N79 radio

I have a problem with my N79.
When I try to connect the radio I found only 2 options Visual Radio and Internet Radio.
I suposse that the first option (Visual Radio) is the option to play FM radio and that it's free but when i check out my account after playing the radio i found that i've been charged.
Is there any other option to play radio that i don't know?
Can anybody help me?
Thanks,

The "visual radio" part is a network service that can look up information on currently-playing tracks, download a station directory, and a couple of other things. It uses your internet connection so you'll be charged for any data used if you don't have an unlimited package.
You can't disable its internet connection as far as I can tell, nor make it use wi-fi. However if don't use the visual service or the station directory, you shouldn't have to go online.
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

Just recently, past couple of weeks, Internet Radio stops playing stream after about 30 seconds or less.  Sometimes it says "Buffering..." or "Connecting...", but more often it simply stops (as if I had pressed "Stop"), and I have to press the center key to restart the stream.
This happens every time I listen to Internet Radio via 3G (or 3.5G, as it indicates). Previously I was also noticing same dropouts when using WLAN connection, but that seems to have stopped happening (for the time being).
I am using AT&T network in USA, n79, firmware 30.019, Nokia Internet Radio installed from file: "iRApp_S60_323_1_16_upgrade.sis", which was specifically recommended by Nokia for the n79.  Previous version of Internet Radio had same problem, but starting only recently.  In exact same place at same time, phone receives smooth transmission from YouTube app without dropouts, so I don't think it's network-dropout related.
The Internet Radio is an app I use every day, so I would greatly appreciate any help!
    Thanks.

Why don't Internet radio players reconnect automatically when the connection is lost? Surely loss of the connection can be detected. All of the players seem to be based on the same code written by someone with contempt for the listener.

  • N79 FM Radio

    HI
I have acquired an n79 in very good condition & with only 15 hours on the life timer.
All seems to work OK apart from the FM radio (receiver) which I cannot make work,
If I select visual radio with the headset connected, then try to tune, the tuning symbols just goes round constantly.
I have an n85 which works ok so I know what should happen.
FM transmitter works OK, and I have reinstalled the phone software.
I have also seen the same on another N79 which I had for a while.
I have found other similar posts but with no real answer.
Is this a problem with the model?
    Can anyone help?

Have you tried manually entering a known radio frequency:
    Options --> Manual Tuning
If you are able to save a number of known frequencies to your list of stations, you could avoid having to deal with a repair service.
On my N79, if there are no stations in an area that are strong enough to be recognized by the tuner, the scan will just go around and around endlessly. The device is not really optimized to be an FM radio, so if you live in a place with few strong stations, that might be the case for you as well. Perhaps the n85 has a better tuner.

  • Nokia Internet Radio Error: Connection Timed Out. ...

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with the Nokia Internet Radio application on the Nokia N95. The app launches ok but if I try and browse the station directory or perform a search I get the error 'Connection Timed Out. Try Again' This happens almost instantly i.e. it doesn't look like it's even trying to connect. If I go to the shoutcast site and click on the 'Tune In' button next to a station the Internet radio app launches and I get an error saying 'General: System Error' and the application closes then goes back to the browser and a message saying 'Web: No Gateway Reply' The application worked fine up until recently. I upgraded to FW V 21.0.016 and hasn't worked since so it may be that this has caused the problem. I've removed and re-downloaded \ re-installed the software but still get the same issue. Web browsing works fine, so I know my internet settings are fine, and the old open-source version of the radio player even works so it's just an issue with this app. Any advice on how to fix it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem and I fixed it.  For me, it was because I am on the Rogers network in Canada.  Regardless of where you are many cellular neworks use firewalls and something called NAT (Network Address Translation).  Nokia should really make people aware of this because probably 50% of people around the world have this problem.  The solution for me was to use Rogers VPN or Public IP to access the internet.  Rogers blocks access to this internet connection so you have to add the service to your account for $10 per month but I have heard that other carriers like FIDO have not blocked access to it.
On the Nokia n79 this requires creating a new access point under TOOLS>SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS>DESTINATIONS.  Add a new access point with the following settings:
Connection Name: Rogers VPN (or whatever you want to call it)
    Data Bearer: Packet Data
    Access Point Name: vpn.com
    User Name: wapuser1
    Prompt Password: No
    Password: wapuser
    Authenticaiton: Normal
    Homepage: None
Use Access Point: After Confirmation (or change if you want something else)
That's it. When you load the internet radio Application and it lists your options select "Rogers VPN".  If you don't see it in the list, press the soft button for Options then "Select Access Point" and you will see the full list.  If you want the VPN to be the first thing you see you can change the priority under destination settings.  Just select the VPN and press "Organize" then "Change priority".

  • N79 Unable to perform Bluetooth Operation

My 5 months old N79 developed a very annoying problem 3 days ago as it kept on giving me 'Unable to perform Bluetooth Operation' each time I tried to swith the Bluetooth on, Also the FM Radio refuses to power on too. I'm just so disturbed with these two problems as I'm so confused of what to do now.
I've tried the possible means I knew - Hard reset, formatting, (even up to  times) I've also re-installed the firmware with NSU, all to no avail
I'm patiently awaiting responses towards getting rid of this ugly problem on my phone. th
    Thanks in advance
Below is an attchment of the error that comes out each time I tried to power on the Bluetooth
    Attachments:
    Error.jpg ‏22 KB

From the screenshot you have attached, it seems your 3G is working simultaneously... also there seems a USB connection too.. Remove the USB.. disconnect from 3G and then see if you are getting the same error...
If its no more then next connect the 3G and try again... If now its working then the USB and Bluetooth activation togather is the problem..
    Keep posting your feedback..

  • ..the strange case of radio fm and bluetooth speak...

    Hi everyone,
I've just bought a bluetooth speaker ("Supertooth disco") and I successfully connected it to my Nokia N79.
It works fine with music stored in my mobile, but I can't get it work with radio fm.
Obviusly I know that earphones are needed: I connect them to my nokia, and then I select the option which activates speakers. But the result is that sound comes from my mobile's speakers, not my - already connected - bluetooth speaker.
However I noticed a very strange phenomenon:
    - While radio is running on mobile speakers, I disconnect and rapidly reconnect earphones
    - Suddenly my bluetooth speaker disconnects too and reconnects on his own
    - As soon as it reconnects, for a couple of seconds... sound finally comes from the bluetooth speaker!
-...but then comes back to my mobile's speakers.
This fact made me think that there is a way to send radio sound to my bluetooth speaker. It seems that "something", at a certain moment, takes it back to the phone.. if only I could stop that "something", I could happily listen to my radio using the bluetooth speaker.
What do you think about that? Any idea of what's happening?
Thank you very much to any creative person who will take care of this issue

  • Nokia Internet Radio (v1.16) Crashes When Station ...

The Internet Radio player on my N85 is no longer able to access the station directory.  It loads the list of stations (Browse by Language, Genre or Country/Region, or from Search) and a second after the list of stations appears on the screen, Internet Radio shuts down (I end up back at the screen that lets me select FM Radio or Internet Radio).  This has just started happening.
I have tried restoring factory settings, uninstalling Internet Radio and downloading and reinstalling it.  The problem still occurs.  I also tried downloading and going back to a prior version of Internet Radio (v1.12) but the phone won't allow me to install it (!Upgrade Error ).
Is anybody else having this problem?  Any solutions or work arounds?

Yeah I used the App manager to remove "internet Radio - keyspace". On my N79 there is only the "Radio" icon in the Music folder (to start up both the FM & Internet radio) and unfortunately there isn't a "remove" item under the option menu when you highlight the radio icon. Perhaps because it comes as part of the firmware rather than a 3rd party installed app, the "remove" option gets removed.... Just checked and the "remove" option is available when you look at icons under the applications folde...ummm
I've seen other posts about doing a hard reset of the device but I need to get my courage up before I try that!

  • N79 FM Transmitter

Hello all , I wish to know whether the FM tranmitter of N79 is stereo.
I tried to play audio files from music player with fm transmitter on. But i get on mono downmix audio in fm receiver, though the same audio file play as stereo in music player.
I m not sure if hardware is not capable to transmitting stereo or signal is weak.
Please gurus brief me on this. Also is there any way to boost the n79 fm tranmitter signal strength?

FM tranmitter of N79 is stereo. but it depends on Radio station that you are listing to.
sorry there is no way to boost FM tranmitter signal strength.

  • Why nokia uses very cheap plastic for N79?

I bought a Nokia N79 for 350 € one month ago. Although my ultimate care and even I used a special protecting case for the phone, there were little scratches all over the front plastic cover. I wonder why nokia used very cheap plastic on the front cover for a very expensive mobile phone?

Volume increases in 10 steps and last step, from 90 to 100% is like someone that suddenly turn a 1000w speaker right in your ear. :-) This is not normal and it was so easy to fix before to sell this phone. Maybe no-one tryed the phone before to sell it.
Album Art search is an automatic procedure from iTunes to Winamp. I don't have to use pcsuite, don't have to download from phone. Btw it doesn't appear, better than an error.
Let me say, about the clock alarm. I'm a doctor. To have something complete to make quick photos to wounds, procedures and so on or make videos, I thought this could be a great phone. I used the phone alarm of this phone only two times and never use it again. I lost a morning appointment and to awake for the night turn. It sound funny now, but let's try to imagine my anger when for years I used a cheaper phone, never getting late. I don't sell nuts, with all of my respect for nuts seller.
Why do I have to use another piece of software when the included one should function? It is like to harvest an arbor because it doesn't give you fruits without trying to think why and look for a solution. Did I give too much water? Is it infested by some bugs?
Symbian UIQ, rest in piece, decided to use Opera Mini as defalt browser. That is a cure. If Symbian OS doen't want to use it has to solve its bugs quickly or send an advice through that stupid My Nokia service saying that browsing experience will not be so easy.
You buy a phone because you don't want a Ferrari. You buy a phone for the specifications write on the box. In Florence, you can't try the phone before, sorry man. It would be really nice but you can't. You buy for radio and radio doesn't work, you buy for camera and shoot button doesn't do auto-focus, (now repaired), you buy for a simple mp3 player and you are going to lose audition, you buy for a phone and thanks God it works . You give every single cents hoping for a positive experience and you change manufactuer because this one gives you - now - what you are looking for. I'm not a SE, Motorola or Nokia fan. I read reviews and compare trying to have an idea. That's what we do, all of us.
I respect your point of view about S60, I am excited about wonderful programs to watch divx - by the way tv-out is choppy, ugly and something to not try if you have an n79; I thought it could be wonderful for my presentation... let's forget it - to do sport and to buy some useful cheap, read the humour, map for Nokia Maps. No, really I know this is a great software, I love open source and hope that will arrive more and better apps when it will be open, but you buy a phone for what's on. Not for what it could do in future with bug fixes. Tomorrow I will sell it and maybe never see that bug fixed.
An example: Apple. IMHO is getting worst that before. I'm not an Apple fan but I have to admit that it knows how to work with software and hardware. It prefeared not to put mms and other functions on its iphone because...
...who knows. The point is: less software to fix means better experience for end-user and quality of firmware releases. With three, or something similar, releases Apple covered many of what the users cryed for in less than two years. Remember, every basic function was at best. Nokia sold n79 and 5800 quite in the same time. Firmware release of n79 was ridicolous, 14 pages of fw after four months? What did you sell it for Nokia? Wait four months more. 5800 is an interesting phone, different from the iphone, full of great features and great bugs.
At the end, I respect your idea of evolution of a phone and its getting better day by day, while I need that a phone is ready to go since first start even with some bug, because noone has no bug, but not ridicolous bugs. That's why Nokia pi22ed me off with this n79.

  • N79 Comments

    Hi all,
This is my first post here. I got an N79 for my birthday about 2 weeks ago, and I've gotta say; I'm loving it! The best bits I've found are the FM transmitter, the internet browser, Sports Tracker, and the fact that it is a nice size, and very lightweight!
Since using it for the last few weeks, I've found a few things that can probably be changed via a firmware update, that I would really appreciate.
First off - a few questions
-Where is 'push to talk'? Most websites list it in the spec, but I can't find it on the phone, or in the manual. Has this been removed prior to release?
-When will the next firmware update be? Are they fairly regular, or few and far between?
On the buggy/additional features side of things:
     - The Music Player does not close via the 'Open applications' menu. Pressing the 'c' button does nothing.
Mobbler v0.04(5) and Sports Tracker v2.06 don't close either, but pressing 'c' brings up the 'Do you want to close this' box - Pressing yes just doesn't work.
     - The FM Transmitter should turn off when music player is closed, if it was started from within the Music Player menu. Starting it from the apps menu should keep it on until it is specifically closed.  Perhaps? Just a thought...
    - I'd like to be able to edit the standby screen a bit more.  Specifically; With the horizontal icon bar: I want to be able to remove the "Search content" and 'Share Online' items. I will never use these, and I'd prefer to be able to remove them.
With the vertical icon bar; I'd like to be able to change the default icons in the bar itself.  I don't use the Radio, and I'd rather have the Web application on there, instead of Search.
It seems strange that so much of the phone is customisable (menu's etc), but the standby (and most commonly seen) screen is not.
     - Lastly, I'd like to be able to delete the default bookmarks folders. ie. Web feeds, Saved Pages, Download Sounds etc. Or, at least be able to group them into a single folder, to hide them.
Do any of the software dev's come on here, or is there another way to get suggestions and requests to them?
Sorry for the long post, I've been saving these up for a while
Edit; by the way, I'm running 11.049 RM-348

Well I have used my N79 now for 6 months.
    - Don't know about Push to Talk. Maybe Nokia has failed with it.
    - Well if phone sales very much (like N95) FW updates will be pretty regurarly, but I think N79 is not very common and there maybe will be like 2 or 3 updates wich hopefully fix bugs and make phone faster and more stable. Next update may come tomorrow or someday in future.. : S ( N96 had it last update like 6 months ago and it is pretty buggy (I have read allaboutsymbian.com))
    - I have noticed that music player can't be shutdown thing too
    - No comment to Mobler or Sport tracker thing
    -  Agree with your FM transmitter idea!! It sounds great!
    - Well you can modify those small icon shortcuts trought:  tools --> settings -->general --> personalisation --> stanbymode --> shortcuts.
Online share you can take away from there by updating Share online to version 4.3 and and there is option to take it away from stanby mode.
    - I agree with deleting those stupid folders from my web browser.
Hope this help to something and at least wake up some Nokia developers to do something. Also you should go check That N79 FW 11.049 bug thread and submit your bugs there.
And what comes to Nokia's web browser, it is very slow to use when comparing to iPhones Safari, wich realy is fast to use.

  • FM Transmitter in N79

How to use FM transmitter in N79? Is handsfree necessory for the transmission? I'm not able to access. Please help.

FM transmitterAbout the FM transmitterThe availability of this feature may vary by country.
At the time of printing, the FM transmitter part of
this equipment is intended to be used in the
    following countries: Belgium, Czech Republic,
    Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland,
    Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal,
    Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden,
and the United Kingdom. For the latest information
and the list of non-European countries where the
FM transmitter can be used, see www.nseries.com/
fmtransmitter. Before using the feature in a foreign
    country, see www.nseries.com/fmtransmitter to
    check if use is permitted.
With the FM transmitter, you can play songs in your
device through any compatible FM receiver, such as
a car radio or a home stereo system.
The operating distance of the FM transmitter is up
to a maximum of 3 metres (10 feet). The
transmission may be subject to interference due to
obstructions, such as walls, other electronic devices,
or from public radio stations. The FM transmitter
may cause interference to nearby FM receivers
operating on the same frequency. To avoid
interference, always search for a free FM frequency
on the receiver before using the FM transmitter.
The FM transmitter cannot be used at the same time
as the FM radio of your device.
The operating frequency range of the transmitter is
    from 88.1 to 107.9 MHz.
When the transmitter is on and transmitting sound,
is displayed in the standby mode. If the
transmitter is on, but not transmitting anything,
is displayed and a periodic tone sounds. If the
transmitter is not transmitting anything for several
    minutes, it switches off automatically
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

I purchased songs from iTunes Radio on my iPhone, but now the only place they will show up is in the iTunes Store app on my phone, even after syncing to my computer a million times, the songs do not show up in my library or anywhere else. My phone is not syncing properly, I wanted to add another playlist to it that I created on my Mac. I pluged in my phone and made sure the playlist I wanted to add was checked to be on my phone when I synced.
The playlist I wanted to add was "Country." It is clearly checked. I also wanted to add the "Recently Added" playlist, which I also checked before sycing. Currently, my phone only has the "Purchased" playlist and my "All Songs" playlist on it. When I hit sync, iTunes added another playlist automatically added another playlist to the list above and checked it. It was titled "ALL SONGS 1" and had ten fewer songs in it than the playlist I had created, "ALL SONGS" had. This playlist, however does not show up on my phone after syncing, nor does "Country" or "Recently Added." (Every time I sync, another playlist is created as "ALL SONGS 2, 3, 4, etc.") One of the songs (I have not, yet checked the other songs) that I purchased from within iTunes Radio shows up in the "ALL SONGS 1" on this screen:
But does not show up anywhere else. This playlist does not show up anywhere but the two screens above. The ALL SONGS 1 or 2 playlists do not show up here:
When I search for those song in my library, it shows that I do not have them:
But if I go to the iTunes store, I get the play button and not the price of the song:
This is what things look like from my phone's side of things:
"Summertime Sadness," one of the songs I bought from iTunes Radio, does not show up in the iTunes store under purchased "All" or "Not on This iPhone"
But, it does show up under "Recent Purchases"
Also, this is what playlists are on my phone after syncing a million times:
Only what was on there before I started any of this. "Summertime Sadness" and the other songs I bought from inside iTunes Radio, do not show up in either of these playlists. Please, help me.

    Hello,

Hi there I just bought iWeb08 and I had to rebuild my site for several reasons. As you know, iWeb uses the page name as a filename. And since almost all my pages have accent (I'm french after all :D), they are no longer supported in any browser. But
