My outgoing mail won't work either

I've been a mac user for years, and I've had a .mac email account for over a year. This week I decided to sync up all of my various email accounts (work, personal, etc.) to Mail. The application worked fine for a couple of days, but now I can't seem to send mail. Even from my own .mac account!(Recieveing it is fine.) I've run Connection Doctor but I still get an error that says it can't connect to the SMTP server. I'm getting a "Port 25" error when I try to send from Mail itself. Any idea what's up?

Read the following article, which applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):

  • Outgoing mail won't work on iphone 5?

I set my godaddy email account the same as I had on my 3Gs, but it won't send messages and states "Cannot send mail. A copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient was rejected by the server".  I can still email from my deactivated iphone (3gs), so the problem is NOT with go daddy.  What setting needs to change in my phone? I placed the phones side by side and everything is entered the same on both phones. Please Help!
    Thanks!!!

If ALL the settings are Exactly identical and the 3gs is working properly, then just delete the email account, reset your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up, then re add the email account and make sure you add it under the "other" tab when setting it up.

  • Outgoing mail is not working on the Macbook Pro

    Hey
I am using the mail client to read my gmail mails in my Macbook Pro. Incoming and outgoing emails were working fine and all of a sudden for the last 2 days my outgoing mails are not working and i get this error" the sender address blah blah.com was rejected by the server".
I reentered my cred in the pref pane and it still does not work. I am able to send mails fine using the browser. Incoming mails is fine is fine on the client.
Any idea what is causing this error?
    Thanks

Mac Mini, MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I'm not sure why this worked fine for a period of time but most, if not all ISPs use for connecting to the internet block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't work, you need to add your ISP's SMTP server to mail and select this SMTP server to send mail with your gmail account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • My itunes store, app center, safari and mail won't work after upgrade

I am very dissapointed in the new maverick upgrade. My app center, itune store, safari, and me mail won't work with the new upgrade. I called the help desk and they had me uninstall and re install the upgrade. he said i should have everything backed up cuz I will lose everything, but nothing was lost. It worked for a day, but now it doesn't work at all. it just gives me the hourglass circle symbol and finally times out. A couple of times  my computer gave me an error code that i wasn't connected to the internet, even though I could use chrome no problem. Another error code I got was that I wasn't signed in, but I am. Any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

How are you trying to access gmail? Are you using their web mail page at www.gmail.com? Or using the Apple Mail application? Or something else?
If you are trying to use the web mail, what browser are you using? Does the failure occur when you try to load the initial page, or after you try to log in?

  • HT1338 Outgoing mail suddenly stopped working:-(

My outgoing mail suddenly stopped working - need help to reconfigure.
    Thanks

I had that issue once too. I turned off my Internet sources (AirPort, ethernet connection) and then opened Mail. Mail actually opened that time. I went to my accounts, deleted them, closed Mail. I then turned on my Internet connection and reopened Mail, reimported my accounts, and everything has been fine since.
Just a note: I was using IMAP, so everything I wanted on my Mail was on the server, so by deleting my accounts nothing changed. If you're using POP(3), you may experience different issues. By turning off your Internet connections, you can at least determine if Mail is having issues connecting to a server or if the bug is something else.
Good luck - I'm sure others will have several different suggestions here.

why my outgoing mail server not working after ios 6 upgraded

Ask your carrier to send you the settings over wifi and then install them that way.
I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??
Very Poor indeed and I held off using Apple products for years for this very reason!!

  • Mail won't work in 10.7.5

I recently upgraded to a MacBookPro running 10.8 and it's fine. I too the HD out of my older MacBook and turned it into an external runing 10.7. I discovered when starting up in 10.8 that I coul not acces the Mail an AddressBook files on the 10.7 external. If i tried to open Mail I'd get a message saying Mail canot be used with this OSX.
No problem. If i needed those files I simply switched start up to the external and all was fine. BUT, tonight I (accidentally) used software update and upgraded the External to 10.7.5. Now Mail (5.2) that did work fine before the upgrade no longer works. I get the same message as above. Mail help says try opening the Mail in my apps folder --- done that, same result. Now I can't access those mail files at all???
To recap -- External drive with 10.7 and Mail 5.2 worled fine. Now upgraded to 10.7.5 Mail does not work. Internal HD running 10.8 with Mail 6.1 works fine BUT won't open the older files in Mail 5.2.
Bottom line I want to get access to those files using either HD - internal or external. Can I undo the upgrade to 10.7.5? Can I otherwise moves those files so Mail 6.1 will open them??
I tried to go back and custom reinstall mail from my 10.6 discs but that won't work because a newer version is installed (10.7). I'm at a reall loss.

I have the same audiocard, and i've not installed it over lion yet. But I saw in other forums that boot in 32bit mode (pressing 3 and 2 keys during boot) may solve the issue.
    Hope it helps.
    Beto
