Need Guidance on Oracle SCM functional learning paths

Hi,
I've just started understanding Oracle EBS SCM functionalities & used to the EBS system in terms of usage. Need help and learning paths on SCM modules to start off. Any information regarding knowledge base would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
Regards,
MK

Will you have access to both arrays at the same time? In that case, this could be your plan:
- move ocr and voting disk to new volumes according to metalink note 428681.1
you can replace the ocr with the system up and running but you'll have to shut down the clusterware for moving the voting disk
- migrate asm (online)
create the new volumes on the new array, then perform an 'alter diskgroup DGNAME add disk '/dev/dsk/newdevice'', wait until the rebalancing is done, then do 'alter diskgroup DGNAME drop disk /dev/dsk/olddisc''. Do this with both diskgroups, wait until the rebalancing is over and unplug the old array
Bjoern
edit: in 11g you can even move the voting disk online, you only have to shut down the clusterware on 10g rac

Can anyone tell me which institutes give the best training for Oracle supply chain mgmt .Thanks in advance

For that sort of thing I suspect you want the partner network, not the technology network.

  • Oracle Apps Functional Guidance

    Hi Guru's,
Currently i am working as a Oracle Apps Technical Consultant from past 4 years.
Now i am planning to move SCM Functional side ( SCM Functional Consultant ). Is it right decision.? Please suggest me....

Hard to answer the question. It depends on your experience level, aptitude and your personal likings.
But typically that is the path taken by most techno-functional consultants.
It is important to make sure you work with the business and understand various business processes. That will make you platform independent.
If you are really interested in functional work in Supply chain area, you can look into getting CSCP or CPIM certifications. They are a bit pricey and may not offer a great value for money. However, some folks find them very useful.
    Hope this helps

  • Oracle Techno Functional module career path suggestions

    Hi,
My educational background is BE(Computers) and MBA (Banking and insurance). At present I am working as QA lead and have 5 years of work experience in QA. But I want to switch my career path from QA to Oracle techno functional consultant with oracle finance module. Can anybody please suggest what will be my future prospects or career path for this. I wanted to sign up for a oracle techno functional training but before this wanted to get some expert advise if this will be beneficial. Any help in this matter will be deeply appreciated.

I was an accoutant by trade 1991-1999 and started learning DB concepts and reporting in general. I was able to get a job writing crystal reports for Solomon accounting package. That led to support for the accounting package. That was in 2000.
Our company purchased the Oracle ERP suite in 2003, so i was able to go to train and be here for implementation and go live. I was lucky in that i was able to get training. You have a good business background, which is very important for functional analysts. The tough part is too get a foot in the door in a company that uses Oracle.

  • Improvements in Oracle SCM Check Out and Check In mechanism (better Oracle

Oracle SCM - the Software Configuration Manager – provides the backend source code control services for Oracle Designer. It offers among other things functionality for Version Control: Check In, Check Out, Branching and Merging and it records Check In/Out notes, Version Labels and ‘version events’. In comparison with several other tools for version control, it has a few oddities or lacks some functionality that might have been very handy. It turns out that most of that functionality can be created fairly easy, with additional triggers on the Oracle SCM tables. I have demonstrated in a previous post how two of these additional pieces of functionality can be implemented: Building Check In protection into Oracle Designer/Oracle SCM - Check In only by the user that did the Check Out (http://technology.amis.nl/blog/index.php?p=784). I intend to write further articles to demonstrate implementations of all others enhancements listed in this post: http://technology.amis.nl/blog/index.php?p=799.
Please let me know - through comments on that Blog article - if you are interested in any of the mentioned enhancements.
    best regards,
    Lucas

The first query points to many threads where a similar question has been asked. You can change the query search words to get more hits.
If you are looking specifically for OM, it will also help if you network with some non-IT guys to understand how, in general, Order Management is used in various industries. You can talk to Order Entry clerks to understand order taking process (such as customer calls, they create a quote, customer approves, quote is turned into order), you can talk to Warehouse personnel to understand order shipping process (Such as order ship date nears, they run a report to find which orders need to ship in the next x days, they generate pick tickets to get material, they generate packing slips, generate invoices, shipping notices etc.)
Talk to some AR folks to understand credit processes and invoice /collection processes.
These folks don't have to use Oracle. What you are looking for a generic understanding of how the business /processes work.

  • Oracle Apps Functional in Finance Career

    Hi all
I would be thankful to you if anyone can guide me in pursuing a career in Oracle applications functional in finance. For your information here is my career background - I did BSc(Computer Science), MBA & MSc and presently I am working as an Accounts Assistant in a comapny based in Scotland.
I am going on holidays to Hyderabad, India. I need to know what will be the best way to learn the above course, in an institute or under a personal instructor. Please suggest
All your suggestions will be kindly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Imran,
Personally, I would recommend Oracle University training over any other personal training. Oracle provides a “100% Student Satisfaction” which means if you are not satisfied with your learning experience you can request a free retake of the same class title within 90 days & within 50 miles of their original class.

I believe the best way to learn is to have your own vision demo instance and start reading Oracle documentation. In addition, Oracle blogs and Metalink are also good source of information. I must also admit that I have learned a lot through this forum, so you can go through old threads and read about others experiences. You can also post your question and will definitely get an answer.

For the number of days, there is no specific answer as it depends on what (and how many) modules you want to learn. The duration of Oracle courses varies between 2-5 days for each module. I suggest you go through Oracle education website for more details.

  • Oracle apps functional career

    Hello all,
I am preparing myself for a career as a Oracle apps functional consultant in supply chain domain. Based on your experience what is the best way/process to get ready for this? Do I need to get trained in some institute or else buy some books and practice religiously? please suggest.
Main objective: To feel comfortable and confident from the day I start working in this whole new world of Oracl apps.
please provide your inputs. No prizes for guessing the value of your suggestions.
    Thanx a ton
    - Anand

    Hi
    New Oracle novice
The better way to learn Oracle application (any module) is if you have a Domain Knowledge or experience and the company where u r seeking this domain experience should have implemented the ERP suit then that is the real kind of experience that how its works for your environment. Environment could be Manufacturing(Descrete/Process), Financials, Human Resource, or Distribution wherein the product Oracle application is mapped.
Basically Oracle application is suited for any kind of industry in the World and can be mapped upto 85% and the remaining 15% of mapping can be done by means of Customization or any workarounds.
To become more elobarative and professional you need to go thru the documents/pdfs and metalink information....etc., so that any industry that you can understand can Map the same into Oracle apps.
Hope this little bit clear to you.
    Thanks

  • SAP BW - learning path and Estimated time line.

    Hi,
I am working with Business Objects for few years. I am interested in learn SAP BW and start my career in SAP BW with Business Objects. I would appreciate if you could please let me know the learning path and approximate time line.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike:
    I see your concern.
BO is primarily a front end tool and it is simple to learn. So new developers can pick it up easily and start delivering business needs quickly.
In fact I believe front end tools these days are so user friendly that even Business Users can learn fast and adapt and get really good at it.
I think learning and understanding the back end data warehousing tools with specialized skills in Data Modeling and ETL will be extra added value to employers in today's market. Plus Interpersonal skills and interfacing with business users is not a function that can be easily outsourced.
If you already have expertise in Bus Intelligence, I would recommend staying in BI and learning the back end tools. Learning Other SAP modules should supplement your BI skills and not to replace your BI focus.
BI as an Industry is still evolving and growing. Plenty of room to grow. BI can deliver business critical decision support.
Knowledge of Business Intelligence functions (Functional knowledge) will come in especially handy for employers when designing back end (data modeling) and suggesting the right course of action for designing back end. Your existing front end knowledge will be a great help for data modeling recommendations.
I am actually pursuing a second MS in ERP at http://dce.mst.edu/. I take classes on line since i live 100 miles from the university. I sometimes am busy at work and cannot attend live classes. So i listen to the recordings after work hours and do my assignments and tests and exams after hours as well.
The best thing about being in school, is i switch to learning mode and set aside my past experience and become a student willing to learn from the professor and the other students.

I personally see a need in the Industry for highly engineered BI Solutions. Quiet a few SAP Clients today have experienced not so well engineered BI solutions from less skilled BI resources leading to poor performance and poor user adoption.
Thats why i feel there is a great need for qualified BI resources to deliver optimal BI solutions and drive greater user adoption. The more users adopting SAP BI and BOBJ, the better opportunities for all of us.
Concerning your comment about ABAP - I know minimal ABAP learned on the job as a BW developer / analyst. I tend to find solutions through data modeling as opposed to using ABAP. SAP BW has standardized many many common reporting functions and on occasions i write some ABAP lookups. But during the initial stages of my career as a BW Analyst i used to have the ABAP team write any code i needed.
I even developed an ABAP report in ECC by providing the ABAP team with a detailed flow diagram of the logic. But lately i have learned to write some ABAP code myself.
    Good Luck.
    MP.
