Native resolution does not fill entire external display

I've got one of the original MacBook Pros with the Mobility Radeon X1600 hooked up to a Samsung P2350G display (it's a 23" LCD panel.) The native resolution on the display is 1920x1080.
The display has inputs for both VGA and DVI. The DVI port however is used by a desktop PC already, so I use a DVI to VGA adapter on the MacBook Pro, and use the laptop panel as a secondary display.
The problem is that when I set the external display to its native resolution, I get vertical letterboxing and some flickering along the edges of the image. It does not horizontally fill the whole display as it should. I have tried the same adapter on the PC and it worked fine (though with rather spotty image quality.)
Resolutions that are lower than 1920x1080 work fine and fill the whole display properly. I'm not exactly sure what the issue is. The laptop is only semipermanently attached to the large display so I can live with a reduced image quality there, but the flickering, slightly distorted image is just not acceptable right now.

Sounds like it might be a sync issue. Have you tried powering the monitor off and then back on with the MBP connected to it? How about just temporarily disconnecting the DVI cable from the desktop PC and using that to plug into the MBP.

  • TS4085 the image does not fill entire screen of iPad, therefore not the entire TV screen.  Why?

When I try to mirror a video from my iPad to TV using Apple TV, the video does not fill entire screen of iPad nor the entire screen of my TV,  Is there a way to strech the image to fit screen(s)?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are two factors in play here. Firstly the iPad screen is 4:3, your TV is 16:9, so when mirroring the mirrored iPad screen is never going to fill the TV screen. If on top of that, whatever you are watching doesn't fill the iPad screen then that too will be reflected in what is seen in the mirrored image.
You cannot stretch this using the Apple TV or iPad controls, but your TV may have a setting you can use. Generally speaking though this will distort the image and you would likely be best leaving it alone.

  • Resolution does not match my external HD screen

I have a 15" MacBook Pro so I created my entire Keynote presentation in a smaller resolution so that it would fit on my 15" Mac. Now when I show it on an HD TV it does not proportionally fit the 16:9 1920x1080 screen size. Is there any way to change the attributes of my entire presentation to 1920x1080 so that it looks good on an HD 16:9 plasma TV? Please tell me that I do not have to start all over.
    Thanks,
    Brian

Okay I wont say you have to start over. Assuming your 15" MacBook Pro is 16:9 (it's just current models for that title isn't it?) your composition work is all done. If you resize your document to a larger pixel dimension KN09 will (fortunately) for you attempt to reposition and resize objects to get a best fit.
What's a best fit? Not sure: I made at exercise with shapes and some kept there aspect ratio and scaled up proportionally. When on edges they stayed on edges. Other objects that had already been stretched non-proportionally from edges to centre of slide stretch non-proportionally to stay edges to centre. Text in the centre stayed centred.
So I guess it takes a guess based on past interaction with objects and position as to how it will re-dimension them. Haven't tested for images/ videos as I knew you'd want to try out something for yourself. Never be afraid just to try it out and profile results!!

UPDATE: I just came back after a visit to the apple service provider here in New Delhi. They have replaced the logic board on my macbook pro and guess what? the situation is still the same. No difference what so ever as far as the screen resolution is concerned. I can still see those black bars in the exact same places i.e. the right hand side as well as on the top of the screen. Even the size of the black bars are still the same.
I am so upset right now. After trying my best in order to solve this problem I went to the AASP with high hopes. I was very confident that after replacing the logic board this annoying problem would go away but unfortunately that's not the case. Even the Apple Engineer was clueless on how to solve this problem.
I think I'll call apple care and speak to the customer relations regarding a replacement.
If any of you can come up with a solution to this problem please let me know.

  • Windows 7 desktop does not fill entire screen on macbook pro 17" (mid 2010)

    Hi,
First of all I apologize for posting such a long question but in order to best describe the problem I am having with my MacBook Pro, I had to mention every detail.
I recently installed windows 7 x64 home premium on my new macbook pro 17 inch (mid 2010). After successfully installing the bootcamp drivers (version 3.1) I have noticed that my screen resolution has become slightly smaller than before. There are half an inch thick black bars on the right side as well as on the top of the screen.
This problem is not limited to windows, I'm having the same problem in mac osx after the windows 7 installation. Even on the start up gray screen.
I have tried almost every trick in the book, adjusting the screen resolution from the display settings menu (which by the way are on 1920x1080), checking all the settings on the nvidia control panel, resetting the SMC, resetting the VRAM, running the hardware diagnostic test (short as well as the long one), formatting the windows partition, formatting the Mac OSX partition then performing a fresh install of both. So far, I have been frustrated with failure.
After trying my best to resolve this issue on my own, I tried my luck with apple support. The customer representative was very helpful and listened carefully as I explained the problem to him. He asked me first to check for any available updates on my mac osx as well as in win 7. I told him that I had already installed every available update in both the OS's. He then asked me to reset the SMC and after that to reset the VRAM. Even though I had already tried this, I still gave it another shot but that didn't help.
Since my MBP was still under the standard warranty, (I have also purchased the Apple Care Protection Plan) he asked me to take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider. I took his advice and went to the nearest AASP. The Apple Engineer over there performed the same steps, adjusting screen resolution, resetting SMC and VRAM, but even he was not able to resolve this problem. He suggested that I should get my graphics cars replaced or if required upon inspection, the logic board replaced. To be very honest, I was very skeptical about his suggestion as the laptop is brand new, hardly 2 months old. How is it possible that there could be a problem with the hardware? I asked him whether it is possible to restore the firmware of the graphics card as the problem could be software related. He said that Apple have not started issuing firmware restoration CD's for the latest mid 2010 MBP's so a firmware restore won't be possible. My best bet would be to get the graphics card replaced or the whole logic board replaced.
So you see, I have been down almost every possible road which could have lead to resolving this issue but unfortunately I am stuck with it. I hope any of you could offer a different approach in order to get rid of this annoying problem.
Any help would be highly appreciated. (Trust ME!!!)

  • Version 7.2.0 full screen mode does not appear in external display

I just upgraded to Version 7.2.0. The new full screen mode is fabulous. But, when the video starts, it moves the QuickTime window from my giant, external monitor to my laptop monitor. Is there some way to view video in full screen mode on my external monitor?
    Cheers,
    Greg
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Here's a solution I thought should work for QuickTime(not pro):
When you plug in an external monitor and choose to extend your desktop there is an extra tab in the "Display Settings" window for "arrangement". So, obviously on this page you can arrange your screens and decide which side you want your external monitor to extend your desktop on. Also, you can hold and drag the menu bar giving you the option of putting the menu bar on your external screen. So, one would think that the display that has the menu bar on it should be used as your default display. So, you would also think that QuickTime Player, when put into full screen mode, would use your "default" display to go into full screen. This seems logical, and possibly even desired behavior from a computer.
However, this is not the case. When I gave this a try no matter where you put your menu bar the QuickTime Player will always open its full screen mode in your MacBook Pro's display. What I propose is some how (though I'm unsure of how to do this) contact apple with a feature request that would allow you to explicitly set a default display and to have all applications use that display for when it goes into full screen.

  • Actual webpage content does not fill entire web browser.

how do i attach a screen shot to this inquiry?

This is occurring on only one page of one site, but the page zoom only enlarges the narrow box. In short, the box is still too shallow to view the necessary listed information without excessive scrolling. This is occurring on only my desktop computer, not my laptop.

An SD TV wouldn't even have an HDMI input.

  • Time Machine does not see my external HD

I would like to setup TM but it does not see my external HD, but I can see it on desktop in and finder. I can browse it. But time machine does not see it and forces me to use airport time capsule but I don't have it. Help please.

What format is the external drive in?
If it's formatted for Windows (either using the MBR partition table or using FAT/NTFS volumes) then Time Machine cannot back up to this disk.
The disk needs to be formatted as Mac OS X Extended using either the APM or GPT partition tables.
Life is complicated somewhat by the fact that the OS, in general, can read MBR/FAT drives, but they're not suitable for Time Machine (limitations in the disk formats prevent some of Time Machine's features from working).
You can check the current partition map/disk format in Disk Utility.app - just select the disk on the left and the information will be displayed below. If the disk is using MBR and/or FAT then you'd need to reformat the drive in order to use it with Time Machine.

  • Agent resolution does not agree with agents of task

    Hi Guys,
I extended B.O-IDOCAPPL to ZIDOCAPPL to catch the inbound error for the IDOC.
The workflow gets triggered correctly when we get the inbound error.
In the workflow i created a custom display method....this is a dialog method. Now when the workflow comes to this point it gives the message in the technical log
<i>" Result of agent resolution does not agree with agents of task"    </i>
<b>Now instead of calling this method if i just put a user decision it shows up fine in the users inbox.</b>
I have tried SWU_OBUF , Refresh from SWUS , Refresh from Inbox
Nothing seems to work, anyidea as to what's happening here ?

    I have tried :
    1.) hardcoding user ID
    2.) using a role
    3.) using WF initiator...
This is set up as a general task......
One interesting observation that i had... (If the below is irrelevant please ignore)
If i run the task via SWUS it executes but still does not evaluate the agents.. and then if i execute the workitem in SWIA it lets me execute...
Now if i trigger the workflow it executes but still does not evaluate the agents but it does not allow me to execute the workitem in SWIA , the technical log says workitem not found.

  • Why the photo does not fill all the paper ?

Hi, I am using a Deskjet 1000 printer.
Every time I try to print a 10x15cm photo on a 10x15cm photo paper it does not fill the entire paper. There is a margin on top and bottom (about 5mm) on left ( 15mm) and right side (3 mm).
I used Picasa and other softwares, tried different format settings without result.
It used to work perfectly with my previous Photosmart (which died recently...)
    Regards

    Hi Philoupop,
If this is your printer, it might be a product limitation for borderless printing. See paper handling section.
Hope this helps you clarify things!

  • TableColumn Label not filling entire column

    All
I have a table column with a Label but when I set the text and say set the background color that does not fill the entire TableColumn.

Not sure if you mean a column in a row ?
    You can use:
tableView.setColumnResizePolicy(TableView.CONSTRAINED_RESIZE_POLICY);This will expand the columns to fit the displayable area.
You can then use setPrefWidth(Double.MAX_VALUE) on the label to tell it to use all space made available by the expanded table cell.
    Label labelToDisplayInTab = new Label("bla bla");
    labelToDisplayInTab.setPrefWidth(Double.MAX_VALUE);Hope this helps.
If not then please supply a bit more information so that I can figure out exactly where your problem is.
