My nano generation 6 now stops playing music when the screen goes black

The nano recently started to do something weird. I have been using it for a couple years with no issues. Recently it will stop playing music as soon as the screen goes black (sleep). it never did this before. I have checked the settings, nothing was changed and I updated it - Restore default settings. that didn't work.
Settings: Sleep Wake = next track
It seems to work fine when I use a speaker accessory; the music continues to play when it sleeps.

just to confirm, it is not a issue with the earphones being only partially plugged in. I have verified this already.

IPod was working fine, then suddenly it began stopping mid song, when the screen goes dark, the music pauses. Why and how do I fix it. I already did a full restore.

I used to be able to leave the music playing and put the screen to sleep by tapping the power button. Now that same tap stops the music. If I dont push the button, the music plays for about a minute and then pauses. If I keep the screen active, the music contiues. I have tried a complete restore. Help anyone?

Is the headphones plug pushed in completely?
Does the headphones you are using have remote control buttons on the cord? If you try a different set (any type), does this problem still occur?

Playing music and the screen goes sideways

When I am playing music in shuffle mode, I see the vertical screen with the "Previous Song" and "Next Song" buttons. Then I put the iPhone in my pocket and eventually a lame song comes on (Haddaway's "What Is Love", for example). At this point I take the iPhone out of my pocket and inevitably the phone is in the sideways mode, where the "Previous Song" and "Next Song" buttons don't exist. I want to have access to those buttons.
My question is: Can I disable the sideways screen somehow? Or, can I get the "Previous Song" and "Next Song" buttons to appear on the sideways screen?

Just turn the screen to the normal position. The screen rotates when you rotate the iphone. Put the screen to sleep when you put it in your pocket and it shouldn't rotate at all.

And you are positive the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano?
Have you tried another set of headphones to see if the problem persisted? If so, it's likely that the headphone jack needs replacing.

Yes. The battery appears to be shot and in need of a replacement. This can either be done by Apple or a third party repair company.

Sorry to hear that you have had trouble with the S Voice app. When did the trouble begin? Any recent changes to the phone that correspond with it working when the screen is black? Go to the S Voice application -> Menu -> Settings -> Is the "Voice wake-up" turned on?

When I click on video it is stuck on one tv show, when I click 'done' the screen goes black so I can't access any other video that I downloaded from iTunes onto my iPad 2. How do I troubleshoot?

The video on my iPad 2 is frozen on a tv show, although it will play the tv show until the end. At the end, when I click 'done' the screen goes black so I can't see the other movies that I've downloaded. I've shut down a few times but it reverts to the same thing. I am assuming the phone was working prior to you installing IOS 6? Did you use itunes to install IOS 6 or just run from the phone?
When I tried to do the Over The Air update to IOS6 on my iPhone 4, it errored out and I had to connect it to iTunes and select "Restore" from the summary screen after iTunes finds the phone is connected. If this works for you, it will go through a couple of reboots that take a few minutes to complete. It should then give you the option to start with a fresh new phone or to use one of your previous backups to load your contacts and other information, provided you have backed up the phone previously.

I tried replacing the screen with no luck. The same thing happened with the new screen. I replaced the backlight coil and the backlight ic and still have the issue. I don't know what else could be the problem. If the battery is completely dead and I plug it in the "charging battery" symbol shows just fine during the entire time it is charging, but as soon as it starts to boot up the apple logo shows for a split second then the screen goes black. The rest of the phone still boots up just fine. I can use SIRI, press the lock button like I'm about to use my phone and slide my thumb across where the "slide to unlock" would normally be and it will make the unlock noise just no picture display. I am pretty tech savvy when it comes to repairs and all of the connections look fine, replaced backlight coil and ic, replaced LCD/digitizer, tried a restore, tried a DFU restore, multiple hard resets, but I am at a loss as to where to go from here. I had dropped the phone and put a minor crack in the screen but the phone worked just fine for a couple months after before this started to happen. The phone is still under apple warranty but apple won't cover it because Apple is stating that it is "caused by the crack in the screen." But being a repair technician I know that is not the case... Good one apple. So I took it upon myself to try to determine the REAL problem. Anyone with a little more knowledge have any ideas? Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Yes, I understand that. But The screen issue is not a result of user damage. The phone was not dropped when the screen got cracked. My daughter was standing in a chair at the table and dropped one of her toys onto the bottom of the phone and cracked it right by the home button. (Nowhere near the LCD/digitizer flex cables, connections, or logic board components) then a few months later my phone had died, I plugged it in, it showed it was charging, then Apple logo disappeared and screen didn't work. AFTER contacting Apple about the issue and them telling me that it "is a result of the very minimal crack to the sheet of glass that has no relation to the LCD or Digitizer and that the warranty does not cover it I had taken it upon myself to change the LCD/digitizer to no avail, as well as backlight ic and backlight coil to no avail. But how do I go about letting Apple know that it is in fact NOT due to the cracked screen nor is it due to the flex cable connections? I can't. So the lady that works the call center phones trying to "convince" me that she knows what she is talking about and "convince" me that it is from the cracked screen I have to take her word because I can't show Apple that its not because of that without paying them $199 to fix the screen in which case they will just send me a new phone rather than fix the faulty hardware under warranty.
