Nav attrib in master data

Hello,
i can't see any values for sales dist which is nav attrib of 0sold_to. All my r/3 transactions capture cutomer values in 0sold_to object.
0sold_to is created with reference 0customer.
0customer also has sales dist as nav attrib.
My reports and cubes don't show any values for sales dist. i want sales dist to be picked up from customer master data and displyed in reports.
i have loaded 0customer master data and it(master data for 0customer) shows values for sales dist.
i have not loaded 0sold_to seperately(as it is reference to 0customer).
Please suggest....

anyways, can u please elaborate on the need to run attribute change run? also do we need to select the infoObjects(which ones) in the attrib change run screen or do i need to run it for all objects availble?
also how do i use transaction rsrv? i have never used it before!!

Mulit-level linking to master data via navig attribs: A saga in two parts

The Saga, Part 1
I have a requirement to provide access to a hierarchy belonging to a characteristic that is not contained in an infocube. At first I thought I was going to have to add this characteristic to the cube, but then I realized the characteristic is a navigational attribute of another characteristic that is contained in the cube.
The Question, Part 1
Will users be able to use this navigational attribute as a selection criterion on reports, and will they be able to activate and use the display hierarchy associated with this characteristic? (I'm anticipating the answer to this question will be yes.)
The Saga, Part 2
Assuming the answer to the above is yes, let's carry this one step further. The navigational attribute described above (let's call it the "local" navigational attribute) also possesses navigational attributes, one of which users want to be able to use as a selection criterion on the same report (let's call this one the "remote" navigational attribute). They also want to be able to use the display hierarchy on this remote attribute.

I know this is a long shot, but can a navigational attribute of a navigational attribute be accessed in BEx? Can that remote navigational attribute be used as a selection criterion? Can its hierarchy be used in a query? The scenario would look something like the following:
BASIC CHAR (contained in infocube)

The answer is yes. It helps not to have the IO in the cube and still use it in the front end.

When read this thread, I was curious to see if it works or not. I did try to do this on coorder, plant and plant category. Guess what, it didnt work. I even flagged it NAVIGATIONAL ATTRIBUTE INFOPROVIDER in the IO maintenance to see it reflects on the cubes navigational attributes
No this scenario wont work.
So in the infocube maintenance you need to see something like this basic char__local navig__remote nav to make the scenario work. Which is obviously unavailable in the cube maintenance.
I would love to see some one make this work. Reduces lot of effort to realign data in the cube if there is a problem in the master data.

I have a Update rule in which i have an Update Method "Master Data Attrib of " with Time dependency
basically we are loading (update rule of )   0PAYROLL AREA ,
              at Master data attribute of we have 0EMPLOYEE
              at Time Dependency When reading Master Data END radio button is checked
              frm it is mention as 0CALDAY.
please explain what is function of 0calday here?
I understand that 0PAYROLL AREA is a attribute of 0Employee and since from R/3 we are getting only 0EMPLOYEE so we are filling it from 0employee but what is the significance of 0CALDAY here?

It fills the valid value of 0PAYROLL for a particular 0EMPLOYEE in a particular time frame.
Elaboration.
Say Employee          Payroll                  Valid from          Valid to
        RG                    1000000                 01.01.2007        31.12.2007
        RG                    2000000                 01.01.2008        31.12.2008
        RG                    3000000                 01.01.2009        31.12.2009
The if your transaction data has RG employee in it with a transaction on 0CALDAY = 12.05.2007 then the valid payroll at that time would be 100000.
On Calday 05.05.2009 your payroll would be 300000.........
So for different days different payroll values would be valid.
You require calday to find out which payroll value is valid in the timeframe of a transaction.
In your update rule it is bringin the value of valid attribute value for the time of the transaction.

Do I need to refresh Info Providers when I chg the Mast Data attri to Nav

Can any tell me, When I change an attribute of master data, material to a navigation. Do I need to refresh data to info provider, cube?. If this cube is part of the multi provider. In What sequence I need to make the changes?. I assume.
1. change to the master data.
2. then assign the dimention to it at the multiprovider level.
3. then Identity in the multiprovider.
4. available in the query

Is not necesary to refresh infoprovider.
1.- Change attribute in master data from only attribute to navigational.
2.- Set navigational attribute as navigational in all infoproviders in the multiprovider.

Flexible Upload of master data including attributes - error at new attrib.

Dear all,
trying to use the flexible upload for loading master data with attributes the system aborts if there new values have to be created for attributes, e.g. New Business Unit has region FR, Region FR actually does not exist as key. Therefore at first the value for Region has to be created within BCS and after that the load of the new Business Unit will be successful.
Does anybody know if it possible or which seeting within the upload customizing must be chosen that the new attribut value automatically could be created during upload of the main characteristic?

Hello Dieter,
your first way was the right way - befor you can upload Business Units with attribut FR you have to create the attribute in BCS.
It is not possible to create master data for two different characteristics in one flexible upload method.
In the definition of the upload method you have to choose which characteristic you try to upload...

Process chain master data: attributes or Text load first?

I understand as attributes those characteristics defined as nav. attrib for a characteristic. For example I have char. material with attrib source, destine, manufacturer, country etc. So my understanding was first to load all text (code and description) for each one of the characteristics (inc. attributes) and later load properly for a material X all of its attribute values x1,x2,x3....
I am correct ?
becuase if I load first attributes as I understand them, maybe some codes that I update at posteriori will note have their attribute values loaded

as of the sequence master first and transact after is clear but allow me to rephrase my question :
when I use a text datasource i will be filling code and descriptive for a characteristic so for my case material will have all codes and descriptives from R/3. (010 - winston, 020 - marlboro, 030 - camel)
The same for loading attributes master data (for me again text: code and descriptive). In my case lets say attribute is factory so will be 001 spain, 002 france, 003 USA, 004 Germany).
later when I use attribute datasources understand that will be loading for each of my products loaded in step 1 the respective values for their attributes. That is for product 010 load their factory lets say 002 ...
I am a beginner so please let me know if I am misunderstanding anything ?

Change of Master Data after compounding addition

Hi,
I have changed one info object, changes are mentioned as below:
Activated it as master data
Added one compounding attribute
This info object is already being used in various data targets in production environment which holds data.
Now what shall be the steps in case we transport this change to the production environment.
The only solution i can think right now is to delete the data from existing data targets and reload the data
Could you please suggest if there is any alternate approach to it through which i need not to delete data.

If you want to Add compounding to the existing MD -
-Delete TD data where it is being used
-Delete MD
-Make sure all the SIDs has been deleted
Add compounding to the MD and reactivate flow before and upwards(TR , DTP ..etc)
Before transport .. perform all the above actions in target sys and do transport
If you want to add new IOs as NAv to the existing MD
-ADD - Activate - transport!!

Master Data Attribute is not getting reflected in the Cube?

Hi All,
I have loaded the data from ODS to the cubes for customer master and it contains a lot of navigational attributes
for instance :
master data for customer in development is
customer customer group 5(nav attributes) Customer pricing group
1001 HAW IE
And hence when i load the customer 1001 from the ods to the cubes i can see the customer contains navigtional attributes for customer pricing group but CUSTOMER GROUP5 doesnt gets displayed in the cube.
I check the master data it contains the values for customer group. How to Rectify this issue?

hi all,
I have explicity clicked on the navigational attributes in the cube i can see the values for the other navigational attributes being displayed in the cube for customer master but then only one navigational attribute is not getting displayed.
For instance
customer, customer gp2, customer grp5
100, nr, nv
only customer grp5 is not getting displayed which has values in the master data but then customer grp2 along with customer is getting displayed.

Data load stuck from DSO to Master data Infoobject

Hello Experts,
We have this issue where data load is stuck between a DSO and master data infoobject
Data uploads from DSO( std) to master data infoobject.
This Infoobject has display and nav attributes in it which are mapped from DSO to Infoobject.
Now we have added a new infoobject as attribute to the master data infoobject and made it as NAV attri.
Now when we are doing full load via DTP the load is stuck and is not processing.
Earlier it took only 5 mns of time to complete the full load.
Please advise what could be the reason and cause behind this.

Error while assigning infoobject to the read master data in rule type

Hi sdns,
I want to read the zwostd info object data from zemployee master infoobject attribute list. For that i have selected rule details of zwostd infoobject in transformation of info cube, then i am tring to select the read master data rule type. It is taking more time and then it displayed error like permitted time was exceeded. Could any one please give me the solution for this problem.

Sometimes directly typing the infoobject name in the field helps - otherwise it tries to fetch all the infoobjects available which is possibly why the time out occurs..?
Enter the Master Data infoobject directly and then you will get the fields assigned.
However my experience with read master data has been that whenever you change the master data IOBJ by way of adding / removing Nav Attributes / attributes etc - all the transformations using the read master data for the IOBJ that is being changed will get deactivated and it is a pain reactivating and transporting them again - particularly so when you are developing something on them and the changes are stuck across multiple requests ...
IMHO use a routine instead to do the same - it involves lesser maintenance. SAP is anyway going to run a similar SQL...

Long DDIC Activation for Master Data Change During Transport

Good Morning Folks,
During transport of a change to a custom master data object to production, the data dictionary activation is taking a very long time and using a very large amount of space.
The change to the master data object was adding three additional navigational attributes. This master data is not time-dependant. The master data contains about 1.2 million records and has 49 active navigational attributes u2013 including the three new ones. The Data Dictionary activation is executing report SAPLRSDU for more than 8 hours and is using upwards of 52GB of temp filespace (of 92GB allocated) during this time. To the best of our knowledge, it looks as if it is trying to recreate or repopulate the /BIC/Pxxxx table of the master data. It looks like it's reading billions of records (probably the same 1.2 m records over and over.)
There are no errors in any logs that we can see.
Previous changes to this master data object have been successful, and reasonably fast. And the transport of this change from Dev to our QA environment was very fast.
We still need to get this change in, as well as additional changes that are dependant. Why would this take so long, and is there anything we can do to get this to run faster?
BTW: We are on 3.5 (but looking forward to NW7.)

Usually adding nav attributes would mean that the X and y tables get regenerated...
Also do you notice reads only on the P-Table or other tables which have this object as well..?
If it is only the P Table - try refreshing the stats for the same...

Reporting on master data customer and bad performances : any workaround ?

Hello,
I've been asked to investiguate on bad performances encountered when performing reporting
on the specific master data zcustomer.
Basically this master data has a quite similar design that 0customer, there are 96000 entries in the master data table.
A simple query has been developed : the reporting is done on the master data zcustomer and its attributes : no key figure, no calculation, no restriction ...
Nevertheless, the query can not be executed .. the query runs around 10 minute in rsrt, then the private memory is exhausted and then a short dump is generated.
I tried to buid a very simple query on 0customer, this time, without the attributes ... and it took more than 30 sec before I get the results.
I checked the queries statistics :
3.x Analyzer Server 10 sec
OLAP: Read Texts : 20 sec
How is it that it is so long to performthe reporitng on those master data, while in the same time If i try to display the content in SAP by choosing "maintain master data", I have an immediate answer.
I there any workaround ?
Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi.
How much data have you got in the cube?
If you make no restrictions, you are asking the system to return data for all 96.000 customers. That is one thing that might take some time.
Also, using the attributes of this customer object, fx making selection or displaying several of them, means that the system has to run through the 96.000 records in masterdata to know what goes where in the report.
When you display the masterdata, you are by default displaying just the 250 or so first hits, and you are not joining against any cube or sorting the result set, so that is fast.
You should make some kind of restriction on other things than zcustomer (time, org.unit, version, etc, to limit the dataset from the cube, but also a restriction on one of the zcustomer attribs, with an index for that maybe, and performance should improve.

Impact on transactional Loads if Master data is not loaded

Scenario for your reference:
The loads to ZPO_LINE from PC3 was failing for past 20 days from The fix was applied on April 21.
I need help to decide the effects of not loading ZPO_LINE for past 20 days. And create a detailed plan for data loads required.
If the master data is not loaded for 20 days will it affect the transaction loads happened during those days?
And how can i find out the impact and correct the transaction data if it does?

Hi,
If i understand your scenario, you have a scenario where the Master data load has not been updated for the last 20days but, the transaction data was loaded without any interruption.
In such a scenario, the Transactional loads will only be affected if there is some field which undergoes transformation after looking up on the master data.
So, first load the master data and run the attrib change run process.
After this, if the transaction data is in full update mode, then you dont need to do anything as data will be refreshed with correct values in the next load.
If delta loads are there, you might need to performa full repair.
