N97 Nokia Map

Hi guys,
Anyone know the application name list in the Installed Application:
(Setting --> Application MGR --> Installed apps.)
Nokia Map (7MB)
I uninstalled this application call Nokia Map and I free 7MB from the C.
But my MAP icon still found in the application menu and the MAP is still working fine.
Ohhhh dear, what had I done ?
I also don't know ........
This morning I notice the latest update of OVI MAP (9MB).
After I download the update from OVI and installed, the Nokia Map is appear in the Installed apps. list again with 7MB. shhhhhh
** the goal is to free more memory of my N97, I might uninstall all the application until the phone is NO MORE MEMORY FULL issue.
Best regards
Anderson

Despite the phone being short of RAM you DO need about 20 meg free on C for the phone to run reasonably quickley, there are 100's of threads advising on this, Opera Mini is NOT a memory hog (although Opera Mobile is) there is no need for an anti virus on a symbian phone it is simply a waste of space and resources. Do a search on the forum for optimising memory you will get lots of advice.

    hi everyone..
i desperately need some help here..
I've recently had my n97 software reflashed by a service centre as it kept crashing and was running really slowly. it's got the latest firmware on it but for some reason i can't download the new nokia maps v3. I'm still stuck with the **bleep** v1!
Called Nokia.. they promised a call back within 48 hours.. that was a week ago! Can anybody here help?
    Thanks in advance.

If you can't update your software using Nokia Software Updater, then use OTA SW Updates on phone then the N97 mini version , which you can download to pc then drag and drop to phone will work fine, honestly, I've used it before and all the people I've suggested it to in the past have had no problems

  • N97 Nokia maps "System error" / google maps won't ...

Since my N97 was unboxed Nokia maps has refused to load, it just beeps and says "System error". That's it! Any clues on how to get this working? It's pretty annoying as it's one feature I was looking forward to using.
Funnily enough I installed google maps and that won't open either, but there's no error message, it just makes the screen blink once then back to the menu.
    Any advice appreciated

  • N97 MINI V12 Backup error with Nokia Maps Beta 3.0...

After installation nokia maps 3.06 beta on my fresh hardware reset n97 mini v12 is not possible to make backup from mobile to Memory card from File manager. Phone memory on C: is 220 MB.
With nokia maps 3.04 backup is ok, with 3.06 error: Memory full, operation canceled (kind)
I think firmware upgrade from v12 to v20 delay, the reason nokia maps 3.06 is not perfectly integred full functionaly in new firmware.

have the same problem. I think its a bug in SW 12.. , after a hard reset it worked well until I installed some programs (incl. Maps 3.06). Backup only with PC or Ovi Suite able to do.

  • Dissatisfied N97/Ovi Maps owners - tell Nokia what...

I just noticed that Nokia is running an online survey about Ovi Maps:
    http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps
I have used the opportunity to tell them how lousy the N97 and Ovi Maps 3 combination is.  I hope that all other members of this forum who are dissatisfied will also complete the survey so that Nokia might get the message that something needs to be done!

Three things,One  maps always opens on the last location you had it opened, and finds current location once it gets a gps lock, Two if you haven't dowloaded and pre-installed maps on the phone ( the ones the application reads to navigate) with Nokia Map Loader then it will have to download them 'on the 'fly' which will use a lot of data and slow everything considerably. Last if you only just got the phone, it probably doesn't have Maps3.03 which tends to function much better. Worth checking for software updates both with the software updater on the phone OTA and with Ovi Suite on PC !
    Good Luck

  • Nokia Maps (Navteq) from N96 to N97

    Hi,
Is it possible to move Nokia Maps (Navteq) from N96 to N97 and how?

Map Loader tells me I'm using
    Map Loader 3.0.28.0
    Nokia N97 (Map version 0.1.22.103)
And the phone tells me I'm using
    Maps 3.03(54) (from Betalabs).
There is no Services tab any more, and the Map Loader Help only tells me I can download Maps and Voices. The Help doesn't mention Services.
I got my 3 year Western Europe licence about 18 months ago, for my N95. As soon as I plugged my old sim into the N97, and ran Maps (2.0 at the time) it went off to the internet and "verified" the licence info.
At that time the Map Loader app had a brown interface, and didn't change for a long time. The Services tab gave a priced list of all the extras, and you could buy them through the app. It also explained that you had the choice of whether to link your license to the sim or the phone. I remember thinking it through at the time, and deciding to link it to the sim, because I still have my N95, and sometimes switch the sim into that phone. Since Ovi has taken over the app, all that choice and explanation has gone (at least for me).
Maybe I'm not seeing the Services tab because I'm using the Betalabs version  3.03(54)?
    Edit:-
By the way, I used to get the Services tab when I linked to my N95 running Maps 2.0, but I don't remember the version of Map Loader I used at the time.

  • N97 FM Transmitter is not working in nokia maps

Hi. I don't know if this topic was already discussed here. I didn't find it.
If I have activate the fm-transmitter in my car and nokia maps is running as well, the output of the music comes over the radio, but the output voice of nokia maps comes over the phone. If any advise comes from nokia maps, the connections interrupt via fm-transmitter completly. During the time of the nokia maps advise both, music and nokia maps, sending the sound via phone. Is there any possibility to avoid that problem? Thanks for any help.

This feature is not currently supported by Nokia Maps. (despite it being included in the previous versions of Ovi Maps)
Many Betalabs Users have been requesting this feature for a long time.
To add your support, please join nokia beta labs (if not already) and support the following post:
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-maps-suite-2-0/suggestion/48288/voice-navigation-over-fm-transm...
It is interesting to note that somewhere in the Nokia chain this request has been denied. I have suggested a petition from us (users) may give the Nokia development team the support they need to gain approval for this.

  • Ovi maps and Nokia Maps

I have recently downloaded the ovi maps update for free navigation on my 5800 however now I seem to have 2 programs in my installed apps menu, Ovi maps and Nokia maps. This is causing me some problems as my phones built in memory is now completely full and I am unable to do some things as I have ran out of on phone memory space. Which one is the main map software? And also can I uninstall one? If not then can it be installed on a MSD card and if yes how?

As far as I can determine Ovi maps is the mapping software (program) which installs to C (phone memory) and Nokia maps is the map data that you have loaded which I believe are installed to E (mass memory).
I can confirm that you do need both installed.
The problem as far as I can see is that the previous maps versions 3.01 is built into the current firmware (v20 for N97 - not sure for 5800) and installing maps 3.03 does not remove or overwrite the earlier version so you end up with both versions installed and thus the extra memory footprint.
This will remain a problem until a newer firmware is released which will hopefully have maps 3.03 (or later depending when next firmware is released) thus reducing the extra 9 megs or so used.
    Hope this answers your question

  • N97:Ovi Maps crashes after a few seconds

On N97 I had Ovi maps working like a breeze for some weeks now. All of a sudden I see this behaviour. Open Ovi Maps, see the main page, click on My Location the map appears a message about connecting might cost you something and the Ovi Maps disappears.
What should I do the get Ovi Maps working againg. Oh, btw Internet works just fine.

The original maps app that came with the phone will always be there (like music player or photo viewer or web browser) Maps 3.04 works fine on my N97. Best way to install is to remove (as you said you did) all Nokia/Ovi maps from Installed Applications, then download Ovi Maps 3.04 Beta from Nokia Beta Labs. Then use Nokia Maps Loader on PC to first remove old maps, followed by downloading and installing the map data for your region onto the phone (the stuff the Maps app uses to find where you are and to navigate) to avoid having to download 'on the fly', this speeds everything up and avoids data usage. Maps should then work fine ! Well it works for me !!
    Good Luck

  • My nokia maps are not showing me any info of stree...

i downloaded the free nokia maps app and i cant use it as i used to ... last time i was able to use it was 3 months ago. i am used to using it as a GPS but since the last update i cant now .... my Nokia is N97 mini and i am verry fond of it , if any other have the same problem please do share on how to fix it )

    Hi IvanTsintsev,
Thanks for your post and welcome to Nokia Discussions!
Please perform a hard reset and software update with Nokia Suite to resolve this issue.
Connect your phone to Nokia Suite and make a back up via Tools > Back up. Don't tick the Settings box.
Disconnect your phone from Nokia Suite and enter *#7370# and default security code 12345, unless you've changed this code yourself. When the phone has rebooted, reconnect to Nokia Suite and click on the green arrow icon where you can update the phone's software. If no update is available, please reinstall the current software. This option will be displayed in blue.
When the phone has been updated, restore the back up via Tools > Restore and this should fix the issue. If you're still can't use maps, try uninstalling and reinstalling the maps through Nokia Suite.
Let me know how you get on!

  • Does Nokia Maps need to be online to work sometime...

    Hi all,
I am very confused about the use of the free Nokia Maps applications. I have an N97 mini, and I was using the maps application throughout Egypt last week.
I had the settings placed "offline", and the application would open and would work fine, but whenever I did a search for a place, most times it would not find the place. Even common street names or popular tourist sites, could not be found offline. I then changed the settings to "online", and when I would do the same searches, it now would fine the places and streets.
However, when I checked my mobile phone provider account, using the "online" mode was using up all my phone credit.
So I am confused about whether I must be online to use the Nokia Maps application to find places, or should it work offline. What is the difference? And why does Nokia tell us its free, if in fact it uses up my phone account's data to find places that should already be in the maps application?
So I have 3 main questions I am unsure about:
    1. Do i need to be online to search for some places, as it seems that offline it does not find all places?
    2. If I am online, should it be charging me, or should it still be free?
    3. When I update the maps, as I did, should that not include all the places on the maps that I find in online mode? Or are some places only found if I an online?
I must say we had so many problems using the maps application throughout Egypt- I do not recommend it to anyone for this place. It got us lost so many times, and once we ended up in some isolated poverty stricken town near the Pyramids of Sakkara- it was hell getting back! And it only worked when I went into online mode, and used up all my phone credit.

    Refer these threads..
    /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Ovi-maps-when-offline-search-not-working/m-p/614321/highlight/true#M1668...

    /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/ovi-map-search-offline-problem/m-p/741575/highlight/true#M26571
..and you are getting charged for using the Internet (Packet data) by your service provider and not by Nokia /OVI..

  • According to nokia maps , half my city is on water

i'm using a 6110 navigator with the latest nokia maps for navigation around Alexandria, Egypt. according to nokia maps a great part of the city, although showing streets and names is on water. in other words the map design shows blue water underneath a great part of the city's costal line with streets and complete blocks of buildings shown to exist on water.
this disturbing visual problem exist in the newest egypt map "8.1 Mb". has anyone else noticed this???
Fear not those who argue but those who dodge

I sent my N97 (RM-507) off to the NokiaUSA care center a few weeks ago for the GPS antenna shielding fix.
This past week I updated to v20 firmware, did a hard reset and reinstalled all applications from scratch, including the Maps for the USA.
    I'm running Nokia Maps 3.01 09wk30 b02
    and Maps data version 0.1.22.103
Testing the GPS this morning....outside, no obstructions, clear blue sky....I get 5-9 green bars on the satellite fix, but my position keeps jumping around (including the altitude per Locations) and is 30-40 yards EAST of my actual position relative to the map background.
Using the Search function to locate my actual numeric address, the Maps application puts that about 30-40 yards WEST of the background indication based on the map background.
Thus the total map accuracy is 60-80 yards off EAST/WEST in terms of displayed position versus numerical address!!!
For comparison, I ran a test using Google Maps and allowed it to use the N97's GPS.  Not surprising, it located my position quickly and accurately within about 8-10 yards, though it did continuing moving a bit but never more than about 2-3 yards at a time.
I am running out of patience with Nokia.  The N97 has been out since July 2009 and their Maps software and GPS drivers are probably the worst that I've ever seen in terms of accuracy and stability.
I hear of others using Garmin software on their N97, but until I'm certain beyond a shadow-of-a-doubt that the N97's GPS hardware is stable, accurate and dependable I really don't want to spend the extra money for a 3rd party program and I definitely won't be spending any money on Nokia Map navigation license.

  • N76 Nokia Maps ERROR - STILL not fixed

My N76 has been updated to the latest firmware, but the nokia map application available on the nokia site is not compatible. It says Update Error, and I don't know why. I've used it on my other phones (n5800 and N97), but it won't install on my N76.
There has already been a post about this, but no solution has been given. This is really an emergency.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers

One of the few issues with Acrobat 9 that is peeking above the radar is the C++ error when launching Acrobat 9. There are two things that seem to be resolving the issue. One is to uninstall, delete all Acrobat leftovers, and then reinstall. However the solution that seems to be fixing more cases is a new admin user. According to Scott Worthington several of his cases were caused by users not having the correct permissions. That is they were domain admins instead of local admins. The best way to create a new admin user in these cases is to use the "back door" approach of creating the new user thru Administrative Tools/Computer Management. In the Computer Management window right-click on Users under Local Users and Groups and from the context menu choose New User. Fill out the fields at the top of the window and then uncheck User must change password at next logon. After the new user is created right click on the new user name and choose Properties from the context menu. Go to the Member Of tab and click New then add Administrators to the list. Use the "Check Names" button to make sure the group name is correct. If it is correct it will become underlined. It needs to be capitalized and must have an "s" on the end. Click Apply and then OK.

  • Nokia Maps need signal check option

Yes, when I connect by 1º time ando no signal of GPS I must exit from it and go to Garmin than it has signal metter.
Would be fine than Nokia Maps at his menu has a option to access to a signal meter.... or as is from the same Nokia, an option to access to same meter as Location > GPS data > Options > Satellite Status

    @leo3487
Are you saying that your N97 Mini doesn't have Menu > Applications > Location > GPS data > Position > Options > Satellite Status or that algorithm utilised by Garmin Mobile Xt seems to produce satellite strength reading faster?

If whilst in Ovi Maps application you tap on "?" middle of row > About Maps > Versions > Map version - is it 0.2.44.110?
