NavTeq vs TeleAtlas Geocoding

Hi,
Several months ago we looked into purchasing the geocoding directories for use with Data Services 12.2.  At the time I believe we identified three possible options:
-     Geocoding for US by NavTeq
-     Geocoding Parcel for US by NavTeq
-     Geocoding for US by TeleAtlas
Can anyone shed some light on the differences between these three options and is there one option which is clearly the best to use in most circumstances.
Thanks,
Grant

Grant,
This would be a question to ask of Sales as they would have this type of information to share with you.
Thanks,
Paula

  • Why aren't there any English GPS maps for Japan?

I mean, why? There are GPS maps for almost every developed country, but for Japan there are none that i know of (neither Navteq nor Teleatlas, which are the two major cartography companies out there).
I've seen several Japanese GPS solutions, but they unfortunately don't have an English option. I've never seen a major company like TomTom or Garmin (among many others), offering a solution for that market.
So, what company does the cartography out there (Navteq or Teleatlas like), and why doesn't TomTom or Garmin use their data in order to develop an English GPS solution? There has to be some kind of logical explanation.
    Kind Regards.

Since this is the only way of getting navigation for Japan, Pakistan and Cyprus which Nokia have choosen to avoid providing for with Nokia Maps, presumably you would rather OP was left in ignorance of technical feasibility of it's use upon Symbian devices.

  • Where do I download non navigable maps?

I have a N82 and have map loader installed.
Nokia, on the web site says that there are various basic non navigable maps available for the N82, but i cannot find a link to where these maps may be downloaded?
Can anyone help, I'm off on my travels on Saturday and even base map info might be useful.

Hiya - Yes the phone should save the mapping information.
There is a way to check this - if you go into the Nokia Maps options you should be able to configure Maps to ask you before going online.
Once you have done this, quit Maps, then reload it and do a search for places/countries you wish to have mapping data for (e.g. Islamabad) - the phone should be able to display the maps previously loaded without having to go online.
To be honest, given I take the planning and preparation stage of any journey as being the most important, if you have enough space on your phone I'd be tempted to use MapLoader and just download maps for countries in the region of where you want to go - which should then cover the EXACT countries of where you want to go. The reason for this is that I'm not 100% sure whether when you do a search for a place (e.g. London) whether it downloads the whole of England's mapping data, or just the bit of London that you can see on your screen - and obviously given the difference in charges for data, you don't want to be finding that out when you're there !
Also - one other thing to consider - mapping data for regions such as Islamabad won't be the best or most up to date in the world. For example, when a friend and I were driving in Ireland recently some roads/paths etc. weren't on the map - this isn't the fault of Nokia Maps - more of the mapping data supplied by either Navteq or TeleAtlas - and that's just Ireland !
My advice would be to get paper maps and use your phone as a backup.
    Hope this helps.

  • Uninstall Nokia Map 2

    Hi
How to remove Nokia Map V2 from my E90 and how to reinstal Nokia Map V 1...any help would be appriciated..
Nokia Map V2 is the worst of the application I have ever seen from anyone,...I am hard nokia fan and have never used anyother phone in last 15 years...but it seems the time has come to move on seeing the way Nokiahas designed Map 2....Aaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

What is your specific issue with Maps 2? The main bugbear for some people is that Maps 2 uses almost entirely Navteq map data, whereas data was more evenly spread between Navteq and Teleatlas under Maps 1.2. A small number of countries have seen map data drop in quality since the switch from 1.2 to 2.
In general, Maps 2 functions much better, searches easier and has considerably better GPS signal handling properties than its predecessor.
If you really want to get back to 1.2, back up your personal data (contacts, messages etc.) with PC Suite then reformat the phone with the code *#7370#. Provided that your phone's current firmware was prebundled with Maps 1.2, you'll revert back. However, if you have a recent version of phone firmware which comes with 2.0 then there is no way to get back.

  • Nokia N79 and MAPS 3.0

    Hi everybody,
I have a question about upload new version of nokia Maps 3.0 on my moblie Nokia N79.
When I download Map Loader version for my moblie, it starts, connects to internet, founds moblie device, than writes unexpected error end ends. I try to reinstall whole mobile from OVI, device is NOT HACKED !, everything is original. What should I do ? Thanks for any idea.

Nokia has changed map data providers to Navteq from Teleatlas for Europe. While this has improved mapping for countries like Ireland, I believe it has made things worse in most Eastern European countries. I expect Navteq will be improving their mapping of Eastern Europe in due course but I can't tell you when, so if you need something to use immediately then it may be best to get something else.

  • Maps 3.0 bad details on map! help

Hi guys, I have some questions, please help.
How possible is that map of Bosnia and Herzegovina on maps 2.0 is better than 3.0 version?
I have downloaded Bosnia map using maploader 3.0
My 2.0 version have more details and also have all streets in Sarajevo, new version only have most important roads without streets...
    any solution?

It is probably down to the map data provider.
In Maps 2.0 Nokia maps used both Navteq and Teleatlas while in Ovi maps (Maps 3.0) they use predominantly Navteq.
At a guess i would say that in 2.0 the map data was Teleatlas while now its Navteq.
Although i work for Nokia, my opinions are my own!

  • Eastern Europe Maps - poor coverage because of dis...

Hi, I live in Bulgaria which has, like most of eastern Europe, pretty limited coverage in Nokia Maps. This makes navigation almost useless here. What is most ridiculous, Plovdiv - the second largest city in Bulgaria is represented on Nokia maps with just a few main streets. There are similar examples for Romania, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia also Turkey and other countries around.
So I checked Nokia support for how to report missing map data. There is a page which explains there are 2 map data providers and provides links to NAVTEQ and TeleAtlas. What is interesting here: TeleAtlas has fairly good coverage in Eastern Europe but it seems like this data is not used by Nokia Maps. Anybody knows what is the reason Nokia not to use TeleAtlas data? Corporate policy?
I learned from other discussions that some time ago Nokia Maps used TeleAtlas and for this reason older Nokia Maps had better coverage especially in Bosnia and Serbia.

No it's not luck as psychomania said, this is solely Nokia's fault. Navteq maps are complete in every part of the world. Only problem here is lazy **bleep** Nokia not updating the maps they make us download from that **bleep** map loader. Navteq is not responsible for this. In Jordan, we still haven't got the new updated maps...
    Just read and **bleep**ing laugh:
"Ovi Maps for mobile is always with you in over 180 countries worldwide. It shows you where you are, what's around you, and gives you the local knowledge to find what you need." This is written on Nokia's maps homepage!

  • Geocoding with TeleAtlas data

    Hi to all.
I have seen that in "Pro Oracle Spatial for Oracle Database 11g" Manual (page 151) is wrote that is possible to do Geocoding and there are examples of function that do this. The examples reported are based on NAVTEQ data; but I have TeleAtlas data and I want to do Geocoding for a region of Italy with these data.
As is mentioned on the manual, I have imported the dump of the NAVTEQ data (of San Francisco and California) on Oracle: gc.dump. I have seen that now I have this tables:
    - GC_AREA_US
    - GC_COUNTRY_PROFILE
    - GC_INTERSECTION_US
    - GC_PARSER_PROFILEAFS
    - GC_PARSER_PROFILES
    - GC_POI_US
    - GC_POSTAL_CODE_US
    - GC_ROAD_SEGMENT_US
    - GC_ROAD_US
Instead, for TeleAtlas I have now these tables:
    - GC
    - INTERSECTION
    - POSTAL CODE
    and other....
    Now I have these questions:
    1) How can I do for doing Geocoding as is mentioned on manual with TeleAtlas tables instead NAVTEQ tables?
    2) What are the relationship between NAVTEQ tables and TeleAtlas tables? Must I convert TeleAtlas tables to NAVTEQ tables or is there another way for solve my problem? (I think that conversion is very complicated)
Thank you to all in advance.

    Hi,
    thank you for your answer.
TeleAtlas has not released Geocoding tables for Oracle Geocoder tables format. They released this tables in Oracle Geocoder tables format only for Canada.
Now I'm looking for to find the relationship between TeleAtlas tables and Oracle Geocoder tables. I know that it is a absurd work, but do you think if is it possible?
    thank you very much.

  • Shortest path with prohibited turn (without Navteq data)

I have a network builded with TeleAtlas data.
The link$ and node$ tables don't consider the turn prohibited.
e.g. at this link of google maps:
    http://maps.google.it/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=45.6165251,+9.247544&daddr=45.6159678,+9.2477555+to:45.6159678,+9.2477555+to:45.6160557,+9.2481154&geocode=FY0NuAIdOBuNAA%3BFWALuAIdDByNAA%3BFWALuAIdDByNAA%3BFbgLuAIdcx2NAA&hl=it&mra=ls&sll=45.616249,9.247651&sspn=0.001017,0.000767&ie=UTF8&ll=45.61621,9.247667&spn=0.001056,0.00284&z=19&layer=c&cbll=45.616297,9.247631&panoid=6f3M-O4JQKPGc6-I24luQw&cbp=12,163.12,,0,0.5
you can't turn to left because it's prohibited (look blue signal to the right before intersection).
Huiling tells me that for USA network:

Yes, navteq provides prohibited turn information. We associate the prohibited turn information with links as link user data, and implement a network constraint to decide whether going to the next link allowed. Now, for TeleAtlas data, I have two tables that contains informations about turn prohibited. I don't understand how can use these information. Must I extract these informations and must I insert them into a field of link$ table? (and after create an user_data on this field?)
By ndm_tutorial, I installed the NAVTEQ_SF_SAMPLE.dmp and by link$ table:

  • Geocoding in Oracle with the 2008 TIGER data

    Hello everyone,
I am new to Oracle Spatial and am wondering if it is possible to use the 2008 TIGER shapefile data with Oracle Spatial's Geocoding package. From the information that I have read so far, it looks like I would have to convert the TIGER data into a specific format (the GC_ tables) in order for it to be Geocoded. So I guess my questions are as follows:
    Is this even possible?
If it is possible, how difficult would it be to convert the data?
Are there any tools/resources out there to help with this?
Is Navteq the only company that supplies data in the proper format to be used by Oracle's geocoding package? I did import their sample data and get a proof of concept working with that pretty easily, but due to the cost of the data, using their data does not appear to be an option for us.
    Thanks in advance,
    John

    Hi,
I am unsure if the tiger data includes the attribution required for the Oracle geocoder to work.
Have you been quoted a price by NAVTEQ? Most customers are surprised by how affordable the geocoding data is.
Please feel free to contact me: daniel dot abugov at navteq dot com
    Thanks and good luck,

  • MapViewer Geocoder URL

I was using Map viewer URL provided by Oracle. We use these following two URL's
    Map viewer URL : http://elocation.oracle.com/mapviewer
    Geocoder URL : http://elocation.oracle.com/geocoder/gcserver
Sometimes Map Viewer URL when tested , the connection says 'Specified URL Connection is not accessible'. Bcoz of this i could not able to display color theme on the map resulted in error saying Map Viewer URL not found.
so later from someones help i understood tat it is for DEMO purpose so i installed OC4J and deployed mapviewer.ear file. i could able to bring up the mapviewer which i deployed.
    i have two doubts here.
    1) Do i need to have any database/schema that has all themes ,styles and other related map data in order to use it for the color theme map in ADF geographic components?
    2) what URL should i need to give for Geocoder URL?

I'm not sure I understood the question. The answer below is based on the following assumptions that what you want do is:
    a) use ADF and ADF DVT components to develop your application.
    b) use a geocoder to convert street address (e.g. 500 oracle pkwy, redwood city, ca 94065) to Longitude, Latitude coordinates in order to display them on a map
    c) also show some color filled areas on a map where the areas, for example, are US States or US Counties.
The question is can you use the two URLs, specified above, for the DVT GeoMap component to do this?
    Short answer: Yes.
The correct theme name which uses state abbreviations to identify a state is map_states_abbrv. (i.e. abbrv instead of abbrev).
I don't why it worked one day and then not the next. Quite possibly what occurred was a data update which removed the temporary theme name that existed.
    A few points of note:
    - If you persist the addresses in some (oracle) database it probably makes sense to store the Long/Lat values too.
    - the geocoder at elocation oracle com only has reference data for USA, Canada, and Western Europe.
Now for the other questions. I'm assuming they are:
    1) what does mvdemo dataset contain? Only US state and county boundaries, location of some cities, and linear extent of some interstate highways. It does not have the reference data required for address geocoding.
    2) what does the Navteq sample dataset contain? See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/spatial/downloads/partners/spatial-partners-data-087203.html
It has detailed street level data, and required reference tables for address geocoding, for San Francisco, CA only.
    3) If I do get reference data for geocoding what will it contain and how will updates be reflected or used?
The reference, from Navteq at elast, contains street segments and valid address ranges and postal code, admin area info for those street segements. The Spatial geocoding algorithms use interpolation to determine the long/lat for a supplied address. If the reference data contains parcel level details (e.g Navteq Point Addresses or CoreLogic's ParcelPoint dataset) then it will simply lookup the address and long/lat. Any committed updates will be used in subsequent geocde queries/lookups.
    4) "I will be using complete postal address to locate in the map,so i believe i dont need to have individual geocoder apps deployed in my system OC4J where as it will be used only when we need to associate spatial locations (longitude and latitude coordinates) with postal addresses.correct me if i am wrong in this ?"
A complete postal address has to be converted to longitude, latitude coordinates in order to display it on a map.
    Hope this helps.

  • Developing Web Services with TeleAtlas + custom data.

A client has some TeleAltas data + own data and would like to develop some Web Services. Initially some WMS and WFS, then Geocoding + Inverse and maybe some routing. I see 2 options:
    1. Try and get the data into the format required by the Oracle OpenLS GeoCoding + Routing Functions.
    2. Design a custom data model and develop all the functions from scratch.
I'm inclined towards the second option.
Any feedback will be gratefully received.

In my experience, the Oracle Spatial Geocoder is very well done, and support for it is excellent.
I do not know how easy/difficult it will be to convert TA data into a format consumable by the Oracle geocoder.
I do know that NAVTEQ (the company I work for) ships data out-of-the-box for the Oracle Geocoder and Router (as well as mapping and analysis).

  • Example Oracle Spatial Queries for NAVTEQ Data

    Hi,
I recently installed NAVTEQ RDF data into an Oracle database. I am new to Oracle Spatial and am looking for some example queries using the NAVTEQ data in the Oracle database.
For example, suppose I have a point (latitude, longitude). What are the queries for each of these:
    1) find roads or faces within 5 miles of that point;
    2) find roads or faces that cover that point
    Thanks!
    Bowden

    Hi,
There are a lot of of ways to license the data (county, state, country), there are different flavors (mapping, geocoding, and routing), and there are different licensing options for the Oracle platform (user based and cpu/core based). I cannot think of a use case that would approach the cost below.
Feel free to drop me an email (daniel dot abugov at navteq dot com) and we can discuss.
