NAS NSS 326 Reset Issue.

Hi peeps
Have a little issue with a Cisco NAS NSS 326 Smart Storage 6 bay - with RAID 5 over 6 disks.
Apparently there were some funny business with the performance with the device so someone reset the device from the button on the back.
I've been ask to get everything working but I've bumped into a little problem.
The DHCP address the device pick up is 10.2.7.127, so I open up a web interface and hop on that address and configure password, time etc.
When it comes up to step 6 I've tried selecting "Do not set disk configuration" and RAID 5, then on the finish window to start installing it advises it'll format all disk to continue!!!
We have a lot of data (9GB or so)
Is it possible to continue in any way without clearing the data we have on it? or map it somehow to recover the data?

Marc,
I would first back all data you wouldn’t want to lose since the volume is unlocked now. Instead of a hard reset we can attempt a reset of admin password. Administration guide: PG- 39

Reset Network Settings and Password
You can restore the network settings and password for your NAS device using the
reset button located on the back panel. The NAS device should be powered on for
this procedure. Using a paper clip, press the reset button for 3 seconds, until the
NAS beeps.
The following settings are reset to default:
• System administration password: admin
• Network settings:
- Obtain TCP/IP settings automatically via DHCP
- Disable Jumbo Frame
- System management port - 8080
• System tools: IP filter settings - Allow all connections
• LCD panel password: (blank)
This 3 second reset should only clear out these fields but back up all data as a precaution.
Hope this helps,
Jasbryan.

  • Hard reset on NAS NSS 326

    Hi,
can someone confirm if this will allow access to previously encrypted volumes?
We  have an nss326 which has the encrypted password stored for when the nas  boots up and unlocks the volumes automatically. The previous  administrator set the password and nobody knows what it is. We need to  change the encryption key and keep the data.
Is the hard reset the best way to achieve this?
    thanks

  • OS X Lion and NSS 326

I've got a Cisco NSS 326 NAS and have recently run into a problem with OS X Lion Developer Preview and authentication to the NAS. When connecting to the NAS over AFP as guest I can access the NAS just fine. However, when I try and authenticate I get an error that reads:
"The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem."
I've read on another site (http://trick77.com/2011/02/25/afp-broken-linux-based-nas-mac-os-x-lion-10-7) that this has to do with the version of AFP that is running on the NAS compared to the new version that OS X Lion is using AFP 2.
Does anyone have a solution to enable the NAS to support AFP 2 or are there any plans to support this from Cisco any time soon?

    Hi all NSS32x owners,
Like you all, I bought a Storage Solution from Cisco, personally hoping that Cisco would be better in supporting us than the OEM they bougth the NSS32x line from.
Until now I have been disapointed over and over.
They opened a discussion about what should be implemented in the Cisco versions of the NAS'ses but so far no real addition of any value.
Now we are facing the problem with OS X Lion's TimeMachine incompatability, which could have been solved for months ago, when the first developer releases were issued.
    No response from Ciso however.
    This is really bad.
Other companies already have solutions for their products in order to be compatible with Lion.
Ok, I agree, this might not be a problem caused by Cisco, but a problem that was caused by Apple when releasing Lion. But hey all companies have to update their software so Cisco as well as Apple.
However, companies of major size (Apple, Cisco, and many others) should be more cooperative when releasing new software.
I work in IT for over 30 years now and I have always seen that when Cisco bought a company, their "boxes" were painted gray and the Cisco "bridge" logo was aplied and then all over sudden it became a REAL Cisco product.
And I mean it really became a Cisco product. You might have some minor problems but those were always solved.
I would have expected the same from Cisco with respect to these NAS'ses.
And believe me, I have seen quit some NAS'ses from the competitors but the NSS32x series does not come with the support you get from other competing NAS vendors.
That is what bothers me and I regret that there is no solution today for the issue(s) we have with OS X Lion, but what bothers me even more is that Cisco is not informing us at all about whatever solution there will be within whatever time frame.
I still have the NSS326 and I had to pay quit a premium over other vendors, but accepted it, supposing that the NAS would have the support I am familiar with from Cisco, but as you can read above I am disapointed.
So Cisco, what are you going to do to improve support and be more open and informative about coming software releases for the NSS32x series NAS'ses?

  • Unable to enter administration page of NSS 326

Even after a soft reset, we are unable to enter the administration page of our NSS 326, and even through the NSS Discovery tool, we can't configure as it asks the admin username and password ( the default is expected to be admin-admin after the soft reset but doesn't work). Any help would be useful. Thank you in advance.

That may be because the clock settings on your computer are not the same as the clock in general, or perhaps because the clock on your computer is dead..
to deal with you can reset your clock on your computer or sertivikat looking at options on the right side and then choose to agree if it has been found..

  • WAD webpage reset issue

    Hi Forum,
I have a requirement wherein a web page selection screen is developed in WAD(with some amount of Javascript involved) for the page transition from the selection screen to the report output. The ideal scenario in this case is once a user selects his selection of specific values in the selection screen and runs the report, it displays the report and the selection screen should remain intact as it is for reselecting different values. The issue occuring here is once the user selects the values and clicks on the Run Report button, the report displays fine but the selection screen resets back to a different kind of a screen(displaying exceptions and few other tabs) wherein the user is not able to reselect other values for rerunning the report. Once the user clicks on the back button then the selection screen displays again wherein the user can enter his selections again. So, ideally we need to prevent the selection screen from resetting itself to the exceptions screen, keeping the screen intact as it was.
If anyone has faced a similar kind of an issue in WAD, any help on this would be extremely appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    SwatsG

    Hi,
    Try the below steps.
open WAD ---> open the Web Template (WT) you want to make changes ---> goto properties of the WT ---> select tab 'web item' ---> try checking or unchecking the below mentioned items in the web item list.
    Forced Variable Screen Display
    Reset variables to Default
    Display same variable only once
    Read Mode for Data
Hope this will help resolve webpage reset issue.

  • NSS 326 disk replace failed

    Hi
I have replaced the faulty disk in RAID6 with a new one on NSS 326, but NSS does not accept it with the error:
    [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Add drive 1 to the volume failed.
Under the "RAID Managment" it says I should insert a disk the same or bigger size that faulty one was.
All hard disk are the same vendor, model, type and size (also the replacement disk is the same):
    WDC WD2003FYYS-02W0B01.0
Does anyone have any clue what should I do?
    Thank you in advance
    Herbert Knavs

    Hi Herbert,
I am glad your unit now is fully operational and the unit had the healthy RAID6 array.  To answer your questions and share some of the informatioin I knew, I am doing my best with my knowlege of the NSS:
When rebuild started, another strange thing happened... I will copy paste from log here:
    1. Drive 1 plugged in.
    2. [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Drive 1 added into the volume.
    3. [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Start rebuilding.
    4. [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Rebuilding skipped.
Why skipped???   [ Clint's comment: During the rebuild process, disk #3 could not be in sync with other disks and after many attempted to sync data in the array, the process/script timed out and killed the rebuild array process because disk#3 may contains some bad blocks. System log displayed "Rebuilding skipped". The log, as you can see it always displayed 6 disks [1 2 3 4 5 6]. This is just for user to understand that RAID6 with 6 disks but it does not reflect the true status of the array.]
    5. [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Start rebuilding.
But in the "Raid Management" view was: 1 2 4 5 6 (disk number 3 somehow is missing)
[Clint's comment: The GUI displayed the true status of the RAID array, as you know disk#3 is failed out from the RAID6 array.]
    6. [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Rebuilding completed.
Now "Raid Managment" view says something like: 1 2 4 5 6 In degraded mode... and number 3 is also missing here???
[Clint's comment: System continue the process of resync without disk #3 and after it completed. It would gave user in degraded mode because disk#3 is not in the array.]
So I have rebooted the NSS without touching disk in bay .
    7. System started.
    8. [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Drive 3 added into the volume
    9. [RAID6 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 4 5 6] Start rebuilding.
[Clint's comment: by reboot the system. There is a process of checking each disk during boot up to verify each disk is physically healthy (no bad blocks, if it is, fix it before boot to Linux OS and execute codes to bring NSS to operational).  The system did know the status of each disk and in your case, because disk #3 was not in the array. System checked and verified to correct some bad blocks that was out of sync in the array.  After fixed some bad blocks, it automatically add that disk to the array and required resynchronize to make sure all disks are in the RAID6 array, this is why you were seeing "Start rebuilding" after the reboot. And because the correction was made in disk #3, you had the successful rebuild RAID6 array.]
    Hope that helps!

  • S750 - How many people get the power on/off/resetting issue?

How many people get the power on/off/resetting issue?
I've had my S750s for about 6 months, with X-Fi Elite Pro, and has been doing it since.
Any idea on what's the cause? Something to do with the control pod?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
What do you mean exactly? On my side I have power on/off/resetting issue when the speaker are in standby mode (thus red light on the control pod) and when I switch them on via the remote control or the control pod. It makes a strange noise in the subwoofer ("clic"), the red light disappear, then a new noise and the speakers are switched on. The problem is that all volume levels (rear / side / center / sub and main) are reinitialized! I have to configure them each time this problem appears...
I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS connected to this speaker system. For me it is related to an electrical problem in the subwoofer like if the voltage was not stable (variations).

  • NSS 326 and WD 3TB drive.

    Hi There.
Has anyone used, or knows the compatibilty of the 326 and the WD Green 3TB WD30EZRX drives. Also is there going to be a performance difference on the box with SATA 3 vs 2 ?
    Thanks!

Cisco has 3 models in the market and these are based from QNAP's TSx59 Pro+ hardware.  QNAP and Cisco had different way to qualified a drive and recommend for user to use.  For Cisco, each of the hard drive model from the approved list was actually tested to making sure the reliability of the drive installed in the NSS.  There are number of drive models in the WD's Green series did not make to the AVL. So if you see a drive model in the Cisco AVL, it had been tested and I would recommend to get that model to use with the NSS.  If the model you purchased and it is not on the AVL list, it was either failed to make the list. Unfortunately, Cisco existed the Storage market for SMB market since summer of last year so the drive qualification was also stopped. The only source for new model, in your case, is come from QNAP. However, if you are purched Cisco NSS hardware, you have 5 years hardware warranty from the date of purchased.  Any software issue will be handled by QNAP (ex-partner).
Note: Cisco also worked very closely with WD team in the past to resolved any issue found on their drives during the testing. The confidentl level to use models from Cisco AVL list is much higher due to the test done in Cisco's lab.
In summary, only drive model that is working in the NSS hardware (passed life expectation tests, stress tests, performance tests, RAIDs, etc..) is made to the AVL list, any model was not amke to the list--it is not recommended.
As for QNAP's AVL,  while the base system are the same between TS-x59 Pro+ and the NSS32x. The QNAP's  AVL list is impressed but you need to pay attention to the notes from their web site--on the right side (very important) . The note indicated things that was not went well or things customer needs to be aware of before select the drive model.
    Hope that explained.

For those interested, I have some updates on this subject and someone out there sent me a mail asking if I ever found anything out.
Basically, when I encountered this issue the first time, I was working on a SP2 Portal. We were having numerous small bugs like this one with SP2 that centered around the back button or refresh button. BEA gave us a "super patch" back in July or so that when applied to our SP2 project, fixed our issue. I have sense moved onto SP3, and I did not see the compression issue (so I think SP3 must have the patches correctly setup...like I would assume it would).

  • Password Reset Issue in Portal

    Hi All,
Please help me to resolve this issue.
Issue : We have resetted a password for one srm user in Portal. The User when he tried to login after the password reset initially it was asked to change the password. User changed the password. He is succesfully logged into the portal. Now the problem is when he tries to access a srm work item in worklist it is opening a new window and asking to reset the password again with the error message "No switch to HTTPS occurred, so it is not secure to send a password & This is an initial password that must be changed". It is not asking to change when he tries to login to portal and this error is promting only when he tries to open a work item. Because of this the user could not proceed to work further.
Can any please let me know if faced with the same error.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Viswes

    Hi Viswes,
There are two solutions for this issue,
    1. Create a custom application which will change PWD in all the systems once you change your Portal PWD.
    2. Change the backend PWD before accessing UWL. (Login to backend system directly, it will ask for change of PWD).
    Thanks.

  • Airport Resetting Issue

Hi, I work at a apple care center on a university campus.
I have noticed an issue that has popped up since the last update of Leopard.
The issue involves a user doing a few things: having their computer sleep when connected to a airport connection, going from one airport connection to another, or dipping out of a connection hotspot and then back into it.
This is what happens, the airport signal shows that there is a connection but any web browser will not connect (any, firefox, safari, ie, etc.) It looks like airport is working, but once a browser is open the airport status switches to "searching" I believe.
I've manually turned off airport and gone in and reset the connection, but it still doesn't work.
So far there has only been one remedy - resetting the computer, and it works.
That said, has there been any other users that have noticed this update bug? I've been receiving a plethora of complaints that are of this issue.
    Thanks,
    ne0tr0pic

It sounds like the original poster is having issues with DHCP address renewal.
Remember that the Airport icon only indicates a valid association with a Wi-Fi router; I almost guarantee that a user seeing a valid association but unable to contact the Internet has a self-assigned IP address.
There, are, unfortunately some arguments going on (especially between Apple and Cisco) about how machines should behave when renewing DHCP addresses.
This page explains the issue in detail; the issue continues in Mac OS X Leopard:
Some time after obtaining a DHCP lease (entering the DHCP BOUND state), the client sends one or more DHCPDISCOVER packets. This implies the client has returned to the DHCP INIT state, relinquishing the old DHCP lease. In some cases, the client ignores all offers sent in response to the DHCPDISCOVER packet(s), or all those offers never reach the client (e.g. are dropped by the network). However, instead of remaining in the DHCP INIT state, the client continues to act as if the old DHCP lease is still in the BOUND state. It keeps using the IP address from the old lease (even trying to RENEW and later REBIND the old lease).
Because other DHCP clients may be leased the IP address after the first client relinquishes its lease on the address, the first client's continued use of that IP address interferes with service to those other clients.
I can positively confirm that the problem began no later than September 2005. At that time, Mac OS X 10.4.2 was the latest version of the OS available. Prior to then, I did not see the Mac OS X clients here exhibit this problem. Based on that, I believe the issue was introduced into Mac OS X in version 10.4.2 or earlier. Given that 10.4 was released in late April 2005, and the usage at our institution would tend to make it difficult to notice over the Summer (when most of our customers are away), I can imagine the problem may have been introduced as far back as version 10.4 or 10.4.1.
At Princeton, the problem has slowly grown from a rare occurence to a frequent problem. That's due to the growth in number of Mac OS X 10.4.x systems at our site, and due to the higher DHCP lease churn rate for each client (associated with the increasing use of wireless laptops that connect and disconnect often). At first I detected only a few incidents per month throughout our entire institution; by now I generally see several each day.
In many of these cases, our support staff have examined the malfunctioning Macs, and found no apparent problems. The devices appeared to be properly configured to use DHCP, with no special circumstances. (E.g. there was no second device forging the first one's hardware address or DHCP Client Identifier, no VM software running a separate DHCP client instance, no use of Apple's (or a third party) NAT software. There was nothing to indicate that there was a second DHCP client instance running using the same DHCP Client Identifier on the same network. It really appeared to be just simple Mac OS X DHCP clients, running current (at the time) versions of 10.4.x.)
After exhibiting the malfunction, the device may go weeks or months before exhibiting the malfunction (stealing an IP address) again...or it may happen again a few hours later. I know of no way to force any one device to reproduce the problem; I only am able to detect the problem the day after the fact, when I see "stolen IP address" problems by reviewing daily logs of unexpected DHCP server transactions and comparing them to IP usage data drawn from router ARP cache snapshots.
    Apple's Take:
Apple has indicated to me that the Mac OS X DHCP client may indeed transition directly from the DHCP INIT state to the DHCP BOUND state.
    The situation they describe is:
    a) A client is in the DHCP BOUND state.
    b) The DHCP client enters the INIT-REBOOT state, e.g. as a result of a sleep/wake cycle or link state change.
    c) The DHCP client sends a DHCPREQUEST.
    d) The DHCP client receives neither a DHCPACK or DHCPNAK.
(I note that in our case, the DHCPREQUEST may indeed have reached the DHCP server and the DHCP server sent a DHCPACK. Presumably this never reached the client.)
    e) Their DHCP client chooses to stop using the old lease, although there is still time remaining on the lease.
(I note that RFC 2131 allows the client to continue using the old lease if it wishes, until the old lease expires.)
Instead, their client chooses to return to the DHCP INIT state.
    f) The DHCP client sends a DHCPDISCOVER.
    g) The DHCP client does not receive a DHCPOFFER.
(I note that in our case, the DHCPDISCOVER did indeed reach the DHCP servers, and the DHCP servers send DHCPOFFERs to the client. Presumably none of the multiple DHCPOFFERs reached the client (e.g. all are dropped by the network), or the client has gone selectively deaf to just these offers.)
    h) The DHCP client sends an ARP request to the IP router that was its default gateway in the old lease. The router responds, and the client receives the response.
    i) The DHCP client goes back to the DHCP BOUND state and resumes using the old lease. It will enter RENEWING and REBINDING state as usual.
    Summary
Apple's stance is that sending a DHCP client can indeed go back to resume using the old lease; that sending a DHCPDISCOVER doesn't imply that client has abandoned that lease.
I believe that's not right; it appears to me that it is not permitted by the state transition diagram (Figure 5) in RFC 2131. And if what they're doing is DNAv4, RFC 4436 also makes it clear that what their client is doing is wrong.
So I believe that the behavior introduced in the Mac OS X 10.4.x DHCP client is not correct.
If your DHCP server makes use of the DHCPDISCOVER to decide that the old lease identified by (client identifier, subnet) has been abandoned by the client, this client behavior will cause a problem. That's because as far as the server is concerned, the old lease has been abandoned by the client, but the client proceeds to use that IP address. Your server may lease that IP address to another device.

Have a nokia N8, after installing Connectivity analyser beta from beta labs, my wifi reception has become very poor. i ave a wireless N router and before this date the signal was very strong. my friend has an N8 also, he tested the rooms i was having signal issues to see if the router was the problem, however he had excellent signal, leading me to think it was my phone. i uninstalled the app and he weak signal remained, i did a factory reset and the problem remeained, i did a hard reset and the problem is still there, I now have the added problem of no Ovi Suite and other Qt related app issues. Help please, this is really annoying. btw this is my second N8, really getting annoyed at Nokia now. any further specs, please ask

As synth_fg rightly points out it takes quite a bit of tinkering to recover from "hard reset" on N8. To give you an idea what would be involved:-
Download from Ovi Store website the sis installer of WordPress and install it on phone (wordpress install also Nokia Smart Install and all QT and PIPS components)
Launch Ovi Store on phone: which will download the .sis installer and should work without any error
    Reinstall Social_1_2_update.sisx from here: http://nmota.messaging.nokia.com/clients/Social_1_2_update.sisx
At this point you are still without OVI Maps but you can install v3.06 pre-release from Nokia Beta Labs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-306 which will allow you to pinch to zoom on your N8

  • USB Keyboard module reset issues [SOLVED]

    Hi,
Im on a fresh install of Arch, and had none of these problems on the exact same setup one day ago.
Basically my USB keyboard outputs a message to the console/dmesg every second saying: "usb 1-1.4: reset full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5"
If i "rmmod ehci_hcd" then the problem stops, but this reverts my devices to USB 1.1 mode, as soon as I "modprobe ehci_hcd" again the problem persists.
Anyone got any ideas of the causes/fixes for this issue?
Ive tried moving it to a different usb port, makes no difference.
This is the latest kernel on x86_64, and I get the same problem on the Arch live/install CD. My USB keyboard has a usb2.0 hub in it as well, but on a fully up to date system yesterday I didnt have this problem. This is just a clean reinstall (with LUKS encryption added).
    Thanks
    Jack

Hi, I am really disapointed over the lack of technical knowledge that you find these days in the internet. Linux was created first with maximum tuning capabilities. Then going mainstream they cut out all options leaving you basically helpless.
There are two problems to slow USB-performence.
    1) Wrong configuration -> I assume that is not the case
    2) Dumb Linux settings you can't change, because nobody tells you were to change them.
So the usual problem is, that the USB-Stick is mounted as "write-through" and not "write-back". So reading from the USB-Stick is cached, while the writing is not!!! Cache is a technique to speed things up, by not doing them in the order they appear. Especially with small files, there is no alternative. That is why modern harddisk have 8 or 16 MB cache on board. This way preformence of read/write files of size 0,005 or 0010 MB stays acceptable. USB-Sticks don't have an extra cache. The computer is supposed to take care of that.
Linux mounts USB-Sticks as "write-through", so with no caching in the writepart. So if you write many very small files, you can make a coffee break. Advantage is you can take out the stick after writing finishes without having to fear lose of data. With "write-back" you only know if the copy operation finished, that the data made it into the cache. To be sure, that the data also makes it onto the USB-Stick you need to unmount the USB-Stick.
Now everybody understands the problem. The big distributions prefer less speed rather than to have complains of Newbies that Linux corrupted their data - while the truth was, that those Newbies took out the USB-Stick without unmounting it.
So far so good, if those LINUX Expert would have left an easy accessable swith to change the "cache write policy", as windows does.
SO TO ALL THOSE LINUX EXPERT, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I NEED TO DO TO CHANGE THE CACHE POLICY FROM WRITE-THROUGH TO WRITE-BACK. PLEEEEEEEEASE.
    THX

  • Very Low Battery / Resetting issue - lets make Apple fix this!!!

There appears to be a lot of posts within the last few weeks about the "Please wait, very low battery" message and constant resets EVEN ON A FULL BATTERY. I too have begun to experience this problem. I can only think that there is some kind of bug that has been introduced with the latest firmware and itunes combo. Can anyone that it experiencing this issue, PLEASE put your experiences in a reply to this thread. As an addition to my post below, I have also heard that using the prior version to the latest Itunes in conjunction with the latest may also be the root of this problem. I have been using two itunes, the latest at home and a slightly older one at work. Can anyone shed anymore light on this possibility?
This is from a reply post I made earlier tonight:
I noticed my ipod 5th gen 60 gig was strangely in the red on battery life, so I connected it to my macbook pro and answered a few emails. I then noticed out of the corner of my eye that the ipod resetting. Weird! I had never seen it do this while attached to the computer. So, I went back into itunes and it said something about not disconnecting the device physically - some how the pod had reset and disconnected itself. So, I re-attached it, and moments later, it reset again. Instead of attaching to the computer, I attached the pod to a wall powered usb charger (non-official). After a few minutes, the pod said it was fully charged (weird), so I disconnected it. I thought I should check to see if it was playing music ok and started playing a song. It seemed ok, so I skimmed through a few tracks. Soon the ipod reset itself and started to continuously reset as if in a loop. After several reset attempts (menu and select) I was presented with a "Please wait, very low battery" message screen...
Hmmmm. I thought I should attach it to the wall charger and leave it to re-charge, thinking that the battery must be just plain out of juice. I got past the very low battery message and into the menu with a reset. Strangely, the battery showed as being fully charged... Disconnecting the pod and playing several songs again, the unit reset and showed the low battery message... Leaving the pod attached to the wall charger, even though it said it was fully charged, didn't remedy the problem. More resets when playing a song or two.
Initially I thought that it was a faulty battery. But, before I jumped to conclusions, I googled the above message. This showed me that this is a reasonably common issue with several possible causes. Some of the suggestions to remedy the issue included:
    * Reset the ipod - nope, same problem
    * Restore the ipod - did this first up... No go
    * Put the unit into disk mode attach and restore - nope
    * Drain the battery completely and then re-charge on wall charger - nope
    * Open the unit, disconnect the battery, and re-attach - I really thought this would work, but nope.
    * Disconnect unit, insert wall powered usb, start unit to reset it - nope
    * Buy a new battery - NOPE, same thing keeps happening even with a FRESH battery!!!
    * Put the unit into diagnostic mode and then charge... This kind of worked in the fact that it actually charged the new battery...
It appears to me that the battery status is all out of whack. The OS seems to think that the battery is completely full, and hence, doesn't take a charge. Equally, even though it says there is a full charge, after the unit plays one or two tracks (requiring a few harddrive seeks I suppose) it will exclaim that there is no battery remaining, reset loop and eventually enter "very low battery" mode. It does the latter even if the battery is new and appears to have been charged (via the diag screen).
So, where to from here... Well not entirely sure, but I reckon that what I have to do is drain the fully charged battery WHILE the unit is active. Perhaps then, it will re-calibrate its internal battery meter... Right now, I have been able to put the pod into disk mode and it is actually showing a battery icon WITHOUT the fully charged symbol (the little plug icon). It also shows a slight depletion in battery remaining. My hope is that this depletion will get bigger over the next few days and, if it does, it may right the funny loop-like state it is in.
Has anyone got ANY other ideas as to how to fix this problem. As a side note, I updated the pod to firmware 1.3 recently. I am considering a restore using an older firmware. Where can I track down 1.2? Can I press the option key and click restore to choose an alternative restore image from the 1.3 already in itunes?
Any suggestions/help is EXTREMELY welcome as I am almost about to give up...

I think my problem actually might be the same ... the other day it was full battery one minute, and the next it was saying "Please connect to power, low battery". I wasn't near a power source, so i just left it. Then it started making this funny whirling sound and the screen went silvery blank, so i figured it was the hard drive crashing. I hooked it up to the computer overnight and the next day I could at least get the apple on the screen to show up and the computer would recognize it somewhat. When it's hooked up to the computer it goes from the apple screen, to please wait, very low battery, to the regular screen with a fully charged battery sign, to the "do not disconnect" screen with the battery charging.. When the "do not disconnect" screen appears, sometimes the computer recognizes it. But when it comes up it first says that an unknown error (-124)has occured and the ipod cannot be synced. And then it says the disk cannot be read or written to. After I press okay again, the screen goes to the apple and back to the please wait very low battery screen... and then in tunes it says the ipod cannot be synced because the required folder cannot be found. Then it comes up again and says iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings. Now I would try to do that, but I don't have a summary tab in the preferences, if the preference tab they refer to is under the edit section. For the couple of seconds the my ipod settings appear on the screen, the files on it aren't even the same as before. It says I only have 7.78GB of only songs on my 30GB. Not only do I have more than 7.78 GB of songs normally on my ipod, I have videos and games that also should appear. Everytime it reconnects however, the GB go down? Now its at 6.07GB
It also makes this beeping sound randomly. Sometimes it when the ipod goes into the very low battery screen, but sometimes it beeps during the apple screen, or sometimes during the do not disconnect screen.
The most frustuating thing for me is that about mid-March I sent my iPod away to get a new battery before my warrantee was up. I got it back the first week of April, good turn around period, but instead of getting my old ipod back, I got a refurbished one. Now this is happening to it, and my warantee is already up. I know it can't be the battery that's wrong with it, there may be something wrong with it, but I'm sure they know better than to give me an ipod with a dead ipod.
    Now it's coming up as 5.77 GB . . .
When it first happened, I was hoping that I could simply hook it up to the computer and click the restore button. This is impossible however because I can never get to the restore button before the computer unrecognizes my ipod.
