N95 8GB No JPG Compression Setting!!!

It is a shame that this phone has no JPEG compression setting. It has a Carl Zeiss lens with 5M pixels, but it doesn't really matter. Because, the compression setting is so high. Usually, a 5M pixel jpeg is about 1.5 - 2.0 Mbytes. However, this phone compress the pics down to 700 kbytes!!!! The images result in grainy and blocky as hell. NOKIA please update the firmware and add a setting for the compression. If you google, many of the N95 users are complaining about this issue. Even please let us to store images in raw format. The Carl Zeiss lens becomes useless at this point.

It depends on the firmware version and on the type of image you've just shot. Some of the photos I took with my N95 were 1.6 to 2 MB in size, regularly around 1.0 to 1.2 MB and rarely below 800 KB.

When I turn my Nokia N95 8GB on I always have to set the time and date, even when i've not removed the battery. I turn my phone off at night and in the morning when I turn it back on I have to set the time and date again and again and again, every single time I turn it back on. Does anybody know what's going on?

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Calendar alarm default setting

I have searched high and low here and in the user manual however, have not found the answer to my query, so I hope you will forgive me if this topic has been covered before.
I use the Calendar extensively to remind myself of appointments and birthdays etc. When making a new entry I choose Meeting and go through the process of creating that new entry entering the Subject, Location, Start time, End time, Start Date, End date and when you get to the Alarm setting is is set to the default of OFF. I want to know if this can be changed to Default to ON. It is driving me a little crazy that, as you are setting something to remind you, surely the alarm default should be ON.
Please stop me from going crazy...
    Thanks
    Oldrose52

The reason the alarm is defaulted to off, is that you can set your calender to homescreen and see meetings and to do notes, plus if it's a meeting the alarm probably needs to be set prior to the meeting ( so you have time to get there). If it was set automatically to say 30 minutes before, it wouln't really help if you were  2 hrs away. Besides which it takes about a second to turn it on !
    Good Luck

  • How to set up email access on N95 8GB?

    Hi
    I have an N95 8GB.
I have recently added a data bolt on for accessing work email from my phone and would like to receive a text/message when I receive a new email.
Problem is I can't find any information on how to set this up.
    This link looked perfect:
    http://www.knowyourmobile.com/nokia/nokian95/nokian95internet/2533/setting_up_email_on_the_nokia_n95...
but  following it through on my phone doesn't come up with the same options etc.
So far I have gone to 'messaging', selected 'change me', then - Options - Email Settings - Connection Settings - Incoming e-mail.
    Here I am stuck.
Is my username my email address?
Is my password my email account password?
What is my incoming mail server?
What is my access point in use?
What setting should security ports be on?
The settings also say that I cannot have email notifications and email retrieval together. What does this mean?
I would really appreciate it if anyone out there can help.
    Thank you

Hi, I'm a newbie at this, so pls be patient with my terminology...  I want to install 2 or 3 of these cameras in my mother's home, and I will have AT&T DSL service (one dynamic IP address) there with only a modem/wireless router.  I want to access the cameras from my laptop or from my Blackberry Tour when I am traveling.  Also want to allow access for my other relatives.  I do not have another home computer to serve as a WHS, and my laptop is obviously not connected to the internet all of the time.  Can I use the DDNS setup with DynDNS to provide access?  The instructions that I read seemed to imply that I needed a WHS in order to forward ports, etc.  Thanks in advance for your help.. • Setting up email on Nokia n95 8gb

Can anyone help with my problem. I have an ntl email account which I have set up on my nokia n95 8gb. I am on the vodafone network. I can send email no problem but I cannot receive them on my mobile. I have asked vodafone for help but got no where. They suggested I go to nokia website and use advance settings to configure my phone for ntl email to be set up which I have done. But because i still could't receive emails they then told me to take it to a vodafone store for them to look at which I did, they altered the settings but the problem not able to receive emails is still there. I keep getting asked for my user name and password over and over after I click ok. I have checked they are correct numerous times. Vodafone says its a problem that lies with the nokia handset and ntl !! If the ntl server isn't compatible with the handset how come I can send emails but not receive and how come nokia website gave me a code to configure my phone to set up ntl email using vodafone network. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Nokia N95 8GB Album Art and Album Folders Issue

I have been hunting for for a resolution for two issues with the N95 8GB Media Player all over the web.
    1. Adding artwork (CD Covers) to audio tracks (or albums) seems to be at best hit and miss. Most of the time it just does not work.
    2. Deleting an album delete all the tracks but deleting the album folder seems almost impossible.
Well this weekend I decided to try to solve this and I think I may have hit upon a solution.
Since so may people have the same problem I thought it worth repeating. I would stress this has not been exhaustively tested but it does work reliably so far.
I am using Nokia Music Manager 2.0. The fix is simply to convert the files to AAC rather than to M4A (which is the default). After this simple change everythig worked find for me. I can add and delete albums from Nokia Music Manager 2.0 (don't forget to refresh on the phone afterwards) AND reliably add Album Artwork.
So here is how I have been working.
    1. Set the conversion format to AAC. I have been using 'Ultra high' quality setting. Options Menu >> Setting >> Conversion Tab.
    2. Next put in a CD, select all the tracks and choose copy to my collection.
    3. While this is going on I find the artwork on the Web. A simple Google Image search with the album title and artists last name / band name seems pretty 100% to get the on the first page. Download image to My Documents / My Pictures.
    4. Once the CD Rip is complete they will all appear in My Collection. I select all the tracks in my collection for the album in question, and then right click on one of them and select Edit.
    5. I then attach the Album Artwork by clicking on the blue folder and choosing it from my, MY Pictures folder.
    6. Finally select Copy to Phone from the File Menu.
This has worked for me so far 100% and I have done 20 or so albums.
    NOTES:
To get Nokia Music Manager 2.0 I uninstalled the version of Nokia Phone Suite that came with my phone and went to
http://europe.nokia.com/A4144905I (or seach Google for "nokia phone suite"
I chose the N95 8GB downloaded and installed. At some point shortly after install Phone Suite informed me that there were updates available and Nokia Music Manager 2.0 was one of these.
I was originaly using this and suffered all the problems you guys have. After searching the web and finding no solution I decided to do some experimenting.
    Hope all this helps.
PS If you need to delete all your legacy album folders, this is the fix I found on this same site. You can do this at any time.
    1. Enable the option to be able to see Hidden Files and Folders in your Windows Explorer.
    2. Connect your n95 8gb to your computer and choose data transfer mode.
    3. Go to My COmputer >> Nokia Phone Browser >> Nokia N95 8GB >> Memory Card E:
    3. If you have selected Show Hidden Files and Folders (see 1) you should see a folder called Private.
    4. In the Private folder you need to delete the contednts of three folders
    \private\101FFC31 (mpxv1.mpd and pcv5.mpd)
    \private\101f8857\Cache
    \private\101ffca9
In all the 3 folders delete all the files Not the FOLDER
Next time you restart the music player it will rebuild the indexes without the deleted albums folders.
Hope this helps someone. It restored my sanity.

    Album Art
    Basically there are two methods
    Method 1.
You do it on the phone. Load the album art pictures to the memory card. (Must be JPEG NOT BMP)
    Load also the music files.
Open Music application in the phone. Open an album then select Options->Album art then Options-> Add, browse for the picture and select Ok.
    Repeat for each ALBUM
    Method 2.
You do it on the PC.
Get a Tag editing software like Tag&Rename, WINAMP, etc.
Edit the files Metadata to include Album Art picutres (again they should be jpeg and also they should be set as Cover Front).
Transfer the files that have Album Art using File transfer (usb mass storage) don't use MTP or PC Suite as these methods may convert the files and Album Art will be lost.
Or you can continue using your Method

  • N95 8GB reboots periodically in data transfer mode

I have a new N95 8GB running firmware v20. Unfortunately, when I use the genuine USB cable and select "Data Transfer Mode" the phone reboots 60 seconds after I connect the cable (and thereafter each 60 seconds when I don't touch the phone).
I have tried with a non-genuine cable and the behaviour is the same.
Coincidentally the "Power Save Time-out" is set to 60 seconds. When I change this to another value, say 40 seconds, then the above rebooting happens every 40 seconds.
This appears to be a phone bug and makes it extremely difficult to use data transfer mode, unless you can transfer files within the power save time-out period, or unless you are prepared to press a button on the phone within this period.
    **Nokia please fix this**
    See related post: /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&thread.id=81967&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

Well, rotateme works perfectly for me and i have a n95 8gb too.So there are two things that might happening.
1.You are doing something wrong with the whole installation(does rotateme works when you install it?)
2.You downloaded your self a corrapted or somekind of a virus or a bug .sis file and installed it to your phone.
Why dont you try to download one other rotateme file for you?You can find plenty rotateme from a lot of users.I can send you mine,if you want send me an e-mail and i`ll send to you the .sis file that i used and as i said,it works fine for me.
    Peace

  • N95 8GB Rotate

    All,
I just updated my N95 8GB to version 20.0.016 and now have the 'Rotate' feature as standard.
But I can't get it to work. I have set 'Rotate' to automatic in display settings but the screen will not move.
I suspect that the firmware has shipped without the accelerometer plugin. Can someone confirm that I will need this?
If I do need this then the questions is - why has the firmware shipped without it?

it only can rotate to 2 directions. one to the left and one to the right after u to the left.that's means u can only view it in portraits mode and in a left landscape mode. u can view it in the right landscape mode when playing game and watching video by changing the settings at the game or in the video player that u installed. sorry for my bad English.

  • N95 8gb - Browsing WAP in other countries

    Hi,
I have a Nokia N95 8gb thru Vodafone UK which was unlocked at the time of purchase.
I browse the internet no problems in the UK. When I have travelled to other EU countries (Ireland, Greece) I can make and receive calls with no issues using a pre-paid card however have not been able to browse the internet.
I went into a Vodafone Ireland store to enquire about this. They SMS me the settings I need to load into my phone which I did however it still would not browse the internet when it should have. I went back to Vodafone Ireland and they then stated I need to download some software from the Nokia site to enable my phone to browse the internet internationally.
Have looked at the Nokia website under N95 8gb however can not see anything specific to my issue or any software that I can download to resolve.
Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Vodafone are talking rubbish. There is no software that will allow you to browse internationally.
They are just trying to fob you off.
It is their responsibility to set you up for international browsing. Give them a call as the people at the store are just sales people with very little knowledge.

  • [N95 8Gb] No more MP3 ringtones and message tones....

    Hi,
Last night I cleared my N95 8Gb of all the music and tranferred some new albums with Nokia Music afterwards. Now I'm not able to select any song or sound effect from my music collection as ringtone anymore!!
I can select a song in Music Player and set it as ringtone but I cannot go via settings and browse my MP3's... The same goes for message tones: I'm only able to select the standard **bleep** ringtones and none of the sound effects I uploaded as MP3 using Nokia Music.
I beginning to be amazed at how **bleep** Nokia Music can possibly be: before, everything worked like a charm and I was totally pleased with my N95 8Gb but now I can't even do the most basic things due to this piece of junk that Nokia calls Nokia Music...

I have a similar problem (N95-1). All the songs i have (about 400+) will not show up. When i remove the memory card, all the songs on the phone shows up. Try this fix (I am using the latest firmware).
Navigate to the Home Media App (Main Menu>Tools>Connectivity>Home Media), Share Content: Select Options (Left Softkey), then refresh contents. It will take some time depending on the number of songs, videos and photos you have. After it has finished refreshing, you should be able to select any song from the phone or memory card from within the tones menu.

  • PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE! - my N95 8GB only disconne...

My Phone is a Nokia N95 8GB with firmware v.31.0.015 and I'm trying to update to v.35.0.001, which is the latest firmware for my product code.
I have updated the firmware of this phone using Nokia Software Updater at least 2 times before successfully on the same computer as I'm using now. This time the phone only disconnects during the update and the program asks me to disconnect charger/battery/usb cable, and to reconnect them again and click "Retry". But it it's always the same all the time - it disconnects. I have tried re-installing all Nokia programs, I've tried running NSU by itself, from Nokia PC Suite and I've tried the updater from Ovi Suite (but it tells me that v.31.0.015 is the latest firmware!?).
The good thing is that the phone is still working properly but it has the old firmware, v.31.0.015.
Please, does anyone have any clue what the problem can be?
I am hoping for the updated NSU 2.4, but it has not been released yet, despite announced by a Nokia Employee on this discussion furumsome weeks ago.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is nothing wrong with phone itself , so "Reset" will not help. You can have a few problems, already (like corrupted communications drivers between Nokia and PC). My advise is to do this in few steps. First to clean old Nokia PC Suit.
    1. download: "Nokia_PC_Suit_Cleaner_7_1_1.exe" and rid off old installation.
    2. download: "Nokia_PC_Suit_7_1_40_1_eng_web.exe" and install like any other Nokia PC Suit including connection manager and so on but do not go to "Nokia Software Updater", yet. It will not work.
    3. download: "NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup.exe" but do not install, yet. (so do not hit "run" after downloading)
    4. Find just downloaded above file of Software Updater and with cursor on this file click right button. In Windows7 there is "Troubleshoot Compatibility" option. Just hit it and windows will sort it out. On the next window hit "Try Recommended Setting".
On the follow up window there will be an information about applied compatibility mode and "Run The Program" button. Just hit it and install this "Software Updater". This also will replace original installation of software updater which is included with new Nokia PC Suit.
For me this is the cleanest way do solve this problem. It showed me compatibility with "WindowsXP Service Pack 2".
I do not know what operating system you are using. I am using Windows7 64 bits without any problems.
Probably you can try go stright to property of this downloaded file and do this changes in compatibility option by yourself.
By the way it is hardly to see any sagnificant improvement by comparing both versions. I hope it will help. Bye.
