My picture in outgoing mails

When I sent an e-mail there is a small picture in the mail which the receiver will see. How do I change this picture? At this point it is an illustration that I have chosen when I installed my new computer but I wish to change it to a picture of myself!

If I understand you correctly, that picture is not one that is actually attached to the e-mail, so nobody else sees it. It is the picture associated with your e-mail address in the Address Book, so Mail displays the picture when it shows the message.
If you want to change this picture, you can do it by double-clicking the square with the picture in it on your card in the Address Book.

  • My account picture in outgoing mail

    This is a dumb question
but I don't know how to get rid of my account picture from my outgoing mail.
I have no idea how it got there in the first place.
It is in all my outgoing mail. Can someone please tell me how to remove it from my outgoing mail .
    Thank you

    Hi Teresita,
Assuming you have a .Mac account,
    try online, your .Mac,
Account Settings > Mail Preferences > Composing
there should be an option to "use a custom photo", that you can uncheck.
    Another place you can investigate:
On your computer, in Address Book, edit your own profile, the one with the black silhouette.
If there is a picture of you, take it off,
Mail then after a logout-login should not be able anymore to find any picture of you.

  • My picture in outgoing mail?

Hi, I´m a brand new iMac (or any Mac for that matter) user and I need some help.
When I was setting everything up I had the choice to take my picture with the computers built-in cam (to be my profile pic). And so I did, but just now I realized that that picture gets sent out with every outgoing email. Is there anyway to prevent that? Not that I´m hideous or something, it´s just that I don´t want every person that I send mail to to know what I look like. :-p
    Thx for any help!
    /Anna

    Welcome to the Mac !!
You can change your picture if you want to by going into System Preferences, Accounts, Click on the picture. You will then get another chance to take a picture of yourself, or I just picked out one of the standard icons that they have to select from (no, not the cute kitty cat).
    Enjoy!

  • Picture in Outgoing Mail.

    Hi,
When ever i send out a Mail it goes with my user account picture and i don't want that. I am not able to delete the picture from address book on the card that is mine. Any Suggestions.? (I am using Live and everything else works fine.)
    Thanx
    John.

If your recipient has your picture in his address book, then when he displays your inbound message in his Mail viewer, it will link to that picture in his address book and display it in his mail viewer when viewing the message that he received from you.
The only other way that the picture could possibly be sent was if it was sent as an attachment, but that wouldn't display it up in the header of the received message when viewed by the recipient.
There is, or was at one time, a thing called "X-Face" which was a way to use a reasonably compact ascii character string in an email message header to encode a very grainy black-and-white image in the header kind of like what Mail displays when it links to a picture in your address book (only way more grainier, 1-bit color, and since it was ascii code in the message header it was indeed transmitted). But I don't think Mail.app has ever recognized X-Face headers, though. There is certainly no mail preference setting to add an X-Face image.

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.

  • Outgoing mail with unwanted indelible picture

    hi,
My MAIL program has a mind of it's own: each outgoing e-mail is sent out with a picture automatically pasted on; I tried several ways to undo it, but to no avail.
Could someone let me me know:
    1) how to choose whether or not do I want a picture to be pasted on the outgoing mail
    and, even more important,
    2) at least to give me the choice of the picture to be pasted
Right now the indelible picture that is invariably sent out with each and every mail is one of his own choice from photo-booth. I even deleted all the pictures I had residing on photo-booth, which is now empty, but the outgoing mail still paste THAT picture that was previously on photo-booth, on all outgoing mail.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Welcome to the discussions, piera.
Are you sure the picture is actually being sent? If I look in my mailboxes at mail I have received, mail will look for the sender in the addrress book, and if it finds an associated picture it will put that picture on the right end of the header portion of the message. The picture does not come with, and is not part of, the mail message.
Likewise if I look in my Sent mailbox mail will add my login picture to the header bar - but the picture has not been sent with the outgoing message. If you don't like the picture you can change it System Preferences/Accounts. I don't think you can have no picture, but you could make a picture of a blank space and use that.

  • Picture to right of outgoing mail header

I can't be the only one to have somehow set up Mail to send a picture on my outgoing mail (it appears to the right of the header), and not been able to remove it or turn it off. Can somebody help me remove this annoyance with out destroying the rest of my Mail setup?

is it the same picture as you have in your login window? Do you have a "Me" card in AddressBook? Try eliminating your "Me" card (at least temporarily for verification purposes) if you don't want to look at it. If your concern is whether or not the picture is not transmitted with your message, it isn't. If you had pictures of people in your address book, when you received an email from them, you would see those pictures. But they are not sending them to you, just like you are not sending your picture out.
As a test, if you temporarily removed your "Me" card from the address book and sent yourself a message, you would see that it isn't in your sent mail, it isn't in your received mail. Then if you sent another "pictureless" one out, and then after that, you reinstalled your "Me" vcf card in Address Book and selected a picture for that card, , then downloaded new mail, your picture is back. But you didn't send it out. Try it.

  • Help! My outgoing mail has the image of pink lips in the upper right-hand corner.  I did not put it there; it is fun but not exactly professional!  How do I get rid of it?

Please help!  My outgoing mail messages arrive with an icon of pink lips in the upper right-hand corner.  I have no idea how it got there.  This is cute but not really professional. Does anyone know how I can get rid of it?  Thanks!

It's been almost three years since I bought and set up my most recent Mac but if I recall correctly .....
When you initially set up your Mac, you were offered the opportunity to snap a photo of yourself in order to associate your photo with your user account on the computer. If you declined the photo I think the Mac will pick or suggest a picture from the preinstalled selections in the accounts pane of the system preferences. You can change the picture but you cannot delete it totally. That picture is part of your ID for that user account on the Mac.
If you want to change it, Open System Preferences and click on accounts. Click on your account to change the picture. You will have to unlock the preference in the bottom left corner - and to do that - you need to enter your password. Click on the picture of the Eagle and then all of the preinstalled photo choices pop up in another window. Select another photo and then clcik the lock icon again when you are done.

  • How to remove a photo (of me) from outgoing mail??

I guess when I first set up this Mac, I was enamoured of the little camera on the top of the screen and took a (really bad) pic of me and it is now attached to all my outgoing mail. I suppose I chose to do that - but now I WANT IT OFF. First, it's really bad. Second, I don't have that (really bad) haircut anymore. Third, what was I thinking???
Anyone know how to remove it?
    thanks -

As Julian said, the picture is not actually attached to the outgoing message.
If someone using a .Mac mail account sets up his or her account to share pictures, when you view a message from that person in Mail you'll see the shared picture. The picture *_is not sent in the message itself_*; instead, when you view the message, Mail looks for the picture on the .Mac server. You can only view shared pictures from a .Mac account using Mail and webmail.mac.com.

    "Using stationery in messages
You can add a personal touch to a message by applying a stationery template, and even including photos. For example, if you’re writing friends to invite them to dinner, you can apply the Dinner template to make your message look like a professionally printed invitation.
    To use stationery:
In the New Message window, click Show Stationery.
To view the template choices, click a category, such as Announcements.
To apply a template to your message, click its thumbnail.

You can change the background color of some templates by clicking the thumbnail. For example, click the Daisies thumbnail several times to see different background colors.

When you decide on a template, you can click Hide Stationery to see more of your message.
To add images, drag a picture from your desktop or the Finder over a placeholder photo.

If you have images on your computer from using Aperture, iPhoto, or Photo Booth, click Photo Browser to view and select those images.

You can drag any folder of images onto the Photo Browser so the images are easily accessible.

If the image is larger than the placeholder photo, double-click the image to display a slider you can use to zoom in on an area of the photo. You can also drag the image around to show a specific area.
To remove a template from your message, click the Original thumbnail in the Stationery category. Any text, images, or formatting that you had added are retained.
If you use a template often, you can add it to the Favorites category. Drag the thumbnail over the category list. To remove a favorite, select it and click Remove (x).
You can create your own stationery. In a new message, enter and format your text, add images, and then choose File > Save As Stationery. Your custom stationery will be available in the Custom category, at the end of the list."
Thanks Help.App (my new best friend)

  • Outgoing mail in sent folder never sends, consumes bandwidth, heats up device.

I just filed a defect, the text of which I have copied below in part. I'm wondering though if anyone else has seen this, and if they have has it occured to them repeatedly? I'm wondering if I need to really keep an eye on my mail problem to make sure I don't keep incuring charges from AT&T and risk setting my phone on fire
Summary: Outgoing mail in sent folder never sends, consumes bandwidth, heats up device.
Symptom: Device heats up to an almost unbearable temperature. Meanwhile in 18 hours the phone chews up over 2 gigbytes of cellular data, even though the phone sat next to a wireless G router, which it stayed connected to, and the connection remained good. I won't claim they are related, only that they occured at the same time.
Point of interest, putting the phone in "Airplane Mode" cooled the device down immediately. Restarting the device helped, unless the email app was opened up after restarting. Same thing with killing the app, cooled down until the email client was opened again. I figured this out over the course of 18 hours.
    Steps to Reproduce:
I have not tried to reproduce this issue yet, but here are the actions I took prior to getting into the bad state.
Pre-conditions of the phone: I was connected to a good wifi signal. I had good 3G service. Phone was not experiencing any problems.
    1. Took a picture with the camera. Sent picture via email (using iphone client through gmail server).
    2. Did step 1 again with a different picture.
    3. Took a 43 second movie, which was about 50mb. Attempted to send movie via email same as the pictures.
    Expected Results:
The movie would have sent after a reasonable amount of time.
    Actual Results:
According to AT&T, 196,265 KB of data was sent in the hour following my attempt to email the movie.
After restarting the phone, I must have killed its attempts at sending, at least via 3G. However I checked my email via my phone again right before bed. I woke up the next morning to find my phone had become extremely hot yet again. AT&T claims I used 1,890,652 KB (not a typo) that night while I slept.
I restarted my phone the next morning and that "fixed" it again. Until around noon I finally figured out that it was my opening the email client that was triggering the heat. At this point I noticed that the email with the attached movie was still "Sending". I could not kill or delete the email, killing the app and restarting the phone did not stop or fix it. I had to put the phone in Airplane mode, which caused the email client to give me a proper error, and then I was able to delete the email. I have had no over heating issues since.
    Regression:
Getting charged an extra $20 in data usage by AT&T.
    Notes:
As stated, I have not tried to reproduce this yet. I am slightly fearful that I will accidentally incur another $20 worth of data usage unknowingly. My phone has never been jailbroken or in other ways modified, and has experienced no other issues or trauma recently. I've owned the phone for 2 years and it was bought brand new.

In my opinion there is only one way to get this issue fixed -> contact Apple:

  • Outgoing mail has completely died... Help...

    Hey all,
    This is the weirdest thing.
All my outgoing mail is frozen in the outbox.
Eventually I get the error message
"The server at mail.stevelevine.com cannot be contacted on any of the default ports.
Select a different outgoing mail server fromt he list below or try later to leave the message in your outbox until it can be sent."
Note that this has nothing to do with any of the outgoing servers.  I have 6 or 7 on this mail system and the same is suddenly happening with all of them.
Tried quitting mail, rebooting, clearing everyone out of the outbox and trying again.
    Two Notes:
Incoming mail is working fine on this MacBook.
Outgoing mail is working fine on my IMac, with all the same settings, internet connection etc.
Tried using a different internet connection and experienced the same thing.
I'm really good at this stuff, but I am completely stumped on this one.
    Any ideas?
    Steve

  • My MacBook pro has stopped connecting to the outgoing mail server smpt (Tiscali) server, still receives mail fine, and connects to the web. Any suggestions welcome.

My MacbookPro has always worked fine, receiving and sending emails through my server,Tiscali.  I took it to France for a few days, and was able to receive emails and use the web (through the wireless router and server in our accomodation), although as usual when away from home, I couldn't send emails. I tried to set up a new outgoing email route using O2 (as suggested by a web article), but it didn't work, so I deleted it, and used Tiscali webmail to send emails.
When I returned home, I selected my usual outgoing server (Tiscali), but found to my great surprise, that I could no longer send emails - Mail timed out, 'unable to connect'. I noticed when clicking on: Mail - Preferences, that in the outgoing mail smpt box, Tiscali appeared, as usual, but now was followed by (Offline)
Receiving emails and web connections have remained fine.
I've checked with Tiscali, and they can't find any problem with their server or my settings.  Grateful for any suggestions about possible causes for this problem, and how to fix it.
    Joe

I have just tried attaching the ethernet cable to the MacBook to see what happens. The system is fine, but when starting Mail, it never opens and locks up. You eventually just have to force quit out of the program.

  • Since 10.5.6 outgoing mail slow ??

Since moving to 10.5.6 my outgoing mail is slower.
Previously if I sent just a simple email with just a few lines of text it would go instantly.
Now the same type of message seems to take anywhere up to 20 secs to go and during that time I get the spinning graphic next to the out folder or sent folder.
Not the spinning beach ball of death, just the normal spinning graphic which I expect to get when sending an email with a large attachment or lots of graphics.
Has anyone else noticed this ?

I am quite certain that I had the sound effects check box in system preferences activated prior to the 10.5.6 upgrade as I had the empty trash sounds activated. After the upgrade, something during the install process unselected this check box in system preferences because I noticed I had lost the internal Mail sounds as well as the sound for emptying the trash. When I checked preferences in Mail the check box for "play sounds in mail" was still checked but there were no more sounds. It seems odd to me that you now have to go to two different places to turn on the sound feature in Mail whereas before it was only one checkbox. How is it fixing a bug by requiring two steps instead of one? Minor point, but it is rather confusing and convoluted.
