Myspace causes connection issues

It is hard to describe this problem, and hard to search for. I can't seem to find an answer. If myspace was just slow to load, it would be fine, I'd just wait. But what happens is that any time I go to a myspace band page, it kills Firefox's connection to the Internet, and I have to restart firefox.
I have a 24" iMac (1st gen) running Leopard 10.5.1
I use Firefox 2.0.0.11
I have Safari 3.0.4
I am on AT&T DSL
When surfing the web with Firefox, if I try to open a myspace page, it kills firefox's connection to the Internet. Myspace is VERY slow to load, and it almost never completely does. Sometimes the music player loads and sometimes it doesn't. It always messes up firefox's connection. I have to quit firefox and reload it to get it to work again.
Safari does no better; it takes a long time to load and generally doesn't load the whole page either. Sometimes it works, sometimes half the page loads, sometimes I only get a blank screen with blue question marks.
I've tried running firefox in Rosetta. It did not help and actually made FF slower and use a lot more CPU time...
I just tried uninstalling firefox (with app zapper) and reinstalling. Clean install of firefox and it did the same thing. Myspace would load but when it is trying to load the music player it seems to take forever, and when I try to go to any other website it will not connect.
Now it seems worse...I accidentally opened a myspace page and it broke firefox's connection. I restarted firefox and everything worked again except for google mail. I had to restart the Mac to get firefox to access google mail again.
Maybe someone could give me a new direction to take on this, I'm at a loss.

Same issues overhere, sometimes Myspace works perfect and sometimes when logging in and when checking messages in Myspace the page won't load and my internet connection fails.
what i than do is:
1. clean up Safari (cookies and cache)
2. restart my belkin router ( with the Lan cable not connected to the cable modem)
3. connect my cable modem to my belkin router.
4. launch safari and my internet connection is working again.
this could be a OSX Leopard / Myspace bug because its strange that the internet connection gets lost.

  • Could the iTunes suggested fixes (i.e. DNS flush) CAUSE connectivity issues

I too have recently downloaded the latest version of iTunes and tried unsuccessfully to connect to the iTunes store via my iPod Touch. iTunes even tried to update the latest iPod software but couldn't connect. But here is the my real concern, I tried all of the fixes suggested by iTunes/Apple with no success, however, since these "fixes", my other programs that have worked fine just prior to these "fixes" suddenly don't recognize an internet connection either. I tried to do a Java update...couldn't connect. I downloaded a new game from Gamehouse and tried to login to FunPass (as always)...couldn't connect, however, any game downloaded prior to yesterday's "fixes"...there is no problem connecting. I even yelled at AT&T Yahoo support thinking they were the problem (recent issue with their Protection Suite). Finally, I purchased, downloaded, and ran a new antivirus program thinking a possible virus or malware or adware or something...found & fixed stuff (mostly spyware), but it can't update or finish registering because it also thinks there isn't a connection. Could flushing the DNS (as suggested) cause connectivity problems with my other programs?? Or, any suggestions?? I am desperate

Flushing the DNS entries shouldn't be a problem, as they should just get rebuilt.
DNS stands for Domain Name System, it's just an "address" for all the different computers connected to the internet to find each other.
Here is a good explanation on that process:
+When a computer visits a website for the first time, it stores the website's DNS information in cache. The next time the computer visits a website, it looks in the cache to see if the website's information is present to use. This can cause problems if the website's DNS information has changed since the computer's last visit. Flushing the cache removes all the information stored in cache, forcing the computer to find the new DNS information for the website.+

  • RDS Farm setting applied through GPO causing connection issues

I'm having a strange issue with some RDS GPO's. Since automating the RDS server build process through SCCM I've moved the RDS farm / connection broker settings to a GPO. This works fine, once the servers are built the GPO applies and the machines join the
    farm.
However, when any GPO associated with the farm is changed, all the sessions connected to the farm are dropped. User can reconnect but this is very inconvenient for us to try and push shortcuts and what not during production.
After searching fro a while, to me, it seems like the GPO that assigns the farm settings is being reprocessed, causing the settings to drop and connections to be dropped.
I wouldn't think that this would be normal behavior? Can anyone confirm for me that this should work as I expect it to?
    Thanks!

Ok so I finally figured it out.
It was what I expected, the GPO refresh was causing the settings to be dropped, this caused some registry keys to momentarily revert to their default.
    Specifically:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Terminal Server/fDenyTSConnections
The problem is that even if you set this registry key by hand, it will still revert during the GPO processing, which is what threw me off.
The solution is to simply apply a GPP to the computer that specifically sets this registry entry to '0'. By setting the GPP, it stops the setting from reverting when GPO is refreshed. After extensive testing, I can confirm that this is fixed.

  • Does the Zynga toolbar cause connection issues?

I am having trouble while playing Cityville on FB "trying to connect to server do not close your browser" Oops connection lost, refresh. some say this is due to the zynga game bar . I clean cache, history, cookies regularly and restart from time to time
What should I do? Delete something??

    Just as a general comments:
    * if you use more than one version of firefox you need to create separate profiles for each, or you probably will run into problems see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Testing_pre-release_versions]
    * if you are using the new 'firefox button' click on that and look for the toolbar viewing options, and any other options it lists
Sorry I do not use Zynga, and do not know whether it is even fully compatible with Firefox 4 beta, alternatively it may even use the apps tabs feature see [[What are App Tabs?]]

  • Virtual Machine - Connectivity Issues - West US

I have 4 VM running in same Virtual Network hosted in West US. I have been working on these VM for last 2-3 days. However, I am not able to connect to these VM for the past 6 hours. In the management
portal also I am not getting options to connect, restart etc.
Is there any outage in West US data center or is something in Azure West US environment causing connectivity issues?
    Thanks,
    Venkatesh

I have been down for over 30 dang hours, and my configuring tab just continues to load and not let me do a thing to change tier, which in another topic I created someone said to change it and change it back to fix it. I can't get the darn thing to stop doing
the loading. It does not do anything, and I have been waiting for so dang long for this crap to work. What the heck is going on?
I added an extra vm just before this happen to have availability setup, because it warns that not having 2 vm's will cause more downtime. Actually the problem started before I added the extra VM, but I thought I was getting downtime from one VM. I think
the extra VM is keeping me from changing tiers, but still I can't the thing to finish loading the website VM to even do a thing with it. It just like Microsoft is keeping me from having access.
Edit: I just got it back to the way I had, but the loading is still not working, and I can't change the tier worth crap. It just hangs on the loading. This is BS.

  • Ea6300 causing network issues when connecting to web browser on my Mac

I have had my ea6300 for two months and its causing major issues when connecting to my web broweser before I throw it out the window can someone give me some help.

Hi bigtimer30, what do you mean by “it’s causing major issues when connecting to my web browser”? Do you mean that the MAC computer is no longer able to access the internet? If yes, is it with both wired and wireless connections? Is this happening to all of your devices? Or just that specific MAC computer? If all the other devices are still able to connect except the MAC, I suggest that you do a power cycle on the computer (if you haven’t done it yet). And you’re having difficulties with the wireless part, try to hard wire the computer straight to your router, and check if you experience the same thing. If the wired connection is okay, you may try playing with the router’s wireless channel. Better if you could give more details for us to give you more suggestions.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8v2 causes client connectivity issues

I installed SP3 Rollup 8v2 this weekend, going from 7. Since then we are having random client connectivity issues. New profiles can't be created, and some users can't access resources when booking meetings. We can do a registry fix to their machines to add
a DS Server, but this is a workaround only. I have uninstalled the Rollup 8v2 and we are still having the issue.
I thought 8v2 was supposed to fix this issue!

    Hi,
According to your post, I understand that outlook client cannot connect to Exchange server to configure profile and cannot get list of resources room when upgrade to Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8v2, the temporary solution is that specify the DC in registry.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Is there error message when configure Outlook failed?
Please run Test E-mail AutoConfiguration and Outlook connection status to double confirm the URL and FQDN of Exchange server.
As additional, please run below command to double check the state of Exchange system component:
    Get-ServerComponentstate -Identity “servername”
If the state is Inactive, please run below command to active relevant component:
Set-ServerComponentState <Identity> -Component “component name” -Requester HealthAPI -State Active

  • Connectivity issues caused by coax, will Verizon install ethernet line to the second floor?

Lately i've been having connectivity issues(bad lag, pages stop loading) and the problem appears to be the coax line that is running between my ONT(in the garage) and office(two floors up) .  How do i know it's the coax? Well, when the router is in the office and  I ping yahoo.com, i get an average of 120ms, ~10% packet loss. Then I moved the actiontec router to a 3 foot cable directly attached to my ONT and I get 20ms, zero packet loss. Unless im missing something it seems like there is a problem with the lines in my house and their ability to do internet over coax. My FIOS TV service works fine. I have tested all my other coax lines and they all have the same issue except for the one in the living room, however i cant use that line because wireless doesn't reach the office. So the only solution im seeing is to run an ethernet line from the ONT directly to the office. The distance is at most 75ft so signaling should not be an issue. Will Verizon install the ethernet line for me or will I have to do it myself? I feel like im not getting proper service and Verizon should be responsible for fixing it. If anyone here has other suggestions to remedy my problem please let me know. Thx guys!

I can't answer the question about Verizon running Cat5 for you.  I'm sure someone else here will have that answer.  But some thoughts about the problem you're seeing.
Is the coax from the garage to your office reasonably new and in good shape?
Have you tried changing the connectors at both ends?
How are splitters configured?  I would think you should have the router on one 3.5 dB leg of the first splitter and the rest of the house off any other splits.  And a splitter could be bad.  You could try getting a coax "barrel" from Radio Shack and, as a test, bypassing any splitter in between the ONT and the router in your office.
Is the run from the garage to the router about the same as the run to the living room?  I'm wondering if the router itself might be defective and require more signal than it should.
FWIW, it sounds like I have a similar setup to yours and it just works.  I know some prefer Cat5 ONT-router for various reason but I like the Verizon default configuration for it's simplicity and for the fact that Verizon will support it if support is needed.   I wonder what tech support would say about your situation if you could get past tier 1 script reading.
    Good luck.
    P.S.
The more I think about it the more I suspect a splitter is your problem.  I say that because if I understand you correctly, you get the same results at the end of every piece of coax except in the living room.  Right?  That leads me to think the connection to the ONT is getting screwed up somewhere that it's being split.  FWIW.
    edit & P.P.S.
This is the "barrel" I had in mind to bypass any splitters for troubleshooting purposes:

  • Wi-Fi Connection Issues with 2 PC's and MacBook Pro on Router

Okay so here is whats going on.....
I am staying with my Mom for a short period of time. She uses Xfinity from Comcast. They provide her with a residential Home Gateway which provides her the internet and the Wi-Fi signal.
My Partner is also staying with us.
My Mom owns two PCs one runs Windows 8 and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. My Partner also runs a PC which is running Windows 7 Professional.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina Display Early 2013 release. Intel Core i5 2.6 GHz. 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
Well oddly enough I can access the internet just fine, I am right now as a matter fact. The issue is that if my partner boots up her PC her wi fi somehow kicks everyone off the internet and she cannot connect to the internet herself.
I do not know if its my settings in my MacBook Pro causing the issues or if something is wrong on her PC or my Mom's. Either way its extremely annoying. We all need to be on the internet at the same time so constantly being booted *****!
I checked and I have no new system updates available. I am currently running Mac OSX 10.9 (13A603).
The router has been power-cycled and we have done a reset on it. Its an Arris TG862 I believe. There is only one other wi fi network in the neighborhood as we are in a retirees community so chances of anything weird or someone using our wi fi is unlikely. Unless some old person is super tech savvy and bored. he he maybe tho lol.

When you say check hers to make sure it's not set to static IP whose are u referring to?? Mom's or my Partners?
And under what setting do I go to for the DHCP scope?? Advanced? What should I set it to?

  • My MacBook Air has recently started having substantial WiFi connectivity issues. How do I fix this?

For the last couple weeks my MacBook Air has started having some mighty substantial connectivity issues.
When I wake it from sleep, or if I'm using it for an extended period (say, more than 5-10 minutes), the connection will become extremely unreliable. This primarily happens with browsers, or the Twitter application. For example, if I start a call on Skype the call will continue to function just fine, but I won't be able to connect to any websites through any browser. I've tried Safari, Chrome, and Firefox while the connectivity problems are occuring. When they do occur, a full shut down and cold boot are required to make it work again for a short while.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I've done numerous checks for malware using Clam Xav and Sophos Anti-Virus. (I didn't suspect that this would be the issue, but it was still something that I decided to rule out.) Additionally, I've tried connecting using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands on my wireless router. Neither seems to be more successful than the other. (Note: The 5GHz works perfectly and without interruption on my iPad and desktop PC. The 2.4GHz works perfectly with my iPhone 4S and Xbox 360. I feel that with that in mind, I can safely rule out the router as the root of the problem. Both of these examples go on for very extended periods of time. I game regularly using both my PC and Xbox 360.)

    Hi Jollified,
Does your sound work when you try to use head/earphones? If so, try the following:
Plug your Headphones into your Mac.
Play a sound through them (a song for example), then stop the sound.
Make sure 'Preferences' is isn't open. If it is, Quit.
    Launch System Preferences > Sounds.
While the Sounds tab is open and set to 'Headphones', pull out the Headphones from the jack.
You should see your Mac reset to 'Internal Speakers'
Also, I see you have tried resetting the PRAM, have you tried resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)? Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
As for your MacBook not sleeping when you close the lid, there are many reasons this can occur.
First of all, check out Apples article on the issue: OS X Yosemite: If your Mac won’t go to or stay in sleep If you find these steps don't help, try a few of the following:
A common cause for the Mac not sleeping is your printer. If there are queued jobs waiting to be printed, but your printer is switched off, for some reason you Mac just wont like it and simply will not go to sleep. System Preferences > Print and Scan > Open Print Queue
Do you have an Ethernet Cable connected? People have reported in the past that removing their Ethernet allowed their Mac to sleep. This goes for other things you may have connected directly to your Mac also.
Try heading into your Mac Preferences > Sharing and deselecting 'Internet Sharing' as well as 'Printer Sharing'.
Also deselect Wake For Network Access by heading to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter > Wake For Network Access.
Energy Saver > Schedule > Startup or Wake - Uncheck.
Alternatively, set your system preferences to Never Sleep, and put into Sleep manually: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Computer Sleep > Never.
    Good luck!

  • Remote Desktop Connection Issue

    Hello,
We have an issue where our reception computer has 4 RDP connections set up to access 4 other desktops in the office. The connections seem to lose some sort of connection settings periodically as when we try to launch the connections they fail. They
come up with the error of the three reasons you may not be able to connect. We have gone in and tried to connect by ip but that did not work either. We have been able to get it back and working if we rebind the computers to the domain but it seems to only
work for a short time before we have to do this again. Now another interesting thing is that we can go to one of the other desktops and connect from it to the reception computer but it for some reason will not work the other way around. We have tried configuring
the windows firewall as well as the eset firewall that is used for out Anti Virus software but nothing there seems to work. The rebinding is a temp fix but would like to try and find a permanent fix. We can remote in to some other desktops on the same network
as well from the reception computer but for some reason it has issues with these 4 computers. We also have set up all the permissions to allow access . We do not want to use a third party remote software to do this we would like to use the software that has
been provided through the operating system.
    Thanks,
    Zach Hartman

    Hello,
We started by computer name and then tried IP address. The computers in the office have all been assigned Static IPs and it still happens. This issue does not happen at a specific time or interval and just happens when
it feels like it. It could work for a day and then stop or it could work for a month and stop. We have found that rebinding to the domain somehow temporarily resolves the issue. I looked into any group policies that could be causing an issue but we have not
of the group policies that affect RDP configured so that can pretty much be ruled out. The error We receive is as followed: "Remote
desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
    1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
    2) The remote computer is turned off
    3) The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network,
and that remote access is enabled."
Like I said rebinding to the domain temporarily resolves it but would be nice to find a permanent solution.
Thanks in Advanced for any help

  • Connectivity issues for random phones in CUCM 8.6 on Vmware

I have a client that has problems with around half of there ip phones (6921 & 7945) after a situation with overheating in the serverroom.
The solutions was a 1 Publisher, 1 subscriber setup with each on a separate Vmware server.
The Publisher is connected to the Core Switch which is further connected to 4 distribution switches which again connect to 5 more distribution switches. They have around 200 ip phones connected to these switches that get assigned IP's with DHCP.
The physical disk that the Subscriber was on was destroyed the incident. The Publisher they recovered, but to do this they had to recreate the vm descriptor file and attach it to the flat-file.
So the current situation is that the system is running with only 1 Publisher and no Subscriber.
There is also a license warning in the CCM Admin section, stating a License Overage (2 nodes used, but only 1 licensed.)
The license status is not invalid though, and the license state is "Uploaded". This second node I suppose might be the Subscirber that no longer exists? The phones have more than enough licenses.
When powered up the system seems to run as it should, but only about half the phones have connectivity to and can register with CUCM.
I have tried to reboot some phones remotely by cutting the power on the switch interfaces where they are attached, but that made no difference.
The console log on the phones that are down show TFTP Timeout & File Transfer Error.
The phones that are up and running can be pinged successfully from the CUCM cli, but when pinging the others I get "Destination Host Unreachable".
The strange thing is that it seems completely random as to what phones are up or down. On all switches there are connected phones with both working and non-working connections to CUCM.
To try to pinpoint the fault I chose 2 devices on the same switch and compared the config for each interface, one that has connectivity and is registered, and one that does not have connectivity and is unreachable.
Everything seems to be identical so I can't see what causes this error on the one, but not on the other.
Also when I ping the ip phone with no connectivity to CUCM from any of the switches, the ping is successful.
Anyone know what could be the cause of this behaviour?

Hello and thank you for your time.
The phones get there IP’s from a DHCP Server (Not the built in one in CUCM, but an external server). I have tested that the DHCP process works by powering off a phone (one of the phones with connectivity issues), deleting the lease, and then powering the phone back on and seeing the device request and receive a new lease.
There is only one CCM group active and both servers are in this group with the Publisher as highest priority server. All phones are in the same Device Pool attached to this group.
There are a lot of warnings regarding dbReplication & missing node due to the subscriber being gone. Also there is an issue with NTP server (see below). I will post more on this tomorrow morning.
I have also attached the console log from one of the phones that can't register.

  • IPad 2 is having connectivity issues since I updated to 8.0.2

My IPad 2 had connectivity for about 6 hours after I downloaded 8.0.2 last Saturday.  Sunday morning I was back to NO SERVICE in the upper left hand corner.  Yesterday I went to the Apple Store and they showed me how to reset the cellular data, and again I had my 3G back for 6 hours.  Last night and again today we were back to NO SERVICE.  Again I went to the Apple Store and they explained that there were a few phone models that were having cellular connectivity issues, but not IPads.  Well, that's bunk, since I see the complaints that are exactly like mine all over the web.  The Apple Store wiped my IPad clean and told me that if this is a software issue this should fix the problem.  If this is a hardware issue then I will need to buy a new IPad.
Apple needs to own up to the problems that it caused with our devices.  AT LEAST, we should be able to take the updates off of our IPads and go back to 7.0.

  • IPad2, Verizon 3G, VPN Connectivity Issues

Greetings all. I am the systems administrator for my corporation and have seen an issue that I wish to present to the community for discussion.
For those enterprise users that have an iPad2 with Verizons 3G, are you experiencing connectivity issues while trying to connect to your VPNs from the 3G network? If so, have you found any work around to allow connectivity or does it work fine for you?
Here's a summary of my issues:
We have a VPN server built on Debian Linux that has been in operation for over four years. It handles remote VPN connections from Windows, Linux,  Android, OS X, iOS, and from many different devices including multiple flavors of Apple products (iMacs, Minis, MacBooks, iPads, etc.). To date, it has performed flawlessly with assorted devices connecting to it through broadband and assorted 3G networks.
Recently I purchased an iPad2 with Verizon 3G. I was able to set up the VPN connection using PPTP and connect using a Wi-Fi connection. When I turned off the Wi-Fi and attempted the same connection via Verizon 3G, it fails. I then took an associates iPad1 using AT&T 3G, set up the same connection, and was able to connect. I don't have access to an iPad2 on AT&T 3G so, I can't speak for that.
Here's the logs from the VPN server while connecting from my iPad2:
    Wi-Fi
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded.

    Jul 27 05:20:46 localhost pppd[31694]: pptpd-logwtmp.so ip-up ppp2 scott XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (removed external IP for security reasons)
Quick connect, able to utilize VPN connection normally. No issues.
    Verizon 3G
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded.

    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Connect: ppp2 <--> /dev/pts/4

    Jul 27 05:20:33 localhost pppd[31682]: Exit.
As you can see, the peer refuses to authenticate causing the link to be terminated while attempting to connect using Verizons network. This is with the same VPN connection settings on the iPad2 that just worked with WiFi connection from the same device.
Here's what I can verify with regards to 3G networks:
Older (<4) iPhones and iPad1 using AT&T can connect
Windows and OS X based laptops using Sprint 3G can connect
Android based smart phones using Sprint 3G can connect
I have not called Verizon or Apple Support yet but, that's next when I have the time. My initial conclusion is that there is something with Verizons 3G services that is causing the issue. It may be that Verizon is using some sort of data compression process that is problematic with VPN transmission. While the log shows an unsupported IPv6 protocol when connecting via Wi-Fi, it still negotiates a successful connection and I don't think that's the root cause for the disconnect. Thoughts?

    Hi Alexander,
I am running in to the exact same issue (although not with Linux).  Did you ever find a fix for this?  I have some support tickets open with my VAR's, but found your post and thought I would check.  If I find anything I will post.
    Thanks

  • Wi-Fi Connection Issue at Startup When NAS configured as Login Item

    Hi!
I recently ran into internet connection issue during startup. I managed to find the culprit (it's the firewall) but I believe there should be more behind just blaming the firewall for it.
Before I go any further, it would be best if I try to explain the setup that I have. Also, note that I'm a newbie when it comes to terms like DHCP, IP address, IPv4, IPv6, etc. I think I may have an idea what they do, but I'm not quite sure whether that idea jibes with the real thing. Whatever. Anyways, here's the setup.
For the internet connection at my place, I use a Cisco wifi router and an Airport Extreme Base Station. The Cisco router has been set up to have its own wi-fi network, while the Airport Extreme Base Station is connected to the Cisco router using ethernet. I set up a separate wi-fi network for the Airport Extreme Base Station and almost all of my devices are connected using the Airport Extreme's wi-fi network.
I have 3 external hard drives connected to a USB hub, which in turn is connected to the Airport Extreme base station.
2 Macbooks. One is a white, late 2007 MacBook running Lion. The other is a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. I turned the firewall on for both Macbooks.
Initially, there was no problem connecting to the internet and also the 3 external hard drives from the Airport Extreme. I did the wireless connecting to the external hard drives manually after startup (open finder > navigate to airport extreme at the sidebar > click on the hard drives one by one until the eject icon and folders are shown). You can imagine how soon this got annoying for me (yeah, I shutdown my macbooks everytime I finish with them, it's a habit). So I put these external hard drives as a login item at startup (in the system preference setting for accounts) so that I won't have to do this everytime I start my macbooks.
This is where it got interesting.
For my MBPro, during startup the wi-fi icon at the menu bar will show that it was trying to connect and then the '!' symbol is shown. When I go to system preference > network, there was a message about self-assigned IP. I notice that it starts with 169, which is not the usual IP assigned to devices in my home network. This, however, usually did not last long. Soon enough the '!' symbol is gone and the wi-fi connection becomes normal with finder windows popping up showing folders for the external drives. It's a minor annoyance, waiting for the '!' symbol to go away (I think it got something to do with DHCP settings sent from the router and the self-assigned IP address, but again I'm not sure), but at least the MBPro can connect in the end.
For my white MB though, things didn't go well. The '!' remains in the wi-fi icon and there was no internet connection, no matter how long I waited. Even after removing the external drives from login items the problem persists during startup. If I remember correctly sometimes there is a pop-up saying that the computer could not connect to the airport extreme server (this also happens on the MBPro).
I initially tried resetting the wi-fi setup (removing the network from the list of known network in system preference > network, removing the wi-fi network password from keychain access) to no avail (in both macbooks). As mentioned above, I also tried to remove the network hard drives from login item but even after that the connection problem persisted in my white Macbook, while the MBPro initially showed the same symptom before finally managing to connect with the proper IP address.
Finally, after googling through forums some people suggested that turning off the firewall might work. I did so, and voila, it did remedy the situation. Both Macbooks manage to connect to the internet during startup without any fuss, and both even manage to connect to the network drives during startup (I put them in again as login items to see if it would cause further trouble).
So, the firewall was the culprit. But it only started acting up AFTER I put the network drives as login items.
Can anyone explain the cause of this?
    Anyways, thanks for reading!

Make sure you are using the passkey found on the Homehub and not your email password. You may need to "Forget" the connection on the phone and scan again then enter passkey.
