My wifi keep disconnecting on Macbook OS X 10.9.2 ?

the wifi is all good on other devices except on my mac, the wifi disconnects ever few minutes, is there anything i could do to fix this?

Hello Kat98,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend following the steps in the section labeled "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

  • Wifi keeps disconnecting on MacBook Pro

While my ipad, iphone, and apple tv maintain a consistent wifi connection, my macbook pro has recently been disconnecting every few minutes.  Has anyone experienced a simlar issue or have any ideas on a fix?  The network is password protected and doesnt seem to be causing any problems with other devices.  If I hardwire the notebook, there are no problems.

    Hello rpaolino,
I would reommend taking a look at some of the troubleshooting steps included in the article below.

  • WiFi keeps disconnecting in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on Macbook Pro

I have an early i7 2011 Macbook Pro. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 my WiFi keeps disconnecting. There isn't a certain time it disconnects - sometimes it works fine for a few hours, sometimes for just 10 minutes. When the connection is lost, it shows that its connected in the taskbar at the top, however when going into network preferences it shows the WiFi as turned off. In order to turn it back on I need to restart the Mac.
    I have tried the following:
    reset SMC
    delete network preferences
    create new network connection
    add DNS servers
    Add manual MTU
Require password to turn on/off WiFi / change network (still disconnects!)
    Change order of preferred networks
I phoned Apple Care who told me to delete the network preferences, this worked for about 5 mins and then the problem returned!
I cannot change the router settings as I connect to my employers network. All other employees using Window machines are working fine and my iPhone connects perfectly fine also.
Somebody please help me! I feel my only option now would to do a clean install - not ideal! Apple, please HELP.
    Merry Christmas everyone.

Hi - I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro mid 2010 which drops the wifi connection randomly (not necessarily when I move it or the lid - see other posts on this) and then often ends up freezing when I try to investigate.
I installed Mavericks to see if that would resolve the issue but it doesn't.
Somebody in one of these posts suggested it might be a faulty connection between airport card and mother board... which I suppose could be caused by a jolt to the machine (mine travels as hand luggage on planes every now and then).
    I am running OS X 10.9 on a 13 inch Mid 2010 MBP with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB 1067MHz DDR3 memory.
If anyone comes up with an answer to this PLEASE post it here so that we can all resolve our wifi dropping/freezing issues!
    Thanks

  • TS1398 Hi. My wifi keeps disconnecting. I kkep turning the wifi on and off in settings but will disconnect again after a minute or so. I use an ipad2 and my ios is updated. How to troubleshoot? - kay peralta

Hi. My wifi keeps disconnecting. I keep turning the wifi on and off in settings but will disconnect again after a minute or so. I use an ipad2 and my ios is updated. How to troubleshoot? - kay peralta

Is this happening with one particular network or with all?  Make sure iOS is updated on the device.
    Try this:
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go. Then try to connect to network.
Go to settings, Toggle airplane mode on/off. Make sure bluetooth is off. Turn on wif (airplane mode off). Try to connect.
    Reset Network Settings
Go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Then try to connect to network.
If its your home router, then reboot router by unplugging for 5-10min. (do this while you're resetting network settings).
If problem persists, then check for firmware updates on your router.(you check router manufacturer support website for downloads and instructions).

Same problem here. It just keeps connecting/disconnecting indefinitely. This does not started immediately after IO7 upgrade and it does not happen all the time. Sometimes it does it, sometimes not. Very frustrating. So far no solution found.

  • Why does the wifi keep disconnecting on the Macbook Air (Bought September 2013) ?

Is this only my MacBook Air, or is it with everyones. The wifi keeps getting disconnected and i would have to switch off and then switch on the wifi in order to reconnect.

    Hi Ettedos,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing unexpected behavior on your MacBook Air.
I'd recommend starting with the Wireless Diagnostic built into Mavericks:
OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 or later
Use the Wireless Diagnostics application included with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 and later to identify and resolve Wi-Fi issues. For further information, please see About Wireless Diagnostics.

  • My Mid 2010 MacBook Pro wifi keeps disconnecting, and doesn't turn back on. Help.

    *Mountain Lion 10.8.2*
    Here's what's happening:
I'll be browsing the internet probably surfing reddit (because what else do college kids do right?) and I'll click one of the links I'm interested in:
The page won't load at all, as if I have NO internet connection.
Click the wifi icon in the status bar. Before several networks (not just my current network) would show up. Now ONLY the network I'm currently connected to shows up.
Turn off the wifi to try to "refresh" it.
Turn Wifi back on. Now it will say "Searching for network" and show that I'm connected to a network, but the bars never fill the status bar icon. If I go to System Preferences > Network and try to turn on the wifi there it lets me click the button, but nothing happens.
Get frustrated that the wifi WILL NOT TURN BACK ON and restart computer
Start browsing the internet again or doing whatever college students do on the internet until it disconnects again.
    See 1
What I've done to try to aleviate this:
Made a genius bar apointment. I'm out of warrenty, but he did confirm for me that my wifi card is working as expected, and it's not a hardware issue, but more than probable a software issue. He did some cool trick where he went to Library>Preferences>System Configurations and deleted the entire contents (I think this is where the network information is stored according to some of the plists I looked through) then restarted the machine and everything seemed to work ok for a while, but the problem came back. I actually still do this sometimes when it happens but results seem to be the same every time (Plus I have to re enter network information when I do this).
Genius bar guy suggested that I try reinstalling Mountain Lion. Didn't want to get rid of my data, so I just did an install over my current build. This took some time, but it seemed to work for a while, but alas the problem came back.
Genius bar guy suggested (as a last resort) a fresh install. So That's what I did. I backed up my computer (Really I just coppied my documents folder and music folder to an external. I did not use a time machine back up because "ain't nobody got time for dat") and I then formatted my hard drive (Which is an SSD if that may have anything to do with anything), and installed mountain lion again. For a while things seemed good, but the problem came back.
    For clarification:
It has happened on multiple networks, not just the same network.
On top of that, every time it happens I have other devices connected to the same network and they work fine.
It has not always happened, this recently started about 2 weeks ago.
I have not recently installed any software that could have possibley done this (I use mostly MAS store stuff with the exception of Bartender, TotalFinder, and xQuarts, but all 3 of those had long been installed before I had to format my machine)
I can't really force the problem, but it seems to happen sometimes after the machine falls asleep, but I know for a fact it's also happened mid use (as described above)
Can anyone give me any kind of clue as to what is happening, why, and how I can fix it?

Years of fine internet use via WIFI then randomly it starts dropping then one day (weeks later) it is no longer accessible at all and even saying "No hardware installed" when I click on WIFI icon at the top right on screen. Here is how I finally fixed it!:
For six months I wallowed in this problem and had to connect my macbook pro to the internet via ethernet cable which as you can image was very restrictive :/
I have had numerous laptop technicans befuddled by this WIFI problem and most concluding with how my WIFI card must be broken and that I will need to buy a new one. The last suggestion I had on the matter was to buy a USB wifi dongle.
So I ended up buying this one, http://www.asus.com/nz/Networking/USBN10_NANO/Unfortunately my macbook pro didn't want to read the install disc and it didn't autorun so it didn't work. After reading more forums I saw that you could download the program from the net and sure enough it worked.. BUT STRANGER when I took the USB dongle out the WIFI was still working!! The program appears to have reminded my four year old macbook pro that it is indeed WIFI capable.
So to find this miraculous program its located herehttp://www.asus.com/nz/Networking/USBN10_NANO/HelpDesk_Download/
Same link as above just under SUPPORT>Driver&Tools
You then click on a file when its downloaded and a file called MAC will appear, then click on install. Within 5 minutes you should have your WIFI back. My macbook pro crashed again today but without having to get the shortest ethernet cable you've ever seen out again - I was able to install the program again and WIFI was up and running once more. Moral of the story - didn't need to spend any money to fix this and not even using the USB dongle.
So happy!! Hope it works for you too!
This also worked on a MacBook that lost its WIFI when a user accounts password was changed and the keychain password wasn't known to them - another random way to lose WIFI apparently

  • Wifi keeps disconnecting, only at work

I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" and at work it keeps disconnecting from the router. I've tried a lot to try to fix it and there are certain conditions that apply (none of the fixes work):
This ONLY happens at work and ONLY with my computer. There are also two Macbook Air, one Macbook Pro Retina, a bunch of PC's, tablets and phones connecting to it, but ONLY I get disconnected. I've tried maintaining a connection with around 10-15 other networks and they all work flawlessly.
There are several wifi spots around.
It disconnects randomly, at times it gets worse around lunch time. It can be 10 times in an hour, then stable for two hours, then one disconnect.
    I've tried several router channels.
    I have a DIR-655 D-link.
Held Shift+Command+Alt and clicked the power button at startup.
Deleted all other wifispots, the only one is the work one. Tried deleting it and added it again.
Deleted several .plist files, don't remember which ones but Googled and tried it.
    Fixed permissions.
    Used Onyx (before Maverick update).
    Added a network location.
Updated proxys to Google's public ones (8.8.8.8).
    Changed MTU.
    Restarted computer.
    No heavy load.
I've done several changes to the router, none have worked. There's so many I cannot write it down here.
It's NOT WEP, it's WPA2 Personal encryption, something we must maintain since it's secret material being broadcasted.
Everything on my computer is updated to the latest version.
No sleep mode is activated once connected to a power source. Only screen after 15 minutes.
Changing router might work, but that might take a while since the bosses need to approve the purchase.
If I disconnect Airport and then connects again it will work until it randomly disconnects again.
None of my iPad or iPhone disconnects.
It disconnects about 10-100 times daily.
I'm currently trying to ping the router constantly in a hidden terminal window. Hopefully it works even though it ***** as a solution.
That's all I can remember right now... I've tried a lot more without result. But if a suggestions arises I'll let you know if I've tried it before.
Can it be some interference? The microwave isn't on. I have a monitor, external harddrive, Wacom Intuos 5, iPad and an iPhone close to the computer. None of these matter on other spots. None of my co-workers have the same problem. The exact same problem happened in OSX Mountain Lion so it isn't Maverick specific, but I write here because I have no clue where else to put it.
I reason like this: it can't be a hardware malfunction since it doesn't happen anywhere else, it can't be the router either since my co-workers doesn't have the same issue. There's no heavy load since I basically just browse, but I do have Dropbox (I've tried limiting the bandwidth, didn't work) and a NAS and I am a designer so my files are rather large. So, my theory is that there's some sort of load that disconnects me from the router. No other here uses files even close to the size of mines so that is the only unique thing I can come up with, that and my placement. But we are in a big room together so the person of 7 that is furthest away from me is 3 meters. Is there a way to restrict the network load the Macbook uses? Like a cap. I've had this problem with routers before that just overloads routers.
So... any help is very appreciated. It's a drag working like this.
    M.

iMac 2011, the same WiFi disconnections problems after Mavericks installation.
I've installed Mavericks on another disk and now I have WiFi disconnections every 30-35 mins. I rebooted to Snow Leopard and tested there and found zero problems. My WiFi WPA-2, 2.4GHz, Edimax router, another home devices doesn't have such a problem. Turn off and turn on the WiFi on iMac resolved the problem but only for another 30 mins. I tried to create another Location settings — the same issue. And it doesn't matter I use WiFi or no — disconnections still here. I run ping to router's IP — it timeouts when WiFi stops to work so it's not DHCP or DNS problem (I've also tried to use static IP — the same result). I don't have 5GHz WiFi so I can't check it. Also I've changed channels on the router — without results.
I\m sure that this is a problem with WiFi drivers on Mavericks.
How can we send such reports to Apple support — they must fix it in nearest Mavericks update!

  • Wifi keeps dropping on macbook pro

I just bought a macbook pro and wifi keeps dropping every 5-10 mins. I have to turn airport off and on again for it to work but still it keeps dropping. If I reset my router, wifi will not drop but the following day it will still drop. Any help please?

I have tried contacting apple about the problem-but to no avail.
I'm sorry, but I find this hard to believe if you called them.
    A few suggestions:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
See KB Articles:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1401 AirPort troubleshooting guide
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712 Using network locations in Mac OS X
    ============================
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.
Also, run the Airport Utility app which is located inside the Utilities folder.

If using Linsys router contact LinkSys Customer Support and/or post in their forums.
If using Apple's Airport, please re-post over in one of the AirPort Forums.

  • Ipod 4g wifi keeps disconnecting

    Hi,
I have just recieved an Ipod 4g as a gift. I am having Wi-fi issues - the Wi-fi keeps disconnecting or it doesn't even bring up the network.
My Sister will have the ipod in the exact same position and her Ipod will connect to the network with no trouble and stay connected whereas if i am able to find the network it keeps disconnecting after a few minutes.
Her is a 3g ipod touch whereas mine is the latest version.
Anyone know what the problem is. Is the Ipod itself faulty or is this a generic issue with the Ipod 4g's? Anyone know how to fix it?
Its not the wireless itself as ipod 3g connects fine and so does all other devices.
    Thanks

Try to reset your iPod (but don't restore it!).  This has happened to e countless times on my 2g. You need to reset it or turn of wifi and turn it back on after a period of time.  Hope I helped!

  • What to do if wifi keeps disconnecting and safari does not load?

My wifi on my Mac desktop keeps disconnecting. When the internet is connected, Safari often "cannot connect to server" or "safari cannot load page" or page "failed to load". The wifi works on my iPhone and iPad, so I'm not sure why it doesn't work on the desktop. Is there anything simple I can do to fix this? Thank you.

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Be sure to test on more than one Wi-Fi network, if at all possible. A desktop computer can be tested with a mobile hotspot, such as the hotspot created by a cell phone. If the problem only exists on one network, then the access point of that network should be the focus of your attention, not the computer.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 6
    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local only
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. You'll be prompted for the password when you reconnect. Save it in the keychain.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • HT202639 Wifi keeps disconnecting

Started few days ago, my iPhone 4s keeps disconnecting from wifi. It's on iOS 8.1.2 . Everytime I open an application that uses network, wifi gets disconnected. Such as App Store, Skype, Clash of Clans and all other app that uses network. After the disconnection, either it will reconnect to my wifi  or it won't connect until the next reboot. Sometimes, when I switch off the wifi toggle, my phone freezes and needs to force reboot in order for my phone to unfreeze. I think the reason that this happened is because my phone fell and hit the floor alot of times and might have damaged the phone inside or there is a software problem. Any solutions or real reason to this?

I have the same issue.  What I've noticed is that when I connect to the network, it pops up one of those wifi authentication windows like I'm connecting from a hotel or something.  But this is connecting to "http://www.apple.com" and the only thing the window says is "SUCCESS".  I can't do anything.  When I hit cancel it disconnects from that network since it thinks I haven't authenticated.
Where I work you can set up wifi accounts for guests, so I did that for myself and that worked because that popped up a real authentication page, but again all signs point back to a TEST page that apple has, so they seem to have left some beta code in here or something.
Haven't tried on my home LAN yet...hope it works!
