Naming Service in Oracle Net Manager

Hello,
I've downloaded ODTwithODAC1020221.exe and did the install ODP.NET sucessfully and when I try to create a Naming Service by Clicking on the + icon nothing happens.
I have a working TNSNAMES.ORA in the ADMIN/NETWORK folder where I installed the ODP.NET. In the same folder I have SQLNET.ORA and a LISTENER.ORA files.
I am using Visual Basic 2005 for my GUI.
Thank you,
Fred

I click on the '+' sign or use the menu 'create' option but I do not get a screen to enter any information.
I hard coded my tnsnames connection in my application and it work fine.
Thanks for getting back to me with the information and link. I've tried all possible combination without successfully being able to use the 'Naming Service' function.
Fred

If yes: How do I call them ? What is the *.exe file of these programs ?

Does OracleExpress 10g contain: Oracle Enterprise
Manager, Oracle Net Manager and Oracle Net
    Configuration Assistant ? No.
XE is designed with the intention that it is the only Oracle database on the machine and therefore does not need a NetMgr or NetCA.
OEM is not included, nor can it be fully used because of it's use of Java Stored Procs and Perl. (Some OEM functionality DOES work, but it's not complete.)
Instead, APEX 2.1 provides the related functionality.

  • Oracle net manager is not listed....

    Hi People,
Have a small problem with the installation of oracle client, for some reason oracle net manager is not installed or at least not listed in start menu programs. Does any one have an idea how to access this tool if it is not listed in the start menu? (I am pretty sure it was installed when I was running the oracle 10g client on windows Xp)
    Many Thanks...

  • Oracle Net manager error

    Aloha!
I have just created a database instance on oracle 11g R2. When i tried to create a connection to that said instance on net manager from a certain client machine
    i'm prompted with this error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
but on the server itself i can access the instance through SQLplus as sysdba.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Regards,
    Hades

ORA-12514:     TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
Cause: The listener received a request to establish a connection to a database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener specified a service name for a service (usually a database service) that either has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance has registered with the listener.
    Action:
    - Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
    - Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
    - Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.
    - If an easy connect naming connect identifier was used, check that the service name specified is a service known by the listener.
    - Check for an event in the listener.log file.

  • Missing windows service for Oracle Enterprise manager

I have installed Oracle database 10G R1 (without seed database), and applied patchset 10.1.0.4. I have used the DBCA to create a database instance, which was created successfully (see note1).
However the windows service for the OEM DBconsole has not been created. I have tried to lookup the manuals how I can manually create this, but with no success. Please can somebody point out the correct procedure?
    Best regards,
    Jesmond
    Note1:
If using DBCA the optional example schema are selected and saved to scripts, the calling script <ORACLE_SID>.sql must be amended to move the line below to the last entry:
    @E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\admin\ebuscon\scripts\sampleSchema.sql
This is due to the fact that the sample schema script has an "EXIT" statement which will cause the creation script to terminate prematurely.

I think you have a similar problem as described in
    Problem starting EM 10g
emca did not run, on Windows it also creates the corresponding service.

  • Oracle Net Services for XE

    Regards.
As you can remember in earlier versions to Oracle 10g, there used to be a tool named "netmgr" which was very helpful to manage the listener an tnsnames configuration through a application (which allows also to test connections), instead of manipulating this files manually.
My question is if the newest versions of DB client (including XE) includes any kind of Oracle Net Manager? I've downloaded and installed the Oracle XE Client, nevertheless, at first sight it doesn't have any kind of net mananger tool, and the web site does not specific information about it.
    Thanks!

Oracle Net Manager is not part of XE.
There is a chapter in Oracle Database Express Edition 2 Day DBA 'Connecting to the Database' followed with chapter 'Managing Network Connections' where you can read about 'XE Net':

  • Oracle 11g Net Manager - A valid "SID" is required

    Windows XP SP3
    Oracle Database 11g
    Hi all.
I get an Invalid Entry message box with the message: 'A valid "SID" is required' when I open Oracle Net Manager, select the listener from the Listeners node and then attempt to Save or move to another node.
Can anybody help? Ultimately, I want to configure the Advanced Security options but so far I cannot save the new configuration.
    Thanks,
    Leo.

    Hi Flaz,
Thanks for replying. I have no idea what "SID" the error is reffering to so I've included the contents of my listener.ora file. The listener works fine but I can't configure some of the advances options.

  • I see the error: ORA-12170 when I make Net Manager on Oracle DTB Client

    Dear all,
I installed Oracle Database 10 g on Server, then I installed Oracle Database Client 10 g on another PC. I tested the connection database from client PC by making Net Manager on Oracle Database Client. And I see the error ORA - 12170.
    Can you help me?
I want to connect database on Server to practice add Portlet by SQL/PLUS.
    Thanks.

    Oracle says...
    ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
Cause: The server shut down because connection establishment or communication with a client failed to complete within the allotted time interval. This may be a result of network or system delays; or this may indicate that a malicious client is trying to cause a Denial of Service attack on the server.
Action: If the error occurred because of a slow network or system, reconfigure one or all of the parameters SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.SEND_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.RECV_TIMEOUT in sqlnet.ora to larger values. If a malicious client is suspected, use the address in sqlnet.log to identify the source and restrict access. Note that logged addresses may not be reliable as they can be forged (e.g. in TCP/IP).
    Also check the following...
    1) Listener status on the server.
    2) Check listener.log file present in X:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\NETWORK\log folder to grab any error.
    3) Check the result of tnsping from the client.
    4) try to login by sqlplus username/password@tnsname and see what happens.

  • Confirming method to secure web services through oracle web service manager

    Hi All,
I am just wondering about the method to secure web service through oracle web service manager.
I have a unsecure web service "helloworld" which is deployed on JWSDP1.6 toolkit.I want to secure it through oracle web service manager.
Inorder to secure this unsecure web service,I use gateway(web service manager for securing web service using message level security through certificate).
So when client want to access the helloworld service,it contacts the gateway securely and gateway intern connect to original web service after decrypting and verification of the signature. When gateway gets response from the web service,it signs the response message and then encrypt and passs on to the client.
So my question is,is it the right way to secure web service?
As I am getting the following fault exception :

  • Unable to start Oracle Process Manager from the windows services for OBIEE

    Hi,
I have OBIEE 11g installed on a 32-bit windows machine. Of the two windows services installed, I am unable to start the Oracle Process Manager. When I try to start it I get the following error:
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request  in a timely fashion.
At the back end, this service is calling the file opmn.exe which is placed at MIDDLEWAREHOME\Oracle_BI1\opmn\bin. On trying to execute this file the error we get is:
The procedure entry point longjmp could not be located in the dynamic link library orauts.dll
I have tried replacing the orauts.dll file, but to no avail.
Please let me know if you have any clue regarding what is to be done.
    Thanks
    Naman

    Hi Naman,
This error occurs for the following reasons,
*Path variable is not set properly
*Multiple Oracle homes exists in the same machine.
Follow the below steps and let me know if it works,
    1. Select My Computer -> Right Click -> Properties
    2. In the System Properties screen go to Advanced Tab
    3. Click on Environment Variables
    4. In the System Variables section select PATH variable & Click edit
    5. Now you will find that it will contain invalid directories. Remove the incorrect entries. This may happen when you have multiple oracle homes in the same machine
    6. Restart the service.

  • Unable to start Oracle Process Manager Service

    I installed EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows 2008 R2.
    Oracle database 11g.
I installed and configured every thing was working fine. But suddenly the Oracle Process Manager service is not starting.
I checked in event viewer the following error i found:
The Oracle Process Manager (EPM_epmsystem1) service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
    Please help me.

    Hi Jasmin,
    The error was:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to start Oracle Process manager (instance1) service.

When I try to start this service I get the following error in Event Manager:
Faulting application opmn.exe, version 11.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4ed8d1e8, faulting module yod.dll, version 6.0.6002.18541, time stamp 0x4ec3e855, exception code 0xc0000135, fault offset 0x00000000000b6fc8, process id 0x1ca4, application start time 0x01cd660277503c3a.
But if I try through the command prompt 'opmnctl start' it works just fine. The problem is now I have to stay logged into the machine, if I log out opmn shuts down.
This is happening on two servers we have this installed on. Windows Server 2008 (NOT R2) 24gb ram. Otherwise it is running just fine.
Very little help on google for this issue. Any help would be great.

Sorry if I was not clear on my issues, but it is when I try to start the windows service, (Oracle Process Manager (instance1), that I get this error in the Event Logs.
Does anyon know the difference between the commands for starting this service through Windows Services and 'opmnctl start'?
