My pictures are there but i can't see them.

I went on iphoto to put on some picutres from my digital camera and the pics went on the computer fine but as i was editing the pics iphoto began to work really really slow. so i restarted and went back on but it's was still really really slow. now besides the fact that it's slow, when the program does show up my pics are there but i can't see them, all there is, is the outline of the box where the pics are but no pictures. i'm not sure if i got a bad file or a bug. so if anyone can help me out that would be great.

Hi Ryan,
If you can give more information it would be great.
What kind of camera do you have?
What version of iPhoto are you running?
How much free space is on your HD?
You can try a rebuild to see if that might help. Get back with results.
Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
Close iPhoto
Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

  • My pictures are there but i can't see them help!!!

I need help i have iphoto 4 and something happened where it has the pictures there but i can't see them. Its 500 pictures in my libary but they are all blank put the outline of the picture and its shape. i imported new pictures and they show up but not my old ones please let me know what i did or how i can get them back also under photo library i have a sub folder titled recovered photos and recovered photos 1 but i don't have any options on how to recover them or get them back please help me i am very worried!
    thanks lisa

Here's a way to possibly preserve some of the roll information while importing the old library into a new one. With iPhoto 4 you have to remove the thumbnail files from the source library because V4 will import them as normal files and really mess up the new library. Here's how to go about it.
1 - duplicate the current iPhoto Library folder - (Command-D)
2 - run a search on just that folder as follows:
    TIGER:
    a. open the folder and type Command-F
    b. set Kind is Images and Size is less than 100KB.
    PANTER:
    a. select the old iPhoto Library folder and type Command-F
    b. set the search criteria to: Name contains "jpg" and Size is less than 100KB.
This will find all of the thumbnail files in your library.
    3. select them all in the Search Results window and drag to the trash.
4 - open iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, create a new library.
5 - select the File->Import menu option. Go to the old library folder that you just cleaned out and select it. Click on Import.
That will import just your full size photos and keep some of the roll organization. You will also have the original files of those you edited previously in there. You may want to go thru and get rid of the original or edited version as you see fit.
Once you're satisfied you've go all of your photos safely in the new library you can delete the old one and the duplicate of it that you made.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Apple TV knows my pictures are there but I can't see them

I have many years worth of pictures on my Windows 7 PC but I only choose to Home Share a couple of year's worth via our Apple TV.  Years 2011 and 2012 load up with no problems at all on the Apple TV and we can see all pictures within those folders.  But I'm having trouble with my 2013 folder.  All of my pictures in that folder from January 1 up through July 3 load just fine on the Apple TV but anything after that point shows up on the screen as a blank box with a "?" in it.  And then anything after about July 5 shows up no problem (so basically all of my pictures from July 4 are just boxes with "?").  Apple TV knows all of those in-between pictures are there...but it won't let us "see" them...just dozens of blank boxes between pictures that we can see.  Any thoughts?

  • My bookmarks are there but i can't see them.

I have bookmarked pages previously, but when i click on the bookmark button there are no bookmarks there, when i try to bookmark them again, it asks if i want to remove this bookmark, so i know they must be there but it won't show them.

Which folder is shown as the location of that bookmark?
You can click the down arrow or plus sign at the far right of the folder line in the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog, that opens if you bookmark that page a second time, to see the full tree list with the folder selected.

  • My files are there but itunes can't 'see' them.

I recently relocated my itunes library using itunes own settings for where to put the ibrary, then running Conslidate.
Several random files are unable to be played, giving me the 'I can't find that file' message.
I looked into the XML file for two examples:

Both file paths are valid - both real files exist in the listed folder.
I SUPPOSE I can go through my entire 12,000+ track library searching for randomly lost media links within iTunes, then use the 10+ clicks it takes PER TRACK to tell iTunes where the file is. Even though the path in the XML look accurate.
Any ideas? And please don't tell me to dump my iTunes library itl and xml files and start from scratch. I have dozens of playlists, layers smart playlists, etc. I can't even imagine getting all that setup again.

OK, here's what REALLY doesn't make sense.
After manually fixing a lost file, NOTHING in the XML changes. Not one single character changes in the XML file. I diff'd the whole file before and after - no difference. So, basically, it goes out and 'finds' it and updates something that we can't see to repair the connection, meanwhile we are left to think that this XML file has the library data in it.
Mind you, the media file(s) are present and accounted for in the file system - correct name and path and everything - before and after I go Locate the file when iTunes complains about it being missing..
iTunes is so overbloated, we can't even fix stuff when we see precisely how it is broken.

Quick update, the duplicate of the comic-con episode downloaded succesfully, and so has the first episode of Supernatural season 8. Blue dots appear to their left in the library.
All the Vampire Diaries episodes (except the bonus comic-con double) have vanished, but I paid for them !
They're not anywhere on my harddrive either.
Which is new by the way, this is a new MacbookPro, literally set it up today.
So it would seem this is a case of purchased and pseudo-downloaded episodes that ended up beinge gobbled up by some iTunes black hole, leaving me with no money, and no episodes.
    Need help, confirmed.

  • The documents are there but I can't see the writing?

So today I had more memory put into my computer (Apple authorized dealer, but not the Apple Store) and when I got home I opened Pages and although all my files/documents were there, I can't read anything. They appear as blank pages.
What happened? And more importantly what can I do? This is 5 years of work for me and I have a big presentation in the morning. (Yeah, I'm really sick about this )
    Any suggestions would be awesome.

The Combo updater should fix most of your problems.
The Pages icon on the dock is not the application, it is only pointing to it.
Use Spotlight (top right corner) to search for Pages. Have you looked in your trash in case it was accidentally moved there?
You can install [iWork '09 trial|http://www.apple.com/iwork/download-trial] which will be good for 30 days, to get on with your work. Pay for it any time you like.

  • HELP - My Songs Are there but iTunes can't find them!!!

I just moved my iTunes library to a different drive and iTunes just gives me "!" next to the song files and tells me the song file isn't there.
    Help!!

    Edited:
Did you go to iTunes Preferences/Advanced/General/ and show iTunes the path to the new drive? If not, you need to do that.
The ones which will play are the ones iTunes can find. The " ! " ones are the songs iTunes thinks it can't find. If you quit iTunes and restart your system, the next time you open iTunes the checks should be gone.

  • Messages are present but I can't see them

Something happened that has affected one of my POP mail accounts. I was doing something (not sure what) and suddenly, all of the messages that were stored in the mailbox disappeared. Vanished. At the same time, an "arrow" appeared just to the left of the mailbox name, similar to the arrow that sits just to the left of global "Inbox." The arrow suggests there are subsidiary folders in the affected mailbox. When I click the arrow, it rotates 90 degrees (points down), but I still can't see my missing mail or other folders. Equally puzzling is that as new messages arrive for that mail account, the "new messages" counter next to the mailbox name increases as it should, but I still can't see the messages. Bottom line, messages are in there someplace -- I just can't seem to find them. Any suggestions on how to repair this problem?

Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • SOS: Mail messages there, but Mail can't see them!

Hi folks. My wife just changed ISPs. She had three email addresses through her own domain.
Now she can send and receive emails from all three, but in two of the three mail accounts all the emails that were in her account are 'gone'.
But they're not actually gone completely though - when I go to Users/xyz/library/mail the accounts are still there, and I can work down through the various inboxes etc and see the messages - when I doubleclick to open them they open in Mail.
It's not that they're in the wrong spot or anything - I can see that new emails are also going into those very same folders, so Mail's still 'pointing' the addresses to the right folders. It's just that Mail isn't displaying any messages that were there before today.
I'm guessing there must be some file that indexes the messages in the folder so that Mail knows they need to be displayed. Could anyone tell me what it is, and how I'd force it to rebuild/fix itself?
    BTW, I've tried restarting already.
Weird that one account went fine, all messages still showing, and the others have the problem.

    Hello Paul:
Try rebuilding the mailbox(s). Open Mail. Highlight the mailbox(s) you wish to rebuild. Click on mailbox>rebuild (menu bar).

  • Both the download and cookie exception dialogs are empty. I know there are entries there but I can't see them. This has been a problem since release 5.0 on Mac OSX.

They're empty, no entries. When I download a file I can see the download progress but once the download is finished the entry disappears.
The Cookie Exceptions list is always empty. But I know the list contains entries because I have Firefox configured to ask me about allowing cookies. So there should be many entries with sites either allowed, allowed for session, or denied.

I had the same issue: Exception list empty, but exceptions still present.
I've inspected my permissions.sqlite file and found an entry with permission set to -1. After changing this to 1, all exceptions were visible again.

  • My games are there but I can't get them to sync to My iPod

Ok, Here is the problem. I have the 80G iPod Classic. I just replaced it and I'm totally psyc'd. I had games on My other one that wont sync to this one what is the problem? I think it's because this is also a new computer, but I'm not sure. Can someone please help?

I have a similar issue with my 80G classic. It replaced a 30G 5th gen. I have 3 games that worked fine on the 5th gen, and are supposed to work on the classic. They show up in itunes, but will not sync. Other games synced with new ipod just fine. Any thoughts?

  • I've lost all the faces on my "faces" page. The photo's are there but I can't get them to display

    thumbnails are missding in Iphoto

Your iCloud backup doesn't contain your music.  It will restore music purchased from the iTunes store to your iOS device if you restore the backup by redownloading it from the iTunes store.  You can also redownload music purchased from the iTunes store to your iTunes library on your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.  This will not recover music from other sources.
To transfer music from your phone to your computer, you will need to extract it using 3rd party software such as Touch Copy.

  • Photos are on Ipod but I can't see them

In the past I have successfully put pics on and off my ipod. Right now I can see in itunes and on my ipod my photos are there but I can't see the actual picture. All I see on my ipod is the outline of the picture and in slide show settings I get a black screen.
I took all the photos off and put them back on and still nothing but a blank screen.
    Help?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder.

  • TS3899 I can send emails but I can't see them in sent mail

I am sending emails and they are received but I can't see them in my sent mail - I'm sure it's a settings issue but not sure how to change it?

    Hi giradifco62,
I understand your iPad Air has an email account set up that is able to send email but it is not receiving incoming mail. Depending on the type of account you have, the incoming server may either be a POP or IMAP server and this is more than likely where the issue is. You did find a good article for troubleshooting Mail on the iPad.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
If you have gone through all of these steps including deleting and re-adding the account as you say, I would verify the POP or IMAP settings with your provider and make sure they are correct. The following webpage is also a fantastic source for server information.
