My Powerbook 12" doesn't wake when I plug AC power

I always use my powerbook with lid closed when I am at home.
The issue is, as title described, when I plug AC power in,
my powerbook doesn't wake immediatly!
It used to, but now it's not!
The wakeup options in system preferences are only about wake on a modem ring or signal from ethernet, not about the AC power.
How can I turn this feature on?
Thanks!
Powerbook G4 12 1.33G   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The command "pmset" could solve this.
Type "man pmset" in terminal for usage of command pmset.

My new iPod Classic doesn't 'wake' when my docking station switches on (alarm setting).
My old iPod Classic never ever let me down, and I used it in the docking station every working day for two years.
But this new iPod Classic has let me down three times just this week!
    Any clues?

While the iPod is connected to your iTunes, look (in iTunes) on the Device/Podcasts pane (tab) and make sure the Sync Podcasts option has been selected (there should be a tick in the box).

You may have an incomplete iTunes installation.  Uninstall your iTunes and Re-install again.
If this still fails, try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Sound doesn't work when I plug in my monitor to HDMI port

I have a new HP Envy15laptop and an older AcerAC2016W with VGA connection.  I purchased a vga to hdmi adapte cable.  When I plug in my monitor, the sound shuts down.  If I unplug the monitor the laptop speakers work fine.

Hi,l I don't know which VGA to HDMI cable you are talking about but VGA does not carry sound and your machine may think it use HDMI sound therefore it shuts down sound with HDMI, if you wish to use sound from your computer you need to disable HDMI sound: Right click speakers icon > Select Play back devicesSelect use internal sound  and disable HDMI sound (if it was there) You have to enable it when use pure HDMI (ie from HDMI to HDMI TV for example) Regards.

    Hi,
Photos is probably better than iPhoto for personal images, BUT:
I need to make the new Photos app not open automatically every time I plug in an iPhone or iPad or camera into the computer.
I take a lot of photos for work and I import those through the Image Capture App which allows me to import photos into a specific set folder - not my photos folder.
In iPhoto>Preferences>General, set Image Capture as the default camera handler.

Also, related, how do I make iTunes not automatically open when I plug in the iphone/ipad.  I keep my music on one computer and not on my work computer, so it is annoying when I plug an iPhone or iPad into the work computer and it automatically opens iTunes.
In iTunes (with the device pugged in) Preferences, disable the 'Open iTunes when device is plugged in' option.

Finally, what happened to the delete function on the Image Capture app?  It was so easy - import a bunch of photos into a certain folder, then delete those photos off the device through Image Capture.

  • Powerbook sometimes doesn't wake up when it goes to sleep.

About 3 months ago I replaced the internal hard drive in my Aluminum 15" Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz. The install and replace went fine, and I'm very happy to have a 250 GB drive now instead of the old 80 GB one.
However. . . Ever since then I've had an intermittent problem. It doesn't happen every time; just once in a while. I'd say once out of every 10 times that the powerbook goes to sleep, I can't wake it up again. The screen remains black, and no activity can be heard coming from inside the machine. I know it's still on, because peripherals I have plugged into it are still lit up (where they don't light up when the machine is shut down). In order to get my computer up and running again, I have to hold the reset button for longer than 10 seconds. . . let it go. . . then push the reset button quickly, as you would when turning the machine on after it had been shut down. Just pushing the reset button once does nothing; I have to hold down the button to do a hard shut off, then turn the machine on again.
About half the time this problem occurs, there is only silence and a black screen. But the other half of the time I hear a high-pitched, soft, mechanical buzzing or grinding sound coming from inside the machine just as soon as the screen goes black for the machine to go to sleep. To be honest, it sounds like it's coming from the right side of the machine, where the Superdrive is. . . but it has only happened since after I did the HDD replacement, so it seems more likely to be related to the hard disk. When the noise happens, I also have to do a hard reset in order to restore the machine and get it to boot up.
So far, there has been no loss of important data or functionality as a result of this. (I back up frequently with Time Machine.) But it certainly does not seem like a good thing. I have purchased diskwarrior for other reasons, and I will probably use it to make sure the hard drive is healthy. But I was wondering if anyone here had experienced this before? It's a bit of a pain, as I don't like to have to shut down the computer every time I want to move from my office to a conference room, but the scary noise makes me hesitant to close the laptop (hence putting it to sleep) when it is on.
    When the noise

dgalvan: A word of caution: always be sure to unmount or "eject" your USB drive before disconnecting the hub from the Powerbook or the drive from the hub. If the drive has been unmounted and disconnected from the hub, the hub can be disconnected from the Powerbook without any further ceremony.
Disconnecting the drive (or turning it off, if it has a power switch) while it's still mounted on the desktop will mess up its directory, or worse.
I don't know whether the hub by itself (without the drive connected) might be capable of causing your sleep-related problem, or whether the drive must be connected to the hub and the hub to the Powerbook for the problem to arise. Experiment and see.
And of course I also don't know whether or not you have any other peripherals that might be involved.

  • My ipod doesn't show when i plug it into itunes

I just bought the new ipod nano and it was working fine when I got it. I tried plugging it in to charge it but it didn't show in my itunes or in my computer. I've done everything the website has told me to from reinstalling itunes to resetting my ipod. Nothing has worked. Any suggestions???

I noticed the same thing this weekend. I received an iPod nano for my birthday (August 25th), I've added songs, removed songs, etc for almost a month. However this weekend (right after updating to iTunes 7.4.2.4, my computer can no longer see my iPod, and iTunes doesn't see it either. When I perform a diagnostic, I get the "No IEEE 1394 Host Controller found". All my USB ports are working, and my computer's recognizing all my other USB devices.
Electrical power is obviously getting to my iPod through the USB port because it not only shows that it's charging, but the iPod's screen lights up whenever it's connected or disconnected. The computer just doesn't acknowledge it's presence (nor does iTunes). Another odd thing is that iPod will continue to play music as it's connected. Before (when things were working) it would stop playing music and display the "Do Not Disconnect" screen.
I saw a thread somewhere that suggested editing registries, but I'm going to hold off on that. I'm not as skilled in that area and I don't want to break anything.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the recent iTunes update? Everything was working fine until I upgraded to iTunes 7.4.2.4.

leave it after total charging ?
    thnaks for the help

There's no reason to remove the battery. The charger stops charging the battery once the battery is fully charged. Recharging won't occur until the battery's charge level drops below 95 percent. This protects the battery from constant recharging and from overcharging.
Removing the battery also results in the CPU automatically throttling down to half-speed.

  • IPad Air 2 Black Screen - Doesn't Wake?

I've had my iPad Air 2 for about a week.  On top of the WiFi issues, Safari issues, screen sensitivity issues, the biggest problem I seem to have is that every once in a while, the iPad will seem to just shut off (or lock up....not sure which).  But its not a normal shut off.
I won't have touched it or done anything with it.  It will be on, but when I click the home button....nothing.  It doesn't wake.  I hit the power button...nothing.  It just won't wake up.  The only thing that works is to hit both the home and power buttons at the same time, which then throws me to the Apple boot logo.  After that all is fine again.  Until of course it happens again, a day later or so.
I don't know how to reproduce this issue as it just happens randomly without my doing anything to the iPad.  In all instances the battery is well above 80%.  It has happened while plugged in and charging and also when it is not charging.
    I'm thinking I got a lemon...

    Hi,
Do you find a solution now?
My advice is to reset your devices. Usually, reset devices can solve some common issues.
First of all, try to restart it:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo
If that doesn't work, you can try to reset it.
If your iPad cannot turn on now, please reset it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If your iPad can turn on now, to solve some troubles on your devices, you can reset iPad by going to Settings>General>Reset>"Reset All Settings" or "Erase All Content and Settings".
You can choose to "Reset All Settings" first,  because it just erase all settings on iPad.
Choose "Erase All Content and Settings" is your last resort. It will restore your iPad to factory settings which means that all your data ans settings on iPad will be erased. Therefore, if you need to do this, please backup your iPad with iTunes or iCloud first.
    Hope these can help you.

  • Stop WMP10 from starting when I plug in Zen Visio

When I plug in my Zen Vision M, Windows Media Player 0 starts up and starts synchronizing. I want a totally different program to come up -- or NO PROGRAM AT ALL!?I can't find a way to do this with the zen. I went into WMP settings and said don't synchronize. It ignores me. I tried going to windows explorer and changing device properties, but that tab is not available.

OK, under Windows Media Player, SYNC SETTINGS, I found a menu that allows me to change syncing from automatic to manual. So now the syncing doesn't occur when I plug in the device. But Windows Media Player 0 STILL opens, and I don't want it to. I'd rather have nothing open, or else a program of my choosing. Just to be clear, here's a copy of my post at experts exchange:?*****When I plug in my Zen Vision M, Windows Media Player 0 opens. (For technical reasons I need to use WMP version 0, NOT or beyond.)
I want a totally different program to come up -- or NO PROGRAM AT ALL! -- when I plug in the zen player.
I can't find a way to do this with the zen. ?I went into WMP settings and said don't synchronize, which worked. ?But when I go into the device properties, there's no menu for choosing which program opens with the device. You don't get the usual menus under windows explorer. ?
In fact, the only way I can get to a device properties menu at all is to plug in the device, and then go to Zen Media Explorer (which is a shortcut / device under Windows Explorer). The device appears there as a sub-folder, and has a properties menu. But again, this menu doesn't allow for choosing which programs run when the device is plugged in.
I found a check box that said "show zen in windows explorer as portable device". I checked this and restarted explorer. But all the menus / choices for this are the same as for the above "Zen Media Explorer"
Likewise I looked under Dev Mgr properties -- there's a properties menu, but no where to choose which program runs when device is plugged in.
