Need General Information about VDS

Hi,
In our evaluation for different VDS, I require the following information.
1.Can we use hyphens in schema names?
2.Is it possible to map the VDS to any arbitrary position in the LDAP tree?
3.Will the VDS reflect the updates done by an LDAP client in the DB by itself.
4.Will the VDS recognize updates made in the database (perhaps via some sort of vendor plugin)
5.Which LDAP versions are supported?
6.What data types are supported by the VDS(int, string, binary)?
7.Are there any statistics to measure the performance of the VDS? Typically how long will it take to do a Read, Write and Search ?
Please provide these details ASAP.

In all answers, I'm replacing VDS with DPS (directory proxy server). If this is not right, let us know.
Can we use hyphens in schema names?Schema names? Do you mean attributes and objectclass names? Then yes. Moreover, there is not schema in the DPS itself, only in directory server.
Is it possible to map the VDS to any arbitrary position in the LDAP tree?Yes.
Will the VDS reflect the updates done by an LDAP client in the DB by itself.What do you mean? DPS only relays changes to and from the backend. Any change will be reflected as long it goes to the same backend. This can be configured using client affinity.
Will the VDS recognize updates made in the database (perhaps via some sort of vendor plugin)DPS does a search and provides whatever data is available. Access to the data in the backend or directory server is a totally different issue
Which LDAP versions are supported?LDAP v2 and v3
What data types are supported by the VDS(int, string, binary)?yes, these are all supported. If you have anything specific in mind, please spell it out.
Are there any statistics to measure the performance of the VDS? Typically how long will it take to do a Read, Write and Search ?This is extremely subjective based on hardware and your data access patterns. You could engage Sun Professional Services to study and tune your DPS installation

customer exits. Using transaction SMOD you can see which customer exits SAP provides. Using transaction CMODyou can see the enhancement projects which make use of these SAP enhancements.
SAP enhancements consist of different components: function modules, screens, etc.

BAdIs (Business AddIns). Inbetween SAP has developed BTEs(transaction FIBF) which are basically dynamically called function modules.

1. what is Local Cleansing Packages?

I tried using "EnglishNorthAmericaDataCleanse" transform with NAME_OR_FIRM_LINE1. When I ran the job I got below warning message and my job was success full nut status it shown as failed.
Warning message:
"Trasform Data Cleanse is unable to retrieve cleansing packages from Cleansing Package Builder. Only local cleansing packages are available. Info: Unable to log on: Could not connect to server d184932040.sng1.attens.net:6400. Please check that the server name is correct, and that the server is running. "
Please make me understand, why did I get above message.

Cleansing package is a reference file that contains content and rules around person, firm, title, phone data and so on. Cleansing package used to be referred to as dictionaries. Directories are usually referred to address reference data or address directories. The input, output and option tabs are similar to other Data Quality transforms. For detail information on what each of the input fields and output fields are and how the options work can be found in the Data Services’ Designer Guide (http://help.sap.com/bods).
The warning message you are getting is stating that Data Services is not able to connect to the server to check to see if you have made modifications to the PERSON_FIRM cleansing package. You are not required to make any changes to the PERSON_FIRM cleansing package, but can change rules or content based on your organizational rules. If you want to make changes you will need to install SAP Information Steward. If you would like to install SAP Information Steward you can find documentation for installation on the Help Portal, http://help.sap.com/bods, along with some great Videos.
You can also find some great Data Services Product Tutorials on the SAP Community Network, at http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-54115.

In short will the version upgrades disable the features of the old Version even though the old version is present in the desktop?

That's correct. _After_ you got your C/C
++ test program (and USB
driver) above working, then you can convert this little test program

Manual should guide you. Remember, this is a task for an _experienced_

SOME THOUGHTS:

work and simply buy one of these?

I'm doing some research about our next direction.
The way I understand it is that iMT will transform my ND apps into
J2EE apps using the JATO architecture. Where can I find more
information about JATO? I can't seem to find much on the iPlanet
site, or in general. Is it on a level with Struts? Does it only work
with iPlanet? I've contacted my iPlanet/Sun/NetDynamics rep about
starting this process, so maybe I will get more information then. It
just seems odd not to find it generally discussed. If I go with JATO,
am I just locking my self into another proprietary api (ala
NetDynamics)? Any general tips NetDynamics veterans can offer?

We've done everything possible to make JATO complementary to J2EE, and we
don't hide the underlying J2EE API from you. Instead, JATO applies
well-known, state-of-the-art, application-level design patterns to baseline

that enterprise architects and developers find this far more of a benefit
than a hinderance. Furthermore, you get the source for JATO. (I've lobbied
long and hard to make JATO open source, but you can imagine how that fares
inside a huge company like iPlanet...)

presentations, then let us know if you have additional questions. We'll be

Hi,
While you can collect/refresh the DB statistics thru the Performance tab or a Process Chain step, it's probably better to have the DBA schedule the run of BRCONNECT to collect statistics. This provides two key benefits, the statistics collection can be moved to off hours rather than during a load window, which is usually tight in most shops, and the other benefit is that it can collect statistics only on tables that have had significant changes in size. There is really no need to collect stats every day on every table - that is just wasted system effort.
There have been several OS Notes to provide some settings in the recent couple of support packages to control options on statistics collection on ODSs that you might want to review too.

No thats not the Problem.
The Customer use a SAP Portal on Sun OS without a SAP Gateway.
Enterprise Portal Server --> VSCAN Destination to --> over TCP /IP --> another Server (Windows 2003) with AntiVir VSA und vscan_rfc + SAP Gateway
Now the Customer use the installation from SAP "setupvscanrfc_78-10003831.exe"
Content for this Installation is: SAP Gateway + vscan_rfc
The Problem is that the VSI Interface shows a errormessage by scanning file bigger as 100kb:
If Files bigger as 100 kb the Destination must copy the File to the Virus Scan Apdater, but thats not working.
com.sap.security.core.server.vsi.api.exception.VSIServiceException: The virus scan server VSCAN_FE0BOS192 is not running on localhost!
VSCAN_FE0BOS192 is the Destination on Portal-Site...
Need this Installation also a SAP Gateway on the Portal Site or whats the Problem?

Need maximum information about Content Management in Weblogic Portal 10.3

I have worked with Weblogic Portal before, but it's been some time, I do not remember much and I quickly need to find some info.
We are making a proposal to a customer and have suggested Weblogic Portal.
I would like to give as much information about the technicalities of the CMS in Weblogic Portal as possible.
Could you please answer these questions ?
I am looking for information on the CMS that is integrated in Weblogic Portal 10.3

How can i manage the documentation in the CMS ? I have several source of data (databases, Lotus repositories ...) : can i load them into the WLP Virtual Content Repository ?
What about images ? Do i need to work on a special format to handle them in my portlets ?
Is it possible to load data coming from XML files into the repository so i can display them on the portal ?

As far as portlets go, WLP provides lots of facilities for creating your own portlets, to do exactly what you want them to do. It really depends upon what you want to do.
If you're looking to display images, also take a look at the personalization features like Content Selectors and Placeholders, which can retrieve an image from the CM system.
If you're looking to iterate over a set of content, take a look at display templates as a means to control the presentation.
You may be able to use re-portlets from the WLP Admin tools, though I'm not familiar with the details.
