My network extender is dropping iPhone 5 calls?

We've had our Samsung Network extender (model SCS-2U01) for about 6 months and it has worked fine. Now both our iPhone 5s are suddenly dropping incoming and outgoing calls. It seems like our phones going "off" the extender or just not coming back on when we get home. This happens even if the phone is just a few feet away from the extender. Since there is no way to know if it is under "Extender Network Coverage" without dialing #48 or noticing that the two beeps don't happen at the start of a call, it's hard to track.
Typically, it will work fine for a few days, then once a call drops, neither one of us can get back on "Extender Coverage" to make/receive a reliable call for some time. We're tried restarting/rebooting the Extender as well as the router and modem behind it with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions/fixes? We ditched our land line since this $250 solution was working great, but now that it's not it's extremely frustrating.

I have the same exact problem with 3 of my iPhone 5s.  But with iPhone 5, its okay.  I really HATE it, since the 5s are work phones.  I could complete any conference calls.  When my boss or clients call me, it drops just after a minute talking.  Its very FRUSTRATING!.
Verizon, do you have resolution to this issue?  It seems that you have multiple complains regarding this issue, Yet, I haven't seen at least ONE resolution or response from your team regarding this issue.  Oh, I forgot, I thought I saw one, CLASS ACTION resolution.
My company that pays for this service is a one of your big customers here in Southern California.  If this problem persist, we might have to convince our contracting team to reconsider this issue. Especially we have other contracts with AT&T and Sprint.  Bottom line, its all about efficiency and reliability to run a business, which neither of the two are present at this pressing and frustrating issue.  PLEASE respond with true resolution.

  • Network Extender Dropping Calls when handing off to Outdoor Network

If I stand right next to my network extender, it works great.  the moment I move outside a 15 ft ring, I begin to drop calls.  i believe it is because my Blackberry is now getting a stronger signal from the outdoor network and I should be handing off to outdoor network.  Instead of the call continuing, it drops.    Also, the same thing happens when I am on a call inside my house, get into my car and drive away; I drop the call.  I have called VZW Tech support and was told to power down the unit, yadda, yadda, yadda and call back if I still have the problem. Well, I still have the problem, so I am posting this in the hope someone has seen this and it saves me the hour long support call that doesn't resolve my issue...

I have the exact same problem with a Verizon/Samsung network extender that started dropping calls after about 30 seconds into a conversation. This problem started at almost the exact same time as those reported on this forum. Verizon has not once mentioned that it may be a problem on their end and we quit using the extender almost a year ago. However, with new smart phones in the household and multiple reception problems, we need to find a solution. I think Verizon owes its customers/supporters a solution since it sold the extender devices to the consumers at substantial expense. I for one, would like to either get my money back along with the time spent trying to rectify the problem, or get a solution that will allow us to carry on conversations in our home. It is ridiculous with the amount of money spent on monthly Verizon Phone bills, that we get such poor service - simply ridiculous!

  • IPhone 4 and network extender troubles

I live in an area where I need a network extender to receive a signal.  All has worked perfectly fine in the last 4 years I've been with Verizon, until about 4 weeks ago when my daughter was trying to send me pictures that I never received.  I then noticed a picture I had sent her didn't go through either. I'm usually connected to wifi, but when I'm not and try to access the internet it says "could not activate cellular date network".   I have tried every suggestion I could find on the internet from other people who have had this issue with no luck, and I do mean everything from toggling off and on this and that, to taking my phone back to factory settings, which by the way, even with no back up and just adding one picture and one contact this issue exists.  When I'm in a 3G area I have cellular data and the phone works fine, including being able to send and receive pictures and being able to access the internet, so I have no reason to believe it's the phone or the settings.  I'm thinking it has something to do with the network extender not playing nice with my iPhone because my husbands Android is able to send and receive pictures and access the internet with no problems.   I would also like to note that about 2 weeks ago I contacted support to see if they had any news, the tech tried sending me a picture which I did just randomly receive about 2-3 hours later, along with a picture my daughter had sent me earlier in the day.  I asked her to send me another one which I got, but after that I tried sending her a picture and the problem was back.
I have been in contact with technical support and network support, who haven't really helped me.  I don't think they know what the problem is so they just ignore me, as it's been 8 days since I've heard from them.  I think 4 weeks is plenty of time to at least narrow it down.  On my first ticket they asked me to run a speed test, which I did and they were going to check the towers.  They called me on my cell, but I missed the call, thanks for leaving that VM though, no cellular data=no VM, so I didn't know until days later you left a message saying no problems were found.  So I had to start over again, two weeks since the problem started.   On my second ticket they said they didn't do the first ticket right, a week later they called back asking for another speed test, which came back above minimum requirements,  they were going to pass it on to network support and here I wait 8 days later, 4 weeks total with no end in sight.
Today I stopped at the Verizon store hoping they'd have some suggestions.  They said they couldn't do anything on their end, I'd have to call technical support...The only thing they told me that was new was something about a security breach with Samsung extenders, and maybe an update was pushed to my extender that's not playing nice with iPhone.  But how do I check on something like that, who do I report this to??   If that was the case wouldn't Verizon tech support know about it?  I'm not getting any help and I don't feel like anyone at Verizon really cares, but you can bet if my payment was 4 weeks late there'd be an issue.
    Any suggestions?

How old is the extender?  Can it support 1x or both 1x and 3G?  Try checking the Network Extender space for more suggestions and similar questions.

  • Iphone 5s - Calls Breaking Up - Searching for Network

    Hello.
I recently started using my new Iphone 5s and I have a big problem.
Every call I get or make, the call suddenly breaks up during the first minute. My network reception bar drops to 1 bar, then says "searching..." briefly, and then it comes back. But the call is already gone. There are no problems when I remake the call. But I get this problem with every single call that I make. I've never had a problem with my Iphone 4 for 2 years, so I don't think it's about my carrier. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. My phone keeps "Searching..." for network, and if I don't fix it, it can go on like that for days. I tried several solutions, Reset Network Settings, Reset All Settings, hard reset, and finally I restored my iphone to factory settings then re installed ios 8.1.3, which I had trouble doing because my phone took 4 days to finally have a successful restore. I am not sure if this is about updating to ios 8.1.3, but all of this happened to my iphone 5s a few days after updating. Anyway, after my phone had miraculously went thru with the restore, my phone was back to the way it was, but after 2 days, it went back to searching for network again whenever I get to an area with poor signal. I put phone in Airplane mode for about 10-20 mins, then turn off Airplane mode to check if signal is back. If it still  doesnt, I reset network settings, then airplane mode again. I have not yet used reset all settings since my iPhone restore. I tried to google and see if this really is an ios problem or just my case, then I came across your question. The latest fix I did just this morning is I plugged my phone to my wall charger and tried to dial a number and pressing the green call button several times until the signal went back. That was by far the simplest solution I have discovered, but I still can't say if that IS the solution because it was just my first time to do it. I advise you not to restore your phone because in my case, mine took 4 days to until i was able to use my phone again since restoring wasn't working. You don't want to end up with a dead brick phone. With mine,  I just kept trying until it went thru and I don't think I will be doing the restore all over again because of what happened.  I hope this is just a problem with ios update and that apple will soon find a permanent fix to this.

  • Echo on outbound calls when on Home Network Extender

Hello, I'm having serious trouble making outbound calls. Someone in my neighborhood has a network extender.  I get this little house with curvy lines above it that indicate that I'm connected to it while in the basement.  about 80% of the time I make an outbound call it will last from 2-10 seconds, before the other person's end drops, and I hear a perfect echo of my voice. It doesn't sound like an echo though, it's like myself talking back to me. It has about a 1 second delay.  This has happened on 3 different phones over the last 6 months and sometimes takes over 5 calls to finally connect and have it go through and be stable.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there a way to opt out of a network extender and make my phone only connect to towers?  It's killing me and I need to figure this out as I am about to start up a business and will be making most of my calls from the basement. Thank you!

Yeah if they white list their own numbers but you may still need a network extender to offset theirs

  • Calls have been dropping out mid-call (after initially working) with full reception since upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS5 (can hear them but they can't hear me).

Calls have been dropping out mid-call (after initially working) with full reception since upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS5 (can hear them but they can't hear me). The call initially works but then after a minute or so, they stop hearing me, even though I can hear them. Sometimes it goes the other way and I can't hear them.
Please advise how to remedy ASAP.

PS: I have had full reception bars when this has occured on a 3G network in Sydney, Australia (3 Mobile).

  • IPhone 6 prioritizes poor 4G Connection over strong network extender 3G signal

I use the network extender due to poor coverage in my basement.  I have spent multiple hours with both Verizon and Apple trying to figure out why sometimes my iPhone 6 won't connect to it, including a hard reset of the iPhone.  I finally figure out that the iPhone 6 prioritizes getting a 4g connection, not matter how poor, over a 3g connection, no matter how strong.  As a result, my phone will occasionally latch on to a weak 4g signal and not connect to the Network Extender.  When I then get or make a call, the connection and voice quality is terrible.  The only work around is to completely turn off LTE.  This forces connection to the 3G Network Extender.  Of course, I then forget to turn it back on when I leave the house.  Are there any plans to provide some sort of a fix or a setting to make this more convenient?

PROBLEM SOLVED (so far). My wifes iphone 6 plus had the exact same issue. . .would keep going back to the weak 4G signal over the network extender.
To fix it, go into SETTINGS>CELLULAR>Enable LTE and set to DATA ONLY. . .NOT Voice and Data.
So far so good. . .only affects being able to make calls and surf the web at the same time, so if you don't do that much then you're not going to be inconvenienced too badly.
Hope it works for you!  Also, if the iPhone 6plus is like my Note3, then it has 2 antennas, 1 that's hooked into 4G and the other one that's connected to the network extender. . .it defaults to the 4G signal, so it may only show minimal bars till you actual make or receive a phone call then it'll jump to the network extender signal strength.
    Good luck!

Oh no! Lets ensure that you are connected. Have you tried to reset the Network Extender? Are other devices able to connect to the Extender? Is your Internet service up and running?

My IPhone 6 128GB with current software using AT&T is dropping 5-10 calls a day. I am calling from an office with good signal strength and in the same location as i did with my 5S which almost never had dropped calls. Is this a hardware or software issue? Is this a common issue with the new IPhones?

    Hi jackneedshelp,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If calls are not going through on your iPhone 6, I recommend going through the troubleshooting method found at this link:

I have a Samsung Network Extender, model SCS-2U01, and for the past two weeks, the SYS light has gone from solid blue to a blinking red light, disconnecting me from my business calls. In reading the forums, it was mentioned that Verizon had to reset something on their end to fix the issue. Would you be able to confirm if something needs to be reset to fix the issue? Thank you!

First, try the normal stuff: power cycle your modem, router, and NE allowing time for each component to stabilize before turning on the next in sequence modem > router > NE. If necessary, try resetting your modem and router. If it still doesn’t work verify it is listed in MyVerizon and then calling Verizon Wireless Customer Service at (800) 922-0204. Good luck!

  • IPhone 5S Call quality issues - Are they resolved?

    Hi folks,
So long story short, I was previously a VZW customer with an iPhone 5S. When I was a customer, everything worked great, except one thing, Calls.
    What would happen during is:
    1) The calls would sound metallic/robotic
    2) the calls would sort of go in and out (for example I would hear: " Yeah ... Fun at... Saturday)
(Both 1 and 2 would happen indoors and outdoors)
    3) Calls would drop
So like any reasonable person, I called into Customer Service and was offered a Network Extender for $199. This did help indoors for the most part, but not outside (like literally outside my building; out of range perhaps?)
I read of others having the same issues here, so I knew I wasn't alone, but there was just no solution to the problem. I thought it was my iPhone at first. However, I ported out to AT&T and the calls were crystal clear compared to VZW. So that kinda confirmed it's not my phone.
My zip code is 10453 (and this area has great coverage according to the coverage map, but I couldn't get any more than 3 bars of LTE outside and 1-2 indoors). My question is, has this issue been resolved? If so how can I improve it? Honestly looking forward to being a VZW customer again, despite no simultaneous talk and surf on the iPhone.
    Thanks for any comments/solutions offered!

When the person called me, I was indoors. I am the one with the ATT phone (wanting to switch to vzw) and never get this issue, not even when Sprint callers call me. The person who called me was outdoors and he has Verizon (zip: 10023)
The call was very choppy with the voice cutting in and out on his end, and the call was slightly metallic sounding. I could barely understand a word he was saying. The quality was exactly the same when I was with Verizon. At first I thought it was my phone, and now this confirms it never was my phone. I am truly convinced this is a notice cancellation issue with verizon because like I said, I never get this issue when Sprint users call me. It doesn't really matter who initiates the call, the quality is always the same, horrible.
I really want to be part of VZ but I can't if I am to expect these issues!   please help. I don't know if it's congestion or just the call coding itself.

  • Why does signal vary on network extender?

was recently supplied a network extender by Verizon, does help with signal when working correctly but though all four lights are blue on extender, sometimes we have full signal on our phones and sometimes it drops to one or two bars for no apparent reason (even if standing next to the extender)??? Disconnecting power from the extender and resetting it restores full signal, did we get a defective unit?  phones are (2) moto droid maxx's and an iphone 5s

        Jwhitler,
We're happy to assist in troubleshooting your Network Extender.   I know how important it is to be able to receive your calls and be able to depend on them.  When did this start occuring?  You stated that disconnected the power regains full signal for you.  How often do you have to perform this reset?  Are you able to move the location of the Extender?
We look forward to hearing some further details so we can assist in finding resolution.
