My mini won't turn on

I have had the thing for a few weeks. I never turn it off I always have it on, sleeping, waiting for me to get an idea and come over and use it to record. I have a usb mouse, keyboard usb and midi to usb, and a m-audio firewire interface powered through the firewire, connected into it.
I haven't turned it completely off for like 2 weeks probably. It just sleeps right. Never had a problem. Go to use it today, and it's off, and it won't turn on! called apple and they are sending me to the store, is still under warranty i didnt do anything stupid it did this when i wasnt there. No water or tampering no one was in the room or anything.
So what gives, did leaving it on for a long time burn something out, especially with the stuff plugged in? **** dude!
Andrew

You didn't hurt anything by leaving it on.
Computers generally last longer when they are left on. But, that's an on-going debate.
Every electronic device has a max. number of hours that it will operate. So, naturally that number of hours will be reached faster if it is left on.
But, turning a device on and off causes stress on that device as well (the sudden surge of electricity when it is turned on). Like the light-bulb that blows when you turn it on.
So, either way it will die eventually.
But, it should last for many, many years either way. As the device gets older, it is more likely to fail being turned-on that it is if you leave it on. This is particularly true for hard drives that are many, many years old.
But, in your case, I think that the machine probably just had a defect in it. I would not be concerned at all that your leaving it on caused the problem.
I'm glad to hear that they are taking care of it for you.

  • Mac Mini won't turn over

    Hi folks,
A mac mini in my household won't turn over. It gets to the grey Apple screen with the spinning search circle, but stays that way.
The strange behaviour began after I installed the latest security and safari update via Software Update.
I tried resetting the pram, using the included install disk to check the HD with disc first aid with no results. Will I have to re-install the OS now?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The symptoms you describe and the circumstances in which it occurred are often indicative of a problem with prebinding, and can be caused for example by running the system on other tasks while also applying updates. Prebinding is the process whereby MacOS links executables with their library files, and when it is damaged it can cause the system to become unresponsive or fail.
When you say that you used the install disk to check the HD 'with no results' I assume you mean that it found no problem. Given that you were able to boot the system with that disk, it demonstrates that the system is healthy, so at that point and assuming you did not get any errors when testing with Disk Utility, I would suggest you boot to the install disk again, and select the option to 'archive and install' (an option that is reached by clicking the button for a custom installation). Archive and Install will put a fresh copy of macOS on the drive, but leave your applications and files untouched. Once the new MacOS copy is installed, you can boot as normal and then I would urge you to download the 10.4.11 combo update from the Apple downloads page (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html) and install that, before running Software Update to grab any additional updates required.
Ensure you are not running any applications or performing any other tasks on the system when performing updates - particularly not when you see the system reporting 'Optimizing system' towards the end of an update. This is when the system is actually updating prebinding, and where running anything else can cause problems. This was a known issue and was resolved in MacOS 10.5.x by a different routine for updates.
As always when doing this kind of work, it is strongly advised that you ensure you have a good backup of all your data first.

  • Mini won't turn on

the ipod won't turn on. it won't appear on itunes either. I dont' know what to do. is this because of the cable? i have two usb cables for my two ipods. i switched the cables yesterday.
also I leave the ipod connected to the computer most of the time. does this also have any effect?
    yes or no?

My thought is that you're talking about an iPod nano (totally different product) because the mini never came in a black model or with 8 GB (to the best of my knowledge)...it was only available in 4 and 6 GB models in pink, silver, gold (first gen. only), green and blue.
You'll probably have better luck finding a solution on the iPod nano forum.

  • IPad mini won't turn on

I have an iPad mini that was working yesterday, but when I tried to use it this morning, nothing happens. It was plugged in to charge last and this morning, it won't turn on. I tried plugging it in to a power source, a Mac mini, and a Win7 laptop and nothing comes it, it won't mount in iTunes at all. I tried allthe cables with my iPad(4th gen), and the cables work fine. I tried a reset by holding down the home and power buttons for 10 seconds and nothing. I can't tell if the battery is completely dead or maybe the backscreen doesn't work anymore. I don't know what else to try, or else I'll take it to the local authorized apple specialist since its still under warranty.

This in Apple's kb article that describes the steps to take if your iDevice does not respond or will not turn on.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on - Support - Apple
The very last part of the article will be what applies in your situation - the part that talks about restoring the iOS software. Have a look and then give that a try. If that fails, head off to your Apple Specialist and ask them to take a look.

  • TS3274 My iPad mini won't turn on please help

    Please help

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • My iPod mini won't turn on

I tried everything it said to do in the manual, but it still won't turn on. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Are you sure you're resetting properly?
Sometimes people find it easier to hold the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons at the same time if they set the iPod on a flat surface. Make sure you hold them for 6 - 10 seconds until the Apple logo pops up. It may take several attempts and is best performed while connected to power.
    Cheers!

  • My ipad mini won't turn on - what can I do?

Charged my ipad mini overnight and it wont turn on now.  What can I do?

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets it to boot up ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Mini won't turn on, wheel won't work

I'm sorry if something like this has already been posted, but I haven't come across anything like this yet... and I'm sorry this post is so long...
I've had my iPod mini for around 6 months now without any problems, and within the past couple of weeks I've started having trouble with it. The battery had been drained, and so I hooked it up to my computer to charge and update, however, when I disconnected it the iPod refused to turn on. I tried the first four of the 5 R's, and then left it.
This past weekend I decided to charge it again and see if the problem had fixed itself, and when I borrowed my friend's wall charger the iPod magically came back to life, everything was working (though when it was on the wall charger the click wheel was working even when the hold button was on, though I'm not sure if it was supposed to do that or not). So I charged it overnight, and then the next day, when I went to use the iPod, the same problems were happening - it refused to turn on, and when I did finally get it to turn on the wheel would not work. And when I tried to connect it to another wall charger today, it would do nothing (so hopefully it has nothing to do with my computer).
I have all updated software, and I have tried the five R's - actually, when I tried to restore the iPod an error message appeared on my computer saying there was an "iPod manager internal error."
The computer DOES, however, recognise the iPod when I hook it up and says it's updating or charging, though the iPod screen does not turn on, or, when it actually is on, continues to flash "Do not disconnect" well after it has finished updating or charging and I have selected to disconnect it.
Today I took it into an Apple Centre, and the clerk simply told me to send it back to Apple - so I thought I'd try here first.
    Please help!

  • Mac Mini won't turn on

I tried to network my G3 ibook and my G4 mini by plugging in a firewire-to-usb cable between the two computers. They were both on at the time. The mini promptly shut down and will not turn on. The ibook is fine. What to do?
    I am fearing the worse.

  • Mac Mini won't turn on propperly

I will explain in as much detail as I can what has happened.
I recently bought a Mac Mini from the apple store. it has 2GB of ram and a 1.8 processor (i think cant remember)
Worked brilliantly for a few weeks with only a few minor glitches. I turn it on today and it was acting fine. Then I open safari and after a minute it closes without warning. So I try again and the same happens after about a minute. The third time I tried i immediately went to the mozilla website to download firefox to see if that would fix my issues. The download almost completed (14 seconds remaining!!) but then safari froze and wouldnt respond. I tried the 'force quit' option, but nothing happened so after a few minutes i decided to try a restart.
So the computer turned off, and then would not turn back on. When I press the power button now, the light on the front comes on and i hear unusual noises from inside the machine (sounds like it is trying to read a disk even though there is no disk in there.)
I checked out a few troubleshooting topics on a few different websites, pretty much telling me to try removing all hardware and trying again, and some telling me to try a different power outlet, and some telling me to test it with a different monitor.
I have tried all these things, but i still get the noise from the disk drive, and pretty much nothing else. Neither of my monitors will accept the mini.
Any help would be greatly appreciated right now, as I feel that I have pretty much done everything I can think of. Right now im just glad i backed everything up with time machine because the future is looking grim.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

    Hi geodisicdome-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
That is a bummer about your Mac.
You have a 1 year warranty. It may be time to exercise said warranty and have the unit looked at by an Authorized Apple Service Center.
    Luck-

When I turn on my Mac mini, it shows the apple logo for few second, then it shut off again. I tried unplug power cord for 15 second, then plug it again for 5 second and turn it on. but it didn't work. please help...

Then try safe mode: OS X Yosemite: Start up in safe mode
