My Mozilla icon is no longer showing on my task bar AND I can not shut down my computer

I have been unable, after multiple attempts, to 'shut down' my computer - while investigating possible reasons, I noticed that although Mozilla shows up on my screen icons, the symbol does not show up on my task bar. Not sure if one has anything to do with the other - but my Mozilla symbol has always showed up on my task bar, until now.

This may be more of a Windows problem than a Firefox one, but I will make a stab at answering it for you.
I am not at the moment using Windows 7. I imagine though that by default it looks for running apps and prompts a user to close or save etc. before closing down.
Use the task manager by I think right clicking the task bar or (was Ctrl + Alt+ Del) '''Ctrl + Shift+ Esc''' That allows you to see running programs and havethe option to stop them.

Can you try starting Firefox in Safe Mode. To do that, hold down SHIFT while you click the desktop shortcut or quick launch icon. Then click the '''Continue without making changes''' button.
If it works in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Which Mail icon? That in the Applications folder, that in the Dock, or some other? You do not have to quit your applications in order to shut down your computer (heck, you hardly ever need to shut down your computer).

Did you ever figure out what was going on? i've got the same issue.
I record 2 hour choir practices then edit the talking out to make more useful accompaniments for personal practice. During my editing process my MacBk Pro (0r GarageBand) decides it needs to "Analyzing audio for Flex Time Editing". It will finish doing it and immediately start over again. I can not cancel it so I just have to force quit Garageband and lose eveeryrthing I have editied since my last Save. I've shut my mac totally off and rebooted and to no avail. Any suggestions?

I close Firefox and then try to shut down my computer, but Windows says that Firefox is still running. It does not show up as running in Task Manager. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with same result.

I have also had problems starting Firefox. I click the icon and nothing happens. That problem is intermittent. The Windows message that Firefox is still running after I have closed the Firefox browser keeps occurring and I do not know how to remedy this.

The one thing that is locking up fire fox is the plug ins. You have to check to see if a plug in is locking up firefox first of all.
To see the processes press : CTRL+ALT+DEL. then click the tab marked "Processes" Then look for Fire Fox and click on it. Click the Yes button when the warning box show up.
Then do the say for "Plug-in Container" I believe that is called.
this is because all ads are now flash ads or video ads. They lock my computer up all the time.
When the CTRL+ALT+DEL are pressed. Keep this minimized and you can see if your computer is running at 100% memory near the clock. If the box is totally green, you are running a lot of programs on your system. Check the processes and find out what is not needed. Also watch your virtual memory. Rule of thumb is 1.5x total memory.
Then now it would be able to shut down the computer the right way.

I updated my iPhoto but has taken longer hours to complete. As such am not able to sigh out. All i get is "Your computer can't be shut down now, because the software is being updated".

Go to Apple menu > Force Quit and close App Store. Then, restart Mac OS X

My laptop seemed to be frozen and I could not shut down from the menu. I held the power button for a long time and finally it shut off. When I started it again it turned on to show a black screen with an icon of a file folder with a question mark inside

it means that the forced shutdown corrupted some portion of the internal disk’s filesystem. Which version of OS X is installed on your MacBook Pro?

Firefox is still running but does not show up in "task master" so it can be closed down and re-started?

1. Sometimes Firefox displays a message "Firefox is still running" but there is no evidence that this is true.
2. But, Firefox does not show up in "control-alternate-delete" to bring up Task Master in Windows 7.
3. There does not seem to be any means to stop Firefox and to re-start Firefox without a complete Re-start of the PC.
4. The mouse still works and the PC responds but there is no response from Firefox except the message "Firefox is still running..... etc.
5. How to stop Firefox, shutdown Firefox without a complete reboot/restart?

Way too complicated to solve the problem of "firefox is already running ....etc." and there must be a more simple solution to this problem which occurs once in awhile.
It seems to me that Mozilla developers can find a better solution and one that allows control-alternate-delete to fix the problem.
Otherwise, it is just resort to the old reboot solution.

I want to purchase an ipad but the program I would use onit the most to access my customer base will not show me the full screen and I can not side it over to show the rest of the ifo. Tis program will work on the Motorola xoom but thats not what I want .

Have you checked all your homescreens and app folders for it, also how many screens of apps have you got on the iPad (there is a maximum of 11) ?
You could try a reset and see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Of you could try resetting your homescreens via Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout and see if you can then find it.

Mail won't display the viewer window, and it will not close (force quit does not show in menu bar). Can't shut down to reboot because the open mail program prevents it. Any advice?

Mail does not show the viewer window even when new viewer window is cliced. I tried to close mail and reopen, but it will not close, and force quit option does not appear in window bar. I tried to shut down the computer and reboot, but it cannot close because of open mail program it says. Help!

I can't get to my desktop on my network and thought it might be a problem with the icloud. So I went to system preferences and the icloud icon is no longer there, although the mobile me icon IS showing... so, I don't know what's wrong!

i previously had 21.97 Gb music, over 6 Gb photos, about 1Gb of apps, and minute amount of audio
now i have no music, 5.4 Gb photos and similar (0.8Gb) for apps and audio. i have deleted heaps of photos and unused apps to try to make space but obviosly this is a much bigger problem. I also created a smaller music folder on itunes to sync to but at present no music is selected for syncing due to the lack of available space.
i have 15Gb icloud account now also which is about half full.
Ive done a little research and heard similar tales but with much smaller other totals than this. Can you help?

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.
