Navigation within page no longer working

I am currently living in China and much to my dislike my mother and sister who live back home in the States are using my iMac as their main computer. I received an email from my mom today telling me that she cannot navigate within pages once she gets onto a website using Safari. Any idea what is causing this to happen? She did just have a new router and modem installed back home, if that has any impact at all.
Also, when the man from AT&T was at our house looking at the computer he asked why we weren't running a firewall or any type of anti-virus software for the iMac. Both times I have bought a computer from Apple they have said I do not need to invest in any type of firewall or anti-virus software. Is this the general consensus or are most of you using some sort of anti-virus software?

Basics first, I would think.
After they had the modem and router installed, did it work correctly?
Are your mother/sister ever emptying the Safari cache & History list?
That would be my first guess, assuming it worked in the beginning.
Your Mac has a firewall. It's very easy to turn on in System Preferences.
That's all they need, IMHO.
No other apps are necessary, as far as I'm concerned.

Blog page no longer works, mp3 now mov

I recently changed computers to a new iMac. After updating my podcast/blog using iWeb 2.0.4, at least three problems have occurred:
1. some (not all) of my .mp3 files appear .mov files at iTunes
2. the archive of the podcast page no longer works
3. the blog page doesn't work
When you click on the blog page, it returns this error message:

OK. Here's what I did based on the recommendations above:
1. I reconverted all the audio files with VBR. This seems to have stopped the conversion of .mp3 files to .mov video files.
2. I reconstructed my blog. In hindsight, this may not have been necessary in view of #3.
3. I published the site using File<Publish All to MobileMe. This took a LONG time; best leave it for an overnight exercise if you try this at home.
Upon awakening in the morning, lo and behold my site and its archives had returned! The only thing that didn't work was my iTunes link, which returned the news that my podcast was not available in the US store. I was using the short link as per the tech spec:

This one works, however::

So it appears that Publish All is the trick when moving up to iWeb 2.0 from 1.0. And VBR seems to keep audio files as mp3 files, for reasons I do not understand. Thank goodness this was a relatively new podcast site with only 12 episodes.
If anyone has an explanation for the iTunes glitch above, I'd be most appreciative. I'm going to keep this thread alive until I post another episode to see what happens.

Why do the navigation bar page hyperlinks not work when site is published? There are no objects or boxes over. Works fine until published live. Help!!!

New animations that are made responsive within edge no longer working in squarespace

i have posted numerous edge files to squarespace in the past with no problems. recently though, for whatever reason, animations that have been made responsive in edge no longer work as expected and require some hacky workarounds in order to display properly. when you inspect the code for the page, the .js files and all the css and images are included as per usual, but the animation never starts. when i include some text in the #Stage div the text will appear on the page for a fraction of a second (styled as it should with our web font and size, etc.), then the styles are stripped, then the text will vanish. all of this happens in less than a second.
this made me think it's some sort of .js or .css file that gets loaded in after the animation that's causing it to not work properly, but i can't figure out what it might be.
i was just curious if anyone else was having these problems, and might know of a solution. my old edge files that are still on ss are working fine. if i take old edge files and create a new article they still work. it is only newly saved edge files that are made responsive that no longer work correctly. edge animations that don't include responsive aspects work as expected.
i'm not sure if this is an edge or a squarespace problem, but i figured i'd ask here as well.

I appreciate your help on this. I am getting different results. First, I am getting some additional problems that I've never had with earlier versions of Excel (as I said, I'm running Excel 2013 now).
I have a workbook with several worksheets. With one of the sheets, any attempt to print or print preview fails. I do File > Print, and I see that the selected printer is my HP LaserJet M2727. This is the default printer. There is
no print preview, except for a small box that contains the words "Show Print Preview." When I click on that the small box is replaced with the words "Print preview is not available." On the left hand side, where the printer is identified, there
is a green check mark on the printer icon and below this is the link that states "Printer Properties." If I click on Printer Properties the green check mark changes to a red X and the word Ready is replaced with "Unable to Connect."
Without changing anything, other than selecting a different sheet within the same workbook, I get very different results and they do not match your results. Again I do a File Print and again I click in the small box that says "Show Print Preview."
This time a preview appears with NO message box. However, if I customize the Quick Access Toolbar by adding the "Print Preview Full Screen" button and then click this button without first clicking on File, then the message box appears.
So, are you getting the message box by clicking on File > Print, or are you clicking on the "Print Preview Full Screen" quick access toolbar button?

My finger print scanner for logging on to web pages no longer works in firefox 4

My laptop has a finger print scanner that manages passwords. You scan your finger to log on to various pages or accounts instead of typing in the log in information. It worked flawlessly in the older version of Firefox, but since upgrading to Firefox 4 it no longer works. I checked and it still works with Windows.

Is the a Digital Persona fingerprint scanner, also used in teh HP SimplePass Identity Manager? If do the company that make the bioscanner have abandoned it. For more details see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/799388

App Store Pages no longer works on Snow Leopard after upgrade

I bought Pages (and Numbers and Keynote) from the App Store last summer. I have been using it on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with no problems up until a few weeks ago. Since then I must have told the App Store application to update all applications with updates (though I don't particularly remember doing that), and now when I attempt to open Pages I get a dialog box saying "You can't use this version of the application Pages.app with this version of Mac OS X. You have Mac OS X 10.6.8. The application requires Mac OS X 10.7.4". This is outrageous. How can a routine update of a App Store app stop it from working without any kind of warning? How do I revert to a version that will work on Snow Leopard? Don't just tell me that Pages isn't supported on Snow Leopard, because the version I bought last summer has been working just fine. Am I supposed to Google through pages and pages of information looking for warnings before I upgrade each application before updating? (I also own Aperture.) And what if I make a mistake and accidentally upgrade to a version that no longer works?

Which version of Pages 09 do you have? You don't need higher version than 4.0.4 on Snow Leopatd. Here you can download the iWork 9.0.4 update.

THE LINKS AT THE TOP OF ANY WEB PAGE NO LONGER WORK. wHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS

WITHIN THE LAST FEW DAYS NO MATTER WHAT WEBSITE I GO TO THE LINKS IN THE BANNER OR TOP PORTION OF THE PAGE DO NOT WORK. THE SYSTEM DOESN'T SEEM TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE LINKS WHEN I HOVER OVER THEM I GET THE MOUSE ARROW ICON INSTEAD OF THE HAND LIKE I DO ON ALL OTHER LINKS ON THE PAGE. THE LINKS ON THE SIDES AND BOTTOM OF THE PAGE WORK JUST FINE. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS?

Print / Export on web page no longer works for Crystal Report

I am honestly at a loss, for days, the report would allow me to click on the printer icon and print to PDF or export the result of the report, but now, all I get is a blank page when the page refreshes. It no longer asks me for print range or anything. I thought this might be a IE 6 setting, but after reviewing the settings and placing the site in my trusted sites list, I still can't print.Is there a web.config setting I need to know about to make sure that export and print are enabled?
I get no error messages at all, it is as if the button is broke, but I have no way to troubleshoot the innerworkings of crystal xi r2 buttons on the web page. If I could just step though the script it uses that would atleast let me see what is going on, but right now, I am stuck.

I've went a bit farther than that, I created a virtual directory and placed the aspx file (and its associated ascx and designer files) into that folder along with the report, then I placed a basic web.config file with only crystal required elements within that folder. I disconnected that version of the viewing page from the master web file so that it no longer used a master file, I setup the assembly register at the top under the control section, then I placed the viewer and source on that page. Same end result, the report shows but when clicking on any option, the page is blank but source shows that there is javascript there. My report is not autobound, it is programatically generated from a click of a button.
These were my assumptions:
1) when the report is generated, it is on the page and the session information has everything it needs to know about the report
2) when an option is selected, either clicking on the tree, the zoom, the print or export (or other options), that the view information is passed back during the postback event to the controls so that the report would not have to be regenerated
What I am finding out, at the very least through trials, is that an autobound report, the controls work, but a manual bound report, the pages are blank after selection of any of the listed javascripted items. On top of that, the only time that this seems to be working on a manual bound page is that the page can contain nothing but the report and that the report must be rebuilt on page_load event. Which is not good.
What 'should' be the desired design, is that Crystal writes to a session variable, the report data so that on a post back event, it understands what we want without having to do a full report reload. This would be optional of course because in its current design, each event triggered causes a repost of new data and never last pulled information, so that if there was a change in records, the event pulls the most up to date information. This is not documented anywhere that I have found for web design.
So then, another problem along the same lines has arrisen. As you say, Crystal doesn't play well with AJAX, but AJAX is a requirement for the project and I need to have a progress bar for the report since ultimately the page is waiting on the report to show. Depending on the report and the postback, this could be a while, If it takes a minute for the initial view of the report to show, all events on the page will trigger a full refresh of the report and subsequent pulls will take the same time since the controls don't allow for 'use posted data' instead of 'pull new data'.
Taking your suggestion, I removed the view from the panel and placed it above the panel control. At this point, the tree node script works, the zoom script works, all of the controls in the control colection on the report work, except export and print, those two still do not work. This is with me also placing the call to the buildreport on page_load event.
What is even more troubling, is that not until I had removed the UpdatePanel and UpdateProgress controls from the page completely did the export or print work at all. With the fact those two exist anywhere on the page in general causes a problem. Again, not a desired result. I need a live visual effect for the user that something is going on because some of the reports take seconds while others can take minutes depending on the pull and they need to know that 'something' is going on.
Removing UpdatePanel and UpdateProgress is not an option.

Apple Start page no longer works with Safari 1.3.2?

I just set up an iBook G3 with Mac OS X 10.3.9, with all updates, and opened Safari, which is set to got to the Apple Start page initially:

Safari loads the page, but two areas are blank: the "Hot News Headlines" in the middle of the page, and the "iTunes Movie Trailers" on the left side. No content appears in these areas. If I click on the "All" next to "Hot News Headlines" a page of html-code text appears.
When I load this page in Firefox or Camino, these areas have the expected content: text in "Hot News Headlines" and a picture in "iTunes Movie Trailers".
I know Safari 1.3.2 is pretty old now, and cannot be upgraded to anything later, since it's integrated with 10.3.9; for this reason I recommend using a more current browser such as Camino or Firefox with this System. But I was just wondering: has anyone else seen this behavior? Is Apple's own web page now too much for Safari 1.x to handle?

Yes, Safari v1.3.2 is quite dated by today's standards. And yes, the Apple StartPage doesn't work for me either 100% on Safari v1.3.2.
Most Panther users have migrated to Camino. FireFox 2 is no longer updated for Panther either.
On Panther I use Opera and SeaMonkey.

Also the back and forward buttons no longer have the history down arrow to jump back to a previous page and is missed. version used is 4.01 on xp pro sp3

Keyboard navigation of iTunes no longer works after upgrade to 11.0.2.25

Since upgrading to the new version of iTunes my Microsoft keyboard no longer controls the iTunes player. Keyboard still works for WMP, Winamp etc.

This was corrected in iTunes 11.0.2.26.

The enter key to login pages no longer works in Firefox 5

After upgrading to Firefox 5 hitting the enter key after entering my password on login page does nothing. Before it would submit the page. This was a problem with the beta, too, and I had to downgrade to 4 to fix it. That works fine in 4.

Yes, this is a stupid behaviour. I have it too. Also, in textboxes it doesn't give me new line.
The form sending you can solve via hitting Ctrl + Enter.

Pages no longer works after adding app store

Added app store this morning, only added the twitter app, and now Pages refuses to open. Doing software updates did not help. iWork 09. Keeps giving me error message that this version of pages not compatible with this operating system...

Try repairing disk permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Using Win 7 Pro, 64-bit OS SP1 w/ all updates; after upgrading to Firefox 21.0 the serch field in the middle of the Mozilla Firefox Start Page no longer works.

I can type in the search field. Clicking the mouse on the search button or hitting the "Enter" key has no effect. Search from the Firefox address bar or the search window at the top of Firefox browser still works normally. Never encountered this problem before. Have been using Firefox since it first came out.

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the browser.search.defaultenginename pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.

Facebook Lollipop friends Pages no longer work

I click to Suck a Lollipop and the page is dead. I reload the page sometimes a few times then it operates again. No such issues in Firefox. UGHHH
This began with the New Safari. It's broken folks.

Try emptying the Safari cache from the Safari Menu Bar.
I understand when an app has worked previously without problems, but web sites can have problems anytime. They might need to update their HTML.
It won't hurt to at least try their help center.
Is you Safari version up to date? Should be 4.0.3 ??
