I can prevent this from happening as I would really like to use the app. Any help would be appreciated!
Hi there OriolesMagic333,
If I understand correctly your Messages and Settings apps are becoming unresponsive when you have iMessage enabled, and you keep needing to restart and/or reset your iPad.
Cheers,

Messages app crashes while trying to share photo
Messages app freezes and crashes after trying to share a photo by tapping the camera button... I'd like to add that I've quite literally tried everything to fix this is issue and have searched this entire forum for answers, even called apple 2-3 times and they ran out of ideas as well... I've reset all settings and content, I've wiped my iPhone and started fresh and manually started adding content back onto my device and the photo share option worked!! Unfortunately it only worked for a day then went right back to freezing and crashing without showing any photos to share. I can still share photos thru the photos app but that is such a nuisance to use regularly... Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!! And im not holding my breath that 8.1 will fix anything because 8.0.2 didn't fix squat... Actually 8.0.1 ruined landscape mode in safari for me and I'm not able to select anything on any website while in landscape
Problem is now known by Apple. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303604

Messages app crashes on iPhone 6 plus when trying to send a picture from my library
As soon as I select the camera icon to send a picture in Messages it crashes on my iPhone 6 plus running IOS 8.0.2. It happens every single time. I have restarted the phone several times. I can go to my photo library, choose a photo and send it as a message and that works. I checked the diagnostic information but can't decipher it. Any ideas?
I had the VERY same problem with a iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.0.2. I did a hard reset and a full restore to factory settings and then a restore from a back up- nothing worked. I then read Cal4one's post on turning off the read text function (which I had just turned on days before to try out) and ta-da! all is well! I can now use Messages and when I go to attach a picture, the Photo library comes up quickly (it was not before the chance) and the Message app no longer crashes. Just to be safe, I turned off all reading functions in the Accessibility (settings/general/accessibility/speech) settings.

Hi,
In the Finder use the Go Menu
Hold the ALT key to see the Library option
Select this and then open the Preferences Folder.
Find the file com.apple.IMAgent.com and drag it to the Trash
The in the Applications/Utilities folder open the Activity Monitor and find the app called IMAgent and use th Quit Button and confirm Force Quit.
Try Messages again.

Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.

Is it possible that the size of the message was too large, or one of the recipient's contact information is no longer valid? Did you get any type of error message?
iCloud: Mailbox size and message sending limits
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4863
Limits on Sending Messages
iCloud has several safeguards to ensure that only iCloud members can send messages using the iCloud outgoing mail server. Among these safeguards are reasonable limitations on:
The total number of messages you can send each day (200 messages)
The number of recipients to whom you can send each day (1000 recipients)
The maximum number of recipients per message (100 recipients)
The size of incoming and outgoing messages (20 MB)
