Navigation pane doesn't function in Firefox

I'm using RoboHelp HTML version 8 to publish WebHelp. In addition to shipping help with the product, we also make the latest help available on a customer web site. I've got Firefox 3.6 on my machine, and when I open our help in Firefox, the navigation pane is not functional. When I open the help system from the web site, the Contents and Index tabs are completely empty. When I open it from my hard drive or from a server here at the office, a few of our books appear in the Contents, but no topics are listed when you open them.
I searched for similar posts to try to find an answer, but couldn't find anything that explained the problem:
- We're not running any scripts.
- I don't have the Firebug plug-in installed.
- I turned off the popup blocker in Firefox.
- We publish merged help, so I opened each project to verify that they all have the same language selected. They do.
Any help is appreciated!
-Melanie

Just a quick update to include some information that I learned from my co-workers:
The help works fine when viewed in Chrome. (Also in IE, as I said earlier.)
If you wait long enough (5 minutes or more), the index and TOC show up in Firefox when viewed from the community website. (I hadn't realized this. I never waited that long!)
When viewed locally, the TOC never shows more than a handful of books -- and no topics-- no matter how long you wait. They're always the same books. (The local files are more recent than those published to the community website, and apparently we've added something that Firefox reallly doesn't like.)
I think this is a problem with Firefox rather than RoboHelp, and fortunately it's not a "must fix" for us. I was just hoping that if I put it out on the community, someone might have seen the same thing and figured out a work-around.
BTW, we are loving RH8!!
Thanks!
Melanie

  • Navigation Pane Doesn't Work

For some reason, the Navigation Pane in my MS Word doesn't work.  I usually use the toggle from my quick access toolbar to toggle it on and off.  It worked fine last night.  This morning, I open the document and I hit Ctrl F to see the Navigation
Pane, but MS Word didn't respond.  I tried to toggle in the quick access toolbar and there was no response.  I went to the View and I tried the Navigation Pane toggle, but there was nothing.  Anyone know how I can bring the Navigation Pane back?

    Hi David,
Please also try deleting the Word Data registry subkey to see if the problem was caused by a damaged Word Data registry key.
Note When you delete the Word Data registry subkey, Word resets several options to their default settings. For example, Word resets the "most recently used file" list on the
File menu. Also, Word resets many settings that you customize in the
    Options dialog box.
    1. Exit all Office programs.
    2. In Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap
Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.) Type
regedit in the search box, tap or click Apps, and then tap or click
    Run.
Or, in Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP, click Start, click
Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running:
    Word 2013
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Data
    Word 2010
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Data
    Word 2007
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
    Word 2003
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data
    4. Click Data, and then click Export on the
    File menu.
    5. Name the file Wddata.reg, and then save the file to the desktop.
    6. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click
    Yes.
    7. Exit Registry Editor.
    8. Start Word.
Please let me know the result.

  • Navigator-Window doesn´t function using big sized Disigns over 3 meters (Illustrator CS4)

    Hi all,
I think this is a bug. Perhaps you have a solution for me.
I need a flag in the  dimensions 1.2 meters (wide) and 3.0 meters (build up). In "Setting up document" I entered the values in centimeters.
The problem is when I  want to move the red rectangle in the Navigator, the desktop, canvas layer moves  completely uncoordinated only in one direction.
The only thing I can do is to scroll with the scrollbars or the mouse-wheel. As I have to zoom in, this kind of workarround is realy bad for me.
Who knows the problem and  has a solution?  I use Illustrator CS4.
    Thanks for your help.

    thanks for your answer.

  • Navigation Pane not working

    Hi all,
I have created a Publisher report in RFT format with a RFT template. Publisher version is 11g.
In RTF template I can properly see the Navigation Pane (titles are in the right style).
In Publisher report, navigation pane doesn't work: every title is in style normal, so the navigation pane is empty.
Can someone help me in fixing this issue?
Is there any known bug in Publisher 11g that can explain why titles change their format when passing from the RTF template to the Publisher report?
    Thanks in advance.
    Laura

What you did "wrong" was use a graphics program to create HTML. Open Dreamweaver and build your navigation menu there, from scratch, using images exported from Fireworks.
I've looked at Fireworks code, before. It's ugly and convoluted, which makes troubleshooting and maintenance next to impossible.

  • TOC, Search, Index not appearing in navigation pane in Firefox

I have a problem with a Help system that seems familiar with a number of other discussions on this forum, but I haven't found anything directly relatable to it.
I have a WebHelp system generated using RH8. The Help has window-level context sensitivity. The Help system is deployed on a secure (HTTPS) server. When launching the Help from IE8, everything works as expected. However, launching the Help from Firefox (3, 8, or 9), the default topic appears and the Help is fully navicable except the contents for the navigation pane will not appear. The frame and the buttons (Contents, Index, Search) appear, but the content is missing. I can enter an Index term to search, but search doesn't return anything.
When I access the compiled Help system locally (not from a Web server), the navigation pane works correctly within Firefox.
My best guess after scouring a number of discussions, threads, and forums, is that it would appear that there is some issue with the Javascript affecting the context sensitivity and the left-frame functionality when deployed on a secure server using Firefox. However, I haven't come across anything that has worked as a solution.
    Any other avenues to explore?

Try to open the right-click context menu of the Back button and see if you can go back further.
The current active entry in that list has a bullet in front of it.
If you hover an entry in that session history list then it shows the direction by adding an arrow at the left.
You can left click an item to open it in the current tab or middle-click or Ctrl left-click an entry in that list to open that link in new tab, just like you can with other links.

  • Hiding Navigation Pane in Adobe Acrobat/Reader 8.x

Is there some way to hide the navigation pane programmatically ? I know that you can set this as a PDF document property, but that doesn't do me any good. Why is there a way to hide the tool bar and a way to tell the PDF to be viewed without bookmarks and thumbnails, but no way to hide the navigation pane?

    Leonard,
I've developed APIs before on various products I have worked on over the past 27+ years in software development. When I built those APIs I tried to expose a consistent set of functionality out of the gate, that I thought would benefit folks who were trying to leverage our APIs. Being able to show/hide various UI components, at a minimum, is a big win. Why some components have this functionality exposed and others done, seems puzzling to me. And omission, really. There are 10 posts in this thread and I have seen others in this forum asking the same exact question. Are API requests derived from this forum? I kind of assumed that since you worked for Adobe, one of the tasks that a forum monitor/forum moderator does is pass useful customer feedback onto the development group. If this is not the case and I need to "formally" request this somewhere else, please let me know where such a mechanism exists.
What are the chances that "requests" get implemented? I needed this functionality yesterday, not a release or two from now.

  • Navigation pane not showing in merged output on server (IE9)

    RH10 | WebHelp
We've moved our WebHelp outputs from an externally maintained server to an in-house server, but the left-hand navigation pane isn't displaying in our merged Help system. In our user guide (which isn't merged) the pane displays fine, but in our release notes (which is a merged system) it doesn't want to show itself. The main navigation pane and topic pane are fine, it's just the left-hand navigation pane that's blank.
I'm running IE9, but the weird thing is that it displays correctly in Firefox. It also works when run locally.
Both Help systems worked absolutely fine on the previous server, so I'm wondering if there's a conflict with something else that's running on the new server (e.g. our website's CMS, etc.) or whether it's a permissions thing?
My issue seems similar to other posts on here, but I'm using IE9 not IE11.
I'd be grateful for any ideas.
    Thanks
    Jonathan

  • I use a browser application called Changepoint...a project time recording tool. It does not navigate to the project folders or interact at all using Firefox, only IE. What do I need to ask the tech team to troubleshoot why it doesn't work with Firefox?

See question. I'm assuming that I or them are missing something with the handshake once the basic appl is launched. The Changepoint appl does launch in the browser...it just doesn't function when you get into it, e.g. clicking on a hyperlink on the screen doesn't launch a sub-appl/module to show project folders. It doesn't crash the browser or window, it just doesn't do anything.

Check with Changepoint support and ask if that application is made to be compatible with Firefox, and which versions of Firefox it has been tested with.

  • Middle mouse button doesn't work in Firefox

On my Lenovo Thinkpad the middle mouse button, that scrolls a web page up and down, doesn't work in Firefox only. In all other programs (including IE) the scroll function of the trackpoint middle button works fine, but in Firefox not at all. One solution described at Firefox is to edit a pref for a "ui.trackpoint_hackenabled" parameter, and I did change that value to 1, and restarted Firefox, but NO luck.
    I'm using 4.0.1.

  • Word 2011 for Mac: Advanced question regarding the navigation pane--aka sidebar

    Hi everyone--
I'm a new Mac owner, with a Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, with 8GB RAM, 256GB storage. I'm operating on the latest OS (Maverick), freshly purchased from the Apple store today (July 5, 2014).
Can you help me figure out if there is some way, in Word 2011 for Mac, to use the navigation pane (aka Sidebar) to click and drag entire sections of the document to a new location? This was basic (advanced, but fundamental) functionality in every version of Word I've used in recent years on Windows machines, and it is the critical reason I purchased Word instead of using one of a dozen free options. My job involves managing and editing large documents--from 2500 to 90,000 words--and the navigation pane/sidebar is crucial to my sanity.
Previously, I would open the navigation pane and it would show me the structure of my document based on the Heading types. I could click on a heading (say, a chapter title), inside the navigation pane, and drag it to a new location elsewhere in the document. So simple to rearrange the structure of large documents this way. Now, in the Word 2011 for Mac, I can call up the navigation pane (now called the "sidebar") and view the structure of the doc, but I can't actually click and drag anything in the navigation pane.
Other than this, so far my switch to Mac has gone swimmingly. I love the machine, and am amazed at how much cleaner and easier it is to set up than Windows machines. I'm so frustrated that I even have to interface with Microsoft any more, but this one piece of functionality is critical to me.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
    Heather

    Dear Heather,
I don't know the specific answer to your question.
But as a new Mac owner, you should make sure that you are using the very latest version of Word 2011 for Mac.
My recommendation, if you haven't already done this, is to open Word and do Help > Check for Updates from Word's menu, and install any updates Microsoft has released.
They typically issue updates once or twice a month.
    Enjoy your Mac!

If so, yeah I read that one. Found out that this appears to

  • Can I adjust the width of the navigation pane?

Hello, I've got a WebHelp project. It will generally be used on touchscreens. This forum gave me great advice on making the fonts bigger for TOC and Indiex items by going to the WebHelp Skin Editor.
Well, I was wondering if I could actually make the width of the navigation pane wider. In the Skin Editor, you can drag the pane (like you can in compiled help, but that doesn't seem to hold upon compilation. Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, you can adjust the pane. Check out the Skinny on Skins for detailed steps. Click here
