Need help changing the default download location in Firefox3.6.16

I have been having default download location problem for over a year now and no one has been able to offer a solution so if you can figure this out, well, I can't say enough good about you.
Here's my problem. I'm an online math instructor for a college. I use Firefox 3.6.16, and have also tried the latest version. Os is Vista. Students email me Microsoft Word 2007 documents every day as attachments to email. I click on the documents, make corrections and when I go to save their document to my computer, the default always wants to save it in a temp file! I read where Firefox is supposed to default save in the desktop (which is where I want it to default to, but that never happens). When the save defaults to the temp file, I have to scroll up numerous files and find the desktop option and click it to save it on the desktop. This is not a huge deal until you have to do it for 90 students and then it becomes time consuming.
Numerous times I have followed the standard process of (TOOLS>OPTIONS>SAVE FILES TO DESKTOP) within Firefox but that never works. I've reinstalled Firefox, that doesn't work. I've also tried to change the "Save Options" settings within Word 2007 and that hasn't solved the problem either. Please advise if you have a solution. Thanks in advance!

Need help changing the default Save Path

Hello,
We are implementing SAP, and will be using Citrix as the source for the GUI. One of our requirnments are, that we need to change the default "Save Path" that users save documents too. By default, this is to the C drive, but, we need it set to a different drive (i.e. V: on the citrix server).
We found this note on SDN (see below) - however, it does not explain how to change or add this registry value? Is this done in the GUI options, or in regedit? If in reg-edit, where abouts in the tree does it go?

(As of SAP GUI 7.20, patch level 4) the REG_EXPAND_SZ registry value InitSaveDir can be used to configure the default path and folder for users to save the reported information in case of an access denial due to security rules. If users change the default path and save the information to an individual location, this new path will be kept as long as the user does not terminate the program. When starting SAP GUI again, users will get the configured default path again to store the reported information, the individual path changes will be lost. If the registry value does not exist, the default directory is the document directory of the SAP GUI.
By default none of the above registry values exists. In order to change the behavior of the security module, the registry values need to be created and set to the desired value. A not existing registry value means use the default.

Need help changing the default load page in Flash

Welcome,
I recently purchased a flash template. The one problem I am having is that the default page that starts up when you play the movie is not the page I want it to start on. It is starting on the gallery section of the menu item which is the 3rd tab and I wanted to start on the very first tab/menu item which is,About Us section. What steps would I take to change the default homepage so it opens on About Us instead of Gallery.
Here is an example. This is not my site but it's to illustrate what I am talking about. www.thunderfuel.com. It's like my webpage is starting up on the Web Design Tab, instead of the Games Tab which I want it to.

That's why the gallery shows up first then, its first in the timeline. There are a number ways you can change this. 1. You might select the section in the timeline that you want to show first and move it to the beginning of the timeline. 2. You could add a simple gotoAndPlay() directive at the start of the movie to tell the playback head to move immediately to the section that you want to show first.

How can I change the default download location in Firefox 4

Downloads go immediately to the Download folder. I want to change to a different location. Cannot find the right place to change this in Firefox 4.

SBS 2011 GPO for changing the default save location for Word/Excel 2013 not working

So this is a strange one. I've got an SBS 2011 server that's the only domain controller in the org. I've created a GPO to change the default save location for Excel 2013 and Word 2013 using the Office 2013 ADMX files which were installed to the PolicyDefinitions
folder.
The GPO (U-Office2013 Default Save Location) only contains:
1. User Configuration - Microsoft Excel 2013/Excel Options/Save - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
2. User Configuration - Microsoft Word 2013/Word Options/Advanced/File Locations - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
The GPO is linked at the OU that contains my users for my SBS organization.
When I do a gpupdate /force on a windows 7 system with office2013 installed, and then run a gpresult/rsop, the policy appears to be applied successfully as it lists my GPO under the Applied GPOs list on the workstation:
Applied GPOs
Default Domain Policy dyndns.local AD (24), Sysvol (24)
U-Office2013 Default Save Location domain.local/SBSusers AD (6), Sysvol (6)
In the gpresult report, the applied settings appear under:
Administrative Templates

BUT, when I go to the workstation, and check office->options-Save-default file path, the path has not been changed to what the GPO is pushing.
The strange thing is that in my test environment running 2008R2 server and Win7 with Office 2013 and identical settings the default save location is applied and works as expected.
Any ideas?
I've already tried re-installing the ADMX templates and re-created the GPO's several times.
I should also note that other GPO's on the SBS2011 server such as the folder redirection GPO work as expected on the same windows 7 system. It just appears to be an issue with the default save location in office2013 and other Office 2013 related GPOs which
utilize the recently added ADMX template that don't seem to be working for me.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried several different user accounts (all have local admin privileges to the workstation) with the same issue. The default save path does not get applied from the GPO to any of the users i've tried. Here's the steps I took
per your suggestion:
1. log on as a user who has never logged onto the workstation before.
2. run gpupdate /force (entered y for yes when prompted to log off).
3. Log back in as the user and open Office and check the default save path. It has not been changed to match the GPO setting.
4. Check rsop to see if the policy was applied. Rsop states the gpo was applied successfully.
I have attached the gpsvc.log file from a the session described above. The GPO Guid in question is: {DC3C93EC-7C28-48E9-BA38-FCA1E275A207}. Its common name is: U-Word 2013 Default Save Location. It's only setting is:

Want to change the default save location- users have networked home dirs

I am doing some work for a school which is still using iMovie HD because it allows them to save their movie projects wherever they want. The issue is that iMovie 08 and 09 do not allow you to change the location in which they save their movies. Currently all users/students have network home folders, so their home directory, documents, etc all pull across the network. All students are limited to 1GB of space, and the system is an older G4 Server- 2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 2x 500GB hard drives. Since the students can make some large projects transferring that data back and forth can kill the server. Currently they are staying with iMovie HD so they can save it to the local hard drive, and when the student comes back in for class they sit at the same machine- thus giving them access to their stored movie files.
This summer they plan to upgrade both Xserves, but again internal storage in the Xserve is a joke and in my opinion not planned out properly. Which might require them to use one of the Apple Promise RAID units- major financial burden on a school.
I wanted to see if there was a way to change the default save location for iMovie 08 or 09 to the local storage rather then the "Home" folder for each user.

iM08/09 has a different file concept than iMHD6.
Both versions allow to store Events (=huge files) 'anywhere' to usb or firewire connected, hfs(+) formatted harddrives. the Project files (=small files) can be de-located from 'internal' drive with vers09, for 08 you have to use a socalled symLink to de-locate Project files.

Changing the default download settings in the excel.

Hi All,
Is there any methodology to change the default settings of the download of a report to a excel file. Because when I try to download reports having pivoted chart view it tends to hide the titles. I have added the padding but no luck. It is taking the default settings.
Is there any xml file where we change those properties?

To solve my problem I am going to use that method (Create a new file @ startup, see if it exists, and if it does not exist then it is the first time running) and tweak it a little to solve my exact problem.
I need to be sure that the application is being run after installation (from the installer), because the user MAY select "do not run after install", in which case the first time they try to run the program by opening an associated file, the program will exit, which is not a good first impression to leave on the user.
So I will check if the file exists created and if then i will check if arguments (file name) is being passed.
1. If a file name argument is passed I'll create the file and continue running to program. - First time run, but not from installer.
2. If no argument is present and it is the first time, I will shut down immediately with no message. - First time running/run from installer.
3. If no argument is present and file exists, exit with error (file needed). - Not the first time run, but no argument passed.
4. If argument exists and and file exists, run program. - Normal execution.

Power view in SharePoint - Changing the default save location?

Is it possible to change the default location when saving Power view back into SharePoint?
Our users are creating their own power view reports by clicking a power view shared data source in SharePoint document library.
When saving their reports, the default location is always the same location where the data source is. This is described here also:

It's fine to keep projects there in order to back them up or as a transfer pivot location to allow others to edit, but you never want to open Captivate, click File > Open and browse to a network location to open a project for editing.
Best practice at this point is to keep projects on your local C drive when you make edits.

Office 2013 - Is there a way to when installing that you can change the default save location without having to configure it within the client?

So, What I am trying to do is deploy Office 2013 throughout our company, and I do not want the users to save their business or personal files created within Office 2013 on the C: drive or Sky Drive. We have what is called the U: drive and I'd like to know
if there's a quick registry tweak that I can use to not only change the default location upon setting up a computer, but to deploy through Group Policy?
One other question perhaps; Is there a way to change not only the file location to default to only the one place, but also is there a way to also set a specific size limit to folders and prevent certain files from being saved (videos and personal pictures).
I have our network pretty tight as to what or who can go where, and what not, I am just really for an answer or some help to the default location...anything you have GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Changing the Default Save location in Cap4

I know its possible to change the publish folder (Edit > Preferences) but what about the default Save location? Any clue how to change that from My Documents?

One of the hard learned issues that folks are unaware of until they encounter problems is that Captivate does not do well when a project is stored on a network. It's fine to keep projects there in order to back them up or as a transfer pivot location to allow others to edit, but you never want to open Captivate, click File > Open and browse to a network location to open a project for editing.
Best practice at this point is to keep projects on your local C drive when you make edits.

The 2 year old fix for changing temp files is no longer valid, I need to change the temp file location in the latest firefox.

In 3.6.3 I'm unable to find the parent cache to change where the temp files are located. I have an SSD drive, and I need to get the temp file off, and onto my platter drive. I have read the previous fix of about:config and changing the parent cache location, but it no longer seems to be there. I'm unable to locate anything relating to my SSD drive location in about:config.

Unfortunately, it appears that what I wrote about not being able to find the location IN about:config of the cache to change it from my C: drive to a different location, was mildly misunderstood that I didn't know how to get into about:config.
The location of browser.cache.disk.parent_directory does not currently exist in 3.6.3. I'm assuming it's under a different location. Also using the simple string of "cache" lists several options, but none of them appear to be where firefox is currently dumping the temp files onto my C:
I merely need to know how to switch the temp file location from 1 drive, to another. Not downloads, the temp file.

Changing the default to location of Archiver data

Is there any way that we can change the default location of the Archiver data. By default is goes to archives folder, i want it to goto some other folder.
Similarly when u take up the backup of site. i want it also to be stored in some other folder.
is it possible.???

Not sure what you mean by a back up. There is no built in Disaster recovery tool for UCM. Standard system back ups (file system and DB) for restore should be used.

Changing the default /Users location

Hey guys,
does anyone know a smart way to change the DEFAULT location of /Users in SL?
I wan't to create a system image with /Users on a second partition,
and i'm not talking about just ctrl-clicking an existing user and editing
the account prefs
Worked fine in 10.4 with NetInfo and in 10.5 with fstab/vifs.
10.6 anyway always creates an alias to /Users,
which i don't want because it makes our software-distribution go nuts.
Any ideas?

I edited /etc/fstab using vifs and added:
/dev/disk0s3 /users hfs rw 1 2
This is exactly what i did in 10.5 as well.
SL mounts /users to the other partition just fine,
but additionally it creates a link to /users on the system partition as well.
I.e., on the system partition i have Applications, Library, System and so on
AND a link to /user. That didn't happen in 10.5
On the second partition i have all the users folder, just how i wanted it.
I'm just curious why SL automatically creates that link
when i change the mountpoint of /users.

On a computer's iTunes you should be able to edit the payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option (if you are not logged into the account that your daughter is using then Store > Sign menu option to log out of the currently logged in account ; that will then change to a Store > Sign In option so that you can log into her account) and log into the account (enter the account's password and click View Account on the popup)
And on the account's details page there should be a payment link.
If you are doing it on your iPad then tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store (if not logged into her account then log out of your account via the popup that you get and then log in with her account) and tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into the account - that should also give you a payments link on your account's page.
