Need help hooking up Maxent 42" Plasma to mac mini

i have a newly acquired maxent 42" plasma product number mx42xm11 i called their rep and he said it wouldnt work but i have read a couple forums where people have gotten other maxent monitors to work i was wondering if someone could help me set this one up.

I searched and found this:
Input/Output connections
2 x Composite video input (RCA phono), 1 x DVI-HDCP (24 pin digital DVI), 2 x S-Video input (4 pin mini-DIN), 2 x HD component input (RCA phono x 3), 1 x VGA input (15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15)), 6 x Audio line-in (RCA phono x 2), 1 x Subwoofer output (RCA phono), 1 x Audio line-out (RCA phono x 2), 1 x VGA output (15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15)), 1 x Serial (9 pin D-Sub)
It looks as simple as connecting a standard VGA cable from the Mini to the VGA port. It also listed the resolution as 1024x768, which is a standard 4:3 resolution.
You could also try a DVI cable as long as your DVI input looked similar to tha back of your Mini.
Where would you need help?

Not necesarily. I've done it a few times.

    Yes. You can.
I've learned something. New. This must be recently changed. That last time I clicked on a Link I though was a dmg file and turned out it was and exe file my Macs wouldn't allow me to do so. But haven't tried recently everytime and exe file comes up I cancel. I gues I am used to the time everytime a Virus or some other nasty was downloaded it was packaged in and exe file and Macs owuldn't allow it. I suppose with the INtel guts now they can no longer refuse to download.

I need help locating where and how to update Mac OS-X to Mountain Lion.....Thanx....Jay

First update your 10.6 version to 10.6.8 from the software update under the Apple Menu.
This will add direct access to the Mac App store via a new application.
Now launch the App Store from your Applications folder - Its the new icon a letter A formed from a ruler pencil and pen on a blue circle !
Once launched you need to add your iTunes account details or create an account add payment details etc...
Sign in purchase download and follow install processes to upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion.
OH and to be safe BEFORE you install backup your current system to an external drive !

It depends on what you mean by "verifying the details".  sberman gave you the best place to look to research the technical specifications of the device you are thinking of purchasing. If, however, you're asking how to check if the device is Activation Locked, then you can check the status here: https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/

  • I need help fixing itunes crashes on my old mac

i need help fixing itunes crashes on my old mac

    Thanks for your reply,
I have both the silver discs specific to my iMac and Mac Pro models that you receive with your Mac, and a general copy of Snow Leopard that you buy from the store.
I used the silver disc that is specific for my iMac to install the drivers, and Boot Camp 3.0 on my iMac. But with the Mac Pro, the software is older and only has Boot Camp 2.0, thus I'm wondering if I can simply use the software on the general copy of Snow Leopard I own, or does the silver disc contain specific drivers for my Mac Pro that I need?
I'm under perhaps the wrong impression that the silver discs that you get with your Mac purchase contain drivers for your specific Mac model which you can't get from the general Snow Leopard disc.
    Thanks.

  • I need help removing a malicious program form my mac!

Hello, I am 99% sure I accidentally acquired/downloaded a malicious program on my mac and I am new to macs and need help removing it!
I have growl and the other day it notified me that screen sharing, file sharing and web sharing were all turned on at once. As soon as I saw this I quickly got off of the internet and found out how to disable them.
Also, three programs kept requesting to access the internet and I denied them of course. Their names were: nmbd, netsessionmac1225fd0, and krb5kdc.
Like I said I am new to macs and need some help fixing this problem. So, if anyone has any ideas that would help a lot.
I already have screen sharing, file sharing, and web sharing turned off and now it requires a password to access (which i changed after i disabled them) but I want to ask some mac people if I need to do anything else, thanks!

By the way, a big thank you to everyone who has helped so far..
Here is the list of my running programs and keep in mind that I do have my firewall turned on as well as file sharing, screen sharing, and web sharing turned off so the suspect program may not be running?

  • I need help modifying my iWeb site from another Mac than the one it was designed on:

I did exactly as directed in the Help file "to Modify your site from another computer", but when I click on the Domain file it launches iWeb to start a new website without anything from the site I created. The Macs are a mirror image of each other with the same iWeb version 3.0.4. I am transitioning from my MacBook to my new iMac, so the laptop files were all transferred to the iMac by the Apple Store when I bought it. The only difference is that the laptop is OS 10.6.8, and the new iMac is OS 10.7.5. After the transfer of all the files at the store, I proceeded to make the website on the laptop, but now need to work on the website from my iMac...but I need help getting the file to work on the iMac.
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks!

The trick that solved it for me was the last note about how to make the hidden folder appear (due to Lion OS 10.75):
Note for OS X Lion users :
To show the hidden Library folder in the Home Directory (Cmd-Shift-H) hold the Option (=Alt) key when choosing theGo menu in the Finder.
    Thanks!

  • Need help.. Switching from win7 to mac , is it easy?

    Hi guys
I'm adobe premiere pro cs user on win7
I'm applying in a new job as video editor .. they use the same software but in mac ..
I didn't use mac and don't know if I can work easily on it or I need to learn first ...and if I created projects at home using my win7 .. can I open it in mac ?
    thanks

I'm afraid you're not exactly going to get an unbiased opinion here
As a long-time Mac fan (back since System 6) who was forced into a PC world man years ago, OSX has re-kindled my passion for computing. I'm an old Unix guy and OSX has combined the best PC operating system with the power of Unix. To the average user who doesn't care about shell scripts and porting free applications, what you'll get from Unix is a tremendous amount of reliability and security...
One of the best reasons for anyone to switch to the Mac was summed up in a post over on iLounge as a reply to someone who was switching. When asked why anyone would switch, one reply simply said, "...because he realises that a computer should be a productivity tool, not a virus scanner."
In the year since I've bought my Mac Mini, the only failure I've had has been a crash of Virtual PC (an emulator that will allow you to run your old Windows-based applications), which took the virtual disk out and forced me to reinstall my Windows environment. That's nothing different than I've experienced countless times on my old PC.
That said, I'm looking at a 12" iBook. I didn't even consider the 14" because I don't want something larger that doesn't give me extra screen real-estate. I debated the 15" Powerbook but decided I don't really need it's larger screen, and I'd rather have something more portable. There are companies out there that sell dual-layer DVD-RW drives that can be installed in an iBook (even the 12" Powerbook only ships with a single-layer DVD burner).
512mb should be plenty, unless you plan on editing video or running Virtual PC--in which case, I'd recommend at least a gig.

  • Need Help some WPA2 problems with only certain Macs

I've done some searching on the various forums here but can't quite find something that fits the issues I'm having.
We've got 4 Macs on a home wireless network. The specific models are:
    iMac 20" Core2Duo
    12" PB 1.33Ghz
    12" iBook 1.2Ghz
    Mac Mini G4 1.42 Ghz
We use to run WPA on a D-Link router (DI-624) and everyone could connect just fine. Then with 10.4.8 all of the sudden my iMac started to have major issues connecting to the wireless network. I did a bunch of reading and found most people saying it was related to using WPA instead of WPA2.
So I went ahead and updated my firmware on the router (it now handles WPA2) and am in the process of getting all the computer back online. I've changed both the network name and the passphrase (and am using WPA2 Personal with AES) and have then set up the new network name along with WPA2 Personal and the correct passhphrase as a Preferred Network on all the machines.
    However...
Only the iMac connects to the new WPA2 network.
Both laptops and the Mini have an AirPort Extreme card with firmware version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18).
What gives? From what I've read these airport extreme cards should be able to work with WPA2. Oh and all the machines are running 10.4.9.

No help, but i agree with skullcracker!!! Return it ASAP!! You will thank us for this vital information!!!Message Edited by HaZe303 on 05-4-2006 06:29 AM

  • Plasma with mac mini?

I just bought a Panasonic TH-42PX75U plasma, and i was thinking in buying the mac mini and connect it to the plasma. I´d read many reviews about problems using plasma TV as PC monitor. I don´t know how much of it is true. Any advice? Thanks in advance

Hopefully, someone with that exact model TV will respond. Otherwise you are right to be cautious. Depending on what it is you want to do with the mini while connected to the plasma, the types of issues you possibly face are:
    - Anamorphic screen; many plasmas have non-square pixels which can result in a distortion that may not be correctable when hooked up to a computer.
    - Overscan; a lot of TVs force an overscan condition. This means critical parts of the OS X desktop will be out of view, like the menu bar, which will appear to be off the top of the screen as if under the TV's bezel.
    - Non-native resolution; modern computer monitors work best when there is a one-to-one relationship between pixels in the graphic card's memory and pixels on the screen. Anything other than this condition is accomplished using "scaling" to fit the memory map to the screen. This never looks as good as one-to-one mapping, also called running at "native resolution." Computer monitors are designed to run native. TVs rarely are, especially plasma TVs.
    - Black screen/no video; this is a worst case. You get nothing. Total incompatibility. This usually doesn't happen but the alternatives (see all of the above) might make you wish it did.
Ideally, if you have other computers at your disposal today, try making a connection to your new TV. If you have success using other computers and are happy with the result, then chances are the mini will work just as well. If you are not happy when making a computer connection to your TV, don't expect the mini to be any better.
