My movie playing in any browser

Hi,
I'd like to play movies in any browser (not just on the Mac). Can I just do this in Quick Time using iPhoto or iMovie and dropping into iWeb as usual or do I need to convert to a Flash file inorder to be viewed by PCs etc? If so, how do I drop the Flash file into iWeb?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Susie

I seem to have problems with quicktime too. I have a published site www.shelteredhousinguk.com. It has a small quicktime word scroll with music together with activated cartoon characters on each of the pages .There is advice on the site to download quicktime for Windows if they do not have it. I still have problems some people say that they can see the words scrolling on the quicktime movie but not hear the music. Others say that they cannot open the pages at all. Yet more say that the cartoon characters do not move. I have published the site in the conventional way to iWeb so I cannot see what is wrong. If there are people out there who have a windows machine, as well as a Mac could they please have a look at the webpage on both of them and see what is wrong. Also anybody else who can finger the problem
thanks

  • Videos won't play in any browser

Just recently, videos won't play in any browser...Safari, Firefox. etc. It seems to happen with .wmv files. I reinstalled media player, but still have the problem.
    I get this message.
"Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again"

First, check that Windows Media Player is set as the correct plug in - in Safari, go to help/installed plug ins. There should be a section marked 'Windows Media Player' showing 'application/x-mplayer2' and listing wmv files (amongst others).
Sometimes these arrors are caused by DNS failures. Ensure your system is fully up to date, and enter your ISP's DNS server IP addresses (usually two of them, sometimes three) in the 'DNS servers' box on the TCP page of the Network preference pane.
The DNS server IPs are usually supplied with the ISP's initial set up documentation, or located on the ISP's help page.
The reason it could be a problem is that in many iterations of MacOS X, the system is extremely sensitive to how quickly a DNS search responds. DNS is the process whereby a user-provided URL is converted into the correct IP address for internet lookup, so if the video source is held on a different server and the DNS process doesn't return a valid IP address in time, you would then get an error of the sort you describe.

  • Videos not playing in any browser

I've got a 2.6 Gig Macbook Pro Retina running 10.9.2.
Videos aren't playing in any browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox). On youtube for example, the page will load, but the spinning wheel won't stop.
I've tried restarting, uninstalling/reinstalling Flash, reinstalling browsers, repairing disk permissions, restarting my router/modem, but still nothing.
Strangely, if I click an embedded youtube link, it will still sometimes work.

hello vinay64, this is probably a problem in connection with the recent update of adobe's flash plugin (IE and chrome get supplied with a different variant of the plugin of adobe), please refer to the following article for common solutions: [[Flash 11.3 crashes or does not load in Firefox 13]]

  • Embedded videos won't play on any browser (youtube will, though)

Hi all, I'm at my wits end.  I have a fairly new computer running Windows 7 64 bit OS.   The problem is with non-Youtube embedded videos.  Flash has been playing them only on IE up until today, now it won't work in any browser (including Chrome).  (Youtube seems to work fine, embedded or not)  As an example, when looking at Facebook, any embedded Youtube video plays just fine, but all other videos only give me the black rectangle of doom.  I've just spent three hours following all the instructions here:  I've uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted the registry key in these instructions.   I've disabled ad blocking and turned off my only antivirus program (Microsoft Security Essentials).  I've tried downloading Flash Player using every browser and both 32 and 64 bit versions of the browsers.  Nothing makes the embedded videos play.  The Flash version I have is 11.6.602.171 and the little movie with the ball going by the screen shows fine, and the correct OS is showing.  I'm baffled and out of ideas.  Thanks for any help!

There must be some other people who have encountered this same problem.

  • No flash videos playing in any browser

I am having this issue for over a month or two now, i can't play any videos on any browser, i tried firefox, then IE , then chrome, i re-installed all of them, updated flash, updated real player, downgraded flash , cleared browsing history, disable hardware acceleration, everything that i could do, but didnt get the issue solved, whenever i open a video on youtube or even dailymotion, the browser would start browsing but then everything would stop and i'd see a black screen , and when i right click on the video , instead of the usual drop down menu of flash... i get other menu with options like " inspect element" , "save" etc.  please anyone could help ??? btw i have windows x.p , FF 17.0.1, flash 11.5 updated java, installed real player and updated it too ...,

Thanks for your reply Pat , i followed your post to see if the device drivers needed to be updated, i downloaded the drivers from the SIS site and updated my drivers, but the problem still persisted. The worse thing is that i've not tried all these solutions on one single pc , i've tried on my pc , then i've also tried on 3 different computers at my workplace as well and all show the same problem.
Then you said about Real Player, i had installed real player coz i saw in some posts that updated real player also solves problem in some cases. But now after your reply , i disabled all real addons and tried but no solution still.
Here i'm including 3 screenshots , first is from Dailymotion.com (a random video from their front page) , the problem on this site is that when i right click on the video i do not see the flash dropdown menu here , and another thing is the text just below the video , i always see this text overlapping its never arranged as it should be in the website.
2ndly , here's the screenshot of the front page of youtube.com, when i open the front page , i can't see the static image of the video in thumbnails , it's written "thumbnail" instead .
and when i open any video on youtube , when i right click here, i do see the flash drop down menu but the video never plays. here's the screenshot.
    so any solutions now ???

  • Videos won't show up or play in any browser

I have created a website  in iWeb version 3.04 that contains videos imported into and from iMovie '11 version 9.04.
In iWeb, the videos play just fine.
I published the website to a local folder...then FTP'd the resulting index.html and website directory to my hosting account.
I have not done anything fancy or sophisticated...I have not done any customization...just straightforward and simple drag-n-drop.
Everything shows up and works perfectly except the videos on this page:
    http://www.midwayfullgospel.com/Midway_Full_Gospel/Visit_Online.html
From a Windows 7 64-bit computer, I have tried FireFox 13.01, Internet Explorer 9, Opera 11.11, and Safari 5.1.7 and they all have the same problem.
From a MacBook Pro running Lion, I have tried Safari 5.1.5 and it does not work either.
As a point of reference, all of these browsers will play YouTube videos just fine.
Also, if it comes down to this...I can look at HTML code and get the basic gist of what is happening...but I am not a web-programmer...so please respond accordingly.
So...I created a simple site in iWeb...uploaded it to my website...the videos don't play...and I am humbly calling out to the experts for help.
    And, thank you in advance.

Thank you QTK for your swift reply.
I am using GoDaddy's deluxe 4GH hosting.  In searching their support site, there does not appear to be any documented problems with the m4v extension.
It appeared as if the video file was missing to me too.  So, I dug into the page source code...and here is the file "tree" as I understand it:
http://www.midwayfullgospel.com/Midway_Full_Gospel/Visit_Online.html is the top level page that the movies are supposed to play in.
To display the movies, this file calls a JavaScript script called writeMovie1() which is contained in the file:
    midwayfullgospel.com/Midway_Full_Gospel/Visit_Online_files/Visit_Online.js
Inside the script, the writeMovie1() code includes the following relevant items:
    data="Media/MidwayService-Part1-6-10-12-mobile.m4v"
    and...
    <param name="src" value="Media/MidwayService-Part1-6-10-12-mobile.m4v"
Now, a snapshot of my directory structure from FileZilla (ftp client):
So, tying all these together based on what I think I am seeing and understanding...if http://www.midwayfullgospel.com/Midway_Full_Gospel/Visit_Online.html reaches "down" into the Visit_Online_files directory to load the Visit_Online.js file so that it can resolve the writeMovie1() script then it seems logical that it should be able to reach "down" into the Media directory and find the m4v files that absolutely do exist there.
As a secondary form of proof that the movie files exist in this directory...If I start QuickTime Player (in Windows 7) and do a File | URL Open... on:
    ftp://[email protected]/Midway_Full_Gospel/Media/MidwayService-Par t1-6-10-12-mobile.m4v//[email protected]/Midway_Full_Gospel/Media/MidwayService-Part1-6-10-12-mobile.m4v
Then, I am asked for my ftp password and then the movie loads and plays just fine.
Hopefully, I said all that in a way that makes sense.
If so, do you agree that the files and directories are all properly referenced?  (I would think that Apple would know how to generate all this properly)
If forced to, I could customize the code in the writeMovie1() function so that it does an absolute reference to the movie as in:
    /Midway_Full_Gospel/Media/MidwayService-Part1-6-10-12-mobile.m4v
But obviously, this is not desirable as I would have to fix this each time I made a change to the page.

  • HT4561 I have an iMac (2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) and recently updated to OSX10.6.8. At first things worked as before, but suddenly a bunch of applications are not working; including videos wont play in any browser, plus Skype and Logic Pro won't work

Recently updated to osx10.6.8. Was fine at first, but now have problems with various applications freezing/hanging.
These include Skype and Logic Pro.
In addition, cannot play videos (including YouTube and BBC) on Firefox (my usual browser), Safari or Chrome.
Application becomes frozen, and I eventually get an 'unresponsive script' message.
With Firefox I have tried clearing the cache. My Flash is upto date.
These are all the apps I use everyday, and this is driving me crazy. Can't seem to find answers on line. Very grateful for any help or advice.

Please download this app ... etrecheck, run it, copy or paste the results and post them back to us here.
From that we may be able to see more background to your problem.   Be assured, it is safe.

  • My .swf files that I embed using Dreamweaver do not play in any browser, online or local...

I've created a website in Dreamweaver (cs5.5).  (I created the swf in flash cs5.5 also) (I also have the latest flash player)
There's a test version here (there's no images, but in the /test/ directory there's the .swf file and a further /Scripts/ directory, created by Dreamweaver when I imported the swf,
    containing expressInstall.swf swfobject_modified.js) - www.pureimaginationcakes.com/test/
When I use the preview in browser feature, in both Iexplore and Chrome, I get a grey box where the movie should be.
I used Dreamweaver to import the swf. I did not code anything myself.
Online, there is simply no flash movie where it should be.
When I double click the expressInstall.swf in windows explorer I get a security alert saying Flash Player is blocking expressInstall.swf from communicating with fpdownload.macromedia.com,
and I can't figure out how to change this setting (that's if it's relevant).
I get the same problem from other computers, I don't know what else to do apart from post here.
Would be grateful of any help.

Both test sites work just fine for me.
The "Update plugin" message is exactly what would be displayed if no .swfobject file at all was found... so it may not be the "version11" thing but rather, perhaps something else is messed up with the .swfobject file.
File can be found in both folders:
    http://www.pureimaginationcakes.com/test/Scripts/swfobject_modified.js
    http://www.pureimaginationcakes.com/Scripts/swfobject_modified.js
and file does download when downloading the html page (just check the cache).... but for some reason it doesn't seem to be working.... Hummmmm????

  • You tube is fine but Video from other sites will not play in any browser all of a sudden. I have latest version of firefox (16.something) flash and all plug in

I cannot play videos from many sites. Everything was fine up until a few days aago. You tube works fine but others will not. I have firefox 16.something and latest versions of flash. All plug ins are there and enabled. Have read through many support threads and nothing is working. This happens on chrome and ie as well.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Quicktime won't play in any browser

Until recently quicktime played fine on all my internet browswers then somthing unknown happened so that In all browsers I get a quicktime question mark and nothing will play. This happens in all my browsers so that it must be something to do with my Mac. I have a Mac G4 10.3.9.

    What version Quicktime?
No question that the content is QT and not Windows Media Player, right?
Have you checked the settings in the system preferences and does everything look good?
Are movies set to play automatically? Have you tried different web sites with QT content to rule out the website as being faulty?
Have you tried to launch QT first, and then open the url from the file menu?
If not, do that first and if nothing changes, then it may seem silly, but I'd once again repair permissions, and I'd also run the disk repair while booted from the #1 CD.
Or download Onyx (free) and run it.
    Report back.....good luck!

  • Embedded video won't play in any browser

I have had a problem for a long time of videos on certain websites not playing on my MacBook Pro. I have the latest Lion OS update as well as the latest Flash update. I never have a problem with Youtube and most video plays fine but some websites, like for instance, news sites will not respond. I get a black screen with no controls or anythiing. Now I am having this problem with a site called MailChimp. I use FIrefox but it will not play in either Safari or Chrome. There must be some other people who have encountered this same problem. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

  • Flash Player won't work on any browser! Help!

    Hi!
I can't get any videos to play in any browser (Internet explorer, Chrome or Firefox). I can only play videos from Youtube and Netflix but no other videos or rich media content works.
I have literally tried everything that is recommended on the Flash Player Help page.
I've updated and re-installed Flash Player a million times.
I've updated and re-installed all my web browsers.
    I enabled and disabled Active-X.
I enabled Flash Player on Chrome through chrome://plugins
    I disabled background apps.
    I turned off my firewall.
    I checked for viruses.
And I googled the problem on a ton of other sites, followed other users' instructions to fix the issue, and still no luck.
    This is my system:
    Windows 8
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.7GHz 1.70GHz
64-bit Operating System x64 based processor.
I need Flash Player to do assignments online and I haven't been able to do them all week. Please help ASAP!
    Thank you!

As above, have gone through a number of browsers and tried all of the fixes listed on any webpage I can find. Always the same outcome, video plays for a few minutes (occasionally seconds) and then green screen/jumbled audio
Have tried Chrome, IE, Firefox and Opera, all with the same results.
Laptop is brand spanking new, out of the box less than two days, so far I've only installed the latest Nvidia drivers 347.09 and Avast.
    System is:
    Asus ROG G751JT
    Windows 8.1 (fully updated)
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.5GHz 2.49GHz

I found the answer to why my movie wouldn't play after publising.
Some smart user named nsukumar stated that if you used text animations it causes problems.
Sure enough, when I removed the text animation the finished results worked perfectly!
Thank you nsukumar where ever you are!
