N95 Mass storage connection issue.

I have a strange problem with my N95. When I connect to my PC Vista cannot install the drivers for the mass storage/data transfer application. The drivers for PC suite, media player and image print work fine, but it appears that the drivers for Mass Storage are not on the CD.
I decided to upgrade my firmware to attempt to solve the problem, but when using Nokia Software Updater, the program stalls at the detecting device stage (step 2/3).
Can anyone help? As without the ability to connect the phone as a mass storage device, I cannot use Nokia Map Loader (again it will not detect my phone - despite PC suite detecting it fine)

i also have the same problem, but wonder why no one has replied a solution to this issue. as you describe exact same problem. if anything ive found with this phone so far, its a NIGHTMARE.
there was definatly a problem with the firmware when it was first shipped, after this was updated fixed some things, but the WLAN wouldnt work and needed alot of research online to fix it, nokia support to note didnt have a clue. The problem i had was due to setting the aerial to always on, and not power saving. Anyway if someone has an answer as to why the mass storage driver wont install and so i can put the nokia maps on the phome, it would be much appreciated.

  • Asha 501- usb mass storage connectivity issues.

hey guys, I've just connected my phone to an android tab using usb mode. 1st thing is it didn't detect my phone as mass storage. 2nd thing is after unplugging my phone, all the content in my memory card seems to be scrambled, everything looks in different language/characters. Not sure what to do apart from reformatting the memory card. Any suggestions...
I tried restarting the phone, reinserted the memory card. All info on memory card is scrambled.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

The map loader tells me the " no storage medium detected".connect your phone via usb. I called nokia USA support line. They did not want to help me since I bought the phone in Europe. "I don't have USB option to select. when I go in the device and open USB, I get the same 3 option. if i select data transfer, it transfers from my pone to pc not vice versa."
    This doesn't make any sense.
    Open USB from Tools.
Then Select "Ask on Connection" and set to YES
    Then connect USB cable.
You will get 4 (repeat) 4 options to connect:
    PC SUITE
    DATA TRANSFER
    IMAGE PRINT (OR PICTBRIDGE)
    MEDIA PLAYER (MUSIC TRANSFER)
    Select DATA TRANSFER.
If these options don't pop up then you have a bad phone or memory card.
What do you mean "if i select data transfer, it transfers from my pone to pc not vice versa."
PC SUITE Mode, DATA transfer and MEDIA PLAYER allow to tranfer files from the device to PC and viceversa what do you mean? explain STEP BY STEP what you do, because I'm lost.

  • 'mass storage' connection option showing error mes...

Up until a yesterday , my phone was working fine . Then , yesterday , when I tried to connect it to my PC via the nokia-provided USB cable , things went kaput.
The phone began by working normally, asking me to select a connectivity option, while my computer gave me the message that it had detected a new MTP device , and then asked me to insert the disc that might have come with this device. I cancelled this , as always, and selected the 'mass storage' option on my phone. At this point , the phone gave me this error message :-
"Memory card in use by another application. Please wait."
and the computer , instead of treating the phone like an external storage device , began going through the same sequence of " found MTP device . Please insert disc " over and over . This is happening even after I reset my phone to factory settings. What do I do now ?
    Can anyone please help ?

Are you sure you selected Mass Storage mode on your phone in the connection prompt, and not Nokia Suite / Ovi Suite / PC Suite? If you have restored your phone to factory settings and are stil having problems, then you will need to take your phone to your local Nokia Care point for them to inspect.

  • N95 Mass storage mode

how can i transfer my device to the "mass storage mode" to be able to download maps?
    thank you

Hmm maybe you have used the Maps app. while you were connected via USB to your computer. Disconnect your phone from the pc (you may format your card if you don't have any important data on it, just for safe ), run the Map application once to create the folders as mentioned above. Connect your phone to your computer via USB Mass storage mode (described above), then use the Nokia Map Loader application. I couldn't download maps to my phone either, because it was connected to my computer all the while! You have to connect your phone to the computer just for the time you are downloading the maps. So I think that will be your problem too. I hope I could help.

  • Kyocera Brigadier as mass storage connecting to Debian Linux

Hi all. I have a new Kyocera Brigadier but I can't get it to transfer files using Debian. The phone is running Android 4.4.2 and I'm using Debian Wheezy 64bit current. I set the android to Media Sync Mode but I can't find it as a device. If I don't set it to Media Sync Mode, then it registers as a CDRom but I can only see a few system folders (looking into the ISO), not anywhere to put my music files. Thoughts?
    Here is a dmesg http://paste.debian.net/163512/
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-106426/ My phone, but I don't have the Mass Storage option.
Why is it difficult to transfer files when Android is Linux-based? I've never had a problem like this before. I've had an ADP1 and an Android X2 before and this never happened until now.
I found this thread Kyocera Brigadier as mass storage but that was for Mac.
    Thanks!

You need to install the Android File Transfer application for Mac in order to get the mass storage functionality on your Mac.

  • Mass Storage Driver Severe Crash - USB Mass Storage device useless

I am running the latest, updated version of OSX Leopard; Hardware Growler; and Parallels Desktop. Today, as I was doing a very resource-intensive task on Windows XP - via parallels - I plugged in my Samsung M610 to try to access the memory card. I then closed Windows XP, and noticed that my cpu was still registering at 100% output. Opening Activity Monitor and looking at the processes there, I saw that Mass Storage was taking 100.00 units of CPU output, and was not responding, I immediately clicked end process. Much to my dismay however, Activity Monitor then proceeded to lock up, so I forced it to quit, which caused finder to lock up in turn. Throughout this time, my cpu was still working overtime, so I decided to power the computer off. Upon rebooting and much "whew"-ing I tried to plug my Cell Phone in again; as usual Hardware Growler notified me of the connection and it's details, however, confusingly finder had no knowledge of any mass storage connection. After multiple connects and reconnects, testing all USB ports on my MBP (and being annoyed by the system telling me to properly find and eject hardware before removing it, which I suppose I should take as a good sign) my memory card remained invisible to finder. Hardware growler continues to perfectly recognize the device connection.
The most odd thing about this particular problem, is that other USB devices are recognized... at least one other Mass storage device is, but I have only one other device to test at the moment.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mass storage issues (does not play in car on home stereo) after upgrading to V4.5

I am having issues with Mass Storage after upgrading my 8130 to V4.5.  I can no longe hook the device to my home stereo or car stereo to play music. My computer does read the device.  It is not my media card.  I still have my old blackberry: the card shows up on both phones and computers.  It is not my cables as they work with my old phone.  I have also done all the obvious things like pull the battery and play with the media card setting
This guy had the same issue though i never saw resolution:
Any idea is appreciated! After upgrading the device software to version 4.5 earlier this week (BlackBerry 8800 with v4.5.0.69 (platform 2.7.0.72)) as proposed by T-Mobile and RIM Germany something has changed with the behaviour when connecting via USB as a mass storage device:
Using a micro-SD card with 2 GB for some months now as a storage for MP3-Files which can be played with my Blue&Me system in my car. This is some kind of Microsoft Windows mobile platform (Automotive) providing playback of MP3-files etc connected via USB. This was never a problem with the previous software. It behaved as it should. Here is an example of what it previously did (taken from http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&thread.id=3...):
"On your Blackberry device, you may or may not first see a message about insufficient current. It just means you can't charge your Blackberry with that PC USB port. Hit the escape key once (on your Blackberry device). You will be prompted a question : do you want to activate USB Mass Storage Mode. You can answer YES or NO. Answer YES."
The message about insufficient current is important here because the Blue&Me system does not provide the current as proposed by USB-standards. Anyway after clicking this message/warning away the Blue&Me would recognize the mass storage and start playback.
After upgrading to v4.5 there is no warning about current any more and the mass storage can't be recognized. I've checked both components: The B&M works fine with any other USB-devices connected, and the BB works fine with Windows after connecting via USB (presumably because there is enough current!). All standard settings in Options/Media card for enabling mass storage have been tested but without success.
Hopefully someone whose genius far exceeds mine will help me with this.  Thank You.

I have exactly the same issue with my car stereo equiped with USB and my 8130 device. OS 4.3 works fine (and displays the "insuficcient current" message) and after upgrading to 4.5 mass storage mode not works anymore. And of course it works with regular desktop/notebook computers. I've made many experiments with different storage cards (now I use SDHC 8G from SanDisk). The card works fine if I attach it through card reader in my car, it even see multiple drives which cardreader creates.
Even more I wrote the small blackberry application in java (i'am professional programmer) and ordered BB keys for $20 to deploy it to device. The program uses the RIM api call Device.requestStorageMode() which in my opinion should turn on storage mode of device. But the result was the same - car audio don't see the mass storage with OS 4.5.
Interesting fact that in OS 4.3 the message about "insufficient current" appears BUT the device CHARGES via this USB without a problem. The same case with OS 4.5 - charging device is possible.
Also, I can't switch to OS 4.3 because it have the serious problem with bluethooth connections - it suddenly lost my handsfree link and its very bad if I get incomming call during driving and my handsfree not work.
Forgot to mention - now I have the OS 4.5.0.127
    Michael.

Hello xaxu and welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
Thanks for your question on Mass Storage mode.
Currently, Mass Storage mode is supported when the BlackBerry® smartphone is connected to a Windows® or Mac® based computer system.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • K8N SLI Issue - USB Mass Storage Issue

New install.  I have an issue with the USB Mass Storage device on my Canon printer.
When the machine boots, it pauses just on bootup for about 5 minutes.  Pauses right after displaying the CPU information.
It eventually boots up into windows, but shows a yellow exclamation mark on 'USB Mass Storage Device'.  I have tried uninstalling the printer drivers and reinstalling with no luck.  If I pull the USB printer plug and then boot, I have no issues.
I've upgraded to the newest bios.  I feel like even if I could fix the Windows driver issue, it might not help since the main pause is in the Bios startup...
    Any ideas?

    hi Zepp,
    Welcome to the forum
Most common issue with usb is front case USB lead. if you have a lead connected to jusb1 or jusb2 on the mobo disconnect it & see if u still have issues. The reason is shown if your front usb does NOT work with your k7n2 board read this you'll see from the title it's not just the neo4
Have you a usb memory stick or anything else plugged in.
    luck

  • Connecting to mass storage and printers on another router

I have my wireless router connected to another router that router is connected to the internet. My wireless connection works fine getting to the internet, but I am unable to see the other items connected to the first router. This would be my network printer and mass storage. What can I do?

Windows uses a protocol called SMB to connect to network shares. You will need to route ports 139, 445, and possibly 137 between the 2 networks. Unless you have a specific reason I would dump the non-wireless router. Having 2 routers is asking for problems and making your network overly complicated.

  • N97 restarts when connecting to PC via Mass Storag...

    Hi guys,
My friend has a N97 and she changed the font using E:\Resource\Fonts\ folder method. The font was successfully changed; however, she didn't like it.
So she decided to change back the font, but whenever she connects the N97 to PC via "Mass Storage" mode, the phone restarts itself, and by that I mean EVERY SINGLE TIME it'll restart.
Therefore we tried "PC Suite" mode, but we're unable to make any changes to the Fonts folder (ie delete / rename / cut-paste).
I've also tried using X-plore, but whenever I try to delete the [s60snr.ttf/etc...] files, xplore will give me an error: "Can't Delete File: E:\Resource\Fonts". I'm sure that the file isn't in "read-only" if that helps anyone.
The fonts are stored in the 30gb internal memory inside the N97, so it's impossible to swap out the memory and delete on another phone/computer.
    I appreciate any answers

    Hi Guys,
I had same problem with my N97 mini. I do not have external memory card. I installed 'FONTS' in my mass memory. Font changed but if I connect my phone in mass storage mode, phone resets.
    Here is what I did,
    1. Copy all my data in PC using PC suit mode ( I suspect back utility will not work here because it will restore the back up including fonts folder in mass memory. I am not sure though). Also copy RESOURCE folder in your PC ( you can delete fonts folder in this copied folder in PC. I made a mistake of copying only RESOURCE folder you can copy all the folders from mass memory and restore it later.
    2. disconnect the phone from PC
    3. Open , Office --> File mgr. --> Mass Memory --> got to options --> Scroll down --> format mass memory.
    That's it.
Your phone will be 'shut down' after formatting is completed.
Restart the phone connect it to PC suit. You might not be able to see mass memory. In that case connect it in ' mass memory' mode. You can find your phone is not resetting. Copy RESOURCE folder from PC with out fonts folder.
You may reinstall firmware and reinstall all the application you need.
It worked form me. Hope it works for you. Do it on your own risk. Do not forget to copy the data from mass memory.
You may find HARD RESET options (*#7370#) but it only resets your C drive and not F OR G Drive.
If you have installed Fonts in G (External memory). I guess you can just remove it from phone and remove the fonts folder easily. Just remove external memory use card reader to connect it to PC and remove.
    CHEERS

  • Can I safely change N95 8GB Mass Storage's name?

I have many software installed on my N95 8GB. I have an option to change the Mass Storage's name.
Is it safe to change the name from "Mass Storage" to something else?
    Thanks.

Yes, the name of the mass storage can be changed with no ill effects.
Software always accesses the mass storage by "drive letter", pretty much the same way Windows does. To see this in action, create a playlist containing a few music files that are on your memory card and then open the resulting playlist file in a text editor. You'll see that all the tracks are referred to as E:\whatever_path\music_file.mp3
Interestingly enough, from a technical point of view, the name assigned to the mass storage is in fact a special kind of file called a "volume identifier". By changing the volume name you're merely renaming this special file.
