Need access to Java SE 6 for use in CS4 in OS 10.8.5. (PS won't start without it)

Where can I reliably access Java SE 6 for use in CS4 in OS 10.8.5. Right now PS won't open without it ( I get a warning message saying to install Java SE 6 runtime. When I hit install, the result is no fle found.
Adobe has a dead download for related/similar archivel/vestigal plug-ins. Want a clean download to avoid malware.
Will it even work if I get a clean version. It should....I have CS4 running on another iMac with 10.8.5
If it won't work....what are the alternatives. I can't readily or meaningfully deinstall 10.8.5 and go back to 10.6.

I thought I'd give you a response even if I can't answer your question completely. (I think we ought to start a separate thread entitled "How do you get any replies on this forum???") Here is what I have been forced to do. I introduced some JavaScript on the web page that contains the applet I want to be run. The sole purpose of the JavaScript is to detect which platform the client is on. If it's not MacIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the <object><embed> tag used by the Java plug-in. It it is MachIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the regular <applet> tag and let the Mac browsers do as best they can. With mixed and disappointing results. Netscape 6.2 crashes with a lot of applets. IE 5 brings up the applet okay but certain Swing components aren't displaying properly. The MacIntosh I've been testing on is version 9.1. I'm trying OS X tomorrow.
Why don't you send a reply to my query under the Java Plug-in Forum--from aronsz, dated 06/11/02--if you have some more info by now. I sure would appreciate it.

What's hardware or software should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?
1st question: when i try to do editing by using Premiere CS4 AVCHD sequence timeline, the edting monitor seems not smooth (like wearing goggles) & delay, and when i use AME to encode m2ts file (which not yet edit) to AVI file (about 1 hour), it take 2h 13min to finish, is it normal?
2nd question: i use mpeg2 HD 1440 file to do eding, the edting monitor also not very smooth but better than using m2ts file, after editing done, i try to encode these mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited about long 1 hr) to a New file mpeg2 1440 X 1080i HQ or even mpeg2 Pal DV HQ file, the encoding was not runthe encoding after wait for half an hour. How many hours it take usually????
3rd question: i use m2ts file video file to export as a Bitmap, 1 frame 1 picture bitmap, it take long time too, about 1 or 2min to finish encoding, if i export more than 1 picture, it take even more time, i have experienced it, 3 or 4 pictures need about 10 or 15 min to finish encoding. i used to using mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited file) to export frame as picture, it not run the encoding at all. WHY ????

I don't think a core-2 will work very well with AVCHD... you need at least an Intel i7 920... or whatever is current

Need advice on storing configuration variables for use by FP2000 Controller for embedded application.

I am creating 8 machines that generally operate in the same way and each will be controlled using a FP-2000 controller. The only difference between the machines is a set of scaling constants and pass values for determining if the machine completed its process successfully.
In the past, using an idependent PC and Labview, I have created a configuration.vi for writing the constants and configuration variables to a data file on my hard drive. Then in the auto.vi I read(only once each time the program is started) the file and store the data in the program. I would like to do something similar with this system but am not familar with the Field Point system.
I know i
t is probably not difficult to store the data to the host computer and transfer it to the modules but I am better off writing to the modules once and storing the data onboard the FP controller for use by an embedded application. This way, if the network connection is lost for any reason, the machine can still operate. Is this possible, and if not what do you suggest in order to prevent being so reliant on the host computer?

There are a number of ways to accomplish what you desire. The easiest is to continue doing what you are already doing. The FP-20xx series modules treat their flash memory as if it was a hard drive, so the file I/O VI's in LabVIEW work just the same in a FP-20xx as on a regular computer running LabVIEW. The primary variation will be in how you write the files over the network. Since mapping network drives is more of a Windows functionality, you can not simply have a VI running on your host computer use a File I/O VI to write to a FP-20xx. Instead, what you will need to do is to write the file to you local drive and then FTP (file transfer protocol) the VI to the FP-20xx module. This can be done using the LabVIEW Internet toolkit or any 3rd party FTP util
ity. One word of advice; the OS on the FP-20xx does not support long filenames but due to a problem in the FTP server, long filenames (non 8.3 compliant) may be uploaded and once there, you will be unable to access the file again, even to delete it.
An alternative method that I have seen used is to use a global VI and write to it from the host machine through the use of VI server. You can then have the program on-board the FP-20xx save the globals to your configuration file.

I use Audition, Premiere Pro and After Effects (Dynamic Link) to edit concerts filmed on 4 HD Camera's (m2ts x3 and mp4) I also take and mix 6-8 tracks from soundboard and mix in audition. I find my system is struggling to keep up when I have done some color correction and then try to cut in multi-cam mode. My graphics card does not support CUDA and as stated above my system only has a 525w power supply. So a GeForce GTX 470, 570, 580 would not be compatable. I do not GAME but I work with large HD files (4 angles, 1-2 hours each, audio & effects).
My trouble is I don't know which one of the graffics cards that support Mercury play back, would be the best for my needs without having to upgrade my power source (if possable). I'm thinking a mid level card and another 8-12 ram upgrade would be more suited (and cheaper) to my needs, unless I'm going to need a power upgrade anyway. If someone could please let me know what card would help me with my worload of these that would be great! I guess what Im saying is can someone tell me which of these is compatable with my system and is it worth it for the change in performance I will see?

I don't know about your particular configuration but usually Disk Utility not recognizing a drive means the drive/card is history. My G4 running OSX 10.4.11 will format SD cards.
I don't know your model computer. Is this one with a SD slot built in? If it is, do you have an external reader, or can you try another card in this slot to see if it is a slot problem?

I purchased a used iPhone 4 and blew it because the guy I bought it from had factory reset and upgraded the phone to ios7 but he did not disable 'iCloud' and the 'findmyphone' app. Now it won't activate without his old account info.

Sure, “typical” means “many”, so yes. However many others are file based and ONLY require a share folder and thus don't require a server. And then from that shared folder you can often use add-ons to sync that folder to web based systems like GitHub. So
you can "mix" such file only systems and then over time use web based server with that system that does not require a server, but only a shared folder.

Actually, you can just simply “copy” the current version to some folder before you “release” that version. So copy and add a “version” number to the accDB file. If you application is MyInvoice.accDB, then copy to server with MyInvoice-1044.accDB (verison
1044). Since Access is a “single” file, then this works rather well compared to other systems that have “many” files. In fact I copy both the accDB, and the compiled version accDE to a folder on the server (with version number added to the file name as per
above). Thus you can go back to any previous version with great ease.
However, you might be talking about source code control in addition to versioning of software. (often the term is interchanged, but it should not be). Source code control (SCC) is a “common” means to achieve versioning of software, but ALSO allows multiple
developers to work on the project at the same time (collaboration). So there is a big difference between SVN, and SCC.
Access for a VERY long time has supported Microsoft “standard” source code control interface. While Access is a “single” file, Access is able to “logically” view each application part as a separate file. So the fact of “one” file, or “many” files does not
matter – say no more then a zip file is “one” file, but inside there are “many” files! So SCC is 100% possible in Access, and since Access has a resolution down to an object by object basis? Then developers can check-in/out individual forms, query
code modules etc.
Access versions all the way up to 2010 support the “standard” Source Code interface.

The above Git shot is running in "file mode" without a server. Visual Source Safe is also file based, but VERY old and quote hard to find now.
So the great news is that Access has for a very long tie supported SCC, and thus is a great way to “version” your software. And Access will show you OBJECTS that are checked in/out by you as per above with the check mark and lock icon.
So inside of the access GUI you could with any SCC system that supports the standard SCC interface would know what objects are locked and you not taken ownership of. (note the "lock" and "check mark" icon beside each object.
However, Access 2013 dropped support for SCC. So all of the above cool options are NOT available for 2013.
Since Access is a “single” container, then versioning tends to be rather easy. Just copy the file to a folder with a version number appended to the file name, and you are done!
You not distinguished between versioning of your software, and that of source code control – so it not clear if you looking to just keep versions of your software, or allow team development on your application?
While SCC will give you versioning, it also allow multiple developers to work on the same application at the same time (collaboration). SVN does not necessary give you this multiple developer ability.
As noted, versioning for Access is easy - just copy the accDB (front end) to a folder on the server with a version number appended to the file name. Works quite well. I have a table in the front end with a version number, and a version number in the back
end table. My deployment code reads that version number and copies the files to the server for me.
(It is assumed that you have a split database).
However, if for 2013 you need both versioning and SCC (say to allow multiple developers), then you likely have to roll your own. I would suggest using “save-as text” command to export all access objects to a folder, and THEN use one of MANY source code control
systems that operate on that folder. Such a setup could easily be cobbled together in an afternoon of your time. And “many” SCC systems provide a GUI that is external to the developer tools/environment. This would allow you to use free tools like Git and GitHub.
For just versioning of your software? Then SCC is likely overkill, and if you using Access 2013, then you cannot use standard SCC providers anymore anyway.

Do I need to set AI colour profiles for use in ID?

My previous set up:
Mac
CS2 (Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge)
Quark XPress 7
My new set up:
PC (Win 7)
CS5 (Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign)
My problem:
I work for a company that prints newspapers, but my dept also does work for glossy sheetfed printers (magazines leaflets etc)
All my work is exclusively CMYK.
With my previous set up - I didn’t want to have to switch my colour profiles via Bridge as I was constantly juggling two types of jobs:
Our tabloid press - Profile - ISOnewspaper26v4 (CMYK)
Sheetfed Printers - Profile - ISO Coated V2 (Fogra 39) (CMYK)
So I set my CS2 Suite colour settings to ISO Coated V2 (Fogra 39) and set an action in Photoshop to convert jpegs / eps photos to ISOnewspaper26v4.
So my CS2 working space was set for Sheetfed glossy publications and if I wanted to set a picture to the correct profile for newsprint I just had to open the picture and hit the action that applied the ISOnewspaper26v4 profile.
Regarding Quark – I set up separate templates for each type of job:
One for Profile - ISO Coated V2 (Fogra 39) and one for - Profile - ISOnewspaper26v4.
Regarding Illustrator - I found that Quark 7 didn’t differentiate between Illustrator colour profiles, or if it did, it didn’t show up in ‘Usage’.
If I went to Quark Usage and went to ‘Profiles’ it only listed the Quark profile and any Photoshop profiles, not any Illustrator profiles.
So in Illustrator I just set colour profiles to ‘do not colour manage this document’. So that I only had to worry about changing profiles for Photoshop jpegs / eps’s.
So I had a good little system going that served me well and now my company decided to move us to PC’s and CS5; and I still have the same problem – juggling newsprint jobs and glossy magazine jobs and not wanting to have to synchronise my CS suite colour settings every time I switch between jobs...
So I was hoping to stick with my little system on PC / CS5.
So basically my question is, do I need to worry about Illustrator colour profiles if I am bringing Illustrator files into InDesign? (To clarify, my Illustrator files are always pure vector, so there is no chance of some rogue RGB jpeg sneaking through on a Illustrator file)
Im open to suggestions regarding my set up, but really would prefer not to have to keep switching my colour profiles.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, I wasn't suggesting that your PDFs be exported to RGB, but it is a common workflow these days to keep photos in RGB until you convert them to the correct profile during the export process. This maximizes the potential for re-purposing your documents and allows you to use the same RGB photos for different output purposes without having to do separate CMYK conversions for each destination, so long as you don't need to do any tweaking after the conversion.
And to answer your question, if the .ai files have no embedded color profile they will ALWAYS be considered to use whatever the CMYK working space is in your ID file, so the numbers will be preserved. This means that there will be slight differences in color on output on different devices (the whole point of color management, after all, is to preserve the appearance of colors by altering the numbers for the output device).
Does the vector work you get from Thinstock come with an embedded profile? Is there any color that is critical for matching, such as a corporate color (which should be spot, but that's a different discussion), or do you use the same art in both the newspaper and magazine, and does the client expect a match (which we know isn't going to happen anyway)?
If there's no embedded profile when you start, there's no way to know what the color was supposed to look like, so color management is not possible, really. You can assign a profile, but you'd be guessing. Since the correct appearance at that point is unknown continuing with out color management shouldn't present a problem. The only case where you would need to manage the vector art would be if the color APPEARANCE is critical or you need it to match across different outputs, and in that case you would need to assign a profile and allow ID to preserve the profile on import and remap the numbers, which means you would likely get rich blacks someplace. Since it's unlikely that you can get a good match going from glossy to newsprint, I probably wouldn't even try -- you wouldn't want, for example, to tag the art as newsprint, and have it print subdued on the gloss if it would look better or more correct with the other profile. Color management would be much more useful if you were going from sheetfed to web on the same stock.

Need advice on choosing laser printer for use w/Illustrator

I know there are a few other threads out there on printers but I'm hoping to get answers specific to my situation. I need a laser printer that isn't astronomically priced and as big as a warehouse. Basically we send all our stuff to outside printers, but need a good printer for proofing our work. Currently using an HP 4200n supplied to us (4 artists) by our company. We'd like to get a printer just for the artists, which will give us better quality than this one which seems a basic office printer.
We're also printing on basic office paper - what type paper would you recommend for graphics to look clean and sharp?
Criteria are:
1 - higher resolution - up to 1200dpi
2 - color preferred but not necessary
3 - wysiwyg so it will match what we're doing on screen (95% of our work is grayscale graphics)
4 - not so costly the company will refuse to purchase for us (initial cost and supplies)

To Jacob's advice, I would add...
1. If you have the choice between genuine Adobe PostScript and a third-party emulation, go for the former. Unfortunately, this will cost you more money.
2. Unless you are dealing only with small-sized printed pieces -- that is to say, smaller than letter-size -- you really need to consider a large-format (e.g., tabloid size) laser. If your laser maxes out at letter-size (or legal-size) and your printed piece trims to letter-size, you'll need to reduce output to print out things like spreads, bleeds, printer's marks, etc. And if you can't proof at 100 percent (i.e., actual size), that's a huge disadvantage. Yes, you could print things out in sections and tape them together, but that will get old fast. Unfortunately, a tabloid-size PostScript laser will really set you back some bucks... not to mention some serious desktop real estate.
If you are budget-constrained, you should probably not rule out inkjet options.

Accessing Webdynpro Java iview functionality for print from webdynpro code

I know.. you would love to post me with n different blogs and forums discussion about how to print from webdynpro java application.
But lets read before what i am looking for..
There is standard "Print" function available on webdynpro for java iview.. and layout and all its just fine for us. though we want to trigger this event from a screen button. as going to iview properties is very user friendly.
I was looking for some iview api which can help me.. We are on NW 7.01 SP6 at the moment. And this is for standard ESS applications.

You can write Java program for printing. Call the java class from screen (button or Url). Also you can write the content to XMl file.open the xml file in action. so that u will get print preview and print option.
