My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter.

My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter. I also tried the HDMI to DVI adapter ane the Mac-Mini with same result. The monitor does work on my older Macbook Pro that has the DVI connector. Is it a Software/Driver issue ?

Should be extremely simple, please carefully read Connect multiple displays to your Mac. If you still have problems then it's probably a cable issue that would be resolved by replacing the adapter cable. You should be using this adapter. If you are using a third party adapter that might be your problem!

  • I want to use my Personal Laserwriter, but it won't work with my imac

I have a personal laserwriter printer. It work great with my older mac - Performa 580CD. However when I tried setting it up with my imac - using a MacOS 9.X driver and usb-serial adaptor - it only works with OS 9.x softeware.
So I have a laser printer that I cannot use. I'd like to get it up and running for my MacBoo Pro, too. Any advice?

The personal LaserWriter NTR and the Personal LaserWriter 320 are Postscript level 2 printers that can run with the built-in Mac OS X Drivers.
What is missing is a way to make the connection to recent machines that do not have a Printer/Modem/LocalTalk port. You can use the Mac's Ethernet port to carry AppleTalk packets (in addition to the standard TCP/IP packets) and use a converter to bridge from Ethernet to LocalTalk.
Two converters are available on the used market: The Farallon EtherMac iPrint LT and the Asante Asantetalk. The Asante may also be available new, but at a cost near US$100 new, you could get a more capable used Ethernet-capable printer for the same money.
If you have an older Mac that has a Printer/Modem/LocalTalk port and an Ethernet port and is still running OS 9 or earlier, you can download a package called LocalTalk Bridge to run in the background and do the conversion.
The other Personal LaserWriters would require a bridge AND a third-party driver.

  • Dell E176FP monitor won't work with os 9.2

    Hi
I bought a dell 17 inch E176FP monitor but there is no display with my powermac g4 running os 9.2 It works fine when I plug it into my Dell inspiron laptop (awful product) and a smaller viewsonic model works fine with my G4. I've done a factory reset on the dell monitor when it was plugged into my laptop but that wasn't any help. On the mac, the os 9.2 screen comes up briefly, then all goes black and the monitor goes into standby mode. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks.

the os 9.2 screen comes up briefly ...
Then the display card, display, and cable are all working.
Only the settings used by the running system (substituted for the defaults once the system is initialized) are messed up.
Boot to a System/Install CD if you have one, and discard the Hard Drive's
System Folder > Preferences > Display Preferences (or Monitors Preferences or similar preference files).
These should be re-created next time you use the Control Panel, and the settings will be the defaults and you can proceed in a sensible way from there.

  • Hyundai LCD monitor won't work with OS9

New Hyundai LCD monitor -dual input. Works fine with Windows XP, & with OS 10 but when I boot into OS9 the screen goes black, & the screen's menu button won't work. Have started os9 in safe mode but cannot find how to change the display/resolution/refresh settings. Where do I look to change these settings? And what settings should I try?

  • Printer won't work with either computer on the wireless network

Yesterday I went to the HP website and downloaded the rcommended drivers associated with my Win 7 computer and Officejet 7310 printer.  Ever since I can't print at all.  My other laptop connected to the network (Win Vista) won't print either.  My computer indicates that my printer is offline.  How do I get these devices talking to one another again

Download and run this diagnostic, it should tell us what is going on.
The IP address looks right for the printer.  The DNS server and gateway (router IP address) are often the same at x.x.x.1
I suspect a firewall issue, but let's see what the diagnostic tells us.

  • Does the Bone tool work with strokes created using the pencil or line tools?

I have a working bone rig in a document(CS4) that I created using a SINGLE pencil stroke, and applying the armature to it.  Object drawing was off and it was a single piece with no part being a  symbol.  This was accomplished TWICE for two stick figure arms.
However, when I tried the same thing in a new document, I couldn't apply bone to the pencil stroke or the line stroke.  After going back into the earlier document(where it was still functional) I tried creating a new armature using the exact same technique.  But this time Flash wouldn't allow it.
Having failed every additional attempt, I'm wondering if Flash may have glitched somehow the first time, allowing this to work when, typically, it doesn't.  Or could I have possibly missed a step somewhere that caused it to fail each attempt at a recreation.

I agree, it is sometimes difficult to click the sweet spot. Here are 3 suggestions:
Pay close attention to the cursor icon. It will change when you're over an anchor or direction point.
Try turning on "Smart Guides". They can be a nuisance, but sometimes they're helpful.
Use the "Convert Buttons" on the Options bar. They may take a bit longer but they're full-proof, plus, you can convert or delete multiple selected points simultaneously using this method.

  • The touchscreen won't work - I can't use the slider to unlock.

    Any suggestions?

pay them $30 and there's no guarantee of anything
Your warranty is 1 year, but unless you get AppleCare for your touch, you only something like 3 months of telephone support. (After the 3 months, phone support is $30) AppleCare will double your warranty to 2 years and also give you 2 years of telephone support.
Without AppleCare, you can still bring your touch into an Apple Store to have them look at it.

  • Monitor won't work via mini-dvi to dvi adapter

It's a brand spanking new mac mini. I attached a 5 year old lcd monitor (always used before as VGA) using the mini-dvi to dvi adapter. I am using the monitor's dvi connector. The monitor resolution is 1280x1024.
The monitor does not work when using the mini-dvi to dvi adapter. If I remove the mini-dvi adapter and use a mini displayport to dvi adapter, it works just fine. I can keep both adapters plugged in and plug the cable into one or the other. It always works instantly when attached to the minidisplay port and doesn't work if I switch to the mini-dvi port.
I've tried the display with mini-dvi adapter on my macbook too. On the laptop, it acts like there are two screens attached, but there is no action on the external display.
As a further test, I attached the mac mini to the TV via a mini-dvi to hdmi adapter. The mini-dvi port on the mini works fine, as does the port on the laptop. The monitor works fine via minidisplay, but not mini-dvi.
Naturally, I concluded that the mini-dvi adapter was faulty. A second adapter came today, and nothing has changed. Could I have received two Apple mini-dvi adapters in a row with problems? Is there something about the monitor that doesn't like the mini-dvi port? It seems like it wouldn't like the minidisplay port either, but that one is fine.

    • Went to Best Buy
    • Paid for a DYNEX Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter ($25)
    • Came home and plugged in the adapter then the HDMI to DVI cable to the monitor. (Note: Monitor is a LG Flatron L22WTG) - DID NOT WORK
    • iMac knows monitor is plugged in and I can change the resolution on both monitors and mirror. (Note: Changed to every resolutions with/without mirror image.) - DID NOT WORK
    • Restarted computer - DID NOT WORK
    • Turned off/on LG monitor many times - DID NOT WORK
    • Unplugged/plugged back in many different ways - DID NOT WORK
    • Changed the HDMI to DVI cable with a better cable - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed BootCamp with Windows 7 - *BOTH WORK 100%*
    • Rebooted to OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) - DID NOT WORK
    • Installed Windows XP - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Reinstalled OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard) - *BOTH WORKED 100%*
    • Updated OS X from 10.6.4 to 10.6.7 - DID NOT WORK
Seems to be a driver problem with the new update (10.6.7). I will not update again till drivers are fixed.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.

  • Trouble with 30" HD Cinema Display using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter

I bought a new MacBook Pro and I am having trouble getting the full resolution to work with my 30" HD Cinema Display (purchased in 2007 max resolution 2560 x 1600) using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter.
According to the specs page, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP581 , the max resolution of the HD external display is supported. Unfortunately the max that I can set it to is: 1280 x 800
Has anyone else had the same issue?
If this isn't resolved I'm likely going to exchange my MacBook Pro for one that can support this display.

So I went and bought the Mini DisplayPort To Dual-Link DVI Adapter as suggested and it seems to work great.
Now the problem that I have is when I open up Apple's DVD player, the screen is blank but I can still hear audio.
If I unplug the display, the movie will display properly. Rebooting with the display plugged in doesn't help either. I also deleted all the DVD players enc setting files so that they would re-initialize but no luck.
Any idea what this problem might be??

I know it's going to be something annoyingly obvious, BUT, how do I get my iPod to talk with my iMac using FaceTime? Both appear to work just fine with other emails, have made calls out to others using email addresses with both the iPod and the iMac. Have recieved calls from others on both iPod and iMac using phone numbers and email addresses. Just can't call my self as it were. Both the iPod and the iMac use the same email address, is this my problem? How do I get it work? (it's for my daughter so she can talk and see her mother when she under goes cancer treatment).

Yes, having the same FT calling email address is the problem. It like trying to make a phone call to your your phone from your phone.
On one device add another email address for FT and then uncheck or delete the Apple ID email address the Apple ID call email adddress on the device.
On the iPod go to SettingsFaceTime>You can be Reached At

  • I would like to update to Firefox 5.0.1, but I can't due to, too many things won't work with the version & will be disabled.

I have wanted to update from 3.6.22, to 5.0.1, but can't do to the following reasons: I can't due to, too many things won't work with the version & will be disabled. They are: Microsoft. NET Framework Assistant 1.2.1, Iconix 3.90.1, HP Detect 1.0.5.1, Yahoo! Toolbar 2.3.5.201101200332202 (I don't care about Yahoo! Toolbar, because I don't use it!). As soon as these issues are fixed, I will be able to update, to the latest versions. These issues should be fixed & ready to work, before a new version is available. Thank you!
