My time capsule just stopped and the power light is off.  i checked and there is power going to it.

I noticed that I could not get on to the internet as it said there was no internet connection.  A look at my time capsule showed no green or yellow light.  I do have a good internet connection and there is good power to the unit.  It just died.  it is about 1.5 years old.  Thoughts?

It is now dead.. thanks to Apple's poor heat venting design.
Leave it disconnected for a few hours to cool off and it may restart.. in which case be ready to drag any data off it you need.
Otherwise you need to get it repaired. apple won't do this.. but I have a bunch of repairers who do.

If you have apple care on any computer, Apple will replace it for you. up to 3years old.
There are many posts on the problem, both here and world wide. Just google.

  • HT2284 My Time Capsule just stopped working.

Thank you in advance for any help. My Time Capsule just stopped working and I do not get the 'Connection Failed' error message as the Time Capsule is not showing up in the finder window. The light continues to flash amber on the Time Capsule. I am using it with my iMac running Lion. Any help will be really appreciated.

This is just typical Lion.. reboot the TC.. if that doesn't work.. reboot the whole network from fully off.. in order.. modem.. router/TC.. clients. 2min gap between each.
If still has issues.. press reset on the TC and redo it.
Download a utility that has tool properties..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Just ignore the toyland version in Lion.
Next time it happens go to disk page in the utility and hit disconnect all users..
C12 and C17 can suggest some other things.

Can't seem to finish a movie on AppleTV.  It just stops in the middle of movie and returns to menu.  Try to check for rentals under settings like it says to when we try and download movie again and all I get is a spinning wheel.  At least the second this has happened in the middle of a movie.  Beginning to think AppleTV is junk!

  • My Time Capsule is Working but the Yellow Light is Blinking

My Time Capsule backs up wirelessly fine but it just started blinking the yellow light.
I performed a back up and it went smoothly but the light still blinks.
What do I do to stop it or is it there a problem?

See #A2 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum). Also see #D4 there.
I'm having a similar problem as the original poster; 4 computers and one server backup to the Time Capsule and the drive is full -- but there doesn't seem to be any way to recover from this impasse other than nuking the entire backup and starting over from scratch!
See #D2 in Troubleshooting. If the backups actually fail, see #C2 there.
That sounds like a lot of data backing-up to one Time Capsule. What's the total being backed-up from each Mac, and the size of the TC? Time Machine usually needs 2-3 times the space of the data it's backing-up.
Isn't there a way to just throw out the oldest files and keep going?
Ordinarily, Time Machine will do just that, as long as you don't have the +Warn when old backups are deleted+ box checked in Time Machine Preferences > Options.

I have an external hard drive that I used with my mini mac.  I want to use it on my MacBookPro.  I plugged it in found it on my computer, it flashes seemed okay until it tipped over and came unplugged to  the computer.  I set it back up turned it on and the grren light sometimes flashes.  I read an article that said I needed to format the drive, I followed instructions and did that.  I will download tomorrow my pictures.
    Question
How do I know if this is working
does it record everything on your computer?
How do I see what is there?  on the drive

it may be very basic but I still don't get it,   the instructions are basic too so I'm sure I'm missing some thing here.i don't know how to copy  data and copy it back
I don't see any indicaters  to do so.  I'll try again, , it's on a laptop and I don't want it connected all the time, just to secure some images.
    how  do i copyu...
maybe I'll try a 'zip' drive instead?? But I don't understand them either, hard to be a dunce.
and by the way, my computer has been freezing up on me lately had to turn it off and on, what have i done to it!!
I just connected it again and it shows as a number22but nothing happens when I click on it...shouldn't something happen here? It seems to be empty as well as it should since I followed instructions on formatting.  so what now?

  • My time capsule just stopped working

I just p[urchased the unit last weee, was able to partly set it up then it just stopped working

By stopped working do you mean the front LED is off?
When you boot it do any LED even flash??
Have you tried a factory reset?
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
No luck then the TC is faulty and has to go back to Apple for replacement.

  • Time Capsule freezes network when the Internet is turned off...

MB Pro late 2008, 500GB TC, ATV
Living in a shared house, my TC is connected to the internet via Ethernet to a modem in another room. The wireless network works great and has no problems at all... until the modem in the other room gets turned off each night (out of my control).
45minutes to an hour later the entire network freezes... It also causes Finder on the MB Pro to freeze. This freeze can last up to 10 minutes, sometimes the only resolution being to force quit Finder. When everything starts working again, the previously full wireless signal shows as empty with an exclamation mark showing that there is no internet connectivity.
I've heard that switching network configurations can cause MBPs to freeze...
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Or have a fix?
    Cheers,
    Bryn

You mention - "also, my PSP always detects the wireless network incorrectly. i gave the network WPA(TKIP) security, but the PSP detects it as WEP and therefore can't connect at all."
I don't own a PSP nor do I know anyone who does so I really don't know, but does the PSP support WPA?  If not then that would be your problem there.  It's looking for a WEP key and your router is broadcasting WPA.

  • I tried installing Yosemite from 10.6.8 and the install failed. Ran a check and disk needs repai but "repair disk" isn't an option (greyed out). Can't start up under old 10.6.8 because it says "could not gather enough information." Help, please!

    startup disk fail

Not lame at all. It's annoying that in order to salvage a disk the "official" way is reformat it. It's just a lack of documentation.
Diskwarrior is actually a software from Alsoft. www.alsoft.com
It's been around for ages and usually it's the last resort when everything else failes.
If you don't have the software, you could try one option.
Restart the malfunctioning computer and press T when you hear the startup sound. This will start the computer in transfer mode. You will see a huge firewire icon on the screen that just floats there.
Connect the computer to a healthy mac with a firewire cable and it should appear as a HD, just as an external hard drive would. (don't worry if it doesn´t)
Open Disk utility and in the left pane the malfunctioned Hard drive should appear. Run disk repair on the HD if possible. Once the repair disk has finished, with our without errors, open a new finder window and select the external hard drive.
You could backup the data on the Drive at this stage onto the healthy computer... just to be safe.
On the root of the Malfunctioned Disk there should be a folder named "OS X install data" or something like that. Basically something that normally would not be there...
    Delete that folder.
Run Disk repair once again in Disk Utility. If successful, reboot the machine and see what happens.
If that does not work at all, then perhaps you should consider purchasing Disk Warrior. Run the same process as before, connecting the malfunctioning mac via firefire, but this time run Diskwarrior on the healthy machine, locate the malfunctioning HD and select Rebuild for that Hard drive. It will take a little while but once its done processing it will ask you if you want to copy the new build, select yes. That did it for me at least.
I hope that helps. You could check the app store or search online for software that is similar to Diskwarrior, there's probably some app that does the same thing. The only reason I used Diskwarrior is it has proven a good utility for Mac breakdowns and I've used (rarely though) it for years.

  • HT3964 what if the battery is not charging and the LED light is off, what should I do

Should I buy a new adaptor?

You charger could be bad...do you have another one to test? You can try resetting your SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't work, & you don't have another charger to try, make an appointment at an Apple store. Take both computer & charger.

I have an external hard drive from my time capsule that stopped working on me. I am attempting to access the data with a hard drive reader on my MAC. I am able to see the drive in disk utility and under system info USB. But I am unable to access the data and it does not show on the desktop when connected.

Ok if disk utility was able to verify the drive I doubt there is any problem.. are you trying to open a TM backup??
You need to mount the sparsebundle then check the actual info inside the bundle.
Don't use disk warrior.. if the disk has verified then unless you deliberately deleted files there is nothing that is going to do.
Pondini has a lot of stuff about getting access to the sparsebundle.
    http://pondini.org/TM/17.html
But if you have copied info to the TC that is now gone.. and the disk is ok.. I am not sure.. the TC will not have deleted the files itself.

  • Time Capsule - Can it run as DHCP router, create a wireless network and plug into switch for wired network all at the same time?

I have a closet with Wired connections from all over the house terminating in it. I also have the internet modem and a switch in this closet. My old setup was a netgear in the closet creating a wireless network and also feeding the Ethernet ports all over the house. In my room, I had an Airport express (a month old) bridging the wifi to make the wifi network larger. The Express was hard wired from the wall and my mac mini was using it's wifi (printer was plugged into other ethernet port). Everything was working great.
Fast forward to last week. My Netgear died. So, I bought a time capsule. My plan was to move the Express to the closet and have it create the wifi network and also then run cat 5 cord from express to the switch to feed all the wired wall plugs. Reset it and set it up to create the wifi network as well as DCHP NAT. Wireless was running great on it. Then I plugged in the Cat 5 in the second Ethernet Port to the switch. Wifi stopped working and none of the computers would connect using wired connections either. They would see a 'network' but nothing would work. I would unplug the Cat 5 feeding the swtich and the wireless would start working again. Plug the Cat 5 back in and wireless would stop.
So I thought I would try the Time Capsule in the closet and see if I could get it to work. Pretty much the same thing, except at this point I figured out if I went in and told it NOT to create a wifi network the wired portion worked fine and all the wired computers in the house worked fine. Of course, then I didn't have Wifi.
I'm not clueless when it comes to networking, but I can NOT figure this out! Can either the Time Capsule or Express Create the wifi network AND also feed the data to the switch for all the wired computers?
To simplify this is what I want my end result to be. I prefer the Time Capsule to be the wireless connection extender, but if I have to have the Express do it, I'm fine with that.
    1. Express in the closet creating the wifi network as well as feeding the data to the wired connections via my switch.
    2. have the Time capsule in my room at the opposite end of the house plugged into the hard wired connection to extend the wrieless network as well as have wired connections such as my printer and my Mac Mini.
If I can get #1 to work, I don't think I'll have any problems with #2. Help!

I have an equally complex setup with a managed switch actually but I have never seen the TC have this kind of issue.
What I do notice is you have changed the TC from defaults.. you are using a non-default IP range.
I have run across issues like this where people move things from default.
I would like you to start over.. factory reset the TC. That will set it back to default router mode.
Do the min setup on the TC..
    1. Change all names from what you were using. That includes the TC name and wireless name/s
Make them short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric because that is the correct way to network. Apple default names with spaces and apostrophes are fundamentally bad.
    2. With just the TC plugged into the switch.. and a single computer connected by ethernet. Power cycle the whole network.. this allows the switch to clear all the old MAC address.
    3. Test on the computer just ethernet. Turn the wireless off.
The computer must use dhcp and must get an ip from the TC.
It has to get the correct Router.. ie Gateway.. I wish apple could stick with proper network terminology.
And it must get same address or valid DNS server address/es.
If it fails.. please plug ethernet directly to the TC.. bypassing the switch.
You should get the standard IP addressing and internet connection.
If not please post the screenshot from the Mac of the network preferences showing the ethernet setup.
I need to see what address it does get. I need you to make sure the ethernet is the TOP of the list. So rearrange the order of network connection. With the airport off it should just go to the top of the list.
If it appears to be working .. but a browser cannot connect, open a terminal and ping an internet address.
Ping the actual gateway address the ISP gives you and ping the ISP dns address.

  • My Time Capsule doesn't want to (hard nor soft) reset, and the status light keeps flashing quickly.

About two weeks ago, my Time Capsule's status light was flashing rapidly orange/green simultaneously.
    Unplugging the power supply worked.
However, now this trick doesn't work anymore, and a soft nor hard reset of the Time Capsule doesn't work either.
The Time Capsule can't reset anymore, doesn't send out WiFi-signals, and its status light keeps flashing rapidly green/orange simultaneously.
    Thanks for your support.
    Zander.

What model is the TC? Please give the number from the base, A1xxx.
It sounds like the reset has been forced in and is not releasing. I think whatever the problem is you will have a hard time fixing it.. it will need replacement .. it is just a question of what is possible and that depends on its age and model.

I have an Apple Time Capsule which backs up by wireless. For the last 3 days it has not backed up. I get this message:
"The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk."
I have gone into Mac Help and followed this down to stage 4:
under shared it lists my time capsule and my husband's iMac - both use the time machine but we have switched his off temporarily.  Clicking on my Time capsule I get "Connected" and "Sharepoint" - I didn't have to enter connect or password
I don't understand stage 5: how and where do I select the disk or volume that contains Time Machine backups ?  How do I know which it is? My disk utility lists 160.04 TOSHIBA MK... with sub-heading Macintosh HD.  It also lists (with a "CD" icon) HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS22N
Under stage 6, how and where do I Locate your backup ? I try dragging my Time capsule from Finder to the Disk Utility side panel but it won't go.  What is my computer's name?
Please someone help!  I'm completely stumped.
    Thanks,

    Mac Help says:
If you back up to a Time Capsule or network disk:
Open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, and slide the switch to Off.
    Open Time Machine preferences
Open Disk Utility, which is in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
    Open Disk Utility
Make sure the Time Capsule or network disk is turned on and available.
Open a Finder window, select your Time Capsule or network disk in the Shared section of the sidebar, and click Connect. If necessary, enter your user name and password.
On the Time Capsule or network disk, select the disk or volume that contains Time Machine backups. Depending on how your Time Capsule is set up, there may be one or more disks or volumes.
Locate your backup, and drag it to the Disk Utility sidebar. You can identify your backup by looking for your computer’s name in the backup’s filename.
