Nano corrupted after ipod update

i was trying to update an ipod nano, and the updater froze following the update, but the update bar on the ipod continued to function and it seemed like the update completed since the ipod restarted after the update bar finished, so just task managered out of apple updater.
Well now, neither itunes nor ipod updater (the most recent verions) recognize the ipod, and when i try to access it as a disk drive, i get an error message saying that the drive is corrupt. I'm trying to restore to factory settings, but i can't do that if the updater itself doesn't recogize the ipod.
What am i supposed to do?

Hi,
I had to solve the same trouble: After interrupted update on my iPod nano , the Windows explorer (several functions on the "My Computer" button, including right mouse click) hangs up. Trying to restore the iPod, the iPod updater program hangs up.
After reading the previous recommendation ("just format it!"), I formatted my iPod SUCCESSFULLY, on the following way:
1) Restart your PC with disconnected iPod.
2) Connect your ill-humoured iPod to USB slot.
3) You should see the connected external drive in my computer. DON'T CLICK ON IT! Just note the assigned drive letter, for example "E:".
4) Start the MS-DOS-like command line interpreter (Start menu -> Run... -> keyboard input "cmd + <Enter>").
5) Start the command line operation "format E:" (substitute "E:" with your correct drive letter) and confirm all instructions with <Enter>.
BE CAREFULLY, OF COURSE: If you perform "format [drive letter]:" via command line on any wrong volume, you will loss all data stored on this volume.

  • Nano Backlight (Hold-Menu) no longer working after iPod Updater 2006-01-10

After updating my 4gb black iPod Nano to software v1.1 via the iPod Updater 2006-01-10, I can no longer enable the backlight by holding down the menu button. Now when the menu button is pressed and held for a second or two it actually returns to the home screen. Feature or bug? The backlight does work if I set it to turn off in 2 Seconds via the Settings->Backlight Timer menu so I know the hardware is still ok. In practice, I usually leave the backlight off to conserve battery and temporarily enable it via the hold menu procedure when needed. Any others experiencing this same problem?

I'd be willing to bet that Apple considers the
updated behavior to be the "Correct" behavior.
According to the Apple Nano Features Guide:
"Turn on backlight - If the backlight timer is set to Off, press and hold Menu to turn on the backlight"
I would argue that the issue I am experiencing after update is not the correct behavior. Every iPod made, save the shuffle, functioned this same way: hold the menu button for 1-2 seconds to enable backlight.

  • After iPod  update, my iPod won't disconnect or show up in iTunes

I downloaded the iPod updater. I then restarted my computer, plugged in my iPod nano, and the updater popped up with a thing to click to update it. The whole time, my iPod never showed up in iTunes, but it said do not disconnect on the screen. The updater froze, and now my iPod is updated, but has no songs. I cannot figure out how to sync it to iTunes.

Before you tear out your hair, follow the steps that Casper recommends. It works in minutes. The reformatting will mean you will have to reload your music, but that's better than tearing out your hair for sure. I feel lucky to have stumbled across the following instructions before too many hours went by. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
Windows users: If you are not able to restore the iPod, you can try to format it:
    Open Control Panel
Click the "switch to classic view" link, if necessary
    Double click "administrative tools"
    Double click "computer management"
Under "storage" click on "disk management"
    Find your iPod's listing
Right-click on it and click "format"
Select "FAT32" and start the format
After this, your I-TUNES should start up and ask you to register the NANO again, but at LEAST IT RECOGNIZES IT again. WOOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!

  • Problem after ipod updater

I have updated my Ipod nano, after doing so my comuter recognizes it as a hard drive, and neither itunes nor the ipod updater can access it.
when I go insside the ipod and see in the about section, it tells me that it has 1.8 gigs installed and 1.1 available, but there are no songs appearing nor any information appearing on the ipod. It used to have information and songs prior to the update.
so now everytime I connect it the ipod gets reset, and I am not able to do anything with it.
    How can I fix this?

If the songs are on your computer, that's the most important thing... backup. If they are I would try the 5R's
    http://www.apple.com/support/
If that doesn't work... Applecare. I think you'll have to restore the nano, this should resolve issues.

  • Video freezes when playing after ipod updating

My 60GB ipod video freezes up after a few minutes of playing video. It was operating fine until I installed the latest IPOD updater software "2006-01-10". I have tried reseting the ipod, but it makes no difference. When the freeze occurs, I found that returning back to the main menu is the only way to get the video to return to playing. Otherwise, I tried fast forward and it sometimes plays, but without sound.
This is a new IPOD, so I can return it today for a full refund from the apple store.
    Any ideas?

My 60GB ipod video freezes up after a few minutes of
    playing video.
The only way to fix it is to go back to the previous updater. You'll lose everything on your iPod but you can sync again afterwards.
    1) Uninstall the 1.1 updater from your computer.
    2) Install the 1.0 updater onto your computer. It's on the CD that came with your iPod.
    3) Plug in your iPod.
    4) Run the 1.0 updater.
    5) Select 'restore'.
    6) Follow instructions.
    7) Resync with iTunes.
    Good luck.

  • Trying to recover my data My Micro SD Card became corrupted after JB Update

    Can someone please help me?
    Here is the issue:
    Background:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone that I transferred my micro SD Card into from my previous smart phone.  About a month ago I realized that some of the pictures were corrupted and called verizon they told me to put the sd card in the old phone and see if I could delete the corrupted pictures.  Did that,  the card went back to working as I was used to it working.  I then had a friend download some music to it.  That also worked fine until verizon sent out the Jelly bean update.  When the phone turned off and then back on after the update, the phone gave me an error message that said the SD card is damaged.  I immediately took it out of the phone and put it aside.
    Current issue:
So today I purchased a card reader, New micro SD card and came home and downloaded Recuva.  So far everything is great.  All the files, I card about came up in the directory with little green circles next to them.  (All the music and my 5 sms back-ups)  I then hit the recover icon at the bottom of the screen and the data gathered.  Then it never recovered over to my c drive or to the flash drive (memory stick) that that I put into one of the other ports.  I keep getting 1 or 2 messages.  The one I am seeing the most is " The parameter is incorrect"  the other one I am seeing is that the memory is not ready for the data.  I am now at the point where all I care about are the 5 sms back ups.  The music can be reloaded later.  files are called sms-"date backed up and a string of numbers".xml
So question is do I need to buy recuva to actually recover my data or am I doing something else wrong?  Please help.
    Thanks so much in advance.
So an update as of 8:45 pm
So here's what else I have tried so far tonight.  I went back into the CMD mode of my computer and ran chkdsk d:/f   this now produced a name of a file that is corrupted.  Also says that it removed the file.  I then ran chkdsk again with the exact same result.  The file was not removed.
Running recuva I am getting more files recovered now and more green circles.  But, when actually trying to recover the files I am still getting the message  "The parameter is incorrect"
Most of the other software i have found is either for recovering pictures or deleted files not corrupted ones.  This is the only software that appears to do what i need it to do for my issue.  I think I may be in over my head and it may be time to pay a professional to move on from here.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for taking your time to reply to me.

There are some free alternatives to recovering files from a SDcard.  photorec.exe is one.  Try a Google search to find others.

  • Shuffle Setting doesn't work after iPod update

After I update my iPod software my shuffle setting seems to only work on about half of my music. Formerly, when I had the shuffle setting turned to Songs it worked on everything, but since the update when I go to certain Genres or Playlists instead of saying 1 of 237 and playing them at random, instead it says 1 of 1, or 1 of 5, and that's it.
I can work around it by going first to settings and turning the shuffl off, then playing my list, then going back and turning the shuffle on and then heading down to Now Playing.
Is there any way to get that setting working normally again?

    ipod video   Windows XP

I had the same issue and worked around it the same way you have (start playlist, then select shuffle songs). I don't know if this will apply to you, but here's what I discovered. I had some tracks set to Skip when Shuffling, in my mind thinking those songs would be skipped when I shuffled the entire library, but I didn't realize that it would also skip those songs if they are in a playlist and you are doing Settings, Shuffle, Songs. (As opposed to the setting that Shuffles the whole library.)
Example: I have a playlist of Celtic songs, which I want to skip when I shuffle my "main" music library. But when I play the Celtic Playlist, I don't like to hear it in the same order every single time. I like to switch it up. So I'd put Settings to Shuffle and select Songs. And on my Playlist, it would say 1 of 1, instead of 1 of 27.
Check it out. I thought it was worth bringing up since your situation sounds so similar to mine.
(By the way...I continue to use the "work around" as you mentioned, so that I can still Shuffle my "main" library, which I don't include Celtic in.)

  • 5G iPod skipping songs after iPod Update 1.1

After I updated my 5G 60 Gig video iPod to Update 1.1, my iPod started to skip certain songs. I have tried erasing the songs, importing them again from the CD, and reloading them back to the iPod and the iPod still won't play those SPECIFIC songs! Never had this problem before the update.
Btw, if I restore my iPod will I have to reload all the songs/files again?
    Thank you for your help!

Ok... This is so strange. If I import those skipped/unplayable songs from the CDs again using a different encoder (MP3 instead of AAC), the resulting songs would play fine on the iPod. Again, never had this problem before Update 1.1.

  • Jaguar won't boot after iPod updater install

    Greetings,
My Jaguar (10.2.8) will not boot after I installed (via Software Updater) the iPod Updater 2005-11-17 on my iMac.
I've run Repair Permissions and Repair Disk using Disk Utilities (from both a Jaguar and Panther install CD) and zapped PRAM (3x). No problems show up on Repair Disk. I get the start up chime and a gray screen with the gray Apple logo, but no spinning circle. That's as far as it goes. I cannot boot to Safe or Single-user mode (not sure what I can run except fsck -y).
I can, however, boot to OS 9.1.x on the hard disk; I'm hoping to copy/recover files over the newtwork.
Any ideas (short of erase/partitioning drive and reinstall OS)?
(Don't know if this has anything to do with my post- iPod Update 2005-11-17 problems, but. . . My original iMac drive was 4Gb. I Carbon Copy Cloned the whole disk to a formatted 30Gb hard drive mounted in an external USB drive enclosure, removed the larger drive from the enclosure and installed it in the iMac. Worked like a charm. I've used it this way for almost a year, enduring several application updates, e.g. security updates, QuickTime, iTunes, even one iPod updater. I have noticed, however, that I cannot reinstall Jaguar or install Panther to this HD because the system is not in the first 8Gb of the hard drive. Apparently, I need to create a partition on this 30Gb drive that is < 8Gb in size before I can proceed with the install/reinstall. I thought this limitation was corrected with Panther, but not so?)
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Figured it out.
I couldn't boot to OS X because, it seems, the iPod updated caused Jaguar to behave in it's predictable pattern of not booting properly from a partition > 8Gb in size on this iMac (a 233Mh model that Apple says is affected in this way, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106235). In my case, I had Carbon Copy Cloned my 10.2.8 to a 18Gb drive. No problems occurred with running it. However, this was the first set of updaters I've installed on that OS since that cloning operation. And it simply wouldn't boot.
I booted to OS 9, copied files to a laptop over the network, pulled out the Jaguar install disks and repartitioned the drive to include one partition <8Gb in size, installed the OS there. All's fine now, just have to hassle with moving all those files back and testing.
I could have used a repartitioner (FWB Partitioner Tool for OS 9, <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.publishingperfection.com/fwb-software/fwb201/, other dynamic partitioners are available for OS X) to make the < 8Gb partition within my OS 9 boot and avoid deleting everything on the drive in the process. But I didn't figure this out until I'd already backed everything up. Plus, I didn't want to pay the extra bucks and wait for shipping. So I used Disk Utility on my Jaguar install disk to create my < 8Gb partition for Jaguar. Now I have a fresh install. But I'd rather not have had to spend the time figuring all this out!!

  • After iPod Update - how long does "do not disconnect" appear?

I've just updated my older iPod (20GB, iPod version 3.02
Model No. M9282LL) using updater 2006-03-23, and the "Do Not Disconnect" notice has appeared, and stayed for about an hour so far. Can I assume the updater is working it's way through the 1,500 song library, and that it may take a while longer? Or... have I broken the thing?
(I just completed an upgrade to Tiger from 10.3.9; iPod worked/connected fine before the upgrade, but not since then. Mounted on desktop okay, and launched iTunes, but never appeared in iTunes. The updater was an attempt to fix this problem, although I first downgraded iTunes to version 6.05, to no avail.)

To close the loop: I wound up having to "restore" (using the latest iPod updater) this iPod. Problem solved.

  • Restart corruption after Software Update

I was prompted to run a software update for Quicktime and Prokit today (not sure of the versions, but I update frequently so they are the most recent.)
Leopard (er "Kitty Cat" rather) attempted to restart after the update, but it was stuck on quitting the Finder. I waited several minutes before I just shut it down myself (probably the cause of the problem). When I restart now, it's stuck in a loop using the program "Setup Assistant" (asking my country, apple ID, etc. all of which I inputed about a month ago). When I hit "Done" at the end of the form, it goes back to the beginning. I cannot access the Desktop. I tried loading Software Update again, as well as System Preferences. Nothing loaded. No window, just the App name in the top left toolbar.
I restarted as a Firewire drive (Holding "T") and mounted it on my other computer. I used Disk Utility which said the drive "appeared to be ok" (I hit Verify, as well as Repair). Then I restarted again and still encountered the same problem with Setup Assistant.
All my files are still on the computer, so I have a way to back it up. But is there an easy way around this whole startup problem?
    Thanks for any help!!

  • ITunes & Music Files on iPod Nano Corrupted after Update to iTunes 7.0.1

I updated to latest version of iTunes. Now I can't load my music onto it, since iTunes won't recognize it. I have tried all recommended fixes by Support website. So, I looked at the files on my iPod. I can't access either the iTunes file or the Music file. Windows tells me they are corrupted. It also tells me to run "chkdsk".
    Three questions:
    Should I run chkdsk?
    How do I run chkdsk?
If chkdsk fails, can I go into DOS and erase these two files on my iPod? (I think that I can remember how to do that!)

Hahahah, You are using the right word "seem" and in fact I am not a particularly bright guy on the discussions, there are plenty are smarter than me.
Make the long story short, let deal with your issue.
Firstly, make sure you login as administrator (not a guest) in XP, go and download the iTunes from here

  • Mouse Freezes after iPod Update

Just upgraded to Tiger and every time I connect my iPod for updates my mouse freezes and I have to restart the computer. All iPod software has updated recently. What's going on????

I found the following steps will unfreeze the trackpad:
    1. Use Command + Space to launch Spotlight
    2. Type "System Preferences" in Spotlight to open the System Preferences program
    3. Inside of the search field in System Preferences, type "mouse"
    4. Press the "Enter" key to oper the mouse preferences
At this point, the trackpad will unfreeze.
If you leave System Preferences open after you've completed the steps above, when the trackpad freezes again, you can use Command + Tab to bring System Preferences to the top of your windows.  Doing so will unfreeze the mouse.
Very annoying, but better than a reboot if you're presenting in front of people.  I hope Apple fixes this soon.

  • OS gets corrupted after software updates

    Hello everyone,
My Macbook Pro has been having difficulties recently (eg. keyboard input changing to random symbols, Trackpad not fully functioning, Internet links not opening). I sent it to the Apple service centre. They informed that there was nothing wrong with my laptop's hardware but, a software update had corrupted my OS. Hence, they reloaded my OS and my mbp worked again. However, yesterday, when I installed the new Mountain Lion update, the same problems have resurfaced. Any idea why that might be happening?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
