My USB Superdrive is no longer recognised what do I do?

I recently purchased a USB Superdrive with a new Macbook Air. I have used it twice and now it is no longer recognised by my laptop, so I can't use it.
Someone said this might have something to do with settings in Lion, and that an update may have been the problem.
Would anyone know how to fix this??

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

I updated to 10.6.3 last night, looking forward to the "improve the reliability of 3rd party USB input devices".
I have 2 external sound cards (for MP3 mixing), and now nether of them are recognized when I plug them in. I tried reinstalling the drivers from the manufactures site to no avail.
For the record, they are EKS XP10s ... so anyone else thinking of upgrading beware. If I ever figure out a fix I'll post here .... if anyone can give me a steer in the right direction ... I'll buy you a beer.

I had a similar problem with my "HiFi Link" USB Audio device after upgrading to 10.6.3 (Combo). I eventually got it to work after various disconnections & restarts, but it presented as "Unknown USB Audio Device". After reading a similar thread (Carson Gaspar, Mar 30), I tried changing the USB connection from a keyboard port to a main port on the IMac - at first, the device disappeared altogether but, after another restart, there it was, working & correctly identified at last! A shame Apple highlighted the USB compatibility because it seems to be one of the things that 10.6.3 has screwed up!

If you just bought the iMac and the Sjuperdrive take the superdrive back and get a refund. The by any other brand external DVD drive that connects by USB and try that. Most come with a Y USB cable to allow you to connect to 2 USB ports to supply enogh power to the drive IF Needed.
Or take both back and get a refund on both, you have 14 days to return it no questions asked, and buy another iMac and some other brand external DVD drive.

maybe try cleaning out the port at the bottom of your iphone by blowing it out with compressed air or maybe by using a soft brush. or maybe gently with a toothpick. but nothing metal. perhaps there's dirt or dust in there that's preventing a connection. similarly make sure the connectors on your docks and cables are clean.

You can't downgrade the iOS on the iPad.
Quit iTunes, reboot the Mac and reboot the iPad and then try again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

I don't use so many disks nowadays but when we do, I really only try to make sure they are a recognised brand (Phillips, Maxwell, TDK etc etc), technology has moved on from having to worry about which you use. I would avoid brands you've never heard of though.

USB device no longer recognised

I have a GoPro which was working fine on the Apple, I connected it to my sons Windows computer to edit some video, now when I plug it in to the apple it is not showing anywhere! Likewise the external hard drive I used on his computer to transfer the files is no longer recognised on the Apple.
I must be missing something? They are still there showing on the Windows computer.

Laptop no longer recognises 6700 Classic vis USB

Hi since the latest Ovi update my phone is no longer recognised or charges via USB. I have tried
a different cable
re-installing drivers
just charging after uninstalling Ovi
re-installing Ovi
When I connect, the USB icon on the flashes a few times but then nothing.
I have even tried on another machine, nothing.
Any ideas appreciated.

I have followed the instructions on the apple support pages and still cannot get my phone to work. It continues to show the iTunes USB picture and is not recognised on my iTunes on the windows PC. When I connect the phone to my iMac it shows no data and says I can restore to factory setting. However if I do this will all my data be erased? How do I get my phone and data back? I have saved most of the photos that were on the phone but all my contact details and messages are stored and I really need to get them back! Would have limited memory on the phone when trying to update caused this problem?

Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data. Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!

yeah-a few. repair permissions, do a SMU reset, click on the sound on the top of your screen while holding down the option key. that should bring up a list of all sound inputs and outputs . Also, mess around with Audio MIDI (it's there somewhere). Something might have gotten messed up or set incorrectly.

You need an app like Toast by Roxio (http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/default.html). You would use Toast to burn the videos to a DVD-R disc.

Ipod touch generation 5. Disabled, no luck restoring and is no longer recognised.

Kids disabled it, I have tried restoring but it made me download an update first by which point it decided my Ipod was no longer recognised by my computer and still won't recognise it. I tried turning it off, then connected the usb, held down the power button for 3 seconds, then at the same time held the home button for whoever many seconds, then let go of the power button and continued holding the home button for whoever long it told me too in the info I managed to find online. Any other advice please?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. Try a couple of times since timing is critical. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Try another cable
Try on another computer
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
