My screen has a black "drippy" looking strip about three quarters of the way across the top, ranging from 1/2 to 1 cm thick.  Can't think of what possibly happened.  Thoughts?

I take my computer to work daily.  It is always transported in a padded case.  I take very good care of it (keyboard protector, proper case, etc.)
It is a 13" MacBook, new September 2010.
Thanks in advance for suggestions!

That's a weird one. Does the same thing occur if you boot to an install disk? Insert the install DVD that came with the computer and hold down the "C" key during startup. Same thing there? If so you have a hardware issue. Contact Apple at the appropriate phone number on this page or carry it in to an Apple retail store or authorized service provider.
