My working iPod touch (5th gen) shuts down automatically and wouldn't start, was this iOS 8.1 related?

My iPod screen went dark when I try to wake it, then the power button can't turn it back on either. I have the 16GB version, still got 7GB of usable memory but this was the first problem after installing the iOS 8.1. I don't think it was the battery, the battery icon that used to be visible when the system is off but it was not there when I tried to charge the battery. At this point, my 16GB iPod Touch and all the files inside are waiting for rescue.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

It will not turn back on, and when I plug it into the charger, nothing changes. Any suggestions?

  • My iPod touch 5th generation shuts down randomly??

My iPod touch 5th generation will randomly shut down out of the blue, and when it does it has these strange vertical multicolored stripes that show up, the screen turns dark, and then it turns off. It then turns itself back on. It will do this when I'm in the middle of scrolling through a web page, or typing a message, or listening to music, or anything really. It will do this sometimes three or four times during an hour. It will also not keep time. Whether I set it manually or automatically, it will change to the current time but not keep time regularly. There are no cracks or dings in the screen or back, and I always have it in a case. It started doing this a couple weeks ago, and I have no idea why. I've tried resetting it to the factory settings and then redownloading all my apps and music and pictures, but it's still not working. Any help would be appreciated.

If you successfully restored (went through all steps without error) to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Desktop shutting down automatically and unable to start up

The computer will shut down automatically overnight and then it takes about 10 minutes of pressing the power button, unplugging the power lead from the PC, switching off and unplugging the power lead from the wall to be able to turn the computer on.
We have had the computer for 4 weeks and this has happened 5 times.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen shuts down when locked

I have the iPod Nano 5th Generation 8GB in Silver. I bought it recently, second hand from eBay. I originally thought that the iPod was broken, until I plugged it in to my PC and it came to life. However, when it is not connected to my PC or charging, it shuts down after 15 minutes of being locked. I have looked through all of the settings, including Sleep Timers, and Reset the settings to default, yet it still happens. I could find nothing wrong in the diagnostics menu (besides the fact that the battery life is less than what it should be) and could find nothing on the internet that had anything to do with my issue. I am considering getting a refund on the iPod unless there is an easy fix for this.
    Thanks in advance

Make sure your headphone plug is pushed all the way into the connecton until no silver is showing.  You will hear a click and feel it snap all the way in.

  • My iPod touch 5th gen isn't charging and when I plug my working charger in that I've always used a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported". So can I send it in for a new one if I have a warranty?

For Christmas, my older sister got me a portable charger for my iPod. I'm not sure if it was capable with apple products, but it charged my iPod when I used it. My brother came upstairs and took my portable charger from me, so I went to go use my wall charger. The wall charger I have has always worked and it charges my mom's iPhone, so the problem I have isn't my charger. After I plugged my iPod in my charger, a message popped up saying "This accessory may not be supported". I was confused because this never has happened before, so I tried my portable charger after I got the message. The portable charger didn't charge my iPod anymore apparently after I tried my charger. All this happened the day after Christmas, so it's almost been a month without my iPod charging properly. My iPod does charge, but only when I plug it in halfway and am about to turn it all the way off. The only way I get it to charge is when I plug it in real fast as soon as I turn my iPod completely off. I've also restarted my iPod, cleaned out the charging area, asked people at stores that work with technology, and etc, so if someone could help me resolve this problem that would be legit because I use my iPod on a daily basis.

That message is usually due to a bad cable.

  • How can I unlock ipod touch 5th gen currently disabled and never sync'd with itunes

Basic situation. Ipod touch 5th gen. Passcode forgotten and tried too many times such that ipod is disabled and requested to connect to iTunes.  Problem is that the ipod was never sync'd with iTunes so the connection fails.  I've only owned it for 9 months or so.  I know I can recover all my music through iTunes and my applications through the app store since all of my content was legally purchased.  The problem is that I need to also recover my contacts and pictures since this is the only place they exist.
I have read about methods up to 4th generation where you can access a particular file on the device via computer and rename it to unlock the device. That would most likely allow me to then sync/backup via iTunes and recover my data.  Problem is that I can only access the DCIM folder via windows manager and it contains no data. Perhaps there is a way to access the device a different way?
Is there a way with the 5th generation to either reset the lock (from disabled to locked with a 1 min wait for retry as an example) to allow me more opportunities to try other passcodes that I may have set (including mistypes etc) or to remove the passcode completely and let me set it to something I will write down this time?
Please do not reply with the standard apple responses of 'sync with itunes' or 'factory reset' and no, I did not sync with the icloud either (I tried but it was unsuccessful for some reason).
The answer doesn't even have to be a free one as I would be willing to pay for the solution if it were guaranteed to work.  Since apple seems to want to charge for any type of support, even to ask a question, I am relying on the community for help.  Thanks much.

You have to place the iPod in Recovery mode as Apple says and erase the device. It is a security feature.
    or
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    There is not other way

  • My iPod touch 5th gen can't play videos?

I've had my iPod touch 5th gen since Christmas Eve and I haven't had any problems with it, but a few days ago it stopped playing videos and now - even though I have turned it off and back on and turned the wifi off and back on again - it still can't play videos off any site, Facebook, dailymotion, YouTube, nothing. But I can view webpages and get Internet connection just fine!!
So if you know what I could do to fix it please help because it's very frustrating!!! Thanks

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
