N79 hardware quality of the display is poor

I have had my N79 for three months now. I like the phone very much, but the quality of the plastic in front of the display is really poor and gets scratched so easily.
Now you might think that this is just the usual yadayada from someone not taking care of his phone, but I am always really careful with my phone.
Does anyone else have the same problem? -or a solution (besides from attaching a screen protector to it).
Regards,
Carsten

You can get scratch removing products for phone screens. One was mentioned on allaboutsymbian.com recently as a way of repairing the camera lens protector, it does the same thing. Then put a screen protector on top. Any plastic display is going to scratch eventually, even glass ones will pick some up in the long run.

Poor in what way?  iDVD creates standard definition displays of 640 x 480 pixels and will not look as sharp as the orignal photos in the iPhoto slideshow on a Mac monitor.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).
On the basis of the specifications you have given for your set up, mirroring should work.

  • All the images from the webpages i visited was displayed with poor quality

i have been using firefox for a long time this is the first time i'm experiencing an issue with firefox. i'm using firefox ver.37 with windows 7. i have tried all the settings in the firefox but no use. I'm also used the google chrome but it too have same problem

It is possible that your ISP sends images compressed to speed up the transfer and adds a JavaScript to each page to make it possible to see images in the original quality.
If you want to see the original image quality all the time then you need to contact your ISP and ask what to do to opt-out of that service or see if there is a FAQ about it on the web page of your ISP.

  • Mini-DVI to HDMI has poor quality on the TV

I am trying to watch TV On-line on my Samsung HD TV. I have purchased a mini-DVI to HDMI converter to connect my iMac to my TV. It's working, but the display quality is very poor. I have tried to Mirror the display and not and that's the same. The Display Settings for screen resolution and color only seem to make a difference on the iMac side. Is there something I'm missing. Any suggestions would be helpful. My TV has just about every kind of input available, so if mini-DVI to HDMI isn't the ideal I could have alternatives.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why are burned DVD's poor quality from the IDVD?

I made a slideshow in iphoto and exported to IDVD so I could burn copies.  The show lloked great on screen but the first copies on dvd's were terrible.  The quality of images are very poor and seem to be depixilated?  Why would the copies be so poor?  Does the widescreen or standard have something to do with it??
    Help

    Hi
    There are levels in h*e*l*l*
iDVD - is same as DVD Standard - Interlaced SD-Video
Feeding iDVD progressive or HD material will not improve result but degrade this as from
    - iMovie'08 to 11 - as they can not deliver - but only every second line of the picture
    - iDVD downscaling from HD - is doing a bad job
So by using a program that can deliver - best possibly DVD is the result
    - iMovie HD6
    - FinalCut any version
    - FotoMagico™ - (for SlideShows)
If this is not enough - then DVD is no option as HD-DVD is rare and needs special HD-DVD-players - alt
    • Blu-Ray e.g. from Roxio Toast™ but still needs BD-Player as PlayStation3 etc
    • out in high quality to USB-memory to be played on device that can do this
    • Play via MacBook and out to a HD-projector/TV
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
    • Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
    • Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices

    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

The best thing to do is to go into Help > System Info, copy and paste the contents into your reply.
One of us or several should be able to sort it out for you.

  • My iphone 4 recently shattered and i was wondering are those screen replacements retina displays and the same quality as the apple screens ?

Are these cheaper alternative screen replacements retina display and the same quality as the apple screen

I am assuming you are having Apple do this. They will just replace the whole phone with a refurbished one.
If you're having it done at a third party place then you'll have to ask them all the questions.

Hi since I put the new update on my ipad. The sound quality on the ipad is gone very poor it's sound very tinny. I just wondering if there is going to be a update to sort it out. Thanks

    Hello Tollykev,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you have some audio issues with your iPad after the iOS 7 update.
I want to recommend the following troubleshooting from the article named:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN ME THE DISPLAY QUALITY

I have just purchased a new macbook pro 15" 2.4ghz. Im a designer, i havent even created my appleid, im on my sisters... i made a sacrifice to buy this $2700 laptop.
    and Im so dissapointed...
I CANT SEE SMOOTH GRADIENTS.. all i see are ugly lines... i dont get it, for such a high class LAPTOP.
Apple support please help me solve this. ive been reading forums about 6bit screens for this laptop.. i dont want to believe that. can someone explain? im returning this...

I can verify that all of Apple's laptops use 18 bit (6 bits per Red, Green Blue) color, which is about 260,000 colors. The OS then using dithering to fake the missing colors. Despite what you have read, they are incapable of 24 bit 'millions of colors'.
The problem with this argument is that, when it comes down to it, the color displays are made up of dithered red, green, and blue elements anyway. We accept that this form of display gives us "full color", so it's difficult to argue that millions of colors can't be represented using the same mechanism. It's not quite 16.7 million (more like 16.3 or something) but Apple's text has always taken care to read "millions of colors" rather than 16.7 million (which you'll still see on the specifications for the Cinema displays).
Just for informational sakes though, these kinds of 6-bit displays don't rely on OS spatial dithering; they actually make use of their very fast switching to perform temporal dithering, switching a pixel between two shades very quickly to generate an in-between shade. That's why for most people the result is usually visually indistinguishable from true 8-bit color, and doesn't look like what you'd see with traditional dithering.
If the OP is noticing severe banding on gradients, it's more likely to be an issue with color profiles than with the display being 6-bit.

  • Why is the camera such poor quality to take still pictures.

I have been trying other a
Apps to see if the quality of the still shots can get better.
No such luck. It just looks like a grainy picture.
Is there anything that can make this take good still pictures?
Especially for the price you pay for one of these things?

Yes I must admit the camera on the Iphone is very good.
Yes the Ipad is well bait big to hold in the palm of your hand so to speak.
But it would be nice to be able to take a quick snap if a picture becomes apparent.
It would have been nice to have the Iphone camera in the Ipad2.
Oh well just have to be disappointed about this feature.
Question to any one. Is there an app that allows you to take a picture from a movie you made on the Ipad2 at all?
As the camera picture is clear enough for me when I pause it.
    Thanks

  • Pap2 Poor quality on the receiving party end

    Hello,
I have a PAP2-NA device that I have configured with my company's service. The problem is the voice quality is choppy and breaks up on the receiving party's end. The quality from the persom making the call from the PAP2 device is fine which leads me to think it is one of the settings on the device. I have other phones (Polycom SIP phones) using the same service and the same bandwidth connection and they have no problems. This further leads me to conclude it is a setting in the PAP2 device. Does anyone know which setting could be adjusted to improve quality on the receiving end?

  • Display Resolution Poor in OSX while great in Win 7

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and I recently purchased a Samsung SyncMaster TA550 monitor/TV that I was hoping to use as a monitor.  I am able to get the monitor to work through a mini DisplayPort to HDMI convertor, but the resolution and color on the monitor is very poor.  In order to check that I didn't just have a bad cable, I was able to bootcamp into Windows 7 to check out the external monitor.  In Windows 7 the monitor works perfectly.  Both the color and the resolution are flawless.  Any ideas?

Keywords: MBP, macbook-pro, samsung, T24A350, T24A550, monitor, display, solution, optimised settings
Computer : Macbook PRO mid 2011 version (but I guess it will work for earlier and future models as well)
Monitor : Samsung T24A350 (also works for the T24A550 and other monitor/tv models)
Problem : Solve poor quality of the monitor screen if using default settings
When connected to the Samsung monitor/tv, the screen quality is very poor if using the default settings.
However with the following procedure/settings the screen quality of this monitor is excellent!
It took me quite a while to find the optimized settings for the Samsung monitor T24A350 connected to a Macbook-pro via the minidisplay port -> HDMI adapter -> HDMI cable -> HDMI IN 1 (Samsung monitor). It is in the manual, but I overlooked it initially. The confusion is that the mini display port apparently is a DVI port and needs a special setting to work properly.
PROCEDURE (see also page 21 of the English or Dutch user manual
    1. Select Source on the remote control
    2. Select PC
    3. Select SOURCE -> TOOLS -> Edit Name -> Enter
    4. When connecting a PC to HDMI IN 1 (mini display port) with DVI to HDMI cable, change the mode name to "DVI PC" from the pull down menu
I guess the same setting is required if you use the mini display port to VGA adapter. However I did not check this.

    Leo.

  • For the people that wants to change the display

i have been bothered with the booklet display since the very firsy day I bought it... there is some kind of noise very noticeable when looking at white backgrounds (do you have this or is it only mine?), at first I thought it was only humidity behind the glass, but i discovered that the display is just like that...kind of cheap.
i was very annoyed by the idea of having a dirty display so I opened the display to try to clean it, to my surprise, the display is like that, with noise! well, so im thinking on changing the display to some crispy clear one but i dont know how to begin with, i just know the size of the display and that's it. maybe someone here can tell me what to look at when buying a new one? will i need new drivers?, what about conections and stuff?
    thanks a lot!!!
ps. if you want to try it yourself and open the display you can try it...you just need a prying tool and pass it all around the plastic sheet, in the space between the rubber band and the sheet, you have to pry it deep, since there is like 5mm think of sticky pads all around. it is very sticky, you will hear the glue unstick as soon as you slide the tool around...once you have pryied out one half, then the other half of the sheet will go easily.
you can also pop out the top lid from here, there are some hooks that can just push out and the glossy  top lid will open.
you can put everything back without issues, the glue will still hold the sheet.

I am feeling exactly the same way as dcastrog does!
I guess there could be one POSSIBILITY:
Dcastrog and I bought the defective product. So does the guy in this review:
    http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/review/1565952/nokia-booklet-3g
Read this paragraph :"The quality of the 10.1-inch high-resolution 1280x720 display on the Booklet isn't very sharp, compared with other netbooks. It comes across as a throwback to those early screens that were used in the first Asus Eee PC netbooks from 2007. It's very blurry, which is really highlighted on a white background, such as in Word or a web browser..."
Anyway, if this is not the case, "the "haze" is an anti-glare coating, designed to minimise the reflections visible on the front of the glass" is far from making any sense. We all know what a "ok" anti-glare lcd should look like, but not this way.
Guys who also have a booklet please tell us your feelings about the lcd~
p.s. I'm from a non-english speaking country so excuse me  for my poor english expression :-)

  • HT4623 The display on my 4S has a hallow arounfd the edges and a black area in the middle resembling a domino

The display on my 4S has a hallow around the edges and a black area in the center which resembles a domino with 6 spots

The front screen assembly is probably a poor quality replacement, with the front glass being too thick and causing pressure on the LCD Display below it. Or when the screen was replaced they forgot to remove the plastic protection film, so this sheet of plastic is making the entire front assembly too thick, causing pressure on the LCD Display. The bit about the domino with 6 spots seems like the Mirror sheet at the back of the Sceen is removed, or again is just from all the pressure I described in my first two sentences.
